Fluorine-doped Mo-Ni-F/NF bifunctional electrode for efficient electrochemical hydrogen storage via quinoxaline

Qiyuexin Wang,Hanyu Li,Huan Li,Xueying Yang,Fangcheng Qiu,Dacheng Zhou,Zhengwen Yang,Xin Zhen,Jianbei Qiu

The implementation of liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHCs) is constrained by the high energy consumption and strong dependence on precious‑metal catalysts in conventional thermal processes. This work develops a fluorine-doped Mo-Ni-F/NF bifunctional electrode through a simple electrochemical deposition-sintering method for efficient electrochemical hydrogen storage using quinoxaline under ambient conditions. XRD and TEM characterization revealed a unique structure comprising a MoNi₄ shell with embedded Ni nanoparticles, while SEM and EDS mapping confirmed uniform fluoride distribution and enhanced surface morphology. XPS analysis indicated that fluoride modification improved surface characteristics without altering chemical states. The catalyst demonstrates exceptional performance in reversible quinoxaline hydrogenation (92.1 % conversion after 5 h, 95.6 % FE) and dehydrogenation (100 % conversion after 4 h, 97.2 % FE). DFT calculations showed that electron transfer between MoNi₄ and nickel nanoparticles enhanced catalytic activity, while fluorine modulation reduced the adsorption energy of quinoxaline on nickel (111) from −2.84 eV to −0.55 eV, and tetrahydroquinoxaline from −2.08 eV to −0.84 eV, mitigating catalyst poisoning. In situ Raman spectroscopy identified dynamically formed NiOOH as the active phase, which facilitates proton-coupled dehydrogenation via -OH/μ-O-Ni intermediates. This work provides novel catalytic materials and mechanistic insights for the development of low-cost, room-temperature, and highly effective electrochemical LOHC systems.

Ultra-sensitive Fiber-OECT biosensor enabled by ZIF-67/f-MWCNT for noninvasive urea monitoring

Li Jinsong,Shi Xiaoxia,Yang Huihuang,Cai Li,Li Zhongbo,Zhang Lijun

Urea is a key biomarker for diagnosing various kidney and liver disorders, which can be assessed through sensing platforms. However, existing urea sensors have performance issues in real samples. Herein, a novel fiber-organic electrochemical transistor (F-OECT) sensing platform was constructed by sequentially depositing cobalt-based metal-organic framework material (ZIF-67), carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes, poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene), and urease on cotton fibers for urea determination. The resulting F-OECT sensor exhibited excellent performance toward urea detection with a high sensitivity (82.91 μA/decade). This performance is attributed to the synergistic effect of the hierarchical composite: the significantly enlarged electrochemically active surface area of PEDOT/f-MWCNT/ZIF-67 facilitates high-density urease immobilization, while the conductive network ensures efficient signal transduction, coupled with the intrinsic signal amplification of the OECT architecture. Under optimized conditions, the F-OECT sensor illustrated a wide linear response range (1 pM-10 mM) and a low detection limit of 1 pM toward the detection of urea, coupled with an excellent selectivity, reproducibility, and stability. More importantly, the F-OECT sensor was able to detect urea in real sweat and urine samples. Based on these encouraging data, the F-OECT sensor was connected to a printed circuit board to transmit signals via Bluetooth, and the results showed a sensor capable of visually quantifying urea. Overall, the proposed F-OECT sensor looks promising for future non-invasive and sensitive liquid detection of urea, thereby deserving further research and development.

