In this work, a magnetic adsorption material based on metal–organic framework (Fe3O4@ZnAl-LDH@MIL-53(Al)) was synthesized and used as an adsorbent in the process of magnetic solid phase extraction. Then, a high-performance liquid chromatograph was used to quantitatively detect triazole fungicides in samples. In order to verify the successful preparation of the material, a series of characterization analyses were carried out. Besides, the key parameters that may affect the extraction efficiency have been optimized, and under optimal conditions the three triazole fungicides showed good linearity in the range of 10–1000 μg/L (R2 ≥ 0.9796); Limit of detections were ranged from 0.013 to 0.030 μg/mL. Finally, the established method was applied to the detection of triazole fungicides in four fresh juice samples. The results showed that the target analyte was not detected in all the test samples. By detecting the recoveries (73.3–104.3%) and coefficient variation (RSD ≤ 6.8%) of triazole fungicides in fortified samples, it proved that this established method meets the requirements of pesticide residue analysis and showed excellent application potential.

Layered double hydroxide (LDH) has been widely used as a two-dimensional nanomaterial in the corrosion protection of epoxy (EP) coatings due to its physical barrier properties and excellent ion exchange capacity. However, conventional LDH with an interlayer of NO3– (LDH-NO3) is prone to failure in corrosive environments due to its limited ion exchange ability. It is demonstrated in this work that, compared to an EP coating containing LDH-NO3 (EP/LDH-NO3), EP coatings containing ZnAl-LDH-MoO42– (EP/LDH-MoO4) and ZnAl-LDH-PO43– (EP/LDH-PO4) have stronger corrosion resistance and self-healing abilities. This is attributed to the trapping effect of corrosion anions between the LDH layers by the inhibitor ions, which prevents the direct contact of the corrosion anions with the substrate. In addition, the inhibitor ions can combine with metal ions from the substrate to form insoluble complexes in localized corrosion areas, thus blocking further deterioration. Furthermore, EP/LDH-MoO4 has superior corrosion resistance and self-healing properties compared to EP/LDH-PO4, as the more active MoO42– anions have a stronger ion exchange ability than PO43–. This study not only highlights the potential of inhibitor ions inserted in LDH layers for anticorrosion but also paves the way toward the design of more effective EP-based coatings.

Magnetic ZnAl-LDH composite materials (Fe 3 O 4 @LDH) based on the electrostatic attraction was manufactured by self-assembly method to remove Cr(VI) from wastewater simultaneously. Fe 3 O 4 microspheres with suitable size can be surrounded by the LDH layers in the formation process to separate easily and reduce the dosage of Fe 3 O 4 . The removal behaviors of Cr(VI) from wastewater were investigated and the obtained samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopic (TEM) and molecular simulation. Equilibrium studies indicated that the experimental data was well described by Langmuir models and the removal was a charge-limited process. Compared with other reported papers, the removal capacity for Cr(VI) by this method was larger, revealing a maximum utilization of charges on LDH. By molecular simulation, the relationship among chemical bond, electron transfer and energy was explained microscopically and the removal mechanism was proved that Cr(VI) trapped onto Fe 3 O 4 @LDH involved ion electrostatic interaction. The reusability of Fe 3 O 4 @LDH composite was tested and illustrated that it can be reused for several times.

