The meticulous design of the interaction between semiconductors and metals can significantly enhance the performance and stability of nano-luminescent materials, thereby expanding their broad application prospects. In this investigative endeavor, we have innovated a novel synthesis methodology that seamlessly integrates inorganic CsPbBr 3 perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) with gold nanoparticles (Au NPs). Photoluminescence analysis revealed that the emission intensity of the resultant Au-CsPbBr 3 hybrid NCs surpassed that of pristine CsPbBr 3 NCs. This enhancement was primarily ascribed to the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) exhibited by the Au NPs. Furthermore, the Au-CsPbBr 3 hybrid NCs demonstrated remarkable stability, maintaining their excellent fluorescence properties even after exposure to natural environmental conditions for an extended duration. This simple and effective method of fabricating Au-CsPbBr 3 hybrid NCs offers exciting new avenues for optimizing optical properties and expanding the use of perovskite NCs in light-emitting diodes as well as a range of other optoelectronic devices. CsPbBr 3 nanoplatelets (NPLs) have gained significant attention as promising blue-emitting materials due to their large exciton binding energy and narrow full width at half-maximum (FWHM) of emission spectra. However, the weak binding ability of ligands to the surface of pure blue-emitting CsPbBr 3 NPLs results in reduced optical properties and stability. Here, a ligand passivation strategy was developed for synthesizing monodisperse pure blue-emitting CsPbBr 3 NPLs with enhanced photoluminescence (PL) by incorporating phenylalanine (PHE) ligands during NPLs growth. Due to the simultaneous interaction of the amino and carboxyl groups of PHE with the lead halide octahedron formed, the growth of CsPbBr 3 NPLs in the vertical direction is inhibited, while the surface defects of the NPLs prepared are effectively passivated. As a result, combined with the post-treatment with oleamine bromide (OAmBr), the synthesized monodisperse CsPbBr 3 NPLs show an emission peak centered at 461 nm with a narrow FWHM of 16 nm and a PLQY value of 98%.

All inorganic metal halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have attracted much attention for their outstanding optoelectronic properties, which can be tuned by the composition, surface, size and morphology in nanoscale. Herein, we report the microfluidic synthesis of hollow CsPbBr 3 perovskite NCs through the nanoscale Kirkendall effect. The formation mechanism of the hollow structure (Kirkendall void) controlled by the temperature, flow rate, ratios of precursors and ligands was investigated. Compared with the solid CsPbBr 3 NCs of the same size, the hollow CsPbBr 3 NCs exhibit blue shifts in ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) absorption and photoluminescence (PL) spectra, and remarkably longer PL average lifetime (~ 98.2 ns). Quantum confinement effect, inner surface induced additional trap states and lattice strain of the hollow CsPbBr 3 NCs were discussed in understanding their unique optoelectronic properties. The hollow CsPbBr 3 NC based photodetector exhibits an outstanding negative photoconductivity (NPC) detectivity of 8.9 × 10 12 Jones. They also show potentials in perovskite NC based photovoltaic and light emitting diodes (LEDs).

Mn-doped perovskites have been extensively studied in optics, magnetism, and electronics due to their orange emission. However, successful Mn doping required a high Mn/Pb feed ratio. In this paper, Mn-doped CsPbBr3 nanoplatelets (NPLs) with bright orange emission were prepared by a two-step slow thermal injection synthesis. The slow injection of precursors effectively slow-down the crystal growth kinetic process and controls the growth of undoped CsPbBr3 NPLs. This process also significantly improves Mn doping efficiency. Mn doping induced the generation of numerous precursor clusters during the growth of CsPbBr3 NPLs, and the formation of these clusters was crucial for enhancing the doping efficiency. The maximum amount of Mn precursor in CsPb0.83Mn0.17Br3 was 50% of Pb precursors. The photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) of CsPb0.94Mn0.06Br3 NPLs reached up to 80.6%, which was 3.1 times of that of CsPbBr3 NPLs. The PL properties of Mn-doped CsPbBr3 NPLs were significantly enhanced compared with pure CsPbBr3 NPLs. The growth process and luminescence mechanism of Mn-doped CsPbBr3 NPLs were discussed. High PLQYs and efficient Mn doping supplied an ideal approach for the preparation of various CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, and I) NCs for commercial applications.

