5-Hydroxymethylfurfural electrooxidation reaction (HMFOR) provides a promising route for producing high-value-added compounds. It is generally believed that NiOOH is the active species in HMFOR process, but its inherently poor electron transfer ability leads to limited catalytic activity. In this work, a W doping strategy is adopted to regulate the electron transfer between NiOOH and reaction molecules. Electrochemical results show that W-doped Ni 5 P 4 -R exhibits excellent electrochemical performance for the oxidation of HMF to FDCA with the conversion of HMF and yield of FDCA both close to ∼100%. Density functional theory and in-situ characterization reveal that the introduction of W causes the distortion of NiOOH lattice, resulting in the Jahn-Teller distortion and the elimination of orbital degeneracy, thereby broadening the e g ∗ band of NiOOH. This feature is beneficial for the electron transfer between W-doped NiOOH and HMF (1.31 e − ), thereby promoting the C–H bond activation of the aldehyde group in HMF and effectively reducing the energy barrier of rate-determining step (RDS).

Direct ethanol fuel cells are promising clean energy devices, but the difficulty in cleaving the C─C bond of ethanol leads to low C1 pathway selectivity (typically ∼10%) and incomplete energy conversion. To address this challenge, we synthesized a porous multiphase Pd-based metallene nanocatalyst co-doped with oxygen-philic Cu and W. Temperature was identified as the key factor regulating the crystal structure: low temperatures yielded amorphous phases, high temperatures produced crystalline phases, and intermediate temperatures formed the desired crystalline/amorphous mixed multiphase structure. This multiphase structure provided abundant active sites. The optimal PdCuW metallene exhibited exceptional performance for ethanol electrooxidation: a record-high C1 pathway selectivity of 72.6% (1.6 times that of undoped Pd metallene and 10.2 times that of commercial Pd/C), a mass activity of 4301.6 mA/mg Pd (4.7 times that of commercial Pd/C), and superior stability (only 7.3% activity decay vs. 67.9% for commercial Pd/C). Mechanistic studies (In situ ATR-FTIR, DFT calculations) revealed that synergistic Cu-W doping reduced the C─C bond cleavage energy barrier, enhanced OH * adsorption, and weakened the poisoning effect of intermediate CO * . The work offers a rational design strategy for high-selectivity electrocatalysts, advancing ethanol's full energy utilization and holding broad implications for Pd-based catalyst systems in energy conversion technologies.

The efficient removal of low-concentration antibiotics from wastewater is a persistent challenge. In this work, we enhance the performance of a W-BiVO4photoanode by modifying it with CoNi-based metal–organic framework nanosheets (CoNi-MOF), constructing a W-BiVO4@CoNi-MOFN composite. This integration markedly improves the separation and migration of photogenerated charge carriers. Consequently, the modified photoanode delivers a substantially higher photocurrent density of 3.92 mA cm−2at 1.23 VRHE, representing a 2.3-fold enhancement over the pristine W-BiVO4(1.74 mA cm−2). Furthermore, the photoelectrocatalytic (PEC) system employing the W-BiVO4@CoNi-MOFN photoanode demonstrates significantly superior degradation efficiency for low-concentration tetracycline compared to the system based on unmodified W-BiVO4. The performance enhancement is attributed to a dual mechanism. First, the CoNi-MOF modification optimizes the PEC performance of W-BiVO4, facilitating the generation of photogenerated holes and active oxidants. Second, the composite photoanode exhibits enhanced tetracycline adsorption via π–π stacking and hydrogen bonding, thereby promoting degradation kinetics. The photoanode also shows excellent reusability. Total organic carbon (TOC) analysis and biotoxicity tests confirm effective mineralization and reduced environmental toxicity. Furthermore, the system demonstrates promising concurrent cathodic hydrogen evolution. This work highlights the potential of the W-BiVO4@CoNi-MOFN-based PEC system for integrated wastewater treatment and hydrogen production.

