Hollow CuS microflowers anchored porous carbon composites as lightweight and broadband microwave absorber with flame-retardant and thermal stealth functions

Xiang Zhang,Lei Cai,Zhen Xiang,Wei Lu

At present, the development of lightweight and wideband microwave absorbing materials with stable infrared stealth property and adaptable to complex environments has become the key to multi-modal stealth technology . Herein, hollow CuS microflowers were self-assembled on biomass-derived porous carbon in situ to realize the multifunctions of microwave absorption, flame retardance and thermal stealth. The multicomponent synergistic effect combined with unique microarchitecture triggered the multiple polarization effects , multiple reflection and scattering as well as conduction loss in the PC@CuS composite. As a result, the PC 800 @CuS sample exhibited an optimal RL min of −61.5 dB and an exceptionally wide EAB of 7.8 GHz with the filling ratio of only 10%. In addition, the PC@CuS composite also exhibited superior flame-retardant properties by virtue of its distinctive porous structure . Meanwhile, the uniform distribution of CuS particles played a vital role in enhancing the overall infrared absorption efficiency, thereby obtaining stable and highly-effective infrared stealth performance comparable to commercial products. This work shed light on the development of high-efficiency MAs with multifunctions in a facile and low-cost manner.

Full-spectrum light-driven phase change microcapsules modified by CuS-GO nanoconverter for enhancing solar energy conversion and storage capability

Xiaoyue Fan,Xiaolin Qiu,Lixin Lu,Binglin Zhou

Due to the low direct thermal effect of solar irradiation , conventional phase-change microcapsules have poor solar energy utilization capability. To increase the solar-to-thermal energy storage efficiency, in this work, we reported a light-driven microencapsulated n-eicosane based on a crystalline TiO 2 shell coated by graphene oxide (GO)-based copper monosulfide (CuS) (CuS-GO) nanoconverter. Due to the combination of local surface plasma resonance (LSPR), semiconductor and synergetic effects, the CuS-GO nanoconverter conferred full-spectrum solar light-to-thermal conversion capability on the microcapsule system. The resultant n-eicosane@TiO 2 @CuS-GO microcapsules achieved high full-spectrum solar-to-thermal storage efficiency (97.1%) under stimulated solar light with no compromise of the latent heat density (212.0 ± 1.2 J/g). Furthermore, the thermal conductivity of n-eicosane@TiO 2 @CuS-GO (0.985 ± 0.004 W/(m·K)) significantly increased by 39.9% compared with that of n-eicosane@TiO 2 . These results indicate that this light-driven microcapsule with superior properties is advantageous for direct solar-to-thermal energy utilization applications.

Controlled synthesis of upconverting nanoparticles/CuS yolk–shell nanoparticles for in vitro synergistic photothermal and photodynamic therapy of cancer cells

Chen-Xi Huang,Hua-Jian Chen,Fei Li,Wan-Ni Wang,Dong-Dong Li,Xian-Zhu Yang,Zhao-Hua Miao,Zheng-Bao Zha,Yang Lu,Hai-Sheng Qian

Synergistic photodynamic and photothermal therapy of cancer cells is of considerable scientific and technological interest. In this work, we demonstrate a sacrificial template strategy to fabricate yolk–shell nanoparticles combining upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) and CuS nanoparticles. Lanthanide-doped upconversion nanoparticles of NaYF4:30% Yb,1% Nd,0.5% Er@NaYF4:20% Nd (also denoted as UCNPs) have been prepared as 808 nm light excited remote-controlled nanotransducers for in vitro cancer cell treatment. The upconversion fluorescence of the as-prepared UCNPs@CuS yolk–shell nanoparticles is completely quenched under the excitation of an 808 nm laser, which demonstrates that the energy transfer between the UCNPs and CuS is very efficient. In addition, the as-prepared UCNPs@CuS nanoparticles show higher production ability for hydroxyl radicals (˙OH) and singlet oxygen (1O2) compared to CuS hollow nanospheres of similar size. In particular, the excited shell layer (CuS) showed an enhanced photothermal effect while producing reactive oxygen species (ROS) including singlet oxygen (1O2) and hydroxyl radicals (˙OH) after being exposed to near infrared (NIR) light. Thus, the as-prepared UCNPs@CuS yolk–shell nanoparticles exhibited the synergistic effect of photothermal and photodynamic therapy of cancer cells, which resulted in significant cell death after exposure to an 808 nm laser. The synthetic strategy will provide an alternative method to fabricate other UCNP based core–shell nanoparticles for potential and important applications in bionanotechnology including theranostics, multimodal treatment, magnetic resonance imaging-guided photodynamic therapy, etc.

