Nitric oxide (NO) has shown positive effects in tumor treatment. However, controlling NO release in specific targets is still a crucial challenge for antitumor therapy. Considering that sodium nitroprusside (SNP) and potassium ferricyanide have similar chemical structures , a near infrared (NIR) laser-controlled NO release nanoplatform has been fabricated by allowing SNP to participate in mesoporous Prussian blue (m-PB) nanoparticle formation. The resulting SNP-doped m-PB (m-PB-NO) exhibited a good NIR-controlled NO release behavior, and the amount of NO released can be controlled by adjusting the laser intensity and irradiation time. Given that m-PB-NO still has strong absorption in NIR region , it exhibited an excellent photothermal effect in vitro and in vivo. After carrying antitumor drug, docetaxel (DTX)-loaded m-PB-NO ( [email protected] ) can simultaneously achieve NIR-controlled NO release, good photothermotherapy, and chemotherapy. The combination therapy of [email protected] showed a significant synergistic effect compared with each monotherapy and can significantly improve the therapeutic effect. Combination therapy also significantly inhibited the lung metastasis of 4T1 breast cancer cells in tumor-bearing mice by ablating primary tumors.

The CeO 2 -TiO 2 (CeTi) and CeO 2 /WO 3 -TiO 2 (CeWTi) catalysts were prepared by a sol-gel precipitation method and their NH 3 -NO/NO 2 selective catalytic reduction (SCR) performance was studied. N 2 O formation and effect of oxygen concentration on SCR performance over CeWTi catalyst were also investigated while varying the NO 2 /NO x ratio. Results indicate that fast SCR behavior of CeWTi catalyst has the best NH 3 -NO/NO 2 SCR performance due to the catalyst reoxidation rate by NO 2 higher than by O 2 . Compared with CeTi catalyst, CeWTi catalyst exhibits higher de-NO x performance under NH 3 -NO/NO 2 SCR conditions. As the CeTi and CeWTi catalysts exhibit similar redox property, addition of WO 3 provides more acid sites which accelerate the reaction between NH 4 NO 3 and NO to get a superior low-temperature activity. Amount of N 2 O formation shows a peak at 250 °C mainly derived from NH 4 NO 3 decomposition.

CeO-CuO catalysts were prepared by citric acid method at different calcination temperatures. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of calcination temperature on the catalytic activity of CeO 2 -CuO catalyst for the selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH 3 . As can be seen from the results, Ce-Cu(450) is of the best low temperature selective catalytic reduction (SCR) activity among the three catalysts, which may be resulted from its large surface area, good redox ability, strong NH 3 adsorption capacity, and high concentration of Cu 2+ and active oxygen species on the surface. © 2013 American Institute of Chemical Engineers Environ Prog, 33: 385–389, 2014

In this paper, Pt supports on carbon black powder (Vulcan XC-72) were synthesized via a hydrothermal method for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with H 2 in the presence of 2 vol% O 2 over a wide temperature of 20–300 °C. The results showed that the 3 and 5 wt% Pt/C catalysts resulted in high NO conversion (>90 %) over a temperature range of 120 to 300 °C, and the maximum NO conversion of 98.6 % was achieved over 5 wt% Pt/C at 120 °C. Meanwhile, the influence of SO 2 and H 2 O on the catalyst performance of 3 wt% Pt/C was investigated. The catalysts exhibited good SO 2 poisoning resistance when the SO 2 concentration was lower than 260 ppm. Moreover, a positive effect on NO conversion was detected with the addition of 3 and 5 vol% H 2 O in the feed gas stream.

Modulating the physicochemical properties of catalysts through the construction of special crystal structures or microscopic morphology provides new insights for developing high-performance low-temperature denitrification catalysts. This paper explores the effect of morphology structure on catalyst performance and identifies the dominant driving factors. The catalyst activity sequence was found to be MnO x spiny nanospheres (Mn-SNS) > MnO x nanowires (Mn-N) > MnO x nanospheres (Mn-NS) > MnO x nanoparticles (Mn-P). Among these, the Mn-SNS catalyst prepared by the hydrothermal method exhibited the best catalytic activity and the good resistance to water and sulfur. It achieved over 70% NO x conversion at 150 °C, and maintained 100% at 200–350 °C. In the presence of SO 2 and H 2 O, the NO x conversion was maintained at 87%. The spherical structure consisting of nanospikes provides the Mn-SNS catalysts with a large specific surface area, more (Mn 4+ +Mn 3+ ), abundant acid sites, and stronger reducibility, thus exhibiting excellent performance through the "fast-SCR" pathway. It also inhibits oxide crystallization and provides more sites for the adsorption activation of NO x and NH 3 . The nanowire structures can provide a large specific surface area and a high concentration of Mn 3+ and Mn 4+ for MnO x catalyst. Characterization analyses revealed that the specific surface area, the ratio of (Mn 4+ +Mn 3+ )/Mn, and the number of Lewis acid sites (L-NH 3 ) are the most important factors affecting the catalytic activity. This present empirical analysis provides new ideas for designing high-performance catalysts with a large specific surface area.

