Poor intrinsic conductivity and significant volume expansion inhibit the application of SiO which shows high specific capacity in LIBs . In this study, we successfully prepared a SiC transition layer in the middle of SiO@C anode material to reduce its volume swelling by the direct infiltration and pyrolysis of polymethysilane. The results demonstrated that the introduction of the SiC transition layer effectively improved the electrochemical behavior of the SiO anode. The SiO@SiC@C composite showed a high initial coulombic efficiency of 78.99% and a reversible capacity of 1148.7 mAh g −1 after 200 cycles at 0.5 A g −1 , which displayed an extreme capacity retention of 91% compared to second discharge capacity (1263.5 mAh g −1 ). Moreover, the SiO@SiC@C exhibited superior rate capability of an average capacity recovery rate of 97% when the rate cycle recovered from 3 A g −1 to 0.1 A g −1 . It also displayed outstanding long-term cycling stability, retaining 78% of its discharge capacity of 483.3 mAh g −1 after 1000 cycles compared to the 7th cycle even at 3 A g −1 . In conclusion, the incorporation of the SiC transition layer for SiO electrodes exhibited considerable potential for developing high-performance anodes.

Proposes an end-to-end LIBS framework eliminating manual delay time selection. • Introduces a Physics-Inspired Multi-Scale Spatio-Temporal Network (MS-STN). • Develops ACSNOA algorithm balancing global exploration and local exploitation. • Achieves 43.4 % MAE improvement (2.566 µg/g) for 10 µg/g Cr extrapolation. The rapid detection of heavy metal contamination is crucial for environmental and public health. Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) has great potential for in situ analysis, but its quantitative accuracy is limited by empirical delay-time selection and insufficient precision at trace levels. This study proposes an end-to-end intelligent framework to overcome these limitations. We introduce a physics-inspired multi-scale spatio-temporal network (MS-STN), which shifts multi-scale analysis from the spectral to the temporal dimension of plasma evolution. This allows automatic feature extraction from full time-series spectra, eliminating tedious pre-selection of a single delay time based on metrics like signal-to-noise or signal-to-background ratios. An adaptive chaotic simulated newtonian optimization algorithm (ACSNOA) is also proposed for stable hyperparameter tuning. Experiments on chromium (Cr)-spiked licorice samples show that MS-STN achieves a mean absolute error of 2.566 µg/g and a prediction root mean square error of 2.889 µg/g for 10 µg/g Cr extrapolation, significantly outperforming benchmark models. Ablation studies validate each core component, and ACSNOA shows superior optimization stability. This work provides a high-precision, automated, and physics-informed paradigm for LIBS-based heavy metal analysis, advancing its real-time, on-site monitoring applications. Plasma amplification laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (Plasma amplification LIBS) has shown great potential in N elements in water due to high sensitivity, precision, and accuracy. To further reduce interferes of the atmospheric nitrogen, the effect of laser wavelength on the quantitative determination of nitrogen in water was investigated. With short laser wavelength, stronger spectral line intensity, lower interference from atmospheric nitrogen, and superior analytical performance were obtained. The linear coefficient of determination (R²) of the calibration curve improved from 0.2147 to 0.9732, the limit of detection (LOD) was reduced from 18.98 ppm to 3.41 ppm, and the spectral stability, expressed as average relative standard deviation (RSDAV), was reduced from 10.49% to 5.45%. Moreover, the average relative error (REAV) and the root mean square error of cross-validation (RMSECV) for the predicted concentrations were improved by approximately 56.82% and 71.79%, respectively. These results demonstrate that the 532 nm wavelength in plasma amplification LIBS can significantly enhance both the detection sensitivity and the accuracy of quantitative analysis for nitrogen in water.

With the emergence of advanced electronics and appliances, there is a growing demand for high power/energy density and cyclic stability of Li-ion batteries (LIBs), which stimulates the development of high-performance electrode materials. Herein, we proposed and implemented a novel strategy of employing the LDH → LDO intermediate-transformation amorphization to improve the performance of LDH as LIBs anode. In this work, flower-like NiCo-LDH nanoparticles (LDH RT ) are synthesized for the first time by co-precipitation using triethanolamine (TEA) as an alkali source and H 2 O 2 as a size-controlling reagent. Then, the unique LDH nanocrystal@amorphousness core–shell structure was obtained by fine-tuning the heat treatment, which significantly improved the electrochemical properties of the material. The layered structure of LDH and the internal defects of the amorphous phase provide abundant transport channels and a larger accommodation space for Li + , improving the rate capability and capacity of LIBs. In addition, the surface amorphous layer and the reduced size of LDH RT nanocrystals effectively alleviate the volume effect, improving the cycling stability of the electrode material. As a result, superior capacity (1821.3 mAh g −1 at 0.1 A g −1 ), rate capability, and cyclic stability (∼687.7 mAh g −1 at 0.5 A g −1 after 500 cycles, with the average capacity attrition rate of 0.092 %) were achieved. The Li + diffusion coefficient and capacity retention rate (after 300 cycles) are higher than nearly 3 orders of magnitude and 50.12 % compared to the LDH RT , respectively. This study has opened a simple, safe, and economical new avenue for developing high-performance electrode materials.

