The overhead aluminum conductors are prone to corrosion, especially in areas with marine climates, which interferes with the safe operation of the power system. Herein, slippery liquid infused porous surface (SLIPS) conductors were successfully prepared on pure aluminum (Bare) conductors by anodizing and infusion of silicone oil. The corrosion resistance of the conductors during 30 days of salt spray corrosion and 7 days of energized conditions was studied. The results indicated that the corrosion of the Bare and anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) conductors was more severe under energized (alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC)) conditions. The exacerbation of corrosion by DC energization was remarkably higher than that of AC energization. The AAO conductor showed better corrosion resistance than the Bare conductor, which was attributed to the porous alumina retarding the medium intrusion. Due to the barrier effect provided by the lubricant layer, the SLIPS conductor always presented excellent corrosion resistance than the Bare and AAO conductors. In addition, the mechanical and electrical properties of the SLIPS conductor were comparable to the Bare conductor and could satisfy the basic requirements for practical applications. The prepared SLIPS conductors offer great application prospects for the corrosion protection of aluminum conductors.

Inspired by nepenthes pitcher plants, the slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces have received extensive attention. In its practical application, good oil storage and oil-locking ability are important guarantee for the surface to maintain the interface performance for a long time. In this paper, mesoporous silica (KCC-1) was obtained by cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as template agent, urea as a hydrolyzing agent, and TEOS as silicon source reagent, then modified with (3-Aminopropyl) trimethoxysilane. Then combined with the breath figures, amino-modified mesoporous silica, 3,3’-4,4’-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride (S-BPDA), 2,2’-bis[4-( 4-aminophenoxyphenyl)]propane (BAPP) were used as raw materials to prepare polyimide SLIPS with good stability by a two-step method. The wettability and stability of SLIPS were investigated, and the results show that the introduction of mesoporous silica inorganic nanoparticles enhanced the performance of SLIPS. Among them, the sliding angle of polyimide SLIPS with a nanoparticle content of 10% is 2°, which has good self-cleaning performance, antifouling performance, and stability.

Copper has extensive industrial applications. However, the susceptibility to corrosion makes it vulnerable in harsh environments. Bioinspired coating presents a novel approach to address copper corrosion. Bioinspired from lotus leaves and pitcher plants, this research endeavors to create superhydrophobic and ferrofluid-infused surfaces (FIS) on copper substrate. Firstly, a one-step electrodeposition method is employed to fabricate superhydrophobic surface on copper. Secondly, Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles are sequentially modified with dopamine hydrochloride and dodecanethiol to endow surface hydrophobicity. Then, the modified Fe 3 O 4 is dispersed in oil to create a magnetic fluid, which is finally infused onto the superhydrophobic matrix, forming the FIS coating. Electrochemical testing confirms the high protective effect of the bio-inspired superhydrophobic and magnetic fluid composite coating against corrosion. The FIS coating exhibits a prominent low-frequency impedance modulus (7.73 × 10 6 Ω·cm²) even after immersion in NaCl solution for 60 d. Furthermore, the coating demonstrates an outstanding magnetic-driven self-healing capability, as evidenced by the minimal decrease in the |Z| 0.01 Hz value (remaining as high as 10 9 Ω·cm²) even after undergoing six cycles of scratching and self-healing process. This corrosion resistance can be attributed to the combined effects of the accommodating effect of superhydrophobic matrix and the self-healing property of the magnetic fluid under the magnetic field. This dually bio-inspired coating technology offers significant advantages for copper applications in harsh environments.

In recent years, the development of the slippery liquid-infused porous surface (SLIPS) for metal corrosion protection has attracted extensive attention. The current construction method of SLIPS micro-nano structure has certain limitations. In this paper, a porous structure was firstly constructed by electroplating nickel based on the hydrogen bubble template method, and then the porous structure was modified by 1H, 1H, 2H, 2H-perfluorodecyltriethoxysilane (PFDS) to obtain the superhydrophobic coating, and finally, The SLIPS coating was obtained by infusing perfluoropolyether (PFPE) on the basis of superhydrophobic coating. After immersed in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution for 4 weeks, the WCA of SLIPS constructed in this paper only decreased from 121° to 114°. Importantly, the corrosion resistance of SLIPS was enhanced by one and three orders of magnitude compared with SHC and Cu substrate. In addition, it was worth mentioning that the SLIPS also exhibited a superior self-healing property even after several scratching healing cycles. The simple method of building porous structures in this paper will promote the further development of the SLIPS coating and its application in engineering.

