This study successfully synthesized a series of 15Ce–xTi/CG catalysts with different TiO2 loading levels by integrating hydrothermal synthesis, impregnation techniques, and subsequent microwave sintering. To comprehensively evaluate the catalytic activity, microstructure, surface properties, and reaction mechanisms of the catalysts, a range of advanced techniques was employed, including NH3-SCR testing, XRD, XPS, SEM, BET, NH3-TPD, H2-TPR, and in situ DRIFTs. The experimental findings revealed that the incorporation of TiO2 significantly enhanced both the structural integrity and functional performance of the catalysts. Specifically, TiO2 facilitated stronger interactions between Ce and Ti, increased the Ce3+/(Ce3+ + Ce4+) ratio, enriched the surface acidic sites, and boosted the concentration of chemically adsorbed oxygen species. Among all the catalysts, 15Ce–6Ti/CG demonstrated superior NO conversion efficiency (exceeding 92% at 300 °C) and maintained high activity across an extensive temperature range of 250–400 °C, while exhibiting remarkable resistance to SO2 and H2O poisoning. In situ DRIFTs experiments further corroborated the coexistence of both Eley–Rideal and Langmuir–Hinshelwood mechanisms, indicating that the catalytic process can proceed via multiple pathways. These results highlight the synergistic effects between Ce and Ti species, as well as the structural advantages of coal gangue as a sustainable support material, providing critical insights for the development of high-performance, environmentally friendly NH3-SCR catalysts.

Room-temperature ammonia (NH 3 ) detection is crucial for environmental safety and human health. In this study, a ternary PANI@Au-TiO 2 ammonia-sensitive composite was synthesized via in situ polymerization of polyaniline (PANI) with simultaneous reduction of chloroauric acid to form Au nanoparticles, followed by ultrasonic compounding with TiO 2 nanoparticles. The structural and morphological characterization confirmed the uniform distribution of Au and TiO 2 nanoparticles in the PANI matrix. Gas sensing experiments demonstrated that the PANI@Au-TiO 2 sensor exhibited markedly enhanced NH 3 response, achieving a high sensitivity of 0.0527/ppm compared to PANI, PANI@Au, and PANI-TiO 2 counterparts. Moreover, the PANI@Au-TiO 2 ternary composite sensor displayed excellent linearity within the NH 3 concentration range of 3–30 ppm, along with a low detection limit, good repeatability, and high selectivity toward ammonia. The enhanced performance is attributed to the synergistic effects of the p–n heterojunction, Schottky junction, and catalytic activity of Au nanoparticles, which facilitate efficient charge transfer and amplify the interaction with NH 3 molecules. These findings demonstrate that the hybrid sensing film based on PANI@Au-TiO 2 ternary composites exhibits excellent ammonia detection performance at room temperature, thereby offering a promising pathway for the development of advanced ammonia sensors.

Hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) was used as a CuOX/TiO2 catalyst carrier and its effect on NO reduction with NH3 was studied. After hBN was treated with concentrated HNO3, CuOX/TiO2 nanoparticles were dispersed well onto hBN, and the addition of hBN was found to promote NO oxidation, while at the same time suppress NH3 oxidation to NO, and thus promoted the selective catalytic reduction of NO at reaction temperatures between 150 to 350 °C, and a high de-NOX efficiency of 90.6% was achieved at 275 °C. Our study indicates that hBN is a promising catalyst promoter and carrier with excellent stability compared to carbonaceous materials.