The long-term stability and reuse potential of the photocatalyst are of great concern for the degradation of organic pollutants in wastewater. A recycled photocatalyst with high reusability was synthesized by immobilizing BiVO 4 nanoparticles on alumina foam ceramic (BiVO@AFC) via a convenient dip-coating followed by calcination method. BiVO@AFC show stable photocatalytic activity for Rhodamine B (RhB) degradation over 90 cycles of experiments (180 h), requiring only 4 times of regeneration treatments. The regeneration is simple and economical, washing the photocatalyst with ultrapure water and dried it at 55 °C. Each regeneration could restore the RhB degradation rate to above 85%. Characterizations confirmed the stability of the materials in optical absorption and chemical properties. The dual doping of W and Mo within BiVO 4 (3 W-2Mo,BiVO@AFC) exhibits a synergistic effect, significantly enhancing photocatalytic performance and stability. The co-doping also can suppress the loss in specific surface area and pore volume of BiVO@AFC originated from the normal wear and tear during the photocatalytic process. As a result of that, the RhB degradation rate of 3 W-2Mo:BiVO@AFC remained above 80% over 90 cycles of experiments (180 h) requiring 4 times of regeneration. And the RhB degradation rate can be restored to above 94% by the same regeneration with BiVO@AFC. Photogenerated hole (h + ) plays a major role in removing RhB in this case. While the dual doping of W and Mo is in favour of generating more ·OH and ·O₂ − radicals for degradation by promoting photocharges transfer and separation. These make it a promising candidate for large-scale applications for wastewater treatment.

The surface of the C shell is covered with mesoporous channels, which promotes the occurrence of the confinement effect. • The abundant hydroxyl groups enable the C shell not only to exert physical adsorption but also to cooperate with chemical adsorption. • Both the dual transition metal regulation mechanism and the electron cooperative mechanism can be applied in ODS. • The desulfurization rate (99.53%) can be achieved under the mild reaction condition with less dosages of catalysts and ILs. • EPR analysis and radical scavenging assay experiments confirmed that one type of free radicals acts in the ODS. Common transition metal catalysts have been widely applied in catalytic reaction. However, the shortcomings in electronic regulation mechanism, confinement effect, and synergistic adsorption remain to be urgently addressed. This study designed a dual-transition-metal-based catalyst (Mo-W@C) with a surface rich in hydroxyl functional groups. Its bimetallic active components are obtained through protonation reaction. The C shell is coated on the bimetallic active components through self-assembly and directional anchoring. These procedures reduce the interatomic distance between Mo and W in the bimetallic active component, enhancing the electronic interaction between them. The confinement effect of the C shell accelerates the collision of reaction molecules. Furthermore, the abundant hydroxyl groups on the surface of the C shell facilitate the rapid adsorption of H 2 O 2 . A high sulfur removal rate of Mo-W@C (99.56 %) was achieved under mild reaction conditions (V(ILs) = 0.1 mL, m(catalyst) = 10 mg, V(H 2 O 2 ) = 0.15 mL, 80 °C, 90 min). Moreover, the catalyst still maintained a high desulfurization rate (95.76 %) after seven cycles. The catalytic reaction mechanism involving peroxide state and electronic synergy was elucidated by experiments and analyses (XPS, EPR, etc.). This catalytic structure provides a new perspective for the research on supported catalysts. Download: Download high-res image (151KB) Download: Download full-size image

The development of efficient oxygen evolution (OER) catalysts in neutral media is crucial for the production of biomixed fuels and chemicals. The unique reaction environment makes the reaction kinetics sluggish and poses significant challenges for catalyst design. Therefore, this study presents the synthesis of W, Cr-Co 3 O 4 electrocatalysts using the hydrothermal calcination method for neutral OER. The doping of W and Cr modulates the electronic structure of Co 3 O 4 and enhances electrical conductivity. Moreover, the double doping of W and Cr accelerates the catalyst's reconstruction, thereby improving catalytic activity. The optimized W, Cr-Co 3 O 4 demonstrates efficient OER catalytic performance in 1 M phosphate buffer solution, with an overpotential of 347 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm −2 and stable operation for over 100 h. This work deepens the understanding of the reconstruction mechanism of OER catalysts in a neutral environment and provides valuable insights for the design of stable and efficient catalysts.

