Manganese-based cathodes are competitive candidates for state-of-the-art aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) because of their easy preparation method, sufficient nature reserve, and environmental friendliness. However, their poor cycle stability and low rate performance have prevented them from practical applications. In this study, Mn 3 O 4 nanoparticles were formed in situ on the surface and between the interlayers of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene, which was pretreated by the intercalation of K + ions. Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene not only provides abundant active sites and high conductivity but also hinders the structural damage of Mn 3 O 4 during charging and discharging. Benefiting from the well-designed K-Ti 3 C 2 @Mn 3 O 4 structure, the battery equipped with the K-Ti 3 C 2 @Mn 3 O 4 cathode achieved a maximum specific capacity of 312 mAh/g at a current density of 0.3 A/g and carried a specific capacity of approximately 120 mAh/g at a current density of 1 A/g, which remained stable for approximately 500 cycles. The performance surpasses that of most reported Mn 3 O 4 -based cathodes. This study pioneers a new approach for building better cathode materials for AZIBs.

Expediting the separation and transfer of photogenerated carriers is crucial for plasmonic materials to improve the performance of photocatalysts. However, it remains a significant challenge to strengthen the local surface plasma resonance (LSPR) through the modulation of surface functional groups. Herein, Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene is combined with two typical semiconductor materials to form Ti 3 C 2 T x /CdS (TCS) with dominated surface O x groups and Ti 3 C 2 T x /C 3 N 4 (TCN) with surface-terminated F x species. The obtained TCS composite shows a higher photocatalytic performance (96.7 %) than TCN (86.7 %) and the corresponding bare catalysts in the degradation of tetracycline within 60 min under visible-light irradiation. Moreover, the degradation rate of Ti 3 C 2 T x /CdS composite decreases by only 2.3 % after 4 cycles photocatalytic process, which is more stable than Ti 3 C 2 T x /C 3 N 4 (3.3 %) and CdS (39.3 %). The improved photocatalytic activity and stability mainly result from the enhanced LSPR effect of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene. In particular, the better performance of TCS compared to TCN indicates that the LSPR effect is highly related to the surface-terminated [O]/[F] ratio. These results directly provide a strategy to enhance the electric field dynamics of MXene materials for improving photocatalytic performance.

Application of three-dimensional (3D) carbon framework in phase change material (PCM) has aroused a tremendous interest. However, implementing a high alignment carbon framework with low interfacial thermal resistance (ITR) remain challenging. Herein, we demonstrated a synergetic effect strategy by Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene and graphene nanoplate (GNP) to achieve a 3D thermally conductive framework with high alignment skeleton and low filler-to-filler ITR. Typically, the 3D anisotropic carbon framework is fabricated by unidirectional ice template freezing cellulose nanofibers (CNF)/GNP solution with the assistance of MXene. The abundant functional groups of MXene and the similar layered structure promote the dispersion stability of GNP in CNF aqueous solution, resulting in the significant improvement in GNP alignment and the filler-to-filler ITR. Therefore, the final phase change composites obtained by impregnating polyethylene glycol (PEG) into the framework achieves a satisfactory thermal conductivity (TC) of up to 3.49 W/m K at only 6.25 vol% filler loading. Combining the solar-thermal conversion ability of graphene and MXene, the PCM reveals a rapid energy conversion, transfer and storage capability. More importantly, the phase change enthalpy of the PCM can be as high as 164.3 J/g, with little change even after 50 heating-cooling cycles, and the existence of carbon framework can effectively prevent the leakage phenomenon in solid-liquid conversion process, ensuring its shape stability.

