Infectious bone defect is a condition where infection and bone defect occur simultaneously. The simultaneous achievement of effective antimicrobial management and enhanced bone regeneration continues to present a major hurdle in musculoskeletal therapeutics. To address these limitations, we have developed a novel osteoconductive material, this material (PDA@Mg-MOF-LEV) consists of Magnesium-based metal-organic frameworks (Mg-MOF) particles loaded with the antibiotic levofloxacin (LEV) and coated with polydopamine (PDA), which integrates photothermal therapy with antibiotic delivery to combat bacterial drug resistance and facilitate bone tissue regeneration. Under near-infrared (NIR) irradiation, PDA@Mg-MOF-LEV particles demonstrate superior antibacterial efficacy and enhanced osteogenic potential. Drug release studies indicate that NIR irradiation significantly increases LEV release by 337% and Mg ions release by 196% compared to standard conditions. Furthermore, in vitro antibacterial assays confirm that NIR irradiation markedly enhances the antibacterial activity of PDA@Mg-MOF-LEV particles, achieving inhibition rates of 97.5 ± 1.45% against Escherichia coli ( E. coli ) and 98.5 ± 2.27% against Staphylococcus aureus ( S. aureus ). The photothermal therapy mediated by NIR irradiation not only enhances antibacterial efficacy but also directly stimulates osteogenic differentiation and calcium deposition in mBMSCs, positioning PDA@Mg-MOF-LEV as a multi-modal therapeutic platform for infective osteogenesis.

Composite biomaterial systems facilitate regenerative medicine through component synergy. Herein, novel core–shell nanocomposites (N-HMMs) are prepared, with hollow mesoporous silica (HMSNs) as the core and magnesium-gallic acid metal–organic frameworks (Mg-MOFs) as the shell. N-HMMs are loaded with the small-molecule osteoinductive drug naringin (Nar) to form N-HMMs@Nar, which is integrated into methacrylate gelatin/polyethylene glycol diacrylate hydrogels (GelMA/PEGDA, GP) to construct N-HMMs@Nar@GP. N-HMMs@Nar@GP enables sustained release of Nar, bioactive Mg2+, and antioxidant gallic acid for synergistic anti-inflammation, osteogenesis, and angiogenesis of bone regeneration. GP adapts N-HMMs@Nar to the traumatic characteristics of bone defects and facilitates in situ treatments. In vitro studies have confirmed the composite materials’ biocompatibility, osteoinductive differentiation, and angiogenesis capabilities. The ability of N-HMMs@Nar@GP to enhance osteogenesis and angiogenesis is demonstrated in an in vivo tibial defect model using micro-CT and histopathological analysis. Therefore, N-HMMs@Nar@GP holds significant potential for application in the repair of bone defects.