In the present work, W, Mo, and MoS 2 reinforced graphite/copper composites were prepared using microwave sintering. By focusing on the copper matrix and graphite reinforcement, W and Mo elements were introduced into the copper matrix, while MoS 2 was doped into the graphite. During sintering, carbide pinning phases and Cu-Mo-S transition layers were formed at the graphite/copper interface, enhancing the interfacial bonding between graphite and copper. The effects of sintering time on the microstructure and properties of the composites were investigated, including their tribological performance under varying friction loads and linear speeds. A sintering time of 60 min was observed to lead to composite materials with improved microstructural properties, specifically a higher density of pinning phases and Cu-Mo-S transition layers, as well as a uniform microstructure. Significant improvements were observed in density, hardness, electrical, and thermal conductivity. Under a friction load of 4 N and a sliding speed of 1.7 m/s, the wear rate of the composites was only 4.52 × 10 −8 cm 3 N −1 m −1 . These findings provide a reference for improving the interface of graphite/copper composites and their application in the field of friction and wear.

The promoter is very important for effective catalysts, and the relationship among active species, promoter, and support is a hot topic in the field of catalysis. This work aims to investigate the influence of the promoter on the formation of effective active species. For this purpose, V was leached out from V-loaded TiO 2 (V/Ti) step by step, and the loaded V was classified into different species based on their performances in the catalytic oxidation of chlorobenzene. As a result, when V/Ti was co-doped with Mo or W, the chlorobenzene conversion rate was increased from 48.1% to 54.0% (Mo) or 61.0% (W) at 210 °C. The enhancement was attributed to the redistribution of V species. Specifically, 7.8% of V was “Inactive” V on V/Ti. This “Inactive” V was transformed into an “Active” species. At the same time, “Highly-active V” amounts were increased from 86.0% (V 3.3 /Ti) to 88.1% (WV 3.3 /Ti) and 87.1% (MoV 3.3 /Ti). According to the mechanism investigation, when W and Mo coexisted with V during the synthesis, V 3+ was oxidized into V 5+ , which is easily invaded into the TiO 2 , created more strong acidic sites, and activated more active lattice oxygens. These are all in favor of the effective catalytic oxidation of chlorobenzene. The new understanding of the promoter effect will help to produce a more effective catalyst using the same amount of active species. Graphical abstract

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) of MoO 3 semiconductors leverages charge-transfer (CT) pathways to achieve highly sensitive detection of toxic molecules, demonstrating significant potential for multiple applications. However, insufficient CT pathways and efficiencies are key factors limiting the development. In this work, W-doped MoO 3 substrates with different doping ratio were prepared using double-target magnetron sputtering method to increase the CT pathway formation. UV–Vis and UPS analyses indicate that the enhancement of SERS activity was mainly due to the narrowing of the optical bandgap and the optimization of band edge positions, which promoted the formation of photo induced charge transfer pathways. The W-doped MoO 3 substrates significantly elevated the SERS response by several orders of magnitude compared to the original value, achieving an enhancement factor (EF) of CV up to 1.31 × 10 6 . Importantly, the W-doped MoO 3 substrates have proven capable of simultaneously detecting two types of pollutant molecules in river water affected by industrial emissions, highlighting their practical application potential in environmental monitoring.

