Perovskite LaMnO 3 is reported to be a superior electrocatalyst for oxygen reduction reaction in terms of the onset potential and intrinsic activity. However, traditionally prepared LaMnO 3 is characterized to exhibit a low specific surface area and a limited pore volume . Herein, we synthesize a three-dimensional ordered macroporous LaMnO 3 that features ordered and interconnected porous structure , in order to increase catalytic sites. The obtained three-dimensional ordered macroporous LaMnO 3 exhibits an increased specific surface area of 20.328 m 2 g −1 and pore volume of 0.126 cm 3 g −1 . Rotating-ring-disk electrode measurement reveals a more positive onset potential (0.827 V) and half-wave potential (0.686 V), and a much higher current-limited density (5.90 mA cm −2 ) of the three-dimensional ordered macroporous LaMnO 3 compared to counterparts, as well as a high electron transfer number (∼4) and a better stability. Furthermore, a Li O 2 battery employing the three-dimensional ordered macroporous LaMnO 3 as air electrode exhibits excellent electrochemical performance with a higher initial discharge capacity (5592 mAh g −1 ), a smaller discharge-charge voltage gap (1.56 V), and a higher coulombic efficiency (∼100%) in comparison with the carbon electrode. Our results suggest that traditional perovskite oxides could be effectively optimized for efficient electrocatalytic reactions .

Air calcination stabilizes LaMnO 3 but can promote particle coarsening and oxidation-driven Mn-valence elevation, reducing Mn e g -electron availability for nitrite-to-ammonia conversion. Here, B-site Ni regulation yields a more dispersed LaMnO 3 nanoperovskite, LaMn 0.95 Ni 0.05 O 3 (LMNO), while coupling oxygen-defect formation with Mn-valence rebalancing without disrupting the LaMnO 3 -type lattice. Combined structural and spectroscopic analyses show stronger oxygen-defect signatures, enhanced lattice-oxygen reducibility, lower average Mn valence, and altered Mn-centered coordination after Ni incorporation. These changes suggest electron compensation of neighboring high-valent Mn species and a more electron-rich Mn–O environment for nitrite activation and hydrogenation. In situ infrared spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations further indicate stepwise intermediate hydrogenation, favorable H 2 O dissociation and initial NO 2 stabilization at Ni sites, Ni 3d and Mn 3d/O 2p states near the Fermi level, and more favorable overall conversion thermodynamics at Ni-regulated Mn sites. LMNO delivers an NH 3 yield rate of 8996 μg h −1 cm −2 with 97.3% Faradaic efficiency and remains stable for 400 h. Downstream acid trapping enables crystalline NH 4 Cl recovery, while tests with pretreated landfill leachate show a shift in nitrogen speciation toward NH 4 + and reduced seedling-growth inhibition.

Capacitive energy storage is distinguished from other types of electrochemical energy storage by short charging times, long life cycles, and ability to deliver significantly more power densities than batteries . In this study, Ca-doped perovskite lanthanum manganites (La 1-x Ca x MnO 3 , LCMs) were prepared by sol-gel method and used as electrode materials of supercapacitors . Microstructures, morphologies and electrochemical properties of the samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area measurements, cyclic voltammetry (CV), and galvanostatic charge/discharge (GCD) cycling. Among prepared materials, (La 1-x Ca x MnO 3 , with x = 0.50) showed low intrinsic resistance of 2.13 Ω cm 2 and large specific surface area of 23.0 m 2 g −1 . The maximum specific capacitance obtained with this sample reached 170 F g −1 at current density of 1 A g −1 in 1 M KOH aqueous electrolyte solutions . However, LCMs encountered serious elements leaching, limiting their applications as electrode materials of supercapacitors due to their poor cycling stabilities. To clarify this phenomenon, charge storage mechanism of LCMs and leaching elements in alkali solutions were investigated, and oxygen anion charge storage mechanism was studied by charge-discharge processes. Data revealed that charge storage of oxygen intercalation improved by doping with elements of low valence in perovskite manganites . Improvements in electrochemical performances of manganite electrodes require new effective methods prohibiting cations leaching in Ca-doped LaMnO 3 .

Graphical Oxygen vacancies were introduced into the perovskite LaMnO 3 using a carbon reduction process. LaMnO 3 was mixed with conductive carbon black in a 3:1 mass ratio, then heated at 500 °C for 2 h under an Ar atmosphere and allowed to cool naturally. The resulting novel composite material, LMOC-500, exhibited excellent catalytic activity and stability for the oxygen reduction reaction. Zinc-air batteries (ZABs) have garnered significant attention due to their high theoretical energy density, safety, and environmental sustainability. However, the slow oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) kinetics at the cathode remains a major challenge for improving ZAB performances. In this study, ABO 3 -type perovskite transition metal oxides, particularly LaMnO 3 , are explored as potential nonprecious metal catalysts to address these limitations. In this work, the LaMnO 3 catalyst was prepared using the sol-gel method, and oxygen vacancies were introduced through a novel carbon reduction approach using conductive carbon black as the reducing agent. The catalyst was reduced at different temperatures to optimize its ORR activity. The 500 °C-reduced sample (LMOC-500) shows the superior catalytic performances, achieving an onset potential of 0.937 V versus RHE and a half-wave potential of 0.824 V versus RHE. The optimized material also exhibited excellent stability in long-term discharge tests in ZAB applications, demonstrating its potential application as the ORR catalyst for ZABs.

