Nitrogen-doped graphene coupled with aligned polyaniline cores arrays (NG/PANI) has been successfully prepared by in-situ dilution polymerization. The polyaniline core arrays in situ grows on nitrogen-doped graphene nanosheets to form hierarchical NG/PANI hybrid nanosheets. Electrochemical measurements show that NG/PANI nanocomposite electrode exhibits outstanding electrochemical performance compared with individual electrode. Especially, the as-prepared NG/PANI-35% electrode exhibits the highest specific capacitance of 620 F g −1 at 0.5 A g −1 (with 76% capacitance retention as the current density increased 20-folds) and keeps high capacitance retention of 87.4% at 5 A g −1 after 5000 charge-discharge cycles, which due to nitrogen doping and synergistic effect between hierarchical nitrogen-doped graphene nanosheets and aligned polyaniline cores arrays. The asymmetric supercapacitor on the basis of NG/PANI nanocomposite and actived carbon (AC) delivers a superior energy density of 31.14 W h kg −1 at 800 W kg −1 . The splendid electrochemical properties are attributed to PANI cores arrays in situ growth on the surface of nitrogen-doped graphene nanosheets, which can shorten the path of ions diffusion and charge transport, protect the structure of composites effectively, and avoid the volume change of polyaniline during the charging and discharging process. Therefore, well-designed hierarchical NG/PANI nanocomposite could be a promising candidate for high-performance supercapacitors.

Camphor sulfonic acid (CSA)-doped polyamide 6/polyaniline (PA6/PANI) composite nanofibers were fabricated usingin situpolymerization of aniline under different CSA concentrations (0.02, 0.04, 0.06, 0.08 and 0.10 M) with electrospun PA6 nanofibers as templates. The structural, morphological and ammonia sensing properties of the prepared composite nanofibers were studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), four-point probe techniques, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and a home-made gas sensing test system. All the results indicated that the CSA concentration had a great influence on the sensing properties of CSA-doped PA6/PANI composite nanofibers. The composite nanofibers doped with 0.02 M CSA showed the best ammonia sensing properties, with a significant sensitivity toward ammonia (NH3) at room temperature, superior to that of the composite nanofibers doped with 0.04–0.10 mol/L CSA. It was found that for high concentrations of CSA, the number of PANI–H+reacted with NH3would not make up a high proportion of all PANI–H+within certain limits. As a result, within a certain range even though higher CSA-doped PA6/PANI nanofibers had better conductivity, their ammonia sensing performance would degrade. Keywords:polyaniline;camphor sulfonic acid;polyamide 6;ammonia;gas sensor

Lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs) provide high capacity and energy density for advanced energy storage but encounter performance and safety issues due to lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) dissolution and dendrite formation. This study introduces a dual-functional SnO 2 -CNT-PANI||PP=|SnO 2 separator (DF-SNCPS) aimed at improving the stability and safety of LSBs. The separator includes a SnO 2 -CNT-PANI layer on the sulfur cathode side for enhanced electrical conductivity and polysulfide adsorption and a SnO 2 nanoparticle (nano-SnO 2 ) layer on the lithium anode side to regulate lithium-ion concentration and inhibit dendrite growth. Density functional theory (DFT) and the phase field method have verified the relevant material's catalytic performance and dendrite suppression ability. These methods have provided a comprehensive understanding of the underlying mechanisms, providing auxiliary explanations for their role in catalyzing polysulfide conversion and suppressing lithium dendrite growth. This innovative design mitigates the shuttle effect and enhances cyclic stability and sulfur utilization, achieving a notable cyclic performance with a capacity retention of 0.05 % per cycle over 800 cycles at 1 C. The synergistic effects of the modified separator present a viable pathway for LSB commercialization.

Nowadays, self-healing materials have been studied actively in electronics, soft robotics, aerospace, and automobiles because they can prolong the life span of the materials. However, overcoming the trade-off relationship between mechanical properties and self-healing performance is challenging. Herein, graphene oxide-polyaniline (GO-PANI) filler was introduced to overcome this challenge because GO has a highly excellent modulus, and nitrogen atoms in PANI can endow a self-healing ability through hydrogen bonds. Aside from the hydrogen bond in PANI, the hydrogen bond in the carbonyl group and the disulfide exchange bond in the epoxy matrix also helped the materials heal efficiently. Therefore, the modulus of SV-GPN1 (Self-healing Vitrimer-GO-PANI1) reached 770 MPa, and a 65.0% healing efficiency was demonstrated. The modulus and self-healing efficiency were enhanced after adding GO-PANI filler. The self-healing ability, however, deteriorated when adding more GO-PANI filler because it hindered the collision between the molecules. Meanwhile, SV-GPN1 was excellent in reproducibility, which was proven by the experiment that 16.50 mm thick SV-GPN1 also displayed a self-healing ability. Thus, SV-GPN1 can be applied to structural materials in industries like aerospace because of its self-healing ability, excellent modulus, and reproducibility.