HPW/Fe 2 O 3 nanorod catalyst displays excellent NH 3 -SCR performance over a broad working window. • HPW/Fe 2 O 3 exhibits higher SO 2 and H 2 O resistance compared with bare Fe 2 O 3 nanorods. • The modification of Fe 2 O 3 with HPW enriches the surface reactive oxygen species and acid sites of catalyst. • The NH 3 -SCR reaction on HPW/Fe 2 O 3 obeys the L-H and E-R routes simultaneously. Exploiting denitration catalysts that integrate exceptional low-and-medium temperature catalytic activity with superior SO 2 and H 2 O tolerance remains a core bottleneck for practical NO x abatement in industrial flue gas treatment. Here, a novel HPW/Fe 2 O 3 nanorod catalyst with highly exposed (110) facet modified by phosphotungstic acid was successfully synthesized. Compared with pure Fe 2 O 3 nanorods, the HPW/Fe 2 O 3 catalyst with a 15% phosphotungstic acid loading exhibited the most outstanding catalytic performance, delivering nearly 100% NO x conversion and N 2 selectivity within the temperature window of 250–425 °C. The characterization results revealed that the interaction between HPW and Fe 2 O 3 generated more oxygen vacancies, which significantly enhanced the low-temperature NO x conversion of HPW/Fe 2 O 3 . Meanwhile, the abundant moderately strong acid sites inhibited the over-oxidation of NH 3 at high temperatures, thereby improving the high-temperature NO x conversion of HPW/Fe 2 O 3 . The introduction of HPW significantly suppressed SO 2 adsorption on the HPW/Fe 2 O 3 surface, endowing the catalyst with favorable tolerance toward the coexistence of H 2 O and SO 2 at 250 °C. Time-resolved in-situ transient measurements and kinetic analyses disclosed that the adsorbed NH 3 species on the HPW/Fe 2 O 3 surface were capable of reducing gaseous/adsorbed NO x simultaneously, following both the Eley-Rideal ( E -R) and Langmuir-Hinshelwood (L-H) routes. The phosphotungstic acid-modified HPW/Fe 2 O 3 catalyst is endowed with abundant active oxygen species and moderately strong acid sites, which greatly facilitates the NH 3 -SCR reaction proceeding via both the Eley-Rideal ( E -R) and Langmuir-Hinshelwood (L-H) pathways. Real-time, in situ monitoring of plant physiological parameters and industrial toxic gas emissions is vital for advancing precision agriculture and ensuring environmental safety. Herein, we developed an electroactive biodegradable microneedle (PPG-MN) sensor enabling minimally invasive monitoring of interstitial glucose, ambient temperature, humidity, and environmental ammonia (NH 3 ) gas leakage. The sensor matrix was fabricated using a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) network interpenetrated with conductive polyaniline (PANI) and doped with phytic acid (PA), while glucose oxidase (GOx) was immobilized for specificity. The resulting microneedle array exhibited sufficient mechanical strength to penetrate the plant epidermis, establishing a stable electrode–tissue interface via hydrogel swelling. The sensor demonstrated excellent environmental friendliness, featuring a pathogen inhibition rate exceeding 97% and complete soil biodegradation within 35 days. By integrating enzymatic sensing with a temperature and humidity compensation mechanism (effective across 25–50 °C and 25%–50% relative humidity (RH)), the PPG-MN achieved a rapid response time (< 30 s) and a wide linear detection range (1–100 mM). Furthermore, continuous in situ monitoring of Epipremnum aureum leaves over 14 h successfully tracked dynamic glucose fluctuations driven by photosynthesis and respiration. Additionally, leveraging the reversible doping/de-doping mechanism of the PA-doped PANI network, the hydrogel base acts as a highly sensitive chemiresistive gas sensor. The PPG-MN exhibited a strong linear response (R ² = 0.986) to NH 3 across a broad concentration range of 10 to 500 ppm, effectively encompassing the typical toxic emission levels encountered during leather deliming processes. These results indicate that the PPG-MN sensor is a promising, eco-friendly tool for both agricultural Internet of Things (IoT) systems and hazardous gas pre-warning in industries like leather processing. Ammonia-driven protonic ceramic fuel cells (NH 3 -PCFCs) represent a paradigm shift toward carbon–neutral energy conversion, offering high efficiency and moderate operating temperatures. However, their practical viability is currently impeded by the sluggish kinetics of ammonia decomposition and the severe nitridation of conventional Ni-based anode. Herein, a rationally engineered bimetallic NiRu/Y 2 O 3 is reported as anode catalyst layer (ACL) designed to overcome these dual challenges. Through a synergistic combination of combustion synthesis and incipient wetness impregnation, the 30Ni0.5Ru/Y 2 O 3 catalyst is optimized to deliver exceptional NH 3 conversion of 81.77% and 95.83% at 500 and 550 °C, respectively, under a high gas hourly space velocity of 30,000 mL g cat -1 h −1 . Mechanistic investigations reveal that this enhanced activity stems from Ru-promoted hydrogen spillover coupled with increased surface basicity; this synergy weakens N-metal binding energy and facilitates rapid H 2 desorption. When integrated into NH 3 -PCFCs, the optimized ACL enables a remarkable peak power density of 621.11 mW cm −2 at 650 °C. Furthermore, the pre-decomposition of NH 3 by the ACL significantly mitigates Ni nitridation, reducing the cell degradation rate from 41.01% to merely 18.24% over 50 h of operation at 600 °C. This work not only presents a cost-effective, high-performance catalyst for ammonia decomposition but also validates a robust strategy for realizing durable and efficient NH 3 -PCFCs.