Xue Bai,Wen Li,Aijia Wei,Qian Chang,Lihui Zhang,Zhenfa Liu

Spinel Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 doped with F was synthesized via the solid-state reaction of anatase TiO 2 , Li 2 CO 3 , and NH 4 F. The structural characterization and electrochemical performance evaluation of the prepared materials were carried out utilizing X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, galvanostatic charge-discharge, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and cyclic voltammetry (CV) tests. The lattice parameters of all samples were calculated using an internal standard and Rietveld refinement method. The results indicate that the F was successfully doped into the lattice structure of Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 , and this process did not influence the crystal structure and superficial morphology. Moreover, the best-performing material, Li 4 Ti 5 O 11.9 F 0.1 delivers superior rate capacities of 165, 162.1, 160.0, 142.3, 125.1, and 99.2 mAh g −1 , at 0.2 C, 0.5 C, 1 C, 3 C, 5 C, and 10 C, respectively, which is higher than those of Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 (150.0, 135.0, 123.5, 93.7, 76.4, and 56.8 mAh g −1 at the same C-rates), and the cycling retention is 82.7% after 150 cycles at 5 C. Meanwhile, the charge-transfer resistance (R ct ) of Li 4 Ti 5 O 11.9 F 0.1 (56.4 Ω) is lower than that of pure Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 (80.6 Ω), and the lithium-ion diffusion coefficients (D Li + ) of Li 4 Ti 5 O 11.9 F 0.1 (2.505 × 10 −10  cm 2  s −1 ) is higher than that of pure Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 (1.694 × 10 −10  cm 2  s −1 ).

Study on separation of N, F and Al from hazardous aluminum dross by alkaline roasting

Wei Jie,Liu Zhanwei,Yan Hengwei,Yang Wanzhang

Herein, fluorine fixation, nitrogen removal, and the alkaline solution recovery of alumina were studied using calcium-based high-temperature soda roasting. In addition, the effects of roasting conditions, dissolution conditions, and additives (carbon alkali and calcium salt) on fluorine fixation and alumina recovery were studied. The results show that when the roasting temperature was 1100 ℃ and the roasting time was 2 h, the dissolution temperature was 80 °C, while the dissolution time was 20 min. The ratio of soda to dross was 1.0, and 30 wt% CaCO 3 had been added as a fluorine fixing agent. The Al extraction rate from aluminum dross (AD) reached 86.21%, the denitrification rate reached 99.54%, the concentration of soluble fluoride ion was reduced to 0.111 g·L −1 , and the fluoride fixation rate was 75.04 wt%. CaF 2 is the main component of the leaching residue, which can be added as an insulation material for electrolysis. Alkaline oxidation roasting and calcium-based fluoride fixation are effective methods to separate aluminum, fluoride, and nitrogen. This study provides a new method for the safe and efficient utilization of AD.

F−/OH− terminal modification of [B3O6] clusters: Constructing deep-ultraviolet hydroxyfluorooxoborates with tunable optical performance

Dahong Peng,Hongkang Su,Ziting Yan,Chenxu Li,Shilie Pan,Min Zhang

A systematic comparison of F − /OH − modified [B 3 O 6 ] 3- clusters shows that properties evolve with F − /OH − content. • By changing the type and arrangement of the fundamental building blocks, a breakthrough in dimensionality was achieved. • Tunable optical properties were achieved, namely, the birefringence across the series ranges from 0.013 to 0.112 at 546 nm. Borates stand out as a prominent class of compounds in structural chemistry, acclaimed for their extraordinary structural diversity stemming from the versatile B–O fundamental building blocks (FBBs), and terminal oxygen modification has emerged as a powerful and effective strategy for tailoring their structures and optimizing functional properties. Herein, we report the synthesis of seven novel hydroxyfluorooxoborates with different dimensional framework via F − /OH − terminal modification of the isolated [B 3 O 6 ] 3- cluster, aiming to explore structural diversity and structure-property relationships. These compounds are classified by their FBBs: Compounds I-IV (A 7 [B 3 O 3 F 4 OH] 2 (PF 6 ) 3 , A = Rb, K, Cs, NH 4 ) with [B 3 O 3 F 4 (OH)] 2- ; Compounds V-VI (Cs 1.2 (NH 4 ) 0.8 [B 3 O 3 F 2 (OH) 2 ] 2 and Rb 1.7 K 0.3 [B 3 O 3 F 2 (OH) 2 ] 2 ) with [B 3 O 3 F 2 (OH) 2 ] - ; and Compound VII (Rb 7 [B 3 O 3 F 2 (OH) 2 ] 2 [B 3 O 3 F 4 (OH)](NO 3 ) 2 BF 4 ) with coexisting [B 3 O 3 F 4 (OH)] 2- and [B 3 O 3 F 2 (OH) 2 ] - . The birefringence across the series ranges from small (∼0.013 - 0.024 at 546 nm for I-IV) and moderate (∼0.051 at 546 nm for VII) to large (∼0.063 - 0.112 at 546 nm for V and VI). Structural and properties analyses reveal that F − /OH − substitution eliminates B–O dangling bonds of [B 3 O 6 ] 3- , leading to varied [B 3 O 3 F 2x (OH) 3−x ] (x = 1, 2, 3) and [B 3 O 3 (OH) x ] (x = 3, 4, 5, 6), featuring a distinct structure-property relationship. In the [B 3 O 3 (OH) x ] series, both polarizability anisotropy and band gap decrease with rising hydroxyl content, while hyperpolarizability increases. In contrast, the mixed F − /OH − series exhibit the opposite trend. In conclusion, this work significantly provides a rational synthetic strategy for tailoring FBBs and constructs deep-ultraviolet hydroxyfluorooxoborates with tunable optical performance. Through F − /OH − terminal modification of [B 3 O 6 ] clusters, a structural breakthrough from 0D clusters to a 2D layer was achieved, along with tunable optical properties. BMI-Modified Epoxy Resin and Its Application in an F-Class Simulated Pole Winding Structure

