Synthesis of PDA-BN@f-Al2O3 hybrid for nanocomposite epoxy coating with superior corrosion protective properties

Pengying Wan,Nie Zhao,Fugang Qi,Biao Zhang,Hailong Xiong,Heng Yuan,Bin Liao,Xiaoping Ouyang

A novel PDA-BN@f-Al 2 O 3 nanohybrid was synthesized by depositing Al 2 O 3 nanoparticles modified with γ γ -Aminopropyltriethoxysilane (KH550) on the surface of hexagonal boron-nitride (h-BN) sheets covered with polydopamine (PDA). Then, PDA-BN@f-Al 2 O 3 hybrids was dispersed in epoxy resin to prepare composite coating samples. Many characterizations revealed that the functionalized Al 2 O 3 successfully deposited on the surface of PDA-BN platelets and PDA-BN@f-Al 2 O 3 hybrids showed good dispersibility in the epoxy resin, and the interfacial adhesion between hybrids and epoxy matrix was improved. Furthermore, the effects of Al 2 O 3 , h-BN and various mixtures of PDA-BN@f-Al 2 O 3 hybrids at a low weight fraction of 1 % on the corrosion resistance of epoxy coating were studied by electrochemical measurement and salt spray test. The potentiodynamic polarization test revealed that PDA-BN@f-Al 2 O 3 hybrids have a corrosion inhibitive performance. Moreover, the coating resistance of PDA-BN@f-Al 2 O 3 (3:1)/epoxy was enhanced by three orders of magnitude compared with neat epoxy after 5 d immersion. This study provides a promising application prospect for the development of superior metal protective organic coatings.

Fluorescent aptasensor based on D-AMA/F-CSC for the sensitive and specific recognition of myoglobin

Dongwei Miao,Dongkui Liu,Yanbo Zeng,Guobao Zhou,Wei Xie,Yiwen Yang,Hailong Wang,Jian Zhang,Yunyun Zhai,Zulei Zhang,Lei Li

A novel fluorescent biosensor based on dabcyl [(E)-4-((4-(dimethylamino) phenyl) diazenyl)benzoic acid] -modified anti-Mb aptamer (D-AMA) and 6-FAM(6-carboxyfluorescein) -modified complementary short chain (F-CSC)for the specific and sensitive detection of Mb levels is presented in this study. In PBS buffer solution, D-AMA bound to F-CSC, and then dabcyl quenched the fluorescence of 6-FAM. After adding Mb into the system, D-AMA bound to Mb and separated from F-CSC. The fluorescence of 6-FAM was restored after it separated from dabcyl. The assay exhibited high specificity and sensitivity toward Mb, with a low limit of detection of 0.07 ng/mL (S/N = 3) and linear relationships of 0.1–5 ng/mL. It was further applied to detect Mb levels in spiked human blood sera samples.

Reverting fluoroform back to chlorodifluoromethane and dichlorofluoromethane: Intermolecular Cl/F exchange with chloroform at moderate temperatures

Wenfeng Han,Jinchao Wang,Lulu Chen,Luteng Yang,Shucheng Wang,Miao Xi,Haodong Tang,Wucan Liu,Weiyu Song,Jianjun Zhang,Ying Li,Huazhang Liu

Trifluoromethane is one of the most potent and stable greenhouse gases with global warming potential of 14,800 times higher than CO 2 (100-year time horizon). At present, it is destroyed by incineration or plasma at temperatures above 1200 K. For the first time, this work report that CHF 3 can be reverted to HCFC-22 via the intermolecular Cl/F exchange reaction of CHF 3 with CHCl 3 over AlF 3 catalyst under moderate conditions. As CHF 3 is produced during the manufacture of HCFC-22 via the fluorination of CHCl 3 in liquid phase, no additional feedstock and products are involved for the treatment of CHF 3 in this proposed process. At 593 K and atmospheric pressure, CHF 3 conversion levels of about 18%–20% are achieved and no significant deactivation is observed following time on stream of 100 h. In addition, the catalytic reaction mechanism is proposed. According to the experiments and DFT calculation, the intermolecular Cl/F exchange reaction of CHF 3 with CHCl 3 is mainly initiated by the breakage of C Cl. The present work provides a potential resource utilization route for the treatment of CHF 3 and other hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs).