Chemodynamic therapy (CDT) is a new cancer treatment that uses low-valence transition metal ions to catalyze intracellular Fenton/Fenton-like reactions, producing hydroxyl radicals (•OH) to eliminate cancer cells. However, achieving satisfactory therapeutic outcomes with CDT alone can be challenging. In this work, we reported an anticancer drug delivery DOX@HMDN-TQDs@PEI-PEG (DMTP) based on hollow mesoporous manganese dioxide nanoparticle (HMDN), which has the potential to improve cancer therapy by combining synergistic therapeutic and tumor magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) capability. After loading the anticancer drug doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX), the pores of HMDN were sealed with polyethyleneimine (PEI) modified Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene quantum dots (TQDs) and finally modified with polyethylene glycol (PEG) to obtain the final system. HMDN depletes glutathione (GSH), which is harmful to CDT, in cancer cells, and generates Mn 2+ that can be used for both CDT and MRI. TQDs can also be used for highly effective photothermal therapy (PTT) that enhances CDT. The combination of DOX with chemotherapy can significantly inhibit tumor growth. In addition, DMTP combines the capability of tumor MRI as Mn 2+ is also a T 1 -weighted contrast agent . This multifunctional delivery system provides new ideas for research related to tumor diagnosis and treatment.

The rapid advancement of flexible electronics is driving an urgent demand for polymer-based composites that synergistically possess high dielectric performance and superior mechanical properties. This study presents Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene/millable polyurethane (MPU) composite films fabricated via a combined mixing and hot-pressing approach, with a systematic investigation into the effects of MXene content on their properties. The dielectric constant increased linearly with filler content, attaining a value of 11.71 at 1 kHz for the composite with 12 wt% filler. An optimal balance was achieved at 8 wt% loading, yielding a dielectric constant of 11.13 (a 17.3 % enhancement over the neat MPU matrix value of 9.49) coupled with a low dielectric loss of 0.037. The breakdown strength peaked at 69.5 kV/mm for the 6 wt% composite (a 21.5 % improvement) and remained high at 60.2 kV/mm for the 8 wt% composite (a 5.2 % increase). Mechanical properties were significantly enhanced, with the elongation at break reaching a maximum of 682.7 % (94.8 % increase) and 614.1 % (75.3 % increase) at 10 wt% and 8 wt% loadings, respectively. Thermal stability was also enhanced, as evidenced by a 14.4 °C increase in the temperature for 5 % weight loss (to 276.1 °C) for the 10 wt% composite. Microstructural analysis revealed that the uniform dispersion of MXene enhanced interfacial polarization, the hot-pressing-induced orientation of lamellar planes elongated the electrical tree path, and a hydrogen-bonding network formed between the surface functional groups (–O, –OH) of MXene and MPU synergistically improved interfacial stress transfer and thermal stability. This work demonstrates the synergistic optimization of electrical, mechanical, and thermal properties via gradient filler content control, offering a novel strategy for designing high-performance flexible electronic materials.

An electrochemical aptasensor based on Ti 3 C 2 T x (MXene) and cDNA-PAA was established for sensitive detection of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) in peanuts. The high specific surface area of Ti 3 C 2 T x (MXene) contributed to improve electrochemical efficiency and enhancing sensor stability which were characterized by the Randles−Sevcik equation. The self-made polyacrylic acid (PAA) nanogel was added with aptamer complementary chain (cDNA) to form cDNA-PAA nano gel composite, which could realize the synergistic amplification of the difference between the electrochemical signals before and after the addition of AFB1. The sensing effect of cDNA-PAA was validated using DPV. Methylene blue (MB) was modified at the proximal 3′ termini of the aptamer (Apt-MB), meanwhile AuNPs was used to immobilize Apt-MB and improve the efficiency of electrochemical reactions. The competition between AFB1 and cDNA-PAA combined with Apt MB resulted in a significant change in the electrochemical signal current. In addition, the constructed electrochemical aptasensor had a lower detection limit of 1.0 × 10 −3 ng/L for AFB1 under optimal detection conditions, and a detection range of 1 to 1000 ng/L. Moreover, peanuts with different concentrations of AFB1 were used as actual detection samples. Through the constructed sensor detection, the spiked recovery rates within the spiking range of 50 to 500 ng/mL were 97.76% to 101.84% ( n = 3).