Low-temperature sintering flue gas contains both nitrogen oxides (NOx) and carbon monoxide (CO), requiring bifunctional catalysts for concurrent pollutant abatement. Herein, CuSmTi composite oxides with an identical nominal composition were synthesized via impregnation, mechanical grinding, and sol–gel methods to examine the effects of preparation route on their structure, surface properties, and catalytic performance in coupled NH3-SCR and CO oxidation. CuSmTi-SG exhibited the best performance, achieving >40% NOxconversion at 125 °C, complete NOxand CO conversion at 200 °C, and nearly 100% N2selectivity over 100–300 °C, with stable performance over 24 h. It possessed a higher surface area (131.4 m2g−1), pore volume (0.230 cm3g−1), and smaller TiO2crystallite size (8.5 nm) than the other catalysts. Spectroscopic analyses showed that sol–gel synthesis altered the surface electronic states of Cu and Sm species, resulting in a higher Cu+fraction and greater amounts of medium-to-strong Lewis acid sites and labile surface oxygen species. In situ DRIFTS indicated that CO oxidation proceeded predominantly via a Mars–van Krevelen mechanism over Cu+sites, whereas NH3-SCR mainly followed an Eley–Rideal pathway. CO and NH3preferentially interacted with different surface sites, resulting in limited mutual inhibition. These results demonstrate that the preparation route can modify the structure and surface chemistry of CuSmTi catalysts without changing their nominal composition, thereby affecting their performance in low-temperature NOxand CO abatement.

Nitrogen dopant has been shown to significantly enhance the photocatalytic performance of CeO 2 , while most current nitrogen doping preparation methods were directly derived from CeO 2 . In this work, we offer a novel and advanced approach to prepare nitrogen-rich doped ceria with excellent photocatalytic performances by a thermal decomposition of CeCO 3 OH in an NH 3 contained atmosphere. It was found that the prepared CeCO 3 OH-NH 3 sample had the highest nitrogen doping content and oxygen vacancy concentration. During the breaking of chemical bonds in CeCO 3 OH and the formation of new bonds in ceria promoted the incorporation of nitrogen dopants, both on the surface and in the bulk, and the NH 3 -containing atmosphere boosted the nitrogen doping in the ceria lattice. Moreover, CeCO 3 OH-NH 3 also exhibited a higher TC (tetracycline) photodegradation ratio (68.35%) and a higher hydrogen production rate (45.74 μmol·h -1 ·g -1 ) via hydrolysis. Radical trapping experiments confirmed that photogenerated h + and e - played key roles in TC degradation, and the possible mechanism of the photocatalytic performance enhancement in nitrogen-doped ceria was discussed. The developed nitrogen doping method for CeO 2 and the findings of this work may further benefit the high-performance ceria-based catalysts design and offer a new understanding of the nitrogen doped ceria.

The CeO2ordinary amorphous, nanopolyhedrons, nanorods, and nanocubes were prefabricated by the hydrothermal method, and employed as carriers of Fe/W–CeO2catalysts to selectively catalyze the reduction of NO with ammonia. Characterization results indicated that the morphology of CeO2support originated from selectively exposing different crystal surfaces, which has a significant effect on oxygen vacancies, acid sites and the dispersion of Fe2O3. The CeO2nanopolyhedrons catalyst (Fe/W–CeO2–P) showed most oxygen vacancies, the largest the quantity of acid sites, the largest BET (Brunauer-Emmett-Teller) surface area and the best dispersion of Fe2O3, which was associated with predominately exposing CeO2(111) planes. Consequently, the Fe/W–CeO2–P catalyst has the highest NO conversion rate in the temperature range of 100–325 °C among the ordinary amorphous, nanorods, and nanocubes Fe/W–CeO2catalysts.Keywords:morphology;Fe/W–CeO2;nanopolyhedra;CeO2(111) planes