MoS 2 and LDH were successfully integrated into a two-dimensional/two-dimensional (2D/2D) structure. • PMA with electron-capturing capability was successfully intercalated into the two-dimensional nanosheet layers. • 10% LDH-PMA/MoS 2 shows superior light harvesting capacity, 6.45-fold higher than ZnAl-LDH. Addressing urgent environmental remediation and sustainable energy needs, this study enhances photocatalytic H 2 evolution via rational design of an efficient composite catalyst. In-situ synthesis controllably grew MoS 2 onto LDH-PMA surface, constructing ZnAl-PMA/MoS 2 photocatalytic system. Photocatalytic tests show 10% MoS 2 -loaded composite exhibits optimal light harvesting, achieving 4498.59 μmol g −1 h −1 H 2 evolution, 6.45 times pristine ZnAl-LDH and 3.1 times LDH-PMA, and retaining 3890 μmol g −1 h −1 after six cycles (24 h total), confirming excellent stability. This enhanced performance arises from 2D/2D heterostructure and intercalated PMA's electron trapping capability, facilitating photogenerated carrier separation, suppressing recombination, and boosting. Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) hold significant promise as antioxidant carriers for enhancing the aging resistance of polymers. However, their widespread application is hampered by inherent limitations such as low antioxidant loading capacity, diminished activity post-intercalation, and insufficient ultraviolet (UV) shielding. This study presents a strategic dual-modification approach: the UV absorber (UV-284) was intercalated into the ZnAl-LDH interlayers, constructing an intrinsic "UV shield" while the hindered phenolic antioxidant (AO) was covalently grafted onto the LDH surface using γ-glycidyl ether oxypropyl trimethoxysilane (KH-560) as a bridging molecule. This process successfully created a synergistic anti-aging system, denoted ULKA, which integrates both UV shielding and radical scavenging functionalities. Results demonstrate that the intercalation of UV-284 reduced the band gap of ULKA from 3.84 eV to 2.88 eV, significantly enhancing its absorption of low-energy ultraviolet light. Furthermore, the introduction of an electron-donating ester group into the antioxidant molecule increased the electron cloud density around the phenolic hydroxyl groups, thereby improving its radical capture efficiency. Incorporating merely 1 wt% of ULKA into polypropylene (PP) via melt blending yielded PP/ULKA composites with superior resistance to photo-thermal oxidation compared to both pure PP and PP containing an equivalent amount of commercial antioxidant Irganox 1010. After 600 h of UV accelerated aging, the PP/ULKA composite retained 85.94% of its impact strength and 81.76% of its elongation at break, significantly outperforming PP/1010. The oxidation induction time (OIT) of the composite reached 22.7 min. Following 28 days of thermal oxidative aging at 110 °C, the increase in the carbonyl index (CI) was merely 0.93%, far lower than the 3.5% increase observed for pure PP. XPS analysis further confirmed that the C = O /C-C intensity ratio increased by only 0.018, a value significantly lower than those of other samples. This work provides a novel design strategy and experimental foundation for developing highly efficient and migration-resistant anti-aging additives for polymers.

The application of ammonium polyphosphate (APP) as an additive flame retardant to epoxy resin (EP) flame retardant is common, while, APP is poorly dispersed and easily agglomerated in EP. For solving the problem, in this paper, three kinds of ZnAl-layered double hydroxides (ZnAl-LDH1, ZnAl-LDH2 and ZnAl-LDH3) were successfully prepared by using sodium hydroxide, urea and triethanolamine as differences alkali source, respectively, which were used to strengthen the flame retardant performance of EP with APP. The results showed that the heat release peak and the smoke production rate peak were decreased by 58.2% and 44.2% after the addition of APP (5 wt%) and ZnAl-LDH3 (5 wt%) which is prepared with triethanolamine as the alkali source compared with that of Pure-EP.The addition of ZnAl-LDH3 will contribute to the dispersion of APP and the increase of the most C element in this process by SEM and XPS. The metal oxides were uniformly distributed on the surface of the carbon layer after combustion. The residual carbon value of ZnAl-LDH3 was smaller than that of ZnAl-LDH1-APP-EP and ZnAl-LDH2-APP-EP by the raman pattern. The heat release profile of APP-EP was better than that of ZnAl-LDH3-APP-EP, however, the tensile property and elongation at break of ZnAl-LDH3-APP-EP are better than that of APP-EP.

