Developing flexible, metal-free membranes for efficient piezo-photocatalytic environmental remediation remains a critical challenge. Herein, an all-organic, hierarchical porous COF/PVDF-HFP composite film was fabricated via a phase inversion method. Driven by strong interfacial hydrogen bonding, the COF nanoparticles (with an optimal loading of 5 wt%) served as efficient nucleating agents, significantly enhancing the electroactive β-phase content of the PVDF-HFP matrix and boosting its piezoelectric response. Under simultaneous light and ultrasonic excitation, the optimized composite achieved a remarkable Rhodamine B degradation efficiency of 97.73% within 180 min, exhibiting a kinetic rate 2.3 times higher than that of pristine PVDF-HFP. Furthermore, it demonstrated robust broad-spectrum antibacterial efficacy (>99% sterilization) against both E. coli and S. aureus . Crucially, by integrating density functional theory (DFT) calculations with absolute band alignments (UPS) and dynamic in-situ XPS tracing, we definitively unveiled an internal electric field-driven S-scheme heterojunction mechanism. This S-scheme pathway dynamically steers charge recombination, successfully retaining highly reductive photogenerated electrons on the COF to thermodynamically favor the dominant generation of superoxide radicals (·O 2 − ) and a remarkable yield of H 2 O 2 (937.6 µM). Exhibiting exceptional structural stability over multiple cycles, this entirely metal-free composite offers a robust, sustainable paradigm for engineering high-performance piezo-photocatalytic interfaces for water purification and hygiene protection.

The environmental persistence and inherent biodegradation resistance of pesticide residues pose a serious threat to ecosystems and human health, necessitating the development of efficient monitoring strategies. Herein, we decipher the fluorine-fluorine (F···F) interaction within an AIE-active, trifluoromethyl-functionalized covalent organic framework (PEFA-COF) and exploit this molecular recognition motif for the selective detection of trifluralin (TFR). Benefiting from abundant trifluoromethyl moieties and superior luminescence properties, the PEFA-COF enables specific TFR recognition through a synergistic interplay of electrostatic forces, hydrogen bonding, and F···F interactions. This recognition event triggers a pronounced fluorescence quenching response via the internal filtration effect (IFE), facilitating highly sensitive and selective TFR quantification. The constructed PEFA-COF-based fluorescent sensing platform was successfully validated in complex water and milk matrices, achieving an excellent fluorescence quenching coefficient and a detection limit as low as 0.06 μmol/L. Collectively, this work not only deciphers the critical role of F···F interaction in pesticide recognition but also advances the function-led design of AIE-active COFs toward practical and robust pesticide residue monitoring in food supply chains.

Designing stable photocatalysts with
optimized charge transfer
and surface kinetics remains a critical challenge for achieving solar-driven
CO 2 reduction. In this work, an amorphous FeOOH/covalent
organic frameworks (COFs) S-scheme heterojunction was rationally constructed
via a solvent-assisted strategy. The integration of defect-rich amorphous
FeOOH with the porous COFs matrix not only maximizes the interfacial
contact but also induces a strong internal electric field (IEF), enabling
directional charge migration and efficient carrier separation. The
optimized amorphous FeOOH/COF3 heterostructure exhibits a CO evolution
rate of 200.98 μmol·g –1 ·h –1 with a selectivity as high as 93.6% under visible-light irradiation,
outperforming the individual components. Spectroscopic and photoelectrochemical
studies confirm that the built-in electric field can effectively regulate
the formation of an S-scheme charge transfer pathway, which retains
the highly reducing electrons on COFs while maintaining the excellent
oxidation capability of FeOOH. This work highlights the crucial roles
of amorphous/crystalline interface engineering and IEF modulation
in constructing high-performance COFs-based photocatalysts and provides
new insights into designing efficient S-scheme systems for solar-driven
CO 2 conversion.

A two-dimensional imine-linked covalent organic framework, designated as COF-LZU1, was employed as a high-performance solid-phase extraction (SPE) adsorbent for the preconcentration of trace Cd(II) from complex food matrices. Systematic investigations of adsorption kinetics and isotherms revealed that Cd(II) uptake follows a pseudo-second-order model and aligns with the Langmuir isotherm, indicating a monolayer chemisorption process. The theoretical maximum adsorption capacity reached 114.94 mg g −1 , demonstrating highly competitive performance against traditional adsorbents. Structural and spectroscopic characterizations (SEM–EDS, BET, FT-IR, XPS, and XRD) before and after adsorption confirmed that the robust performance of COF-LZU1 originates from its high specific surface area and abundant nucleophilic imine linkages (-C = N-), which serve as primary coordination sites. Supported by the Hard and Soft Acids and Bases and density functional theory simulations, the adsorption mechanism involves a synergistic interplay of electrostatic attraction, chelation, and the channel effect. Under optimized conditions, the integrated SPE-GFAAS platform achieved a highly sensitive limit of detection (3.34 ng L −1 ) and excellent precision (RSD = 1.0%). The methodology was validated using certified reference materials and real food samples, yielding excellent recoveries (94.0–104.0%). These findings underscore the significant potential of COFs-LZU1 as specialized scaffolds for the robust enrichment and quantification of trace heavy metals in food safety applications. Graphical A novel two-dimensional imine-linked covalent organic framework, designated as COF-LZU1, was initially employed in a solid-phase extraction system to adsorb trace amounts of Cd(II) from food samples. The adsorption process is identified as a sophisticated multi-step mechanism: initially, Cd(II) ions are attracted to the vicinity of the nitrogen-rich binding sites via electrostatic forces; subsequently, they migrate into the interior pores through the channel effect and are ultimately anchored via strong coordination-chelation with the imine linkages. This study underscores the potential of COF-LZU1 as a high-performance and selective platform for the separation and detection of Cd(II) in complex food matrices.