Heterojunction of CuS/MnS Employed with Multiwalled Carbon Nanotubes in Molecularly Imprinted Sensor for Selective and Sensitive Determination of Trichlorfon Residual

Li Zhang,Qian Zhao,Xinman Tu,Xinjie Yang,Xinding Lv,Shuiying Xiong

The abuse of trichlorfon leading a threat to human health through the food chain, it is great important to establish a selective and sensitive determination method for trichlorfon residual. Herein, a functional molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensor was constructed using CuS/MnS heterojunction and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). CuS/MnS possesses a highly efficient electron transfer capacity via ion exchange interactions at a given potential, resulting in a favorable signal response. Meanwhile, the signal transmitting efficiency was further promoted by the large specific surface area of MWCNTs. In the preparation of electrochemical sensor, the CuS/MnS was modified on the electrode surface with MWCNTs, and covered by molecularly imprinted layer. The sensor was first incubated into an indicator solution containing potassium ferricyanide, producing a distinct initial signal. Once the target was present, it was identified and captured by the imprinted cavity, which blocked the electron pathway, and the potassium ferricyanide signal subsequently reduced with a measurable level. Under the optimized conditions, the two-stage linear ranges were 1.0–10 and 10–100 nM, with a detection limit of 0.37 nM. In contrast to other complex electrochemical beacons, this work induced heterojunctions and MWCNTs to obtain a satisfactory result via synergistic effect. Furthermore, the recovery rates of 93.70%–105.18% in the real sample assays suggest a prospective application of the proposed sensor in monitoring of pesticide residuals.

Ultra-high payload of doxorubicin and pH-responsive drug release in CuS nanocages for a combination of chemotherapy and photothermal therapy

Yang Wang,Yun Xiao,Hangyu Zhou,Wei Chen,Ruikang Tang

A novel versatile system combining chemotherapy and photothermal therapy for cancer cells using CuS NCs is reported. CuS NCs were synthesized by a solid–liquid reaction between Cu2O nanocubes and thiourea. While the hollow nanocage can be used to load anticancer drugs for chemotherapy, the CuS can convert NIR light into heat for photothermal therapy. More importantly, CuS NCs display exceptionally high drug loading capacity of DOX with 500 wt% and release of DOX is pH-controllable, which is a spontaneous process under intracellular conditions. Compared with chemotherapy or photothermal therapy alone, the combination of chemotherapy and phototherapy can significantly improve the therapeutic efficacy. This improvement strategy using multifunctional nanomaterials may be particularly useful in biomedical applications.

Interface Engineering Triggered Electron Transfer Channels and Enhanced p–p Orbital Coupling: Boosting CO2 Electroreduction to Formate Over Heterostructured CuS@SnO2

Jiaqi Li,Hainan Wu,Tinghui An,Yuhao Wang,Dong Xiang,Nan Wang,Kedi Cai

Tin dioxide (SnO 2 ) has been demonstrated to convert CO 2 to formate in an electrocatalytic CO 2 reduction reaction (eCO 2 RR). However, suboptimal CO 2 activation and insufficient electrical conductivity pose formidable challenges to achieving desirable eCO 2 RR activity. Herein, a heterostructured CuS@SnO 2 catalyst was designed to realize efficient formate production in eCO 2 RR, which delivers a Faraday efficiency (FE) of 94.9% and partial current density of 243.5 mA cm −2 at −1.1 V versus RHE in alkaline conditions, coupled with excellent electrochemical stability. Systematic investigations reveal that CuS acts as an electron reservoir, and the directional electron transfer channels induce interfacial electron deficiency in SnO 2 , stabilizing Sn active sites during long-term eCO 2 RR operation. Furthermore, it confers dual effects for promoting formate conversion at the molecular level, which integrates optimized interface electronic structure and enhanced p–p orbital coupling between the key * OCHO intermediate and SnO 2 interface, rendering the enhanced * OCHO adsorption, decreased CO 2 hydrogenation energy barrier, and improved intrinsic formate activity. Beyond catalytic performance, CuS@SnO 2 was further utilized in a Li-CO 2 battery to enable integrated CO 2 conversion and energy storage functionality. This study provides a strategy to effectively regulate the formate selectivity of eCO 2 RR by heterointerface engineering, and meanwhile bridges rational catalyst design with practical CO 2 conversion technologies.