A series of y Cu/Ti x Sn 1-x O 2 catalysts for selective catalytic oxidation (NH 3 -SCO) were synthesized using Ti x Sn 1-x O 2 as catalyst support and CuO as active species. Compared with pure TiO 2 support, the strong metal-support interaction between Cu active species and Ti x Sn 1-x O 2 was significantly promoted by the Sn-doping, thereby improving the catalytic activity and N 2 selectivity of the catalyst, which meets the demand of diesel vehicles to completely convert NH 3 . The results of XRD and HRTEM showed that the particle size of 20 Cu/TiSnO 2 sample is much more highly dispersed. The results of NH 3 -TPD and in-situ DRIFTS indicated that the copper species in 20 Cu/Ti x Sn 1-x O 2 can provide more Lewis acid sites than 20 Cu/TiO 2 , which is conducive to the adsorption and reaction of NH 3 . Meanwhile, XPS results proved that adsorbed oxygen on the catalyst surface is the main active oxygen species. Finally, in-situ DRIFTs and kinetic measurements found that the NH 3 -SCO reaction over 20 Cu/TiSnO 2 and 20 Cu/TiO 2 follow the i-SCR and imide (–NH) mechanisms, respectively. This catalyst will provide solutions for the future design and application of ammonia slip from mobile and stationary sources.

A coprecipitation approach was used to prepare vanadium–molybdenum composite oxide catalysts, which were then calcined at 300, 400, 500, 600, and 700 °C. The vanadium–molybdenum catalyst, under calcination at 500 °C, possesses abundant surface defects and acid species. As a result, it showed an outstanding active window, achieving over 90% NOx conversion efficiency within the temperature range of 220–340 °C. Compared with other catalysts, the vanadium–molybdenum catalyst with the calcination at 500 °C resulted in the formation of polymeric vanadate with the most active oxygen, which was conducive to the high catalytic efficiency for the NH3-SCR reaction. Based on our in-depth understanding gained from in situ DRIFTS experiments, we proposed that the NH3-SCR reaction occurred on the vanadium–molybdenum catalyst via an Eley–Rideal pathway. This mechanism involves the initial adsorption of ammonia on the catalytic surface, followed by its interaction with weakly adsorbed or gaseous NO to form an activated complex. Furthermore, the presence of molecular oxygen (O2) serves to augment the adsorption and activation of nitric oxide over the catalytic surface. The augmentation arises from the generation of adsorbed NO2 species or nitrates, which possess pronounced oxidizing capabilities. Notably, the significant impact of NH3 and NO in the denitration reaction was elucidated, providing valuable insights that can guide the adjustment and optimization of practical operational conditions. This understanding is crucial for enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the denitration process, thereby contributing to improved environmental qualities.

High N 2 O selectivity of MnO x -TiO 2 catalyst hinders its development in ammonia selective catalytic reduction (NH 3 -SCR) of NO x . Herein, a series of MnO x -TiO 2 catalyst with different Mn/Ti ratio were prepared by wet-impregnation method to study the N 2 O formation during ammonia selective catalytic reduction (NH 3 -SCR) of NO x from the perspective of catalyst. It is found that MnO x and TiO 2 species are the mainly redox and acid sites for the NH 3 -SCR denitration reaction over MnO x -TiO 2 catalyst, respectively. As the Mn/Ti ratio increases, MnO x species layer expanded on TiO 2 support, leading to increase of redox sites but decrease of surface acid sites. These changes contribute to the occurrence of the no-selective oxidation of NH 3 on MnO x species and the over-activation of NH 3 at Mn-Ti interface, resulting in the formation of N 2 O via the route of 2NH 3 + 2O 2 → N 2 O + 3H 2 O and 4NO + 4NH 3 + 3O 2 → 4N 2 O + 6H 2 O, respectively. Through this work, it can be speculated that both improving MnO x dispersion and increasing surface acidity of catalyst are feasible strategy for suppressing the N 2 O formation on MnO x -TiO 2 .