Using nanocrystals as “artificial atoms” to construct supercrystals is an interesting process to explore the stacking style of nanoscale building blocks and corresponding collective properties. Various types of semiconducting supercrystals have been constructed via the assembly of nanocrystals driven by the entropic, electrostatic, or van der Waals interactions. We report a new type of metal halide perovskite supercrystals via the gold-bromide complex triggered assembly of newly emerged attractive CsPbBr3 nanocubes. Through introducing gold-bromide (Au–Br) complexes into CsPbBr3 nanocubes suspension, the self-assembly process of CsPbBr3 nanocubes to form supercrystals was investigated with the different amount of Au–Br complexes added to the suspensions, which indicates that the driven force of the formation of CsPbBr3 supercrystals included the van der Waals interactions among carbon chains and electrostatic interactions between Au–Br complexes and surfactants. Accordingly, the optical properties change with the assembly of CsPbBr3 nanocubes and the variation of mesoscale structures of supercrystals with heating treatment was revealed as well, demonstrating the ionic characteristics of CsPbBr3 nanocrystals. The fabricated CsPbBr3 supercrystal presents a novel type of semiconducting supercrystals that will open an avenue for the assembly of ionic nanocrystals.

Wide-bandgap semitransparent perovskite photovoltaics are emerging as one of the ideal candidates for building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV). However, surface defects in inorganic CsPbBr3 perovskite prepared by vapor deposition severely limit the optoelectronic performance of perovskite solar cells. To address this issue, a strategy of doping a trace amount of KBr into perovskite by vapor deposition is adopted, effectively improving the quality of the film, reducing surface defect concentration, and enhancing the transportation and extraction of charge carriers. Simultaneously, fully physical vapor deposition technology is employed to fabricate perovskite solar cells with an average visible light transmittance of 44%. These devices exhibited an ultrahigh open-circuit voltage of 1.55 V and a superior power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 7.28%, demonstrating excellent moisture and heat resistance. Moreover, the corresponding 5 cm × 5 cm modules achieve a PCE of 5.35% with great thermal insulation capability. This work provides an approach for fabricating highly efficient all-inorganic perovskite solar cells with high average visible light transmittance, demonstrating new insights into their application in building-integrated photovoltaics.

Halide perovskites have attracted widespread attention in the fields of photovoltaics, LEDs, lasers, and photocatalysis due to their unique optoelectronic properties. Here, we proposed a method to synthesize CsPbBr 3 /TiO 2 composite material by embedding precursors into mesoporous titanium dioxide pores and inducing in-situ growth of the perovskites within the pores. Due to the encapsulation of mesoporous TiO 2 , CsPbBr 3 maintains its excellent luminescent characteristics in water, air, and at high temperatures. Furthermore, the Z-type heterojunction structure formed between mesoporous TiO 2 and internal CsPbBr 3 significantly enhances the photo-generated current, and the response time has increased by 1.7 times.

All-inorganic halide perovskites exhibit exceptional optical properties and are promising photoactive materials for optoelectronics. However, their stability remains a key challenge, exacerbated by a limited understanding of degradation mechanisms. Herein, in situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is used to investigate the effect of thickness on the structural stability of CsPbBr 3 nanobricks under electron beam irradiation. CsPbBr 3 nanobricks with different thicknesses have been prepared using a traditional hot-injection method, giving rise to a distinctive cubic structure. A modulated structure, caused by bromine vacancy ordering, has been observed in the thin nanobricks. The degradation behaviors of nanobricks are related to thickness-dependent bromine vacancy formation in the CsPbBr 3 lattice. More bromine vacancies exist in thin nanobricks than thick ones, resulting in a greater number of undercoordinated Pb atoms which accelerate irradiation-induced degradation. Decomposition products include Pb nanoparticles, which also demonstrate thickness-dependent characteristics. TEM images of Pb nanoparticles formed from thin nanobricks show evidence of irradiation-induced amorphization. In thicker nanobricks, Pb nanoparticle size increases with the duration of electron beam irradiation, while the remaining Cs atoms bond with Br atoms to form relatively stable CsBr nanoparticles. These results contribute to understanding of degradation mechanisms in cesium lead halide perovskites under electron beam irradiation.

Hydrochromic materials have received much attention in anticounterfeiting due to their reversible photoemission properties toward water. However, existing hydrochromic materials usually suffer from slow hydrochromic response and limited stability, repeatability, and color tunability. This paper found for the first time that CsPbBr 3 /Cs 4 PbBr 6 composites with quantum-limited domain effects had reversible hydrochromism. CsPbBr 3 /Cs 4 PbBr 6 composites were successfully synthesized in molecular sieve MCM-41 using an improved mechanochemical method. The composites underwent a reversible phase transition from Cs 4 PbBr 6 /CsPbBr 3 to CsPbBr 3 upon treatment with a trace amount of water, the photoluminescence colors underwent a change from blue to green, and reversion occurred due to heating. Mechanistic investigation revealed that quantum dots underwent soft agglomeration due to van der Waals forces in polar solvent environments, affecting the action of quantum domain-limiting effects. Therefore, organic solvents with different polarities can cause different degrees of reversible discoloration of the material. This study provides new ideas for understanding the phase transition and agglomeration of metal halide perovskite quantum dots in polar solvent environments. Additionally, it offered new options for aqueous color-changing materials and organic solvent polar detection materials.