The advancement of wireless gas sensing signifies a substantial leap forward in gas detection and intelligent monitoring technologies. This necessitates stringent design criteria for gas sensitive materials with good solution processability, conductivity, and porosity, whose design and synthesis remain challenging yet highly sought-after. Herein, the fabrication of NUS-8/polyaniline (PANI) nanosheets is presented with excellent solution processability, high porosity, triboelectric property, and superior electrical conductivity via a template-directed polymerization strategy. Solution processable NUS-8 nanosheets, synthesized directly by a “one-pot” approach, serve as templates to enhance the “on-site” polymerization of aniline, resulting in the formation of PANI layer on NUS-8 nanosheets with a thickness of 7 nm. The resultant NUS-8/PANI nanosheets exhibit outstanding solution processability, and a film conductivity of 8.6 S m −1 . The solution processability enables the facile fabrication of homogeneous and compact NUS-8/PANI films and thus their integration onto electronic devices targeted for multifunctional sensing. The NUS-8/PANI coated sensors demonstrate sensitive and selective detection at room temperature toward ultratrace ammonia with a detection limit of 120 ppb. A wireless sensing system based on the NUS-8/PANI-coated sensor is capable to monitor the spoilage process of meat. This study paves novel avenues for designing and synthesizing gas-sensitive materials for practical applications.

Body temperature is critical indicator of human health, and its real-time monitoring is crucial for assessing body status and disease diagnosis. In this work, a flexible temperature sensor is presented that employs a graphite/polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)/polyaniline composite and demonstrates a negative temperature coefficient (NTC). This sensor exhibits high sensitivity (−0.832%/ °C), rapid response time (11.05 s), and excellent linearity ( R 2 = 0.98). Its integration with a self-adhesion PDMS-PEG substrate layer ensures close skin contact, enhancing the accuracy of temperature measurements. Notably, the sensor's stability and resistance to sweat and deformation ensure continuous, reliable temperature monitoring, even during extensive exercise. This sensor thus represents a significant advancement in flexible and waterproof temperature sensing technologies.

Hybrid capacitive deionization (HCDI) is an innovative CDI technology that outperforms conventional CDI concerning desalination capability and charge efficiency. However, underutilized cathodes or anodes and mismatched kinetic behavior remain unsatisfactory given the imbalanced device architecture consisting of the capacitor and Faraday electrodes. Herein, we proposed a pseudo-capacitive behaviors induced dual-ion selective deionization (Di-CDI) strategy where molybdenum disulfide/polypyrrole (MoS 2 /PPy) acted as Na + intercalation cathode, and Ag-coated polyaniline-modified activated carbon (Ag@PANI/AC) served as Cl − trapping anode. In this system, the hollow PPy nanotube as the core is anchored by ultrathin MoS 2 nanoflakes, connecting loose MoS 2 nanoflowers to form a 3D flower-chain network, which holds convenient electron transfer routes and fast charge transport channels, facilitating accelerated ion diffusion process. Besides, Ag@PANI/AC was synthesized by modifying Ag particles on a 3D electron conduction substrate constructed by coupling PANI and AC, where Ag is responsible for the conversion reaction with Cl − to create AgCl. The conduction matrix compensates for the low conductivity of AgCl, enabling fast adsorption kinetics. As expected, the assembled Di-CDI system MoS 2 /PPy//Ag@PANI/AC delivers an excellent adsorption capacity of 25.1 mg g -1 , outstanding desalination rate (5.88 mg g -1 min -1 ), superior cycle stability (91.5% retention rate), and promoted charge efficiency of 56.2%, validating that this strategy supplies a viable way to achieve more energy-efficient CDI.

Resistive-type polyaniline (PANI) based sensing film was fabricated by a simple in-situ polymerization method with graphene (GP) as additives on flexible porous polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) substrate. The fabricated flexible GP-PANI/PVDF membrane demonstrates a multi-hierarchical porous microstructure, enhancing its sensing performance towards ammonia (NH 3 ). The optimized GP-PANI/PVDF sensor shows 60% response towards 1 ppm NH 3 with a response time of 46 s, and 10% response towards 0.1 ppm NH 3 at 24℃, respectively. Moreover, the GP-PANI/PVDF sensor presents excellent flexibility, exhibiting only small response values’ difference upon several bending angles and after 1500 bending/extending cycles. Besides, the GP-PANI/PVDF sensor exhibits a strong linear relationship between the NH 3 response values and working temperatures with a range of 24℃∼50℃. The results demonstrate that the flexible GP-PANI/PVDF film sensor holds great promise for the application of portable, lightweight, and room temperature sub-ppm level NH 3 detection devices.