Two-dimensional Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene, with a large specific surface area, high chemical stability and excellent barrier properties, has become a promising of anti-corrosion filler in organic coatings. However, the poor dispersion and compatibility in organic coatings restrict its efficient application. To this end, L-histidine (L-His) corrosion inhibitor was grafted on the 3-aminopropyl triethoxysilane (APTES) functionalized Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene surface, under the electrostatic attraction between the carboxylate and protonated aminopropyl groups. The obtained APTES-Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene@L-His cannot only accelerate the dispersion of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene filler, but also greatly promote the anti-corrosion property and service lifetime of coatings through combining the physical shielding effect of MXene laminate structure with active anti-corrosion function of L-His corrosion inhibitor. Results show that amino-functionalized Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene can maintain homogeneous in epoxy resin for 300 h, enhancing its dispersion in epoxy coating. Moreover, APTES-Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene@L-His composite can achieve the continuous release of L-His for 3000 min, and additional acid-base dual response property, the releasing rate of L-His is significantly accelerated in acidic or alkaline solutions. The total loading amount of L-His in APTES-Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene@L-His composite is about 3 %. Furthermore, the practical composite coating containing APTES-Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene@L-His also exhibits the excellent anti-corrosion and certain self-healing properties, such as its |Z 0.01 Hz| value remains above 10 10 Ω·cm 2 during the 40 d immersing in 3.5 NaCl solution, which is 3 orders of magnitude higher than that of pure epoxy coating. This work extends the great significance for Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene based composite coatings application of in the field of anti-corrosion.

Developing miniaturization, adaptability and weavability wire-shaped supercapacitor (F-SC) with admirable electrochemical performance and exceptional mechanical properties, has been a pivotal issue for wearable system. Here, we fabricated flexible F-SCs assembled by heterogeneous polyaniline (PANI)/bacterial cellulose (BC)/Ti 3 C 2 T x (PBT) hybrid fiber. BC nanofibers , as both reinforcement and spacer, can link with the adjacent Ti 3 C 2 T x flakes together to enhance the mechanical properties and prevent the restacking of Ti 3 C 2 T x flakes to accelerate the ion diffusion. And the PANI nanoparticle plays a crucial role in providing more active sites to improve the electrochemical performance. Besides, the continuous Ti 3 C 2 T x sheet arrangement in hybrid fiber guarantees favorable conductivity and forms a smooth pathway for electron migration. Thus, the PBT fiber shows high mechanical property (123.42 MPa), mass capacitance of 337 F g −1 in 1 A g −1 , superior rate performance (129 F g −1 at 10 A g −1 ) and exceptional cycling stability (84.1 % capacitance retention after 10,000 cycling). Moreover, the solid-state symmetric F-SC displays capacitance of 259 F g −1 , 86 % capacitance retention after 10,000 cycles, maximum energy density of 7.28 Wh kg −1 and favorable mechanical endurance, which displays a promising future in smart wearable system.

The integration of osteogenic and antibacterial properties into biomaterials is crucial for addressing infected bone defects. Mesoporous bioactive glass (MBG) is widely recognized for its bioactivity and tunable porous structure, making it a promising candidate for bone repair. However, conventional MBG lacks inherent antibacterial properties, limiting its application in postoperative infection management. In this study, we have successfully developed Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene modified MBG (Ti 3 C 2 T x /MBG) nanocomposites with osteogenic and antibacterial properties. The results reveal that the incorporation of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene significantly enhances the mineralization capability, as evidenced by accelerated hydroxyapatite formation in simulated body fluid within 7 days compared to pure MBG. Notably, the nanocomposite exhibits no cytotoxicity toward MC3T3-E1 cells and markedly upregulates key osteogenic genes, including Alp, Runx2, Col1a1, Opn, and Ocn . Moreover, Ti 3 C 2 T x /MBG nanocomposite displays remarkable photothermal antibacterial efficacy, achieving 99.6% inhibition of Staphylococcus aureus under near-infrared irradiation. This study proposes a versatile strategy to synthesize multifunctional MXene/MBG nanocomposites with enhanced apatite mineralization, osteogenic gene expression, and antibacterial activity, demonstrating great potential for bone tissue engineering and other biomedical applications.