Dong Chen,Xiaoping Huo,Qitai Guo,Tao Liu,Shiqiang Luo,Yue Zhang,Sude Ma

Conventional epoxy adhesives used in motor insulation structures still suffer from insufficient thermal resistance and difficulty in balancing heat resistance with mechanical reliability. In this study, BMI-modified E-51/MeHHPA/EMI-24 epoxy composites were prepared and evaluated as heat-resistant interfacial adhesives for simulated F-class pole windings. BMI/EP composites with different BMI contents were fabricated by melt blending and characterized in terms of curing kinetics, FTIR, mechanical properties, and thermal performance. The optimized formulation was then applied to bond Nomex insulation paper to the upright plate in a simulated pole winding. The results showed that BMI did not alter the main epoxy/anhydride curing pathway, but restricted segmental motion and improved thermal resistance. The 10phr BMI/EP composite exhibited a favorable balance among thermal performance, mechanical properties, and fracture morphology. The simulated winding prepared with this formulation showed no breakdown or flashover under 6800 V/60 s, with an insulation resistance of 64.49 GΩ. A lower-bound apparent temperature index of approximately 157 °C was obtained using the TGA-derived thermal life equation. These results indicate that this system has preliminary application potential as a heat-resistant interfacial adhesive for F-class motor winding insulation, although a complete thermal life assessment is still required.

Waterborne fluorinated emulsion/F-SiO2 amphiphobic coatings for cementitious substrates: Wettability, interfacial adhesion and durability

Zhili Han,Zhiyong Liu,Bo Pang,Siyi Ju,Jinyang Jiang

Cementitious substrates are porous, rough, and alkaline. These characteristics make amphiphobic coatings prone to interfacial failure and make it difficult to simultaneously maintain liquid repellency, adhesion, and functional stability. Existing fluorinated, fluorine-free, and organic–inorganic hybrid amphiphobic coatings can achieve high contact angles on smooth substrates, but their engineering adaptability to rough, porous, and highly alkaline cementitious substrates still needs to be improved. In this study, a waterborne fluorinated emulsion (WFE) was used as the film-forming matrix. Fluorinated SiO 2 (F-SiO 2 ) was introduced to build a micro/nano rough structure. KH-560 and a water-dispersible isocyanate were also added to strengthen the interface and the bulk phase. Unlike previous studies that mainly focused on static contact angles, this work establishes a formulation-structure-adhesion relationship for waterborne amphiphobic coatings on porous and alkaline cementitious substrates. As the ratio of m(binder):m(F-SiO 2 ) changed from 1.0:0–0.2:1.0, the water contact angle increased from 78.0° to 152.3°, and the oil contact angle increased from 40.0° to 143.1°. This indicates a transition from a Wenzel-dominated state to a Cassie–Baxter composite wetting state. A clear transition region appeared near 1.0:0.5. The ratio of 0.5:1.0 was selected as the most balanced formulation among the tested groups because it achieved comparable liquid repellency with better adhesion balance and lower filler loading. After KH−560 and isocyanate were added, the pull-off adhesion strength increased from 1.52 MPa to 2.03 MPa. After immersion in acid/alkali solutions for 48 h, immersion in deionized water for 7 d, 100 cycles of mechanical abrasion, and UV aging for 7 d, the optimized coating still maintained high water and oil repellency, indicating short-term functional retention under laboratory exposure conditions. These results provide an effective strategy for preparing waterborne amphiphobic coatings with balanced liquid repellency, interfacial adhesion, and short-term functional stability on cementitious substrates.