Heavy metal pollution threatens human health and ecosystems, and countries have established strict standards for heavy metal content in water bodies. This paper presents a new method based on microporous array sprayed on solid substrate enhanced laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (MASSS-LIBS) technology and NELIBS, which enables high sensitivity and multi-element detection at the μg/L level. The method involves sequentially spraying metal nanomaterials, water samples, and surfactants onto a silicon substrate to form nanostructures that are conducive to LIBS analysis. Experimental research examined the impact of key parameters, including surfactant type and nanoparticle preparation, on signal quality. Results showed significant improvements in signal intensity and stability after forming nanostructures compared to using only Au nanoparticles. Different surfactants provided varying LIBS enhancements for heavy metals, with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) demonstrating superior enhancement and stability for Pb, Cr, Cu, and Mn. Controlling nanoparticle density through spraying time for Au NPs helped manage nanostructure surface density and reduce Au nanoparticle loss, further enhancing LIBS signals. Under optimized parameters, the intensity of LIBS spectral peaks following nanostructure formation was approximately 10 times higher than that observed without nanostructures, with a stability of 6 %. The LoD for Mn reached sub-μg/L levels, while the LoD for Cu, Cr, and Pb was approximately several μg/L, demonstrating a one-order-of-magnitude improvement. In eleven quantitative inversion experiments in the low concentration range of tens of μg/L. Overall, this method shows potential as an alternative for qualitative and quantitative analyses in water quality testing.

The electronic conductivity of TiO 2 -based anodes was improved fundamentally by co-integrating the oxygen vacancy of TiO 2 into the homogeneous structure with cobalt doping. The results showed that the introduction of oxygen vacancies and Co expanded the lattice space, reduced the charge transfer resistance, and effectively increased the electronic conductivity and ionic transport. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations illustrated that Co doping resulted in a continuous distribution of electronic states at the Fermi energy level, which permitted the sample Co-A/R-TiO 2 to have enhanced metallic properties. The presence of abundant grain boundaries, interfacial and vacancy defects in the hollow microsphere anode all served as additional active sites for Li + storage. The Co-A/R-TiO 2 anode had a high reversible specific capacity of 443 mAh/g after 500 cycles at 0.5 C current density. The high capacity was mainly attributed to the synergistic effect of the perfect defect structure of the hollow spheres and the heterogeneous interfaces. This strategy of using defects combined with homo/heterojunction engineering could be extended to the design of other conventional semiconductor materials as energy storage electrodes.

The recovery of valuable metals from spent LIBs is essential for environmental protection and economic development. This study used a green and mild organic mixed acid to leach valuable metals from spent LIBs to prepare thermally sensitive ceramics. The effects of acid concentration, temperature, time, and S/L on the leaching efficiency were investigated during the leaching process. The effects of the elemental molar ratio on the ceramic properties were also explored. The results revealed that there was an optimum leaching efficiency at 1.25 M citric acid, 0.5 M ascorbic acid, 70 min, 353 K, 50 g/L, and 500 r/min. The characterization of the substances before and after leaching by XRD and SEM confirmed the effective leaching of valuable metals by the mixed acids. FT-IR, Raman, and UV-Vis analyses further verified that the mixed acids leached valuable metals through the synergistic effect of acidity and reduction. The leaching kinetics study revealed that the leaching process conforms to the leaching mechanism of the Arvami equation. Thermal ceramic materials were prepared by co-precipitation of mixed acid leaching spent LIBs. Mn 1.2 Co x Ni 1.8-x O 4 (x = 1.5) ceramics have excellent crystalline shapes and densification. The R-T curves confirmed that Mn 1.2 Co x Ni 1.8-x O 4 has significant thermally sensitive ceramic properties. This study is the first to use spent LIBs with valuable metals for the preparation of thermal ceramics, which provides a new way to recycle and apply valuable metals in spent LIBs.

This study combined the electro-deposition (ED) method with laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) to detect trace metal Pb and Cr elements in water. First, the trace metal Pb and Cr elements in water were enriched to the surface of the Al metal substrate by the ED method. The effect of the Al substrate temperature (ST) on the emission intensity of Pb and Cr atoms was investigated. The emission of Pb and Cr atoms increased with increasing the Al ST. Second, the effect of Al ST on the quantitative analysis of Pb and Cr elements was studied. Moreover, the limit of detection (LOD) was calculated by the Long & Winefordner formula. Interestingly, as the Al ST increased from 25 °C to 200 °C, the LODs of Pb and Cr elements decreased from 17 and 12 ng mL−1 to 12 and 5 ng mL−1, respectively. Finally, the effect of Al ST on the detection accuracy of Pb and Cr elements in water was discussed. The discussion indicated that the accuracy of the quantitative analysis of Pb and Cr elements improved substantially by increasing the Al ST. Therefore, the study suggests that increasing the Al ST can enhance the detection ability and accuracy of trace metal elements in an aqueous solution by LIBS.