Construction of a CuS/Ti₃C₂/rGO composite interface with a synergistic catalysis−conduction−protection effect for non−enzymatic glucose sensing

Zhou Siliao,Zhou Wangdong,Zhou Jiahui,Liu Jing,Wei Yan

Developing sensing interfaces that simultaneously integrate catalytic activity, efficient charge transfer, and structural stability remains a major challenge for high-performance non-enzymatic glucose sensing. Herein, a CuS/Ti₃C₂/rGO ternary composite was fabricated through a combination of liquid-phase precipitation and self-assembly. Structural, surface, and electrochemical studies revealed that the enhanced sensing performance originated from the synergistic integration of catalytic CuS, conductive Ti₃C₂, and rGO-assisted structural protection. Under optimized conditions, the sensor exhibited a fast response time of 3.7 s, a wide linear range of 0.01–10.35 mM, and a low detection limit of 3.33 µM (S/ N  = 3). In addition, satisfactory selectivity, stability, repeatability, and reproducibility were achieved. Recoveries of 98.1–105.0% were obtained in commercial oral liquids and fruit juice samples, demonstrating good analytical reliability in complex matrices. These findings indicate that the proposed catalysis-conduction-protection strategy provides an effective design principle for constructing high-performance non-enzymatic glucose sensing interfaces.

A CuS/Ag/Pt@ICG/DOX nanoplatform with cascaded nanozyme catalysis for tumor microenvironment remodeling and synergistic photodynamic/photothermal/chemodynamic therapy

Wen-Qi Zhu,Dong Cheng,Lin-Song Li,Peng-Wei Chen,Bang-Bang Liu,Mei-Xia Zhao

This work introduces the rational design of a hierarchically structured, multi-enzyme integrated therapeutic platform, referred to as HCuS/Ag/Pt/ICG/DOX (CAPID). The platform is constructed by depositing dual-enzyme-active Ag/Pt on copper sulfide nanoparticles (CuS NPs) to remodel the tumor microenvironment (TME), followed by loading indocyanine green (ICG) as a near-infrared (NIR) fluorophore and doxorubicin (DOX) as a chemotherapeutic payload. The CAPID platform utilizes catalase to decompose H 2 O 2 into oxygen (O 2 ), which synergizes with endogenous H 2 O 2 to initiate a Fenton-like reaction, generating cytotoxic hydroxyl radicals (·OH). The redox cycling between Cu 2 + ions and intracellular thiols depletes GSH, amplifying oxidative stress cascades. NIR irradiation achieved 88.9 % tumor inhibition via spatiotemporal tri-therapy (chemo/PDT/PTT) synergy, thereby addressing the limitations of monotherapy through nanoplatform engineering.

Composite phase change materials with carbon-mesh/CuS/ZnO interface biocarbon skeleton for solar energy storage, solar photocatalysis and electromagnetic shielding

Zhangxinyu Zhou,Yaoqi Huang,Qiang Shen,Yuanyuan Li,Xiaomin Cheng

The significant importance of developing phase change materials (PCMs) lies in their capability to meet diverse usage needs, particularly in the sphere of solar energy utilization. In this work, a thermal storage substrate was formed by adsorbing stearic acid in a biocarbon skeleton via vacuum impregnation. A composite PCM with multifunctional properties was subsequently synthesized by modifying the carbon mesh with copper sulfide (CuS) and zinc oxide (ZnO), compounding it onto the surface of the heat storage substrate. The biocarbon skeleton possesses a well-graded pore structure , which offers a significant number of channels for efficient heat transfer and effective electromagnetic shielding . The composite PCM retained a latent heat exceeding 155 J·g −1 . The integration of the biocarbon skeleton and modified carbon mesh led to a remarkable 119.42 % enhancement in thermal conductivity within the composite system , as compared to pure stearic acid. Furthermore, granular ZnO and nanoflower-like CuS are effectively integrated on the surface of the carbon mesh, facilitating the formation of localized surface heterojunctions . The composite system exhibits excellent broad-spectrum light absorption capability, producing a significantly elevated photothermal conversion efficiency of 88.93 %. Moreover, the semiconductor effect contributes to a remarkable degradation efficiency of 99.33 % for methylene blue . Significantly, the composite material demonstrates exceptional electromagnetic shielding capability, yielding a total shielding effectiveness exceeding 40 dB. The composite system also demonstrated outstanding thermal and cycling stability, with a negligible latent heat loss of merely 1.9 % even after undergoing 500 thermal cycles. This work proposes a pragmatic methodology to accomplish the functional integration of PCMs.