Two-dimensional (2D/2D) heterojunction photocatalysts hold great promise for solar-driven antibacterial disinfection owing to their unique interfacial architectures and tunable electronic properties. However, insufficient interfacial electronic coupling and ineffective charge separation still hinder their practical performance. Here, a sulfur-doped g-C 3 N 4 /Ti 3 C 2 Tx-MXene (SCN/MXene) 2D/2D heterojunction is rationally designed to enable efficient charge separation and transfer, delivering superior solar-driven antibacterial activity with remarkable stability. Combined experimental and theoretical analyses reveal that sulfur doping modulates the electronic structure of g-C 3 N 4 , elevates its Fermi level, and strengthens interfacial electronic coupling with Ti 3 C 2 Tx-MXene, thereby enhancing the built-in electric field and facilitating charge transfer across the interface. Moreover, S-doping induces interfacial charge redistribution, enhancing O 2 adsorption and activation at Ti sites and thereby accelerating the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Consequently, SCN/MXene achieves nearly complete inactivation of Escherichia coli , Staphylococcus aureus , and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus within 60 min under solar irradiation, outperforming most of the state-of-the-art photocatalysts.

Parasitic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and anode passivation are two intertwined challenges that profoundly limit the energy efficiency and operational lifespan of alkaline aluminum-air (Al-air) batteries. Here, we construct a uniform Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene functional layer on pure aluminum (Al) surface via a facile solution-immersion self-assembly process. The assembled MXene architecture acts a highly effective, selective interfacial regulator with state-dependent dual-functionality. During open-circuit standby, its unique 2D structure impedes water reduction, yielding a ∼46% reduction in the HER rate (from 0.129 to 0.070 ml cm −2 ·min −1 ). Conversely, during discharge, the intrinsically conductive MXene framework facilitates highly uniform anodic dissolution. Consequently, in static alkaline cells (10 mA cm −2 ), the MXene-Al anode delivers an exceptional specific capacity of 2216 mAh·g −1 and an energy density of 3303 Wh·kg −1 , substantially outperforming pure Al (1350 mAh·g −1 , 1818 Wh·kg −1 ). Furthermore, under cyclic on/off discharge with electrolyte flow, the functionalized anode extends operational lifetime by roughly one-third (from 82 to 111 h). Post-discharge characterization confirms that the MXene layer remains structurally intact on the Al surface after prolonged operation. These results establish solution-assembled MXene functional layers as a practical approach for simultaneously addressing HER and passivation in alkaline Al-air batteries.

Interfacial polarization tuning via BO x F y modification and in situ N-doped carbon • Synergistic interfacial polarization for dielectric response and impedance matching • Minimum reflection loss of −58.97 dB with a bandwidth of 4.24 GHz Pristine Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene generally suffers from severe impedance mismatch arising from its excessive electrical conductivity, which fundamentally limits efficient electromagnetic wave (EMW) attenuation. Herein, an interfacial modulation strategy is proposed by integrating fluorinated boron oxide (BO x F y ) nanophases and in situ derived N-doped carbon into a Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene framework through a hydrothermal process. Distinct from conventional boron-containing modification, the introduced BO x F y species provide abundant polarization-active sites and tailor the local interfacial environment through the coexistence of B O and B F coordination, thereby improving dielectric polarization and impedance matching. Meanwhile, the in situ formed N-doped carbon establishes defect-rich conductive networks, enabling balanced conductive loss and dipolar polarization. More importantly, the synergistic coupling among BO x F y nanophases, N-doped carbon, and Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene constructs abundant heterogeneous interfaces and multiscale conductive pathways, facilitating interfacial polarization and electromagnetic energy dissipation. As a result, the optimized BN(1:1)-MXene achieves a minimum reflection loss of −58.97 dB at 1.77 mm and an effective absorption bandwidth of 4.24 GHz. Furthermore, radar cross-section simulations demonstrate remarkable electromagnetic scattering suppression with a maximum reduction of 32.05 dB m 2 at normal incidence. This work highlights the synergistic effects of interfacial modulation on electromagnetic attenuation, offering a promising strategy for high-performance MXene-based EMW absorbers.
