It’s a hurry to introduce a lightweight and high-efficiency microwave absorption material that is easy to synthesize, since the electromagnetic interference pollution is getting increasingly serious. Carbon-based microwave absorption material based on bimetallic metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) gets high conductivity and good magnetism at the same time, and thus can be regarded as an efficient microwave absorber with lightweight. Herein, we introduce an easy method to compose bimetallic carbon-based microwave absorbers based on ZIF-67. By changing the proportion of Fe 3+ and Co 2+ , not only the magnetism of the material can be adjusted, the amount of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and so as the dielectric property of the material can also be regulated. The method of introducing precursors at room temperature and then calcinating at an Ar atmosphere is simple to repeat and appropriate for mass production. When the dosage molar ratio of Co 2+ : Fe 3+ is 3: 2, the minimum reflection loss ( RL min ) can reach − 24.83 dB while the effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) can reach 5.14 GHz when the thickness is 1.7 mm, under a 30 wt% filling loading. We believe that this work can provide a reliable method to introduce carbon-based microwave absorption material based on bimetallic MOF materials.

Electro catalysts play a vital role in facilitating the reaction process in the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) of fuel cells. In methanol fuel cells, methanol easily penetrates the diaphragm rendering the ORR catalyst inactive. Although commercial platinum exhibits excellent ORR catalytic activity, its poor methanol resistance and long-time durability severely restrict its sustainable development and application. This work synthesized Ti 4 O 7 /CNT nanocomposite electrocatalysts by using the sol-gel method followed by high-temperature carbothermal reduction. The obtained catalysts exhibit a large electrochemically active surface area (347.89 cm 2 ) and low interfacial charge transfer resistance (64.5 Ω). The reduction potential (0.73 V), onset potential (0.93 V), half-wave potential (0.73 V), and electron transfer number (3.7) of this electrocatalyst are all close to those of the Pt/C electrocatalysts in alkaline medium. Simultaneously, it also possesses remarkable methanol tolerance and long-term durability, whose relative current density can maintain above 74% after cycling for 24 h.

In this experimental study, a highly sensitive electrochemical acetylcholinesterase (AChE) biosensor for the detection of organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) based on three-dimensional α-Fe 2 O 3 nanoflowers decorated with Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) and carbon nanotube (CNTs) (α-Fe 2 O 3 NFs-AuNPs-CNTs) was developed. With the blooms structure, the α-Fe 2 O 3 NFs not only provided an excellent microenvironment for the loading of AChE, but also increased the contact specific surface area. Meanwhile, AuNPs dispersed uniformly on the α-Fe 2 O 3 nanosheets and CNTs further enhanced the conductivity of the nanocomposites. Under the optimized conditions, the biosensor was made to exhibit favorable linear relationship with the logarithm of the concentration of omethoate from 1 × 10 −13 -1 × 10 −7 M, with the detection limit of 1.9 × 10 −15 M. In addition, the biosensor also possessed good repeatability, stability and practicality, proved to be a valuable tool for the detection of pesticides in environment.

Transition-metal nanoparticles (NPs) can catalytically improve the hydrogen desorption/absorption kinetics of MgH 2 , yet this catalysis could be enhanced further by supporting NPs on carbon-based matrix materials . In this work, Co NPs with a uniform size of 10 nm loaded on carbon nanotubes (Co@CNTs) were synthesized in situ by carbonizing zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67). The novel Co@CNTs nanocatalyst was subsequently doped into MgH 2 to remarkably improve its hydrogen storage properties. The MgH 2 -Co@CNTs starts to obviously release hydrogen at 267.8 °C, displaying complete release of hydrogen at the capacity of 6.89 wt% at 300 °C within 15 min. For absorption, the MgH 2 -Co@CNTs uptakes 6.15 wt% H 2 at 250 °C within 2 min. Moreover, both improved hydrogen capacity and enhanced reaction kinetics of MgH 2 -Co@CNTs can be well preserved during the 10 cycles, which confirms the excellent cycling hydrogen storage performances. Based on XRD , TEM and EDS results, the catalytic mechanism of MgH 2 -Co@CNTs can be ascribed to the synergetic effects of reversible phase transformation of Mg 2 Co to Mg 2 CoH 5 , and physical transformation of CNTs to carbon pieces. It is demonstrated that phase transformation of Mg 2 Co/Mg 2 CoH 5 can act as “hydrogen gateway” to catalytically accelerate the de/rehydrogenation kinetics of MgH 2 . Meanwhile, the carbon pieces coated on the surfaces of MgH 2 particles not only offer diffusion channels for hydrogen atoms but also prevent aggregation of MgH 2 NPs, resulting in the fast reaction rate and excellent cycling hydrogen storage properties of MgH 2 -Co@CNTs system.