OPTN-TRIP6-mediated F-actin mechanical support regulates phagophore closure to govern craniofacial skeletal development

Zhenyi Lu,Hao Huang,Wanshu Lv,Jingjing Yan,Yumeng Shi,Jieli Ni,Yang Zhang,Rongyao Xu,Geng Wu,Shuyu Guo

Optn loss causes severe bone defects. • OPTN is vital for craniofacial bone development and OMSC osteogenesis. • OPTN cooperates with TRIP6 to recruit F-actin for mitophagy closure. • Actin-driven mitophagy dictates ACP packaging and EV-mediated release. The development of craniofacial bones is highly dependent on the intramembranous ossification process driven by orofacial mesenchymal stem cells (OMSCs). Optineurin (OPTN), a traditional mitophagy receptor, promotes OMSC matrix mineralization by mediating the extracellular release of amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) through the initiation of mitophagy via liquid-liquid phase separation. However, the dynamic mechanisms by which OPTN regulates mitochondrial engulfment remain elusive. In this work, we show that in both zebrafish and mouse models, Optn absence causes systemic bone loss and craniofacial abnormalities. Mechanistically, OPTN recruits thyroid receptor-interacting protein 6 (TRIP6) to the surface of damaged mitochondria, inducing local F-actin polymerization and remodeling, which relies on cytoskeletal mechanical forces to support the bending and closure of the phagophore. The depletion of OPTN or TRIP6 significantly impairs mitophagy flux, triggering a massive accumulation of dysfunctional mitochondria. Overall, this study elucidates that the OPTN-TRIP6-F-actin axis ensures autophagosome closure through cytoskeletal remodeling, revealing a novel paradigm in which cytoskeletal mechanical regulation maintains mitochondrial homeostasis to orchestrate craniofacial osteogenesis. Electronegativity Enhanced Strong Metal–Support Interaction in Ru@F–Ni3N for Enhanced Alkaline Hydrogen Evolution

Qiang Fu,Lei Lin,Tao Wu,Qinghua Zhang,Xianjie Wang,Lingling Xu,Jun Zhong,Lin Gu,Zhihua Zhang,Ping Xu,Bo Song

Precious metals (Pt, Ir, Ru, and so on) and related compounds usually demonstrate superb catalytic activity for electrochemical hydrogen production. However, scarcity and stability are still challenges for hydrogen evolution reaction, even for single-atomic-site electrocatalysts. Herein, a fluorine (F) doping strategy is proposed to enhance the strong metal–support interaction between the F-doped Ni3N support and the loaded ruthenium (Ru) species. Via synergistically modulating both the Ru loading amount and F doping concentration, outstanding HER activity was achieved in Ru@F–Ni3N with an overpotential (η) of 115 mV at 100 mA cm–2, superior to the benchmark Pt/C (η = 201 mV). Density functional theory simulation in combination with X-ray photoelectron spectra and X-ray absorption spectroscopy characterizations convincingly demonstrate that, with the strongest electronegativity, F doping could effectively stabilize Ru atoms doped in the F–Ni3N substrate and simultaneously reduce the H bonding strength, which accelerated the desorption of H2. These findings provide a facile strategy to modulate both catalytic activities and stabilities of heteroatom-loaded catalytic materials.