We aimed to create a slippery liquid-infused enamel surface with antibiofouling property to prevent dental biofilm/plaque formation. First, a micro/nanoporous enamel surface was obtained by 37% phosphoric acid etching. The surface was then functionalized by hydrophobic low-surface energy heptadecafluoro-1,1,2,2-tetra- hydrodecyltrichlorosilane. Subsequent infusion of fluorocarbon lubricants (Fluorinert FC-70) into the polyfluoroalkyl-silanized rough surface resulted in an enamel surface with slippery liquid-infused porous surface (SLIPS). The results of water contact angle measurement, diffuse-reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and atomic force microscope confirmed that the SLIPS was successfully constructed on the enamel surface. The antibiofouling property of the SLIPS was evaluated by the adsorption of salivary protein of mucin and Streptococcus mutans in vitro , as well as dental biofilm formation using a rabbit model in vivo . The results showed that the SLIPS on the enamel surface significantly inhibited mucin adhesion and S. mutans biofilm formation in vitro and inhibited dental plaque formation in vivo .

Natural species use their surface structures for water harvesting. It is the dire need of the hour to learn from nature, mimic its functions, and solve the water scarcity problem through dew condensation . However, the present microscale and nanoscale approaches still suffer from complicated fabrication methods and durability failure in harsh conditions. Here, we introduce a bioinspired slippery surface of candle soot particles which uses its bumps to enhance the growth of condensed water droplets. The Namib desert beetles-inspired convex topography, cacti-inspired asymmetric slope, and Nepenthes pitcher plant-inspired slippery surface of soot particles synergistically combines the large droplet nucleation density, fast droplet coalescence, and easy removal of droplet from the surface. The hydrophilic SLIPS of soot particles harvests water at a rate of 326.4 ± 9 mg/cm 2 h -1 which is 70 % high as compared to hydrophobic SLIPS of soot particles. The fluorinated SLIPS reveals 32 % high water collection rate as compared to the methyl-terminated SLIPS of candle soot particles and the results are corroborated by calculating the intermolecular hydrogen bonding energies through DFT. The programmed motion of water droplet on a slippery surface of soot particles is also observed by applying laser light, heat, and magnetic field even against gravity. The slippery surface shows long-term stability due to nano-porosity, permeation of lubricant into soot particles and lubricant’s crosslinking ability with the binder. The developed surface is biocompatible, self-cleaning, and suitable for water harvesting particularly in cold and arid regions.

Ice accumulation on the surface of aerospace and transportation equipment under extreme weather seriously endangers the safety and efficiency of equipment operation. In recent years, metal corrosion, especially in the marine engineering industry, has become a global concern. The slippery liquid infused porous surface (SLIPS) is a new bionic surface which has caused extensive research in recent years, and has great potential in anti-corrosion and anti-icing. In this study, a multifunctional solid-like lubricated slippery surface (SL-SLIPS) was developed by superhydrophobic modification of the base of copper hydroxide nanoneedles and injection of solid-like lubricant synthesized by embedding oil-stored mesoporous silica nanoparticles on the surface of epoxy resin. At −30 °C, the delayed icing time on the surface of the SL-SLIPS sample was 22.6 times that of the original copper substrate. The ice adhesion was tested on the surface of the sample, and the results showed that the adhesion of the icicle on the SL-SLIPS surface was the smallest, which decreased by 89% compared with the original copper substrate. In addition, SL-SLIPS have excellent corrosion resistance and rapid droplet trapping, nucleation and drop. It has good practical application prospects in corrosion resistance of marine equipment and icing resistance of aerospace and transportation equipment. This study provides new ideas for the design of new slippery surfaces and their application in practical fields, such as anti-corrosion of offshore equipment, anti-icing of equipment in aviation and fog collection engineering in industry.

Ice accretion poses a severe threat to transportation, power transmission, and aerospace industries under low-temperature and high-humidity conditions. Although superhydrophobic surfaces can delay ice formation, their micro/nanostructures tend to induce heterogeneous nucleation and easily lose anti-icing ability under extreme conditions. Slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces (SLIPS) significantly reduce ice adhesion and suppress heterogeneous nucleation by introducing a lubricating layer, demonstrating superior anti-/de-icing potential. However, conventional SLIPS suffer from lubricant depletion and insufficient oil-locking capacity, and single-function SLIPS cannot meet the demand of intelligent anti-icing. Herein, we report a novel photothermal SLIPS (FZPC/SiO 2 -SO) with unique in-situ ZIF-67 growth on carbon fibers (CF) via polydopamine (PDA) assistance and fluorosilane coordination grafting, which constructs hierarchical porous architecture with dual oil-storage reservoirs for synergistic anti-icing and de-icing. The wettability, oil-storage capacity, passive anti-icing and active de-icing performances were systematically investigated. Results reveal that the coating achieves optimal comprehensive performance at a FZPC:SiO 2 mass ratio of 1:1 with 60 wt% SO infusion, exhibiting an ultralow ice adhesion strength of 15.8 kPa, prolonged freezing delay of 593 s, and maintained low ice adhesion (≤24.4 kPa) after 30 de-icing cycles, showing superior oil retention and durability compared with traditional CF-based SLIPS. Photothermal tests demonstrate rapid surface heating to 67 °C within 2 min under 1 sun irradiation, enabling prompt ice melting (within 48 s). This in-situ MOF-modified photothermal SLIPS breaks through the bottlenecks of lubricant loss and single function in conventional SLIPS, providing a novel strategy for developing highly stable and multifunctional integrated lubricant anti-icing coatings.