MRSA infections give rise to chronic cutaneous and advance into profound tissue invasions, including osteomyelitis and sepsis—conditions for which existing clinical interventions offer only limited efficacy. The utility of broad-spectrum antibiotics has become increasingly compromised by escalating drug resistance, inadequate tissue targeting, and deleterious side effects. Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) have emerged as a compelling immunotherapeutic avenue for eradicating multidrug-resistant pathogens. Inspired by the bactericidal and immunoregulatory functions of NETs, we developed a photothermal–immunomodulatory hydrogel reinforced by a Ti 3 C 2 /ZnAl-LDH nanoplatform to mimic NETs-like antimicrobial defense while overcoming their inherent limitations. Hollow photothermal nanoparticles were fabricated from 2D Ti 3 C 2 and ZnAl-LDH (TiZ) nanosheets and infused with chlorogenic acid, forming CTiZ. These were cloaked in membranes derived from apoptotic neutrophils to create a NETs-mimetic functional bacterial trapper (CTiZM), which was then encapsulated within a thermoresponsive dopa-poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) hydrogel (dopa-PNIPAm, DP), yielding a composite hydrogel system designated CTiZM@DP. This sophisticated platform amplifies antibacterial potency through effective microbial entrapment and the generation of reactive oxygen species, while simultaneously orchestrating the polarization of macrophages toward a reparative M2 phenotype under the influence of gentle photothermal stimulation. Collectively, this integrative strategy heralds a promising therapeutic modality for the eradication of multidrug-resistant infections and the enhancement of wound healing in individuals with diabetes.

Although incorporating nanomaterials into waterborne epoxy (WEP) coatings can enhance their barrier properties and corrosion resistance, the apparent agglomeration of nanomaterials and their poor compatibility with WEP inevitably constrain the service life and industrial applications of coatings. Herein, a multifunctional nanomaterial has been successfully prepared to improve the anticorrosion performance and service life of WEP coating. When polydopamine (PDA) is used to modify molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), the abundant catechol groups on the surface of PDA-MoS2 nanomaterials can effectively chelate metal ions, thus in turn providing active sites for the growth of layered double hydroxides (ZnAl LDH-VOx). Through this efficient design, PDA-MoS2@ZnAl LDH-VOx nanomaterials are uniformly dispersed in WEP, and the PDA-MoS2@ZnAl LDH-VOx/WEP composite coating exhibits high anticorrosion performance with a low-frequency impedance (|Z|0.01 Hz) of 7.65 × 1010 ohm·cm2 in 3.5 wt % NaCl solution after Day 180. The enhanced |Z|0.01 Hz value of the scratched PDA-MoS2@ZnAl LDH-VOx/WEP composite coating indicates its self-healing property. Moreover, PDA-MoS2@ZnAl LDH-VOx nanomaterials enhance the abrasion resistance of the WEP coating, thus contributing to the long-term service life of the coating. In the WEP coating, PDA-MoS2@ZnAl LDH-VOx nanomaterials not only improve its barrier properties but also endow it with a Cl– trapping effect and self-healing properties. This study provides new insights into the design of nanomaterials with multiple functions and the development of WEP composite coatings with long-term anticorrosion performance.

Zinc aluminium hydrotalcite (ZnAl-LDH) based photocatalytic advanced oxidation processes show considerable promise for pollutant degradation. Yet, the specific role of surface hydroxyl groups in the reaction mechanism—particularly with regard to environmental and ecological risk control—remains inadequately understood. This study systematically explores the function of surface hydroxyl groups on ZnAl-LDH in the photoactivation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS). A surface-hydroxyl-rich ZnAl-LDH was synthesized using a simple and scalable coprecipitation approach. The material demonstrated exceptional PMS activation performance and a distinctive non-radical pathway, enabling complete photocatalytic degradation of nitenpyram (NTP) within 5 minutes under low PMS concentrations. Surface hydroxyls were found to be crucial in the activation process, acting as both adsorption sites for PMS and catalytic centers for its activation. Notably, the developed oxidation system exhibited marked environmental and ecological benefits, representing a green and low-carbon technology. Zebrafish assays, wheatgrass growth tests, and full life-cycle assessments consistently confirmed its eco-friendly efficacy. Ultimately, this work underscores the dual advantage of surface hydroxyl groups as active sites in catalytic oxidation: they facilitate the activation process while ensuring minimal environmental impact.