Novel linker-based La-containing Mg-MOF synthesized for phosphate removal. • Hexagonal rod-like La-containing Mg-MOF provides abundant active adsorption sites. • Ultrahigh phosphate adsorption capacity (448.59 mg g −1 ) via Langmuir model. • La-containing Mg-MOF shows high stability and strong anion resistance. • DFT and polynomial regression-based study of phosphate adsorption. A porous hexagonal rod-like La-containing Mg-MOF was rationally designed and fabricated via a controlled hydrothermal route to achieve efficient phosphate removal from aqueous media. The introduction of La 3+ and Mg 2+ generated a La-containing Mg-MOF with enhanced surface reactivity and abundant adsorption sites. Structural and surface characterization using FTIR, SEM-EDS, BET, and XPS suggested the successful formation of the La-containing Mg-MOF, its mesoporous architecture, and effective integration of both metal sites. Adsorption experiments demonstrated high phosphate uptake, strong selectivity, and stable performance over a broad pH range and in the presence of competing anions. Kinetic analysis indicated that the adsorption process followed pseudo second-order behavior, suggesting surface site-controlled adsorption. Thermodynamic evaluation revealed that phosphate adsorption was spontaneous, endothermic, and entropy-driven. Isotherm modeling showed excellent agreement with the Langmuir model, yielding adsorption capacity of 448.59 mg g −1 . Mechanistic insights derived from density functional theory calculation, FTIR and XPS analyses revealed that phosphate removal occurred through a synergistic combination of outer sphere electrostatic interactions and inner-sphere complexation involving ligand exchange and coordination with La-containing active sites. Furthermore, polynomial regression fitting models were applied to investigate the quantitative relationships between phosphate adsorption capacity and experimental parameters such as pH, initial concentration, contact time, adsorbent dosage, and solution volume, achieving R 2 values above 0.98. These results demonstrate La-containing Mg-MOF are highly promising candidates as next-generation adsorbents for efficient phosphate removal in water treatment systems. A novel Mg-based defect-modified composite material (MOF-Mg(OH) 2 -HP) was prepared using MOF as a precursor, featuring a unique layered structure with abundant oxygen defects and delocalized electrons on its surface. • MOF-Mg(OH) 2 -HP can be activated by natural light, generating a large amount of reactive species through the “light-Fenton-like” pathway. Superoxide radicals (·O 2 − ) and holes (h + ) are the primary reactive species, which simultaneously oxidize non-reactive organophosphorus compounds and recover orthophosphate (achieving a 100% phosphorus removal rate within 90 min). • It demonstrates exceptional multifunctionality in actual aquaculture wastewater, effectively eliminating 92.84% of Escherichia coli and 98.69% of Chlorella pyrenoidosa , providing a green synergistic solution for integrated water purification and resource recovery strategies. The low-cost and harmless treatment of dairy wastewater is a focal point in agricultural development today. This study innovatively utilizes hydrogen peroxide to modify Mg-MOF-derived oxides, preparing a series of hydrogen peroxide-modified composite materials rich in defects. For the first time, an integrally formed composite material consisting of Mg(OH) 2 with O 2 2− on the outside and MgO on the inside is synthesized. Compared to modified materials prepared using commercially available MgO as the raw material, this material possesses unique Mg(OH) 2 /MgO heterojunctions, a larger specific surface area, abundant oxygen defects, and higher active oxygen content. Starting from the current issues of poor universality, high energy consumption, and difficulties in simultaneous harmless treatment of wastewater in organic phosphorus oxidation materials, we designed an efficient degradation of various organic phosphorus compounds and resource recovery of orthophosphorus using sunlight. This is mainly achieved through the synergistic effect of surface O 2 2− hydrolysis (Fenton-like pathway) and the generation of oxidizing active species through photoexcitation at oxygen vacancies (photocatalytic pathway), resulting in efficient degradation of organic phosphorus and simultaneous recovery (with a removal rate of 100% in 90 min). This material is the first to demonstrate the ability to simultaneously kill 92.84% of Escherichia coli and 98.69% of Chlorella pyrenoidosa during phosphorus removal, proposing a novel collaborative solution for green recovery and harmless treatment of pollutants. In this work, a novel bimetallic Fe–Mg/MOF was synthesized through a cost-effective and rapid hydrothermal process. The structure, morphology, and composition were examined using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Further, the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) measurement showed a 324 m2 g−1 surface area for Fe–Mg/MOF. The Fe–Mg/MOF achieved 1825 C g−1 capacity at 1.2 A g−1 current density, which is higher than simple Fe-MOF (1144 C g−1) and Mg-MOF (1401 C g−1). To assess the long-term stability of the asymmetric device, the bimetallic MOF supercapattery underwent 1000 charge/discharge cycles and retained 85% of its initial capacity. The energy and power densities were calculated to be 57 W h kg−1 and 2393 W kg−1, respectively. Additionally, Fe–Mg/MOF showed superior electrocatalytic performance in hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) by demonstrating a smaller Tafel slope of 51.43 mV dec−1. Our research lays the foundation for enhancing the efficiency of energy storage technologies, paving the way for more sustainable and robust energy solutions.

Carbon capture utilization and storage for reducing anthropogenic CO 2 emissions involve capturing CO 2 from industrial sources and injecting it into geological sinks such as oil reservoirs and depleted gas fields. To ensure environmental and public safety during carbon sequestration implementation, efficient CO 2 monitoring technologies must be developed to detect potential leaks at sequestration sites. Traditional CO 2 sensors used for monitoring these sites typically feature high costs and require specialized personnel for maintenance. This paper innovatively employs an immersion method to construct a surface acoustic wave (SAW) CO 2 sensor based on a polyethyleneimine-coated magnesium metal-organic framework (PEI@Mg-MOF-74) nanocomposite film. The PEI@Mg-MOF-74 SAW sensor exhibits ultra-high sensitivity across a CO 2 concentration range of 500–6000 ppm, with rapid response and recovery times of 11 s/6 s. Additionally, the sensor demonstrates excellent repeatability, selectivity, and long-term stability. Simultaneously, a graphene oxide/ Carboxymethyl Cellulose surface acoustic wave (SAW) humidity sensor was developed to address humidity-related issues. It exhibits ultra-high sensitivity of 14.29 kHz/% RH across a relative humidity range of 11–97% RH, coupled with rapid response and recovery times of 4 s/5 s. The SAW-based CO 2 sensor incorporates humidity compensation through the CSA-AdamW-CapsNet algorithm, and a wireless testing system based on the microcontroller was developed to enable wireless CO 2 and relative humidity measurement. This research provides theoretical foundations and technical prototypes for developing next-generation passive wireless smart sensing systems, holding significant application value in fields such as carbon dioxide capture and sequestration.