Synthesis and characterization of iron-based catalyst on mesoporous titania for photo-thermal F-T synthesis

Shiyong Yu,Tao Zhang,Yanhong Xie,Qinghua Wang,Xuechuan Gao,Renfei Zhang,Yulong Zhang,Haiquan Su

In this paper, a series of iron-based Fischer–Tropsch catalysts were prepared with mesoporous titanium dioxide as catalyst carrier. And the F-T catalytic activities of iron supported on the mesoporous TiO 2 with different doping concentrations were also investigated in photo-thermal driven Fischer–Tropsch synthesis. Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Low temperature N 2 adsorption-desorption, X ray powder diffraction (XRD), Temperature Programmed Reduction (TPR) were used to characterize the catalysts, and the catalytic performance were also investigated for Photo-thermal driven Fischer–Tropsch synthesis under the condition of atmospheric pressure at the temperature of 220 °C, n (H 2 )/ n (CO) = 2:1 and GHSV = 1500 h −1 . It is shown that, for different doping concentration of iron, the conversion of CO, the selectivity of methane and the selectivity of C 2+ changes, resulting in the difference performance of Photo-thermal Fischer Tropsch synthesis reaction.

Supported ultrafine ruthenium oxides with specific capacitance up to 1099 F g−1 for a supercapacitor

Pengfei Wang,Hui Liu,Yuxing Xu,Yunfa Chen,Jun Yang,Qiangqiang Tan

Reducing the particle size is a straightforward way to increase the specific surface area of ruthenium oxide, which usually translates to the high specific capacitance for a supercapacitor. Herein, we report a facile strategy to fabricate ultrafine ruthenium oxides supported on various carbon-based substrates (carbon powders, carbon nanotubes, or reduced graphene oxides) as excellent electrode materials for a supercapacitor. The novelty of this work lies in its synthetic approach, which involves an aqueous synthesis of ruthenium nanoclusters under the control of pH value, and an air oxidation-based conversion process. In particular, owing to their ultrafine particle size, the as-prepared carbon-, carbon nanotube-, or reduced graphene oxide-supported ruthenium oxides exhibit specific capacitance as high as 879.1   F   g −1 , 966.8   F   g −1 and 1099.6   F   g −1 , respectively, for a supercapacitor at a current density of 0.5   A   g −1 . The specific capacitance maintains 98.4% (for carbon supports), 98.0% (for carbon nanotube supports) and 98.4% (for reduced graphene oxide supports) at current density of 1   A   g −1 with good cycling stability. The remarkable simplicity and environmental friendliness of this synthesis may provide a liable quantity production route to produce ruthenium oxides as highly efficient electrode materials for a supercapacitor.

Improved Electron Distribution in Graphene Quantum Dots Carrier by F, N Co-Doping for Electrocatalytic ORR

Sun Min,Chu Siyu,Guo Dongfang,Jiao Xinyu,Wang Haiyan,Wang Lingli,Li Zijiong,Jiang Liying

Rising energy demand has forced to look for new ways to convert energy. Graphene quantum dots (GQD) has received extensive attention in many fields due to their low toxicity, abundant active sites, sound water solubility and photoluminescence stability. Here, a fluorine-nitrogen co-doped GQD (C-GQD) is synthesized for efficient oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalysts. The incorporation of fluorine and nitrogen atoms changed the electronic structure of the carbon atom, resulting into synergistic enhancement of catalytic performance toward ORR. Electrochemical studies of the ORR showed that the initial potentials of C-GQD were positively shifted by 200 mV and 170 mV compared with those of GQD and N-GQD, respectively, and the half-wave potentials were positively shifted by 200 mV and 180 mV, which were comparable to that of 20% Pt/C. The CV curves underwent only slight fluctuations after 10,000 cycle tests. The obtained results provide important insights into the use of metal-free catalysts with GQDs as carriers as promising electrocatalysts for proton exchange membrane fuel cells with low cost and easy preparation procedures. MOF-Mediated Construction of NiCoMn-LDH Nanoflakes Assembled Co(OH)F Nanorods for Improved Supercapacitive Performance