Novel electromagnetic functionalized carbon nanofibers (CNFs) have been synthesized by coating with Fe3O4 magnetite nanoparticles and conducting polymers polyaniline (PANI) on CNFs through a layer by layer assembly. The Fe3O4@CNFs were first prepared by coating nano-Fe3O4 particles on CNFs via co-precipitation method; Then the PANI was coated on Fe3O4@CNFs using an in situ polymerization process to obtain PANI@Fe3O4@CNFs nanoparticles. The prepared PANI@Fe3O4@CNFs nanoparticles were dispersed in the epoxy matrix to fabricate microwave absorbing nanocomposites. Compared with the Fe3O4@CNFs/epoxy nanocomposites, the PANI@Fe3O4@CNFs/epoxy nanocomposites exhibit better microwave absorbing properties. The composite containing 15 wt% of PANI@Fe3O4@CNFs with the thickness of 2 mm showed a minimum reflection loss (RL) value of −23.7 dB with an effective absorption bandwidth which is about 3.7 GHz (11.9–15.6 GHz) in the frequency range of 1–18 GHz, indicating that it is an attractive candidate for efficient microwave absorber. A potential absorption mechanism was proposed for enhancement of the impedance-matching condition and electromagnetic wave-attenuation characteristic of materials. Specifically, the impedance-matching condition was improved by the combination of conductive polymers and magnetic nanoparticles with CNFs. The electromagnetic wave attenuation characteristic was enhanced by multiple reflections, due to the increased propagation paths.

CdS is a very good visible-light responsive photocatalyst for hydrogen production. However, the fast recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs and quick photocorrosion limit its application in photocatalysis. To address these problems, we herein have designed and synthesized monodisperse polyaniline@cadmium sulfide (PANI@CdS) core-shell nanospheres to probe the mechanisms of photocorrosion inhibition and photocatalytic H 2 production. All the PANI@CdS core-shell nanospheres demonstrate highly enhanced photocorrosion inhibition and photocatalytic hydrogen production comparing to the pure CdS nanospheres. Particularly, the PANI@CdS core-shell nanospheres with the thinnest PANI shell possess the highest hydrogen production rate of 310 μmol h −1 g −1 in 30 h without deactivation. Our results reveal that the newly formed C S and/or N Cd bonds in PANI@CdS prevent the reduction of the surface sulfide ions to sulphur, leading to effective photocorrosion inhibition. Our results also verify that the photogenerated holes migrating from valence band (VB) of CdS to the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) of PANI leads to the enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen production. This work can shed some light on the mechanism of conducting polymers modifying metal sulfides for effective photocorrosion inhibition and highly enhanced photocatalytic activities.

Developing high-efficiency electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorbers for the low frequency (1–8 GHz) remains a formidable challenge, primarily due to the inherent conflict between thickness reduction and impedance matching at longer wavelengths. Herein, we propose a supercritical CO 2 (SC CO 2 ) fluid-assisted interfacial engineering strategy to construct a hierarchical “core-shell-satellite” carbon nanotube/polyaniline/nickel (CNT/PANI/Ni) ternary composite. Unlike conventional liquid-phase methods that suffer from phase agglomeration, the gas-like diffusivity and negligible surface tension of SC CO 2 facilitate the uniform encapsulation of PANI on CNTs and the atomic-scale anchoring of Ni nanoparticles via robust Ni-N coordination bonds. This unique architecture effectively moderates the conductivity of the CNT network to optimize impedance matching, while the abundant heterogeneous interfaces (CNT/PANI and PANI/Ni) induce significant Maxwell-Wagner-Sillars (MWS) polarization and dipole relaxation losses. Consequently, the optimized CNT/PANI/Ni composite exhibits exceptional low-frequency absorption performance, achieving a minimum reflection loss (RL min ) of −57.11 dB at 6.47 GHz with a matching thickness of only 3.5 mm, overcoming the “thickness bottleneck” of low-frequency absorbers. This work not only provides a scalable route for fabricating heterogeneous composites but also unravels the mechanism of SC CO 2 -induced interfacial synergy, offering a robust solution for anti-interference in 5G and satellite communications.

Flexible supercapacitors have emerged as promising energy storage devices, owing to their high power density and long cycle life. However, the development of electrode materials with high specific capacitance, superior electrochemical and mechanical stability remains a critical challenge. In this work, we report a facile strategy for fabricating cellulose nanofiber (CNF)-carbon nanotube (CNT)@polyaniline (PANI) nanocomposite aerogels via TEMPO oxidation, freeze-drying, and in-situ polymerization. The CNFs serve as a dispersive scaffold to uniformly distribute CNTs, forming a three-dimensional (3D) interconnected network, while PANI coats the CNF-CNT hybrid to construct a core-shell structure, enhancing pseudocapacitive performance. The resulting CNF-CNT@PANI aerogel exhibits a hierarchical porous structure with a high specific surface area of 121.4 m 2 g -1 and low density of 12.8 mg cm -3 . The assembled flexible supercapacitors deliver a high areal specific capacitance of 722.4 mF cm -2 at 2 mA cm -2 , long-term capacitive cyclic stability (86% capacitance retention after 3000 cycles), and remarkable mechanical stability (95.2% capacitance retention after 200 bending cycles). Additionally, the device achieves a maximum areal energy density of 99.5 μWh cm -2 at a power density of 1005.4 μW cm -2 , outperforming many reported PANI-based supercapacitors. This work provides a feasible approach for designing high-performance flexible electrode materials for next-generation energy storage systems.