A novel hyper-crosslinked triazine-based COF (HCTF-2) photocatalyst was prepared by a simple molecular expansion method. Compared with CTF-2, HCTF-2 showed excellent photocatalytic performance under visible light irradiation. The photodegradation efficiency of HCTF-2 for some pollutants (20 ppm tetracycline (TC), 30 ppm rhodamine B (RhB), 20 ppm levofloxacin hydrochloride (LEF) and 20 ppm methylene blue (MB)) can reach more than 99% in a short time. Meanwhile, HCTF-2 had a stronger hydrogen production rate (2728.61 μmol h−1 g−1), which was 5.11 times higher than that of CTF-2 (534.12 μmol h−1 g−1). Molecular oxygen activation experiments confirmed that HCTF-2 exhibited strong oxidation capacity for 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB), and superoxide radical and hydrogen peroxide generation ability. The photodegradation active species were identified through free radical trapping experiments and ESR. Moreover, the possible degradation pathways of LEF were analyzed by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). The enhanced photocatalytic ability of HCTF-2 was attributed to the strong absorption of visible light and the porous braided structure leading to a larger specific surface area with higher carrier separation efficiency. This research provided a strategy for the development of specially structured COFs for photocatalytic applications and more efficient improvement of photocatalytic efficiency.

Designing the photocatalyst that possesses both efficient diluted carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) enrichment and photocatalytic conversion capabilities is a key challenge for the direct utilization of low-concentration CO 2 (15%) from flue gas. Herein, we proposed an interlayer ligand insertion strategy to construct a high-density integrated adsorption-catalysis system between NH 2 -UiO-66(Zr) (U66N) and functionalized TPB-DMTP-COF with benzoic acid groups (COF-T) for highly efficient photocatalytic diluted CO 2 reduction. In the photocatalytic CO 2 reduction reaction, the diluted CO 2 was first adsorbed and enriched to the microporous structure constructed between COF-T and U66N. Simultaneously, the two-dimensional COF-T acts as the primary light-harvesting component, preferentially capturing photogenerated electrons and holes under visible light and directing their transport to the catalytic interface of the three-dimensional U66N through steric-hindrance-induced distorted coordination linkages. Then the CO 2 molecules progressively activated by using the delivered electrons and H + , ultimately converting into CO. This ordered high-density integration architecture of COF and MOF concurrently optimizes light absorption and charge transfer pathways, enables precise regulation of the catalytic centers, and thereby substantially lowers the energy barrier for the formation of the *COOH intermediate in the photocatalytic CO 2 reduction, resulting in enhanced overall catalytic performance. Consequently, COF-T/U66N achieves a remarkable CO production rate of 65.0 µmol·g -1 ·h -1 under diluted CO 2 (15%), with near-unity (∼100%) selectivity and without adding any photosensitizer and sacrificial agent, surpassing state-of-the-art inorganic or porous photocatalysts by 5–40 times. This work not only provides a feasible strategy for the efficient photocatalytic reduction of low-concentration CO 2 but also offers a universal method for the design of MOF/COF composite materials.

Although boron-based cross-linkers (e.g., boric acid, borax) are widely used to enhance gel mechanics through dynamic B O bonds, their small-molecule nature inevitably causes leaching and disrupts ion transport, leading to a persistent trade-off between robustness and conductivity. Herein, we overcome this limitation by designing a boron-rich covalent organic framework (COF-1) as a structured porous solid cross-linker for cellulose-based eutectogels. The eutectogel is fabricated through facile dissolution of cellulose in a ternary ZnCl 2 /formic acid/water deep eutectic solvent, followed by incorporation of boron-rich COF-1. The rigid COF-1 scaffold, abundant in surface boroxine rings, forms dense and homogeneous B–O···H–O hydrogen bonds with the cellulose matrix, serving as robust junctions that enhance mechanical strength. The tensile and compressive strength of COF-1 reinforced eutectogel can reach 0.34 and 1.95 MPa, respectively. Crucially, its inherent 1.5-nm nanochannels of COF-1 provide dedicated pathways for rapid Zn 2+ migration, enabling high ionic conductivity (4.23 S·m −1 ). This dual functionality effectively decouples mechanical and conductive properties. The resulting gel exhibits high sensitivity, temperature tolerance, and stability as a flexible sensor, establishing a paradigm of porous solid cross-linkers for next-generation soft materials.