Zhou Wang,Yijie Lian,Xinde Zhu,Qi Wang

The application of transition metal hydroxides has long been plagued by its poor conductivity and stability as well as severe aggregation tendency. In this paper, a novel hierarchical core–shell architecture, using an F-doped Co(OH)2nanorod array (Co(OH)F) as the core and Mn/Ni co-doped Co(OH)2nanosheets (NiCoMn-LDH) as the shell, was constructed via an MOF-mediated in situ generation method. The obtained Co(OH)F@ NiCoMn-LDH composites exhibited excellent supercapacitive performance with large specific capacitance as well as improved rate capability and long-term stability. The effect of the Ni/Mn ratio on the supercapacitive performance and energy storage kinetics was systematically investigated and the related mechanism was revealed.

Detection of Fe(III)EDTA by using photoluminescent carbon dot with the aid of F− ion

Nan Wang,Huijuan Chai,Xuelin Dong,Qian Zhou,Lihua Zhu

Iron(III) ethylenediaminetetraacetate (Fe(III)EDTA) is widely used in iron fortification for reducing iron deficiency, and its determination is urgently needed. The present work developed a fluorescent method to straightforwardly determine Fe(III)EDTA by using photoluminescent carbon dots (C-dots) with the aid of F − ions as the masking agent of free Fe 3+ ions. In the presence of F − ions, only Fe(III)EDTA selectively quenched the photoluminescence of C-dots, and both Fe 3+ and Fe 2+ as well as other carboxylic acids have no effect on the emission of C-dots. The sensing mechanism was attributed to the ligand-tailored electron transfer process from C-dots to Fe 3+ . Under optimum conditions, this method showed a linear calibration plot over the Fe(III)EDTA range of 1.0–200 μmol L −1 and a detection limit of 0.4 μmol L −1 . The proposed method was successfully applied to determine Fe(III)EDTA in real samples with acceptable recoveries of spikes (95%−110%) and repeatability (RSD, 4.2%−9.5%).

Fluoride-Mediated Synthesis of Co(OH)F and Electronic Structure Optimization for Enhanced Water Oxidation Performance

Qianqian Dong,Yuhao Li,Jihao Liu,Yaru Wen,Junjie Wang,Haining Mo,Qianqian Jin,Shaohui Zhang,Xiong He

This study deciphers the anionic modulation mechanism of halide ions (F−/Cl−) in cobalt-based hydroxides for oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Phase-pure Co(OH)2, Co(OH)F, and Co2(OH)3Cl were fabricated via substrate-independent hydrothermal synthesis to eliminate conductive support interference. Electrocatalytic evaluation on glassy carbon electrodes demonstrates fluoride’s superior regulatory capability over chloride. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses revealed that F−incorporation induces charge redistribution through Co → F electron transfer, optimizing the electronic configuration via ligand effects. F−incorporation simultaneously guided the anisotropic growth of 1D nanorods and reduced surface energy, thereby enhancing the wettability of Co(OH)F. The engineered Co(OH)F catalyst delivers exceptional OER performance: 318 mV overpotential at 10 mA/cm2in 1 M KOH with 94% current retention over 20 h operation. This study provides a synthetic strategy for preparing pure-phase Co(OH)F and compares halide ions’ effects on enhancing OER activity through electronic structure modulation and morphological control of basic cobalt salts.