Slippery Liquid Infused Porous Surfaces (SLIPS) have received much attention in the past few years, due to their excellent non-stick, ultra-liquid repellent, self-healing properties, as both industrial and medical materials. We have developed a porous PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene)-based SLIPS coating , in which pores are introduced using a PTFE emulsion containing NaCl and ZnAc 2 ; NaCl was found to be a necessary ingredient. The durability of the coatings was evaluated by water impact, sandpaper abrasion and hot-air testing; we found that the stability of the coating are affected by the sizes of the pores and surface microstructures. The best performance and durability of the SLIPS occurs for a nanoporous/nanotextured surface, unlike a superhydrophobic surface, which is associated with hierarchical structures.

The slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces (SLIPS) have recently attracted significant interest in marine antifouling and corrosion protection. Nevertheless, the insufficient durability and corrosion resistance of SLIPS considerably affect their application potential. In this work, a preparation strategy for ultradurable slippery organic coating was proposed to combat biofouling and corrosion. Digital light processing (DLP) was first employed to fabricate organic protective coatings with gradient porous structures to improve the stability and durability of the SLIPS. The structure with a smaller pore size in the upper segment relative to the basal area was designed to concurrently enhance the lubricant’s storage and retention capabilities. The antifouling experiment demonstrated excellent antifouling performance, with a bacterial colonization of merely 2.08% after immersion in a Pseudomonas aeruginosa solution for 28 days. The antialgae assessment demonstrated that the surface antifouling efficacy of the gradient SLIPS coating was enhanced by 99.75% after a 10-day immersion period. The EIS results indicated that the SLIPS coating with a gradient porous structure exhibited remarkable corrosion resistance, as evidenced by a |Z|0.01 Hz value of 2.93 × 1010 Ω·cm2 after 60 days of immersion. The gradient porous structure effectively resolves the intrinsic dilemma between the storage and depletion of lubricant, which greatly improves the stability and durability of the SLIPS coating. The ultradurable slippery organic coating with facile preparation and controllable structure exhibits exceptional long-term antifouling and anticorrosion properties, thereby making it highly promising for potential application.

Controllable wetting surfaces play a significant role in numerous applications such as smart liquid manipulation, lab-on-a-chip, drug delivery, liquid robot, and so on. A novel type of magnetically controllable isotropic/anisotropic slippery surface was prepared by femtosecond laser ablation. The slippery liquid-infused porous surface (SLIPS) can be switched between an isotropic smooth state and an anisotropic groove state by the magnetic field. The relationship between the sliding property of the SLIPS and the magnetic flux density, water droplet volume, microgroove width, and microgroove height are systematically studied. Passively flexible movement on the isotropic SLIPS and actively directional movement on the anisotropic SLIPS of water droplets were realized. This work provides a fresh understanding of the controllable isotropic/anisotropic SLIPS and reveals great potential in versatile applications which are related to magnetically controllable smart liquid manipulation.

Copper metal is prone to corrosion in aggressive environments, which poses a significant challenge to the long-term reliability. Herein, we report a self-healing slippery anticorrosion coating constructed on copper substrate. First, ZIF-8 with an ordered porous architecture was grown in situ by electrodeposition and used as a micro/nanoscale lubricant reservoir. ZIF-8 film was subsequently modified with thiol molecules to lower the surface energy for realizing superhydrophobicity. Finally, dimethyl silicone oil was infused into the thiolated ZIF-8 framework to form a ZIF-8-based slippery liquid-infused porous surface (SLIPS). Electrochemical measurements reveal that |Z| 0.01 Hz is 4.01 × 10 8 Ω·cm 2 . After being immersed in NaCl solution for 336 h, the SLIPS preserves |Z| 0.01 Hz close to 10 7 Ω·cm 2 . Even after pronounced mechanical scratching, |Z| 0.01Hz still remains high value. Anti-icing tests further revealed a low ice-adhesion strength of 113 ± 2 kPa, nearly one-sixth that of untreated copper (628 ± 7 kPa). These results demonstrate that the ZIF-8-based SLIPS provides high corrosion resistance, self-healing capability, and anti-icing performance, offering a robust barrier for long-term protection of copper-based materials in harsh corrosive environments.