A new type of highly efficient ternary rGO/COF-C4N/NH2-Bi2O3 heterojunctions was designed and synthesized by solvothermal and ultrasonic methods, and was applied to photocatalytic degradation of chlorophenol in water. The results show that the photocatalytic activity and stability of rGO/COF-C4N/NH2-Bi2O3 for the degradation of o-chlorophenol (2-cp) was significantly increased as compared with that of pure Bi2O3, COF-C4N, and COF-C4N/NH2-Bi2O3. The photocatalytic degradation rate for 2-cp by rGO/COF-C4N/NH2-Bi2O3-5% get to 83.7% and 97.4%, and the highest degradation rate constants are 0.0072 min⁻¹ and 0.0158 min⁻¹ under visible light and full light, respectively. The ternary photocatalyst rGO/COF-C4N/NH2-Bi2O3-5% maintained its performance even after four consecutive cycles, only decreasing by 5% of its degradation rate. The degradation experiments for other chlorophenols pollutants under visible light displayed that this ternary heterojunction is mainly applicable to the degradation of 2-cp and 2, 4-dcp, but inefficient for cp, 3-cp, and 4-cp. The degradation rates of 2, 4-dcp could reach 85.1% under visible light. Based on the analysis of band structure, free radical trapping experiment and photoelectrochemical properties, the photocatalytic degradation mechanism of chlorophenols by type II rGO/COF-C4N/NH2-Bi2O3 heterojunction was proposed, in which h+ and ∙OH- have main influence on the degradation activity, and the rGO plays an important role in improving the charge transfer and separation. This work provides a choice for the effective removal of chlorophenols wastewater by photocatalysis

[email protected] composite was fabricated for greater adsorption capacity through the utilization of corncob, which is a natural, sustainable, and cellulose-rich resource. An in-situ growth strategy was implemented to graft UiO-66-NH 2 on carboxyl-terminal corncob induced by the thermal esterification of critic acid. Subsequently, [email protected] 2 @TpBD was constructed through the Schiff base reaction between 2,4,6-triformylphloroglucinol (Tp) and UiO-66-NH 2 as well as benzidine (BD). The ratio of UiO-66-NH 2 and TpBD was optimized to be 5:3 for enhancing adsorption capacity. Based on the π-π, hydrogen bonding, and -SO 2 -Zr-O- coordination effect, sulphonamides (SAs) were chosen to investigate the adsorption capacity of adsorbent using an in-syringe solid phase extraction (IS-SPE) method. The binding energy calculated using density functional theory (DFT) reached −37.45 Kcal/mol, which indicated the strong interactions between SAs and [email protected] 2 @TpBD. Combined with ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC), a high sensitivity was obtained with low detection of 0.10 μg/L. The prepared [email protected] 2 @TpBD exhibited good reproducibility within relative standard deviations (RSDs) 3.1%-3.4% in intra-batch and 4.3%-8.4% in inter-batch. Moreover, the extraction capacity of adsorbent was not decreased in 20 recycles adsorption–desorption within RSDs 3.8%-8.5%. With features of permanent porosity, multiple active sites, and good renewability, [email protected] 2 @TpBD shows great potential towards industrial applications in the field of adsorption.

In this present paper, a novel electrochemical sensor based on a covalent organic framework (COF) and lanthanum oxide (La 2 O 3 ) and multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT S ) was prepared for sensitive and selective detection of dopamine (DA) and uric acid (UA). The sensor demonstrated excellent analytical performance for DA and UA owing to the synergistic effect among large surface area of COF, highly conducting MWCNTs and highly catalytic La 2 O 3 . Particularly, the COF with a BET surface area of 1396.04 m 2 /g prepared by the Schiff base reaction between 2, 5-dibromobenzene-1, 4-dicarbaldehyde (DBTA) and 2, 4, 6-tris(4-aminophenyl)− 1, 3, 5-triazine (TAPT), significantly enhanced the adsorption and enrichment ability of the resulted modified electrode toward the target molecules. The constructed electrochemical sensor possessed low detection limits (0.039 μM for DA and 0.024 μM for UA) and wide linear ranges (2 ~ 450 μM for DA and 0.4 ~ 450 μM for UA) and could be employed to detect simultaneously the contents of DA and UA in biological and medicine samples with outstanding reproducibility, high stability as well as strong anti-interference property.

A new three-dimensional(3D) covalent organic framework (COF) was designed and synthesized. It showed excellent fluorescence property and good fluorescence response for water. The fluorescence property decreased with the addition of water, and it showed good linearity in the water concentration range of 0.1–1.5 wt% with R 2 of 0.9988. The detection limit of water in acetonitrile was 0.036 wt%. It also showed good adsorption performance for polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and the extraction performance of PCBs from water samples was evaluated GC–MS/MS. The optimized conditions were pH 7; adsorbent amount, 20 mg; eluent, 1.0 mL hexane; desorption time, 5 min. The obtained recoveries were in the range of 90.9%–101.3%. The limits of detection and limits of quantitation for PCBs were in the range of 0.56–2.81 ng/L and 2.0–8.7 ng/L, respectively. This is the first report of COFs which showed both excellent fluorescence and adsorption performance.