Ultra-selective uranium separation by in-situ formation of π-f conjugated 2D uranium-organic framework

Zhang Qing Yun,Zhang Lin Juan,Zhu Jian Qiu,Gong Le Le,Huang Zhe Cheng,Gao Feng,Wang Jian Qiang,Xie Xian Qing,Luo Feng

With the rapid development of nuclear energy, problems with uranium supply chain and nuclear waste accumulation have motivated researchers to improve uranium separation methods. Here we show a paradigm for such goal based on the in-situ formation of π - f conjugated two-dimensional uranium-organic framework. After screening five π -conjugated organic ligands, we find that 1,3,5-triformylphloroglucinol would be the best one to construct uranium-organic framework, thus resulting in 100% uranium removal from both high and low concentration with the residual concentration far below the WHO drinking water standard (15 ppb), and 97% uranium capture from natural seawater (3.3 ppb) with a record uptake efficiency of 0.64 mg·g −1 ·d −1 . We also find that 1,3,5-triformylphloroglucinol can overcome the ion-interference issue such as the presence of massive interference ions or a 21-ions mixed solution. Our finds confirm the superiority of our separation approach over established ones, and will provide a fundamental molecule design for separation upon metal-organic framework chemistry.

Versatile superhydrophobic PDMS@F-MOF@MS Sponge: Efficient oil-water separation, antimicrobial activity, and photocatalytic performance

Yue Lian,Hong Chen,Yanwen Xiao,Qiaoyu Huang,Zhaoxia Chen,Sijing Jiang,Yuhong Zhang

The increasing contamination of water resources by oily wastewater and human activities necessitates the development of efficient strategies for the remediation of polluted water sources. Due to the diversity of pollution sources, such as industrial wastewater, organic dyes, bacteria, and other complex pollutants, it is meaningful to develop a material capable of simultaneously treating these pollutants. The hydrophobic melamine sponge (PDMS@F-MOF@MS) was prepared using a simple impregnation method using zirconium metal-organic framework (UiO-66-NH 2 ), 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecyl trichlorosilane (FDTS), and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). The obtained PDMS@F-MOF@MS demonstrates remarkable superhydrophobic with a water contact angle of up to 156°. In addition, the PDMS@F-MOF@MS has robust adsorption capacity for a variety of organic solvents/oils (capable of absorbing 14.44 to 41.83 times its weight), a separation efficiency rate surpassing 95.9 %, and the ability to effectively separate oil-in-water emulsions. Furthermore, PDMS@F-MOF@MS demonstrates good mechanical properties and chemical stability, as well as good antibacterial and photocatalytic degradation properties. This project offers a valuable guide for the creation of versatile oil-water separation materials that can separate oil and water in variety of oily wastewater.

Unlocking F-O synergistic effects in TiOF2-based nano-thermites: Enhanced combustion performance and reaction kinetics

Wenyu Li,Yajun Wang,Qiang Gan,Zhengliang Deng,Junhan Gao

Developing efficient oxidizers is critical for advancing nano thermites. Titanium oxyfluoride (TiOF 2 ) with oxygen/fluorine dual-active centers is innovatively employed as an oxidizer in Al/TiOF 2 composites prepared via physical mixing. Structural and morphology characterization confirms uniform interfacial contact while preserving component stability. The system demonstrates exceptional reactivity: onset and peak reaction temperatures (409.4°C, 470.0°C) are reduced by 139.1°C and 130.7°C, respectively, versus Al/TiO 2 , with activation energy lowered to 84.35 kJ·mol −1 . Synergistic F–O interactions impair reaction barriers, yielding 3692.2J·g −1 heat release (120 % increase over Al/TiO 2 ). Combustion tests reveal vigorous ignition under low energy input, rapid flame propagation, and two-stage spark ejection. This work reveals the activation mechanism of oxyfluoride as an oxidizer for thermites: fluorine enhances the reaction kinetics through an interfacial modification effect, while oxygen guarantees the energy density of the system. The synergy of the two elements realizes the optimization and regulation of combustion performance.