Perovskites have been attractive materials in electrocatalysis due to their virtues of low cost, variety, and tuned activity. Herein, we firstly demonstrate superior electrochemical kinetics of LaBO 3 (B = V, Cr, Mn) perovskites towards vanadium redox reactions in vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFBs). LaBO 3 (B = V, Cr, Mn) perovskites present the intrinsic catalysis towards V 3+ /V 2+ and VO 2+ /VO 2 + redox reactions in order of LaMnO 3 > LaCrO 3 > LaVO 3 . The catalysis is primarily attributed to activity of B-O bindings and perovskite structure that effectively promote the adsorption of vanadium ions. Moreover, perovskite contributes more active sites to vanadium redox reactions, resulting in a boosted electron exchange for redox reactions. Full cell tests demonstrate an energy efficiency (EE) of 60% at 300 mA cm −2 using graphite felt/LaMnO 3 (GF/LaMnO 3 ) electrodes. At 200 mA cm −2 , the GF/LaMnO 3 electrodes allow a 20% increase in EE of the flow cell as compared to pristine GF. The underlying catalysis mechanism of perovskite for vanadium redox reactions is also elucidated by density function theory, which lays the groundwork for future research into development of perovskite family in VRFBs.

The microstructure and magnetotransport of LaMnO 3 manganite have been studied. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) at room temperature show that the LaMnO 3 sample has a single-phase orthorhombic structure, and the sample particles and elements are densely and evenly distributed. By studying the temperature dependence of resistivity and magnetoresistance (MR), and the magnetic filed dependence of resistivity, it is found that the resistivity versus temperature curves of LaMnO 3 show three extreme values in the temperature range of 10–390 K. Firstly, the minimum resistivity at about 70 K comes from the spin polarization tunneling effect. Secondly, there is a maximum resistivity near 189 K due to the inhomogeneity of the polycrystalline sample. Finally, the traditional metal to insulator (MI) transition leads to another maximum resistivity near 241 K, where the corresponding temperature is MI transition temperature (T MI ). Moreover, the resistivity of LaMnO 3 exhibits a decline as the external magnetic field being increased, implying the presence of MR. In the region of low temperature (close to the T MI ), the negative MR reaches 14.68 and 45.28% under 1 T and 4 T applied fields, respectively. The coexistence of two kinds of MR mechanisms in LaMnO 3 induced by spin polarization tunneling and Jahn–Teller distortion leads to the enhanced MR within the wide temperature range (10–265 K).

The catalytic removal of toluene, a representative aromatic volatile organic compound (VOC), requires efficient and stable catalysts. This study systematically investigated the effect of B-site doping with transition metals (Fe, Cu, and Ni) on the catalytic performance of LaMnO3perovskite for toluene oxidation. The LaMn0.5X0.5O3catalysts were synthesized via a sol–gel method and evaluated. The LaMn0.5Ni0.5O3catalysts exhibited the optimal catalytic performance, achieving toluene conversion temperatures of 243 °C at 50% conversion (T50) and 296 °C at 90% conversion (T90). Comprehensive characterization revealed that Ni doping effectively refined the catalyst’s microstructure (grain size decreased to 19.21 nm), increased the concentration of surface-active oxygen species (142.7%), elevated the Mn4+/Mn3+ratio to 0.65, and enhanced lattice oxygen mobility. These modifications collectively contributed to its outstanding catalytic activity. The findings demonstrate that targeted B-site doping, particularly with Ni, is a promising strategy for engineering efficient perovskite catalysts for VOC abatement.

A series of perovskite-type LaMnO 3 (LMO) electrocatalysts (LMO-4, LMO-6, and LMO-8) with different oxygen contents (δ) has been successfully prepared by regulating the sintering temperature and time under nitrogen vs. air atmosphere sintered sample (LMO-0). We investigated the effects of microstructural features such as oxygen vacancies, adsorbed oxygen (O ads ), δ value, Mn 3+ /Mn 4+ ratio, and Mn-O bond lengths on their magnetic performance and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity and its intrinsic correlation mechanism. The nitrogen induces crystal structure transition from tripartite phase (LMO-0) to orthorhombic phase and increases the adsorbed oxygen (O ads ) content with the variation of annealing conditions. LMO-0 with a high δ-value and high Mn 4+ ratio exhibits a predominantly Mn 3+ -O-Mn 4+ ferromagnetic double-exchange interaction. Among the samples, LMO-0 exhibits the optimal OER activity with the lowest apparent kinetic slope and charge transfer resistance, which is attributed to its highest Mn 4+ ratio, oxygen vacancy content, and most significant electrochemically active area.