Composite of CoS1.97 nanoparticles decorated CuS hollow cubes with rGO as thin film electrode for high-performance all solid flexible supercapacitors

Zhihan Yang,Maozhuang Zhang,Yawen Liu,Mingyuan Jiang,Yuesheng Sun,Jianhua Wang,Jiangtao Xu,Jingquan Liu

Stretchable flexible thin-film electrodes are extensively explored for developing new wearable energy storage devices. However, traditional carbon-based materials used in such independent electrodes have limited practical applications owing to their low energy storage capacity and energy density. To address this, a unique structure and remarkable mechanical stability thin-film flexible positive electrode comprising CoS 1.97 nanoparticles decorated hollow CuS cubes and reduced graphene oxide (rGO), hereinafter referred to as CCSrGO, is prepared. Transition metal sulfide CoS 1.97 and CuS shows high energy density owing to the synergistic effects of its active components. The electrode can simultaneously meet the high-energy density and safety requirements of new wearable energy storage devices. The electrode has excellent electrochemical performance (1380 F/g at 1 A/g) and ideal capacitance retention (93.8 % after 10,000 cycles) owing to its unique three-dimensional hollow structure and polymetallic synergies between copper and cobalt elements, which are attributed to their different energy storage mechanisms. Furthermore, a flexible asymmetric supercapacitor (FASC) was constructed using CCSrGO as the positive electrode and rGO as the negative electrode (CCSrGO//rGO), which delivers an energy density of 100 Wh kg −1 and a corresponding power density of 2663 W kg −1 within a voltage window of 0–1.5 V. The resulting FASC can power a light-emitting diode (LED) at different bending and twisting angles, exerting little effect on the capacitance. Therefore, the prepared CCSrGO//rGO FASC devices show great application prospects in energy storage.

Near-infrared-responsive GE11-CuS@Gal nanoparticles as an intelligent drug release system for targeting therapy against oral squamous cell carcinoma

Qinghua Lan,Shuanghu Wang,Zhouming Chen,Junyan Hua,Jieru Hu,Songmei Luo,Yanyan Xu

Galangin (Gal) is a natural plant flavonoid. More and more evidence shows that Gal can achieve anti-tumor effects by regulating various mechanisms. However, its poor water solubility, low bioavailability, and insufficient lesion targeting limit its clinical application. To overcome these shortcomings, we designed and developed a mesoporous nanosystem (GE11-CuS) that actively located the target area and photo-controlled drug release, which promoted the rapid accumulation of drugs in tumor tissues under NIR irradiation, thus achieving positive effects against cancer. In this study, we explored the application of the Gal-loaded nanometer system (GE11-CuS@Gal) in the treatment of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) both in vitro and in vivo. The results exhibited that GE11-CuS@Gal had excellent targeting ability and could accumulate efficiently in tumor cells (HSC-3). Meanwhile, the temperature of GE11-CuS@Gal increasing rapidly under NIR illumination damaged the integrity of the carrier and allowed Gal molecules to escape from the pores of the nanoparticles. When the accumulation of Gal in the nidus reached a certain level, the intracellular ROS level could be significantly increased and the antioxidative stress pathway mediated by Nrf2/OH-1 was effectively blocked, to inhibit the growth and migration of tumors. In conclusion, the GE11-CuS improved the antitumor activity of Gal in the body, which laid a foundation for the treatment of OSCC with traditional Chinese medicine ingredients.

CuS@TA-Fe Nanoparticle-Doped Multifunctional Hydrogel with Peroxide-Like Properties and Photothermal Properties for Synergistic Antimicrobial Repair of Infected Wounds

Xiaohu Zhou,Tiantian Chen,Tengda Ma,Lizhao Yan,Haojie Wei,Shuang Liu,Zhiyin Dai,Zhizhong Xie,Jun Deng,Shengxiang Tao,Lihong Fan,Yingying Chu

Bacterial infection is a critical factor in wound healing. Due to the abuse of antibiotics, some pathogenic bacteria have developed resistance. Thus, there is an urgent need to develop a non-antibiotic-dependent multifunctional wound dressing for the treatment of bacteria-infected wounds. In this work, a multifunctional AOCuT hydrogel embedded with CuS@TA-Fe nanoparticles (NPs) through Schiff base reaction between gelatin quaternary ammonium salt – gallic acid (O-Gel-Ga) and sodium dialdehyde alginate (ADA) along with electrostatic interactions with CuS@TA-Fe NPs is prepared. These composite hydrogels possess favorable injectability, rapid shape adaptation, electrical conductivity, photothermal antimicrobial activity, and biocompatibility. Additionally, the doped NPs not only impart fast self-healing properties and excellent adhesion performance to the hydrogels, but also provide excellent peroxide-like properties, enabling them to scavenge free radicals and exhibit anti-inflammatory and antioxidant capabilities via photothermal (PTT) and photodynamic (PDT) effects. In an S. aureus infected wound model, the composite hydrogel effectively reduces the expression level of wound inflammatory factors and accelerates collagen deposition, epithelial tissue, and vascular regeneration, thereby promoting wound healing. This safe and synergistic therapeutic system holds great promise for clinical applications in the treatment of infectious wounds.