Diabetic wounds present multiple functional impairments, including neurovascular dysregulation, oxidative imbalance, and immune dysfunction, making wound healing particularly challenging, while traditional therapeutical strategies fail to address these complex issues effectively. Herein, we propose a strategy utilizing dual-layer microneedles to deliver therapeutic gases by modulating neurovascular coupling and immune functions for diabetic wound treatment. The microneedle can respond to reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the diabetic microenvironment and subsequently generate oxygen (O 2 ) and nitric oxide (NO). These gases comprehensively promote neuro-vascular regeneration, reduce oxidative stress levels, and attenuate inflammation. In vivo studies demonstrate that the microneedle can accelerate diabetic wound healing by modulating neurovascular regeneration and inflammatory processes. Transcriptomic analyses further validate the involvement of related advantageous signaling pathways. The potential mechanism involves the activation of the PI3K-AKT-mTOR pathway to facilitate autophagy, ultimately accelerating the healing process. Thus, our multifunctional dual-layer microneedles provide an effective strategy for treating diabetic wounds.

The lack of compactness in heterojunction interfaces and poor charge separation is a great challenge in developing high-efficiency heterojunction photocatalysts . Herein, a novel Bi 4 Ti 3 O 12 -BiPO 4 heterojunction was successfully prepared for the first time by epitaxial growth of BiPO 4 on the surface of Bi 4 Ti 3 O 12 nanosheets . The optimized Bi 4 Ti 3 O 12 -BiPO 4 -0.5 increased the NO oxidation efficiency to 73.05%, surpassing pure Bi 4 Ti 3 O 12 (63.45%) and BiPO 4 (8.35%). Experiments and theoretical calculations indicated that the closely contacted heterointerface between BTO and BPO promoted the generation of the built-in electric field, which led to the formation of the Z- scheme transfer pathway for the photogenerated carriers . Therefore, the separation of photogenerated carriers was facilitated while retaining high redox potential , generating more ·O 2 – and ·OH to participate in NO oxidation. Furthermore, the adsorption of NO and O 2 was enhanced by introducing BiPO 4 , further improving the photocatalytic NO oxidation performance. This work emphasizes the critical role of heterointerface in accelerating charge transfer, providing a basis for the design and construction of tightly contacted heterojunction photocatalysts .

Introduction As an effective alternative choice to traditional mono-therapy, multifunctional nanoplatforms hold great promise for cancer therapy. Based on the strategies of Fenton-like reactions and reactive oxygen species (ROS)-mediated therapy, black phosphorus (BP) nanoplatform BP@Cu2O@L-Arg (BCL) co-assembly of cuprous oxide (Cu2O) and L-Arginine (L-Arg) nanoparticles was developed and evaluated for synergistic cascade breast cancer therapy. Methods Cu2O particles were generated in situ on the surface of the BP nanosheets, followed by L-Arg incorporation through electrostatic interactions. In vitro ROS/nitric oxide (NO) generation and glutathione (GSH) depletion were evaluated. In vitro and in vivo anti-cancer activity were also assessed. Finally, immune response of BCL under ultrasound was investigated. Results Cu2O was incorporated into BP to exhaust the overexpressed intracellular GSH in cancer cells via the Fenton reaction, thereby decreasing ROS consumption. Apart from being used as biocompatible carriers, BP nanoparticles served as sonosensitizers to produce excessive ROS under ultrasound irradiation. The enhanced ROS accumulation accelerated the oxidation of L-Arg, which further promoted NO generation for gas therapy. In vitro experiments revealed the outstanding therapeutic killing effects of BCL under ultrasound via mechanisms involving GSH deletion and excessive ROS and NO generation. In vivo studies have illustrated that the nanocomplex modified the immune response by promoting macrophage and CD8+ cell infiltration and inhibiting MDSC infiltration.Discussion BCL nanoparticles exhibited multifunctional characteristics for GSH depletion-induced ROS/NO generation, making a new multitherapy strategy for cascade breast cancer therapy.