To enhance the bioaccessibility of vitamin D3 in fortified food systems, hydrodynamic cavitation, ultrasonic cavitation, and an ascorbic acid/hydrogen peroxide system were employed to generate free radicals that mediated the formation of gallic acid-soy protein isolate (GA-SPI) conjugates. The resulting conjugates were used to stabilize emulsions. The emulsion properties and their effects on vitamin D3 delivery were investigated. Sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) confirmed that covalent conjugation between GA and SPI was promoted by free radical generation in all three treatments. Compared with emulsions prepared with soy protein isolate alone, significant improvements were observed for emulsions stabilized by GA-SPI conjugates, including smaller particle size, higher absolute zeta potential, higher storage modulus, and improved storage stability and antioxidant capacity. These improvements were attributed to GA incorporation and the processing methods. More importantly, when used to encapsulate vitamin D3, bioaccessibility ranged from 53.36 ± 0.57% to 80.06 ± 0.12% for GA-SPI stabilized emulsions prepared by these methods, compared with the untreated group. These findings confirm that emulsion delivery performance can be improved by the three free radical-mediated treatments through promotion of polyphenol-protein conjugation.

A polystyrene-based foam with excellent mechanical properties was prepared. • The synergistic effect of low surface energy and micro-nano rough structure provides excellent anti-adhesion performance against high-temperature oil and water, enabling the material to effectively separate high-temperature emulsions. • The high tortuosity factor of the 3D microporous material ensures high separation efficiency, while the fluid shear force generated under applied pressure effectively expels the demulsified internal phases, thereby ensuring long-term separation of high-temperature emulsions. The separation of water from high-temperature emulsions in real time remains highly challenging due to the potential failure of material wettability. In this study, we develop a thermally stable oleophobic/hydrophobic microporous polystyrene-based foam (FPEI/MoS 2 PS foam) by combining a low-surface-energy fluorinated coating with a micro-nano rough structure. The foam was fabricated via a high internal phase emulsion (HIPE) templating method to construct a 3D microporous structure. Subsequently, MoS 2 was grown on the foam skeleton through a hydrothermal process, followed by the covering of a fluorinated polyethyleneimine (FPEI) functional coating. The resulting foam exhibits a rough microporous structure and thermally stable oleophobic/hydrophobic wettability (WCA and OCA above 128° even at 90 °C). Within a temperature range of 60–90 °C, the material effectively separates surfactant-free emulsions, surfactant-stabilized emulsions, and real industrial emulsions from diesel cracking processes. For W/D ⁎ (surfactant-free water in diesel emulsion), W/D (surfactant-stabilized water in diesel emulsion) and real industrial emulsions at 90 °C, the permeation flux reached 4600, 3050, and 1700 L m −2 h −1 , respectively, with all separation efficiencies exceeded 98%. In order to acquire a red light-emitting component for an efficient w -LEDs device, we synthesized a series of Eu 3+ -doped Sr 2 GaTaO 6 (SGT) phosphors using a traditional high-temperature solid-phase technique. The results of UV diffuse reflectance proved that the SGT host possesses a broad optical energy bandgap ( E gap ) of 4.47 eV (calculated value). The relevant characteristic spectra were also tested. By monitoring the emission at 612 nm, the excitation peak at 466 nm matches the blue light region (460–470 nm) of the popular blue LED chips on the market. The photoluminescence (PL) spectra of SGT: Eu 3+ phosphors at room temperature consisting of four obvious PL bands ( 5 D 0 → 7 F 1 , 5 D 0 → 7 F 2 , 5 D 0 → 7 F 3 , and 5 D 0 → 7 F 4 ) in the visible range. And the PL properties are necessarily analyzed by fluorescence decay curves. And it exhibits a decent photoluminescence quantum yield (39.88%). Moreover, the color purity and the ∆E of the SGT: 0.2Eu 3+ sample are 96.5% and 0.29 eV, respectively, demonstrating that the ∆E of SGT: Eu 3+ phosphor is superior to other reported Eu 3+ -doped materials for w -LEDs applications. The results manifest that the Eu 3+ doped SGT phosphors can be outstanding candidates for w -LEDs applications with high color purity and activation energy.