Tungsten impurities deposited on the plasma-facing components (PFCs) of the inner walls of tokamak devices pose a significant risk to steady-state operation and safety. Nevertheless, a quantitative chemical analysis of the co-deposited layer on PFCs is a critical task. Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is a promising technique for assessing the deposition of impurities on PFCs, enabling in-situ monitoring, real-time analysis, and simultaneous detection of all elements. However, the accuracy of the quantitative analysis is affected by the effects of the material matrix. Diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) provides complementary information about the material matrix, such as optical properties. Herein, we present a novel data fusion model of LIBS and DRS techniques, providing more accurate results compared to the models based on each of these single methods. 66 standard samples were prepared to simulate the impurities deposited on PFCs in EAST. 15 samples were randomly selected as prediction set, while the remaining 51 samples were used as calibration set. The average relative errors of the data fusion model for W, Li, Fe, and O were 2.23, 1.95, 2.08, and 0.39%, respectively. Compared with the single LIBS data model, the root mean square errors of prediction(RMSEP) of four elements W, Fe, Li, and O in the data fusion model are reduced by 19.4, 18.5, 21.4, and 20.9%, respectively. The results show that the fusion of LIBS and DRS data enables an improved quantitative analysis of co-deposited impurities on PFCs.

The low electronic conductivity and poor Li + diffusion coefficient of conventional LiFePO 4 (LFP) materials severely impede its high-rate applications for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). To break these limits, one novel poly(1,3-diethynylbenzene) (PAB) acetylenic carbon-rich polymer with extremely high-carbon content (96.75 wt%) and good solubility has been prepared by an oxidative coupling reaction. One definite advantage is that this carbon-rich PAB polymer will release, upon pyrolysis , very low amounts of gas, forming therefore uniform and dense highly conductive carbon network. Besides, the specific resistivity of continuous PAB-C layer can be as low as ∼0.01 Ω cm, which can effectively improve electrical conductivity and maintain mechanical integrity of LFP cathode. As a result, the prepared LFP@PAB-C nanocomposites with approximately 3.8 wt% carbon content and 2.5 nm carbon layer exhibit an excellent high-rate capability, e.g. even at a considerable discharge rate of 50 C, while the capacity can still be remained at 129.6 mA h g −1 . Moreover, the LFP@PAB-C nanocomposites also reveal a remarkable cycling stability with as high as 100.6% capacity retention at 20 C over 1000 cycles. This kind of LFP@PAB-C composite was demonstrated to be an ideal cathode material for high-power LIBs.

Rapid and accurate determination of quality parameters (carbon content, ash, volatile matter, and calorific value) is essential for the clean and efficient utilization of coal. In this work, an innovative strategy combining dual-pulse laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (DP-LIBS) with machine learning algorithms is proposed. Through systematic optimization of critical parameters, including laser wavelengths (1064 + 532 nm), pulse energy distribution (50 + 20 mJ), pulse interval (0.5 μs), and sampling distance (9.9 cm), spectral signal intensity and signal-to-noise ratio are significantly enhanced. Furthermore, by integrating spectral preprocessing (wavelet denoising, baseline correction, and Z-score normalization) with partial least squares regression, random forest, support vector machine regression (SVMR), and k-nearest neighbor, a high-precision coal quality prediction framework is presented. The experimental results demonstrate that under DP-LIBS conditions, the SVMR algorithm significantly reduces the prediction error for carbon content with a mean relative error (MRE) of 3.05% and a root mean square error of prediction of 2.44%, and yields optimal performance for calorific value prediction with an MRE of 3.74%. This work provides a high-throughput, low-error solution for online coal quality detection, advancing the practical application of LIBS technology in energy quality monitoring and carbon neutrality pathways.

Direct ink writing (DIW) is a promising additive manufacturing technique for fabricating shape-customized lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) due to its simplicity, material compatibility, and shapeability. A key component of DIW is the electrode inks with appropriate rheology and clog-free property for three-dimensional (3D) printed LIBs. Here, a series of clog-free printable electrode inks for LIBs are developed by a practical and universal approach with multiple ball-milled processes. The inks can be used for an ultralong printing process without blockage, showing great printability and rheological properties. The sizes of the electrode particles and secondary aggregates both decrease in the inks, making uniform particle distribution in the dried printed electrodes. Particle transport simulations in the ink flow field also illustrate that smaller particles are less likely to clog the nozzle inlet. Meanwhile, the 3D printed electrodes demonstrate stable cycling stability and rate capability compared to conventional electrodes, showing average discharge capacities of 158.3, 145.8, and 147.4 mAh g–1 in 100 cycles for Li4Ti5O12, LiNi0.815Co0.15Al0.035O2, and LiFePO4 half-cells, respectively. The full cells assembled with printed electrodes also exhibit a comparable discharge capacity. This approach offers a universal and low-cost strategy to manufacture complex electrode structures for customizable energy storage devices.