SiO x is proposed as one of the most promising high-performance anodes for its favorable capacity and stable lithium insertion/extraction electric potential, however its effective commercial application still faces giant challenge. To overcome poor electrical conductivity and huge volume effect of silicon oxide-based material, we adopt a valid strategy to synthesis the SiO x nanosphere double-wrapped by MoS 2 and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as anode material. The influences of MoS 2 and CNTs on the structure, morphology and electrochemical performances of nanohybrid are probed detailly by transmission electron microscopy , X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and charge-discharge measurements. The results show that as-prepared nanohybrids release a steady reversible capacity of 798 mAh g −1 with high capacity retention of 81.4% at 500 mA g −1 after 300 cycles. The outstanding electrochemical properties can be ascribed to the facts that the hollow mesoporous structure affords ample buffer space and the introduction of MoS 2 with a two-dimensional layered structure can provide more exposed active-sites for lithium adsorption, as well as the CNTs wrapping can form a favorable conductivity matrix, endowing the nanocomposites with great structural stability. Accordingly, this new structure design by means of a heterogeneous dual-wrapped architecture develops a significant strategy for the development of high-performance SiO x -based anode materials.

Fe-Ni bimetallic nanoparticles supported on CNTs (Fe-Ni/CNTs) were synthesized, characterized, and applied for removal of 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) in aqueous solution. The removal performance was enhanced drastically on Fe-Ni/CNTs with respect to monometallic Fe/CNTs. The synergistic effect between Fe-Ni nanoparticles and CNTs has been studied in detail. The research results indicated that the doping of Ni played an important role in promoting the catalytic degradation of 2,4-DCP. And the presence of CNTs not only could effectively reduce the aggregation of nanoparticles but also facilitate the mass transfer of 2,4-DCP and the formation of active atomic hydrogen during the catalytic process. In addition, the removal kinetics of 2,4-DCP by Fe-Ni/CNTs were in agreement with a pseudo-first-order model, and the rate constants were dependent on a number of factors including the initial concentration of 2,4-DCP, the dosage of Fe-Ni/CNTs, pH value of the solution, and doping amount of Ni. The degradation mechanism involved the adsorption by CNTs and catalytic reduction by Fe under the stimulating of Ni, and the preferred dechlorination followed the order of para-Cl > ortho-Cl. The study confirmed that Fe-Ni/CNTs had a potential to be a promising catalytic material for removal of chlorophenol and had a great prospect for practical application.

Various transition metals have been incorporated into nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes (M-N-C/CNT, M = Fe, Co, Mn, and Ni) via a one-pot method using dopamine as nitrogen source and metal salts as precursors for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Raman spectra and XRD patterns of the catalysts were collected to characterize the graphitization degree and metal state. XPS was employed to determine atom state and element fraction. The electrochemical performance of the catalysts for ORR were evaluated in alkaline media at −0.8 V to 0.2 V. The E onset and E 1/2 with the values of −100 mV and −170 mV (vs Ag/AgCl) are achieved on Mn-N-C/CNT-800. The superior selectivity toward the 4e − pathway are obtained on Mn-N-C/CNT-800 and Co-N-C/CNT-800 with the transferred electron numbers per O 2 molecule of 4.12 and 3.94, respectively. Results show that the states of doped transition metal play a key role on determining ORR performance. The electron transfer number of Ni-N-C/CNT at −0.5 V is increased from 3.22 (Ni-N-C/CNT-800) to 3.99 (Ni-N-C/CNT-600) when the metallic Ni has been eliminated at lower pyrolysis temperature.

Efficient and robust oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalysts are essential for the development of high-performance anion-exchange membrane fuel cells (AEMFC). To enhance the electrochemical performance of metal–organic frameworks of cobalt-based zeolite imidazolium skeleton (ZIF-67), this study reported a novel ZIF-67-4@CNT by in situ growing carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on the surface of ZIF-67 via a mild two-step pyrolysis/oxidation treatment. The electrochemical results showed that the as-prepared ZIF-67-4@CNT after CTAB modification exhibited excellent catalytic activity with good stability, with Eonset, E1/2, and Ilimit, respectively were 0.98 V (versus RHE), 0.87 V (versus RHE) and 6.04 mA cm−2@1600 rpm, and a current retention rate of about 94.21% after polarized at 0.80 V for 10 000 s, which were all superior to that of the commercial 20 wt% Pt/C. The excellent ORR catalytic performance was mainly attributed to the large amount of the in situ growing CNTs on the surface, encapsulated with a wide range of valence states of metallic cobalt.