Novel Mn 3 O 4 - LaMnO 3 composite ceramics have been successfully designed by the Pechini sol-gel routine, ceramics were calcined at 1450 °C for 12 h in air, and the electrical properties of its negative temperature coefficient at room temperature (300K) were investigated. X-ray diffraction and SEM results indicate that all the samples consist of two phases, LaMnO 3 and Mn 3 O 4 , and illustrate highly crystalline quality. The electrical transport measurements show that the temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) vs . temperature of the composite presents a ‘U’ shape at wide-temperature-range(188–350K), which is beneficial for the performance of practical devices. Low resistivity ρ and TCR revealed for pure LaMnO 3 , While TCR and room temperature range were increased with the addition of Mn 3 O 4 phase into LaMnO 3 . Enhanced electrical properties with moderate resistivity ρ make it a prominent and potential candidate to be utilized in portable, uncooled bolometer.

A LaMnO 3 -based hydrogel evaporator with interfacial evaporation and photocatalytic degradation capabilities was fabricated. • The evaporator possesses a high porosity of 97.64%, while still demonstrating excellent mechanical properties. • The evaporator achieves 95.89% efficiency and 2.585 kg m −2 h −1 evaporation rate, with excellent salt resistance. Solar-driven interfacial evaporation technology is regarded as an economical and sustainable novel desalination solution due to its low energy consumption, high photothermal conversion efficiency, and environmentally friendly characteristics. However, existing solar evaporation systems still face challenges such as limited evaporation flux, single functionality, and insufficient long-term salt resistance when dealing with complex water qualities. Here, we propose an innovative dual-functional evaporator by embedding LaMnO 3 (LMO) nanofibers with broad-spectrum light absorption and high specific surface area into a porous hydrogel skeleton, successfully constructing an LMO-based composite porous hydrogel (LMO-PH-3) evaporator. The evaporator exhibits a high porosity of 97.64%, achieving an evaporation rate of 2.585 kg m −2 h −1 and a photothermal conversion efficiency of 95.89% under 1-sun illumination. Even in a high-salinity environment of 25 wt%, its evaporation rate remains at 2.045 kg m −2 h −1 , demonstrating excellent salt resistance. Furthermore, the LMO-PH-3 evaporator achieved a degradation rate of 82.7% for methylene blue, validating its efficient wastewater purification capability. The LMO-PH-3 bifunctional evaporator developed in this study through material design and structural regulation realizes highly efficient synergy between photothermal evaporation and photocatalytic degradation, providing a novel strategy for constructing solar-driven integrated evaporation-purification systems. Coupling oxygen-defect chemistry with charge-transfer dynamics in perovskite catalysts for formaldehyde (HCHO) photocatalytic abatement under mild conditions remains challenging. Herein, a continuous series of LaMn 1-x Co x O 3 perovskites was synthesized via a facile Pechini method to elucidate the role of B-site Co substitution in visible-light-driven HCHO oxidation. The optimal composition, LaMn 0.67 Co 0.33 O 3 (LMCO-2), achieves ∼95% degradation of 100 ppm HCHO within 15 min (0.198 min −1 ). Comprehensive characterizations attribute this superior performance to a Co-induced defect-charge synergy, encompassing the proliferation of vacancy-associated surface oxygen species, enhanced oxygen mobility, improved low-temperature reducibility, a narrowed band gap, and accelerated charge separation. Mechanistic investigations reveal that photogenerated holes (h + ) and singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) act as dominant oxidative species, while superoxide radicals (∙O 2 − ) serve as crucial intermediate precursors. Furthermore, in situ DRIFTS confirms a stepwise oxidation pathway involving dioxymethylene and formate intermediates prior to ultimate mineralization into CO 2 and H 2 O. Graphical Optimized Co substitution endows LaMn 1-x Co x O 3 with enriched oxygen vacancies, a narrowed band gap, and efficient charge separation, enabling h + / 1 O 2 -driven HCHO oxidation with 95% removal within 15 min.

This study aimed to construct a perovskite LaMnO 3+δ (LMO) with abundant oxygen vacancies (OVs) by an electrochemical approach at different potentials and figure out the role of OVs in peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation. All modified samples achieved superior PMS activation activity than LMO (0.49 min −1 ) towards Rhodamine B (RhB) removal, LMO + 2 with more OVs showed the best performance (1.21 min −1 ). OVs regulated the Mn 3+ /Mn 4+ redox cycle and increased active sites, triggering RhB oxidation in LMO + 2/PMS system via a 1 O 2 -dominated nonradical pathway. These results suggest that perovskites efficiently enriched OVs through an electrochemical strategy and regulated activating PMS towards 1 O 2 -dominated oxidation.