This study investigates the synthesis, characterization and adsorption efficiency of PDMS@Li/ZnAl-LDH as a potential adsorbent for lithium recovery from Salt Lake brine with a high Mg/Li ratio. Synthesized via co-precipitation, the adsorbent exhibited excellent stability across a wide range of pH and temperature, along with a well-defined layered crystalline structure. The maximum adsorption capacity of Li + is 14.1 mg/g in lithium brine and 9.4 mg/g in the Qarhan Salt Lake's brine with impressive selectivity, as indicated by separation factors of 215, 838 and 175 for Li + /K + , Li + /Na + and Li + /Mg 2+ , respectively. Microspheres formed by Li/ZnAl-LDH in ultra-pure water exhibited tunable pore size and porosity as compared to Li/Al-LDH, which enhanced the Li + adsorption. Cyclic adsorption and zinc dissolution tests confirmed the adsorbent's excellent reusability with no significant structural degradation. Furthermore, using NaAlO 2 as a precursor reduces cost, making Li/ZnAl-LDH a viable option for large-scale lithium recovery. This work presents a sustainable, cost-effective strategy for lithium recovery with potential industrial applications.

As a renewable new material with high void ratio, large adsorption surface area, and high adsorption rate, biomass carbon (BC) is a promising adsorbent, which has received wide attention for the degradation of dyes. However, physical adsorption cannot completely remove dyes, and there is also the risk of secondary pollution. ZnAl-layered double hydroxide (ZnAl-LDH) is a semiconductor photocatalyst with abundant active sites and excellent degradation efficiency. In this paper, we have designed a ZnAl-layered double oxide@biomass carbon (ZnAl-LDO@BC) formed by in situ grown LDH on the waste poplar wood as a synergistic adsorption and photocatalytic system. BC as a support could enhance the dispersity of layered double oxide (LDO), whereas LDO could provide photodegradation function to BC. Our studies indicate that the prepared ZnAl-LDO@BC presents lower bandgap energy, higher surface area, and lower complexation efficiency of holes and electrons than delignified biomass (DB). As a result, ZnAl-LDO@BC increased the removal rate of malachite green (MG) to 85.8%, which is 3.5 times higher than DB. The maximum removal rate was close to 98%, and the removal capacity was 1954 mg g −1 under an initial concentration of 200 mg L −1 of MG dye, and the possible mechanism of MG degradation was also investigated. In this study, the conversion of agroforestry wastes into high-value materials applied to dye degradation provides a new pathway for the production of stable, sustainable, and superior photocatalytic material.

Hierarchically porous composites constructed by ZnAl-Cl type layered double hydroxides (LDH) nanosheets and amorphous Al(OH) 3 nanosheets were synthesized via a facile sol-gel route for the adsorption of two typical anionic dyes Methyl Orange (MO) and Congo Red (CR) from aqueous solutions. The micro-macrostructure and adsorption properties of hierarchically porous ZnAl-LDH/Al(OH) 3 composites before and after calcination were investigated in detail. The adsorption mechanism and adsorption–desorption cycles were also discussed. Materials characterization confirm that the resultant hierarchically porous composites possess three-dimensional macrostructure with interconnected macropores and co-continuous skeletons constructed by ZnAl-LDH and Al(OH) 3 nanosheets . Calcination at 500 °C allows the transformation from LDH composite to layered double metal oxides (LDO), while the macrostructure is basically maintained with a macropore size of 0.5 μm, a porosity of 53.1% and a BET surface area as high as 122 m 2 g −1 . Adsorption performances show that hierarchically porous composites exhibit ultrafast adsorption rates and high adsorption capacities in the removal of anionic dyes CR and MO. The maximum adsorption capacities of hierarchically porous LDH-based composites and LDO composites via calcination at 500 °C are 2348.3 and 1574.4 mg g −1 for CR and 1013.5 and 1015.1 mg g −1 for MO, respectively. XRD and FTIR results after the dyes adsorption indicate that the intercalation of MO − and CR − anions into the LDH structure via ion exchange with the pristine chloride ions group and the attachment on the external Al(OH) 3 surface determine the adsorption behavior , thus leading to an expansion of the interlayer space . And the calcined products LDO-based composites can be reversibly transformed back into the LDH structure via reconstruction procedure in the presence of dyes aqueous solution. Furthermore, the adsorption–desorption cycles confirm that the as-prepared hierarchically porous composites own excellent recyclable properties and the removal efficiency for CR and MO are 80.2% and 73.7% even after five cycles, respectively.