Mg/MgH 2 stands out as an excellent hydrogen storage material due to its abundant presence and its capacity for high hydrogen storage density. However, the sluggish hydrogenation/dehydrogenation kinetics make it unsuitable for solid-state hydrogen storage. To tackle these challenges, the MgH 2 -Co@Pd‑c arbon nanotubes composite was created through ball milling , and its hydrogenation/dehydrogenation behavior was examined. The inclusion of Co@Pd notably enhanced the kinetics of hydrogenation/dehydrogenation in Mg/MgH 2 . The Mg-Co@Pd‑c arbon nanotubes composite achieved an absorption of 7.30 wt% H 2 in just 8 h of milling. The study proposed an energy conversion model to investigate the enhanced properties of Mg/MgH 2 . The addition of Co@Pd substantially reduced the activation energy (Ea) for hydrogen desorption to 81.9 kJ/mol. Furthermore, Transmission Electron Microscope and Density Functional Theory simulations were employed to understand how Co@Pd enhances the properties of Mg/MgH 2 . The improved hydriding/dehydriding kinetics of Mg/MgH 2 are likely closely linked to both the confining impact of c arbon nanotubes and the synergistic interplay of the “spillover” and “hydrogen pump” effects facilitated by the Co@Pd bimetallic catalysts . The excellent hydriding/dehydriding behavior is ascribed to the electron spillover and the phase transformation of Mg 2 Co/Mg 2 CoH 5 and Mg 6 Pd/Pd. These findings offer new insights into the new insights into the rational design of Co@Pd bimetallic catalysts, which are expected to be an optimal solution for supported catalysts in Mg-based solid-state hydrogen storage systems.

An aluminum-ion asymmetric supercapacitor was assembled utilizing a cathode made of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in an ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([EMIm]Cl)-based electrolyte. Two types of energy-storage mechanisms, that is, electrochemical double-layer capacitance (adsorption/desorption of AlCl 4 − on the surface) and limited intercalation pseudocapacitance (intercalation/deintercalation of AlCl 4 − in the graphite layer) at low current density, were observed and characterized. Meanwhile, the specific capacitance and cyclic stability of this supercapacitor were also evaluated by using galvanostatically charging–discharging. The result demonstrates that the specific capacitance decreases with increasing current density, which corresponds to the two types of energy-storage mechanisms of this device. The corresponding retention rate of this device after 3500 cycles at current density of 0.4 A g −1 was 82.4 %, which shows good cyclic stability.

Structural properties of active material play a fundamental role in determining electrochemical performance of sodium-ion battery anodes. In this work, SnS 2 /CNTs hybrids feature with different nanostructures (2D nanosheets and 3D self-assembled flowers) were synthesized through a facile time-dependent solvothermal approach. Meanwhile, the sodium storage performances of these hybrids were evaluated, and the structural-associated effects in term of diffusion coefficient and cycling stability were briefly discussed. Electrochemical tests reveal that 2D hybrid with ultrathin SnS 2 sheets acquired both improved electrons and Na + diffusion kinetics. As a result, enhanced cycling performance, cycling stability and rate capability were obtained. At a current density of 50 mA g −1 , the 2D hybrid electrode could deliver a discharge capacity of 476.3 mAh g −1 after 100 cycles, which is 31.3% higher than that of 3D hybrid electrode. Even at 3200 mA g −1 , a discharge capacity of 265.5 mAh g −1 still could be maintained for 2D hybrid electrode. Therefore, the as-prepared 2D SnS 2 /CNTs hybrid exhibits great prospect for application in SIBs anodes.

In this work, we develop an effective strategy to synthesize porous peanut-like ZnCo 2 O 4 (ZCO) decorated with graphene/Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as an effective anode material for long cycling life lithium storage via a facile solvothermal process and rapid cold-quenching method. SEM and TEM characterizations show that graphene and CNTs serving as the elastic support and superior conductive network wrap the porous peanut-like ZCO, which can enhance electrochemical performance. The as-prepared ZnCo 2 O 4 /reduce graphene oxide/carbon nanotubes (ZCO/rGO/CNTs) delivers an initial discharge capacity of 1214.1 mAh g −1 at a current density of 500 mA g −1 and exhibits a high discharge capacity (1026.6 mAh g −1 after 200 cycles) when evaluated as anode materials of LIBs. More interestingly, the reversible capacity of the ZCO/rGO/CNTs even retains 728.6 mAh g −1 after 300 cycles even at a high current density of 1000 mA g −1 . The good cycling capability, high rate performance and reliable electrode adaptability suggest that the ZCO/rGO/CNTs will be an attractive material for lithium ion batteries.