Postoperative tumor recurrence remains a predominant cause of treatment failure. In this study, we developed an in situ injectable hydrogel, termed MPB-NO@DOX + ATRA gel, which was locally formed within the tumor resection cavity. The MPB-NO@DOX + ATRA gel was fabricated by mixing a thrombin solution, a fibrinogen solution containing all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA), and a Mn/NO-based immune nano-activator termed MPB-NO@DOX. ATRA promoted the differentiation of cancer stem cells, inhibited cancer cell migration, and affected the polarization of tumor-associated macrophages. The outer MnO 2 shell disintegrated due to its reaction with glutathione and hydrogen peroxide in the cytoplasm to release Mn 2+ and produce O 2 , resulting in the release of doxorubicin (DOX). The released DOX entered the nucleus and destroyed DNA, and the fragmented DNA cooperated with Mn 2+ to activate the cGAS-STING pathway and stimulate an anti-tumor immune response. In addition, when MPB-NO@DOX was exposed to 808 nm laser irradiation, the Fe-NO bond was broken to release NO, which downregulated the expression of PD-L1 on the surface of tumor cells and reversed the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. In conclusion, the MPB-NO@DOX + ATRA gel exhibited excellent anti-tumor efficacy. The results of this study demonstrated the great potential of in situ injectable hydrogels in preventing postoperative tumor recurrence.

In the calcium looping CO 2 capture process, using CO in the flue gas to reduce NO at a high molar ratio of CO to NO (e.g., above 10:1) can achieve efficient removal of NO. However, the lots of unreacted CO causes secondary pollution. In this study, a novel Cu/Ce co-modified CaO was proposed for cyclic CO 2 capture and the catalytic NO reduction at a low CO:NO molar ratio (e.g., 2:1). The experimental findings indicate that Cu/Ce modification improves the performance of CaO in both catalytic NO reduction and carbonation. The Cu/Ce co-modified CaO contained the optimal Cu/Ce/Ca molar ratio of 1:5:100 possesses both NO removal and CO conversion efficiencies of above 99 %, along with CO 2 removal efficiency exceeding 88%. Microscopic analysis determines that the electron transfer between Cu and Ce facilitates the conversion of lattice oxygen into surface oxygen, mitigating the competition between CO 2 and CO for surface oxygen. Furthermore, density functional theory calculations demonstrate that CO/NO/CO 2 exhibits non-competitive adsorption behavior on Cu/Ce co-modified CaO. Consequently, Cu/Ce-modified CaO possesses superior catalysis for efficient NO reduction by CO at low CO:NO molar ratio in calcium looping process.

Magnesium and its alloys are undoubtedly ideal candidates for manufacturing new bioabsorbable vascular stents thanks to their good bio-absorbability and better mechanical characteristics. However, the bottlenecks that restrict their clinical application, such as fast corrosion in vivo , poor hemocompatibility, and inferior surface endothelial regeneration ability, have not been resolved fundamentally. In this study, a polydopamine (PDA) intermediate layer covalently linked with acrylamide was first constructed on the alkali-heat-treated magnesium alloys, followed by in-situ polymerizing methacryloyloxyethyl sulfonyl betaine (SBMA) and acrylamide (AAM) to fabricate a hydrogel coating on the surface by ultraviolet (UV) polymerization. Finally, bivalirudin and selenocystamine were sequentially grafted onto the hydrogel coating surface to construct a multifunctional bioactive corrosion-resistant coating with excellent antifouling, anticoagulant performance, and catalytic liberation of NO (nitric oxide) to facilitate endothelial cell (EC) growth. The outcomes verified that the bioactive coating could not only significantly resist corrosion of magnesium alloys, but also had excellent hydrophilicity and the ability to selectively promote albumin adsorption, which could prevent platelet adhesion and activation and significantly diminish the hemolysis occurrence, thereby considerably facilitating its anticoagulant properties. At the same time, due to the hydrophilicity and extracellular matrix-like characteristics of the hydrogel coating, the coating could promote EC growth and upregulate the secretion of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and NO of endothelial cells (ECs). In the case of catalytic NO-liberation, the catalytic release of NO could further significantly improve blood compatibility, EC growth, and functional expressions of ECs. Therefore, the method in this study provides an effective strategy to fabricate the bioactive hydrogel coating that can simultaneously resist corrosion and enhance the biocompatibility of magnesium-based alloys, thereby effectively promoting research and application of magnesium alloy in intravascular stents.

Alkali metals can control the redox potential of a reaction system as well as modify the surface electronic structure and improve the stability of a catalyst. Herein, we doped an alkali metal into a cerium manganese-based three-dimensional ordered macroporous (3DOM) catalyst for NO oxidation and soot combustion; the doping was achieved using a self-sacrificing polymethyl methacrylate template and an excess impregnation method. The introduction of alkali metals can provide a rough pore surface, which increases the contact area between the catalyst and the reactant gas. Meanwhile, alkali metal doping can promote the formation of more oxygen vacancies and unsaturated structures and increase the catalytic activity for NO oxidation and soot combustion. 5% K-doped CM-5K achieved an NO conversion rate of 81.9% at 250 °C and of nearly 100% at 320 °C. CM-5K also demonstrated remarkable stability in cycling stability tests for NO oxidation and soot combustion. This work provides a promising catalyst candidate for NO oxidation and soot combustion in practical application.