Shelling with chalcogenides on the surface of lead halide perovskite (LHP) nanocrystals (NCs) is believed to be an effective approach to increase their stability under high-moisture/aqueous conditions, which is important for LHP NC-based optoelectronic devices. However, it is still a challenge to prepare high-quality LHP/chalcogenide core/shell NCs with moisture/aqueous stability. In this work, a surface-defect-induced strategy is carried out to facilitate the adsorption of Br– ions and subsequently Zn2+ ions to preform a bipolar surface, which reduces the energy barrier at the CsPbBr3/ZnS interface and promotes the epitaxial growth of the ZnS shell layer. The aqueous stability of the as-received NCs shows an increase of over 12 times compared to that of the original one. Likewise, Mn2+ ions are introduced to further reduce the geometric symmetry mismatch and defect density at the CsPbBr3/ZnS interface. Interestingly, aqueous stability characterizations illustrate negligible degradation even after 230 min of ultrasonication, suggesting their outstanding stability. This work proposes an effective approach to prepare high-quality LHP/chalcogenide core/shell NCs, which possess great potential in the fabrication of stable optoelectronic devices.

All-inorganic CsPbX 3 (X = Cl, Br, I) quantum dots (QDs) exhibit exceptional optical properties, narrow full-width-at-half-maximum (FWHM) fluorescence emissions, and straightforward synthesis, rendering them great potential for applications in display, solid-state lighting, and related fields. However, their practical utilization was significantly hindered by rapid degradation and luminescence quenching. A robust strategy to enhance stability involves encapsulating QDs within a glass matrix via in situ crystallization. Concurrently, rare earth (RE) doping has emerged as an effective approach to optimize the optical performance of CsPbBr 3 perovskite QD-embedded glasses. Investigating the crystallization behavior of RE-doped CsPbBr 3 borosilicate glasses is crucial for advancing the development of high-performance RE-doped perovskite glass materials. Building upon this foundation, Tm 2 O 3 -doped CsPbBr 3 QD glass-ceramics with varying dopant concentrations were successfully fabricated. The incorporation of Tm 3+ ions modulated QD dimensions and bandgap structures, suppressed VBr defects, and potentially established energy transfer pathways, effectively enhancing the optical performance of the QDs. Compared with undoped counterparts, the optimized sample demonstrated a 118.83% enhancement in photoluminescence (PL) intensity, a photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) increased from 20.6% to 37.76%, and an extended fluorescence lifetime from 198.83 ns to 225.06 ns. Furthermore, encapsulation within the borosilicate glass matrix significantly improved the temporal stability, aqueous stability, thermal stability, and photostability of CsPbBr 3 QDs. These superior properties position Tm 3+ -doped CsPbBr 3 QDs@glass composites as ideal candidates for high-performance lighting, wide-color-gamut displays, and fingerprint recognition technologies.

Metal halide perovskites have emerged as promising functional materials for high-performance photodetectors owing to their exceptional properties, including high-absorption coefficient, low-exciton binding energy, and near-unity photoluminescence quantum yields. However, their practical applications in photodetection remain constrained by intrinsic carrier recombination losses. Herein, we report the rational design of type-II CsPbBr3/ZnS heterostructured nanocrystals (NCs) through interfacial band engineering to address this challenge. Advanced characterization combining transmission electron microscopy, ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy, and density functional theory calculations confirms the formation of a staggered band alignment at the heterointerface. This unique electronic structure facilitates fast charge separation and inhibits carrier recombination compared to pristine CsPbBr3 NCs. Benefiting from the advantages of CsPbBr3/ZnS heterostructured NCs, we demonstrate a self-powered photodetector with excellent detection capability under 365 nm illumination: photosensitivity of 1.38 × 104, responsivity of 37.5 mA/W, and specific detectivity of 1.21 × 1012 Jones at zero bias. The interfacial engineering strategy presented in this work establishes a universal approach for developing high-efficiency perovskite optoelectronics with tailored charge transport dynamics.