Anchoring metal cobalt species on defective alumina for enhanced catalytic performance in F-T synthesis

Qiuyao Jiao,Yan Liu,Ran Yu,Lei Li

For supported heterogeneous catalyst, metal-support interaction (MSI) is very important factors for catalytic performance. Commercial γ-alumina was reduced with hydrogen in advance, providing strong anchoring sites for metal (metal oxide) species. This research demonstrates the use of pre-reduced alumina as catalyst carrier to anchor metal Co species in FTS compared with unreduced one. The defective alumina supported catalyst displayed a supeior performance. The Co/RAl2O3-550 catalyst showed surprisingly high CO conversion of 56.0%, C5+ hydrocarbons selectivity of 93.2%, and a low methane selectivity of 2.7% at a remarkable high activity (CTY = 1.1 × 10-5 molCO gCo-1 s−1). It revealed the strong reduction of alumina generated more defective sites, which was strongly anchored with metal cobalt species under MSI. Besides, the reduction of alumina also boosted the number of surface L-acidity, promoting the CO absorption rate through CO dissociation. These results reveal the unique property of defective Al2O3 supported cobalt catalysts, and provide a practical strategy to explore stable and efficient FTS catalysts.

Selective recognition and activation for accelerated decarboxylation and C–F bond cleavage of perfluorooctanoic acid

Ziwen An,Qihao Xie,Shaohan Xu,Baoling Niu,Lingzhi Sun,Jingui Zheng,Guohua Zhao

Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), a synthetic persistent and bio-accumulative chemical, has raised global concerns. PFOA oxidation by advanced oxidation technology (AOPs) begins with decarboxylation, followed by CF 2 groups unzipping cycle and C–F cleavage. Since reactive radicals (even •OH) cannot initiate decarboxylation and abundant low-toxicity organics hinders decarboxylation, presents significant challenges for defluorination. We designed a functionalized high-index (201) TiO 2 photoanode (S-TiO 2,201 ) capable of molecular recognition and activation, which switches PFOA adsorption from carboxyl groups to preferential adsorption via the perfluoroalkyl backbone. This adsorption configuration selectively recognizes PFOA and accelerates decarboxylation via direct hole oxidation. In situ electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) confirmed faster decarboxylation and •OH quantification showed hole utilization efficiency rising from 9.6 % to 39.3 % after functionalization. PFOA was selectively removed from 200 μg/L to 1.2 μg/L with 1000-fold humic acid interference. This work presents a strategy for efficient and selective PFOA removal by precisely modulating its adsorption configuration.

Characterisation of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. radicis-lycopersici in Infected Tomatoes in Inner Mongolia, China

Yongqing Yang,Yong Wang,Jing Gao,Zhidan Shi,Wenjin Chen,Haiyan Huangfu,Zhengnan Li,Yan Liu

Fusarium crown and root rot (FCRR), caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. radicis-lycopersici (FORL), is an economically important disease that affects tomatoes worldwide and has become more prevalent in China in recent years. In 2021 and 2022, tomato plants in greenhouses in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, were observed showing symptoms of stunting, premature loss of lower leaves, and root rot. Fungal pathogens were isolated from 20 infected tomato plants and identified based on morphological observation and DNA sequencing. Twelve isolates were consistently identified as Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. radicis - lycopersici (FORL) via an analysis of the ITS , TEF- 1α , and pgx4 genes. This is the first report of FORL in Inner Mongolia, China. The isolates were examined for their pathogenicity by inoculating them on tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, and chickpeas. The fungicide sensitivity of the isolates was determined. Effective concentrations for 50% growth inhibition (EC 50 ) were measured using seven fungicides. The EC 50 values of tebuconazole and prochloraz were <1.0 μg·mL −1 , exhibiting the most effective inhibition among the fungicides tested. Additionally, FORL resistance screening of tomato germplasms was performed. One tomato variety was resistant to FORL, and the remaining 43 germplasm lines showed various levels of resistance. The rates of highly susceptible, moderately susceptible, susceptible, and moderately resistant germplasms accounted for 29.55%, 22.73%, 40.91%, and 4.55% of the 44 germplasms tested, respectively.
