The NH 2 -MIL-125 (NM-125) or modified NM-125 materials are used for photocatalytic removal of nitric oxide (NO). Most researchers attributed few NO 2 emission during NO photocatalysis to high selectivity towards the formation of nitrate ions due to the neglect of the principle of electroneutrality and pore structure of NM-125. This may cause misleading photocatalytic mechanism of NO removal. Herein, this work proposes a new mechanism behind NO removal using NM-125 based on experimental investigations and theoretical calculations. First, experimentally, the highest NO removal efficiency of 88.54 % with negligible NO 2 emission occurs at the anhydrous condition. In addition, in-situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) measurements verify the presence and accumulation of NO 2 as product during photocatalytic conversion of NO. Furthermore, density functional theory (DFT) calculations and grand canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) computations demonstrate that there exist strong interactions between NO 2 and -NH 2 group within pores. Few NO 2 is detected during experiments is probably due to its subsequent adsorption in the pores of NM-125. The new NO removal mechanism including photocatalytic conversion NO into NO 2 and subsequent NO 2 adsorption in the pores of NM-125 is thus proposed. This work provides a deeper insight into photocatalytic NO removal over NM-125 and its variants.

Photocathodic protection has obtained enormous attention in the field of metal corrosion control as an efficient and eco-friendly technology. Developing the photoelectrode with good photoelectrochemical properties is a prerequisite for achieving satisfactory photocathodic protection performance. Here, the NH 2 -MIL-101(Cr)/TiO 2 heterostructures are prepared. Meanwhile, the organic linkers and metal ions from NH 2 -MIL-101(Cr) are used to synthesize the N- and Cr-doped TiO 2 anodes, respectively. The UV–vis DRS, photoluminescence spectra and photoelectrochemical tests conducted under visible light demonstrate the enhanced light absorption, suppressed photoinduced charge carrier recombination, and accelerated separation and transfer rates of photoinduced electron-hole pairs in the TiO 2 composites. The 304 stainless steel connected with NH 2 -MIL-101(Cr)/TiO 2 heterostructures shows the most negative potential (about −0.72 V vs. SCE) and satisfied stability in a 3.5 wt% NaCl solution. The result can be explained by the significantly enhanced optical and photoelectrochemical properties and the strong electric field intensity in the composite heterojunctions. Besides, it has been observed that the NH 2 -MIL-101(Cr)/TiO 2 heterostructures exhibit the best photocathodic protection performance than Cr and N-doped TiO 2 anodes. This research broadens the application scope of MOFs in corrosion resistance and helps to assess the effect of heterostructure construction and element doping on TiO 2 .

Novel type of micro mesoporous materials Co-doped NH 2 -UiO-66 had been successfully prepared. The properties of the material were understood through a series of characterization. When the dosage of Zr:Co is 2:1, the modified material showed specific surface area of 840.02 m 2 ∙g −1 , which is larger than the material without Co. Especially, the material was transformed from microporous NH 2 -UiO-66 to micro-mesoporous Co-doped NH 2 -UiO-66 through the adjustment of metal Co. The Co-doped nanocomposite was then applied to the adsorption of oxytetracycline. The effects of initial concentration, pH, humic acid and ionic strength on the adsorption were investigated. It was found that 50 mg∙L −1 oxytetracycline can be effectively adsorbed by Co-doped NH 2 -UiO-66 in pH 7. Further research showed that adsorption was pseudo-second-order kinetics and fitted Freundlich model with the maximum adsorption capacity 223.7 mg∙g −1 . In addition, the adsorption equilibrium time was only 2 h, which is shorter than the adsorption time of most adsorbents. The mechanism of pore adsorption, π-π interaction, hydrogen bonds and electrostatic interactions was deeply discussed. In conclusion, Co-doped NH 2 -UiO-66 was a fast and effective absorbent for the removal of oxytetracycline in aqueous solution.

Nitrite is a commonly used food preservative and a water contaminant that has garnered significant attention due to its harmful effects on human health. Developing a simple and sensitive method for determining nitrite levels is crucial for safeguarding public health. In this paper, we present a novel ratiometric fluorescent nanosensor (CDs@UiO-66-NH 2 ), created by combining orange-red-emitting CDs with blue-emitting UiO-66-NH 2 . This ratiometric probe detects nitrite ions (NO 2 − ) based on the diazotization reaction between the amino group in UiO-66-NH 2 and the target NO 2 − , where the blue emission of UiO-66-NH 2 is quenched but the orange-red emission of CDs remains stable. The probe demonstrated a detection range of 0.5–20 μM with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.157 μM for NO 2 − . Due to the probe’s distinct color changes in response to NO 2 − , RGB values can be easily read using a smartphone, enabling ultrasensitive visual detection of NO 2 − with an LOD of 0.76 μM. This sensor was successfully applied to detect NO 2 − in environmental water samples. Finally, a smartphone-based RGB reading method using CDs@UiO-66-NH 2 for visual quantitative detection of NO 2 − was proposed, broadening the application of CDs@UiO-66-NH 2 in environmental protection.

Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a severe inflammatory condition with a rising incidence and high mortality rates, especially in severe cases. Emodin (ED), known for its potent anti-inflammatory properties, holds promise in addressing AP. However, its clinical application is hindered by limitations such as low bioavailability and insufficient target specificity. Herein, we developed a novel drug delivery system using macrophage membrane-coated UiO-66-NH 2 nanoparticles loaded with ED (MVs-UiO-ED). UiO-66-NH 2 was successfully synthesized and characterized, revealing an octahedral structure with a suitable size distribution. The successful loading of ED onto UiO-66-NH 2 was confirmed by ultraviolet and infrared spectroscopy. Subsequently, MVs-UiO-ED was prepared by coating macrophage membrane-derived vesicles onto UiO-ED, resulting in a biomimetic delivery system. In vitro release studies demonstrated that MVs-UiO-ED exhibited a sustained-release profile, indicating its potential for prolonged drug circulation. An AP mouse model was established to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of MVs-UiO-ED. Compared with the model group, MVs-UiO-ED significantly reduced serum levels of α-amylase and lipase, two indicators of pancreatitis severity. Furthermore, histopathological examinations revealed that MVs-UiO-ED ameliorated pancreatic tissue damage. This study underscores the potential of MVs-UiO-ED as an effective therapeutic approach for AP.

Multifunctional nanomaterials with task-specific physicochemical properties, especially core–shell nanostructures with Fe 3 O 4 core and NH 2 -functional shells (Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 –NH 2 ), have been extensively investigated as high-performance adsorbents, catalysts and catalyst supports; and in most cases the controllable sol–gel technique is the choice for fabrication of this kind of widely applied materials. Herein, we demonstrated that mono-dispersed and spherical Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 –NH 2 nanomaterials with magnetic response core, NH 2 -functional shell structure can be facilely prepared by co-condensation of TEOS with APTMS using a versatile sol–gel process. It was shown that the proper usage of APTMS and appropriate pre-hydrolysis time of TEOS were crucial and key steps for formation of highly uniform and desirable amino loading Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 –NH 2 materials. The TEOS pre-hydrolysis and the critical time (around 90 min) before the addition of APTMS prove to be vital for uniform structure evolution, while the appropriate concentration of APTMS (~2.28 mmol L −1 in our system) leads to well-dispersed materials with relatively high loading of amino functionality. The as-prepared Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 –NH 2 magnetic nanoparticles prepared under optimum conditions possessing superparamagnetic behavior, uniform core–shell structure (~200 nm in diameter), relatively large BET surface area (~138 m 2 /g) and high incorporation of amino-functionality (~2.90 wt %).

Lysine (Lys) is an essential nutrient that plays a crucial role in the growth and development of living organisms. Chiral analysis of Lys holds significant importance for ensuring the safety of food, pharmaceuticals, and health products. In this work, an achiral Zr-based metal organic frameworks (MOFs), UiO-66-NH 2 , was proposed as a fluorescent probe to achieve rapid response to l -lysine (L-Lys) in solution. Additionally, Zr 4+ in the skeleton of UiO-66-NH 2 framework exhibited different binding capacities towards Lys enantiomers, leading to distinct fluorescence responses for L-Lys and d -lysine (D-Lys). Leveraging these properties, the UiO-66-NH 2 probe enabled accurate determination of L-Lys concentrations in solution, as well as the enantiomeric excess (ee) values of Lys solutions. Notably, in the detection of Lys enantiomers, the achiral UiO-66-NH 2 acted as both a chiral selector and a fluorescent indicator, greatly improving the efficiency and stability of the detection system. The probable mechanism was further elucidated by pH titration experiments and density functional theory calculations. Additionally, the general applicability of this mechanism was validated by similar amino MOFs. The application of the UiO-66-NH 2 fluorescent probe in analysis of infant formula milk powders and liquid milk samples confirmed the reliability of the method. Moreover, the construction of fluorescence test paper by immobilizing UiO-66-NH 2 onto filler papers enabled the rapid identification of Lys enantiomers. Compared to previous fluorescent analyses of chiral amino acids assisted by additional metal ions, this study presented a novel approach and methodology that offers high efficiency, stability, reproducibility and reusability for the identification and detection of Lys enantiomers, highlighting the potential of the UiO-66-NH 2 fluorescent probe in advancing analytical techniques.

UiO–66–NH 2 (Ti/Zr) modified by Ti metal oxide (TiO 2 ) was used to catalyze the hydrolysis of cellulose to prepare 5-HMF. Under the optimal reaction conditions of H 2 O(NaCl)/THF(1/4 mL), 190 °C, 2 h and 50 mg UNT-3(Ti/Zr) (TiO 2 and UiO–66–NH 2 with mass of 1.5 and 0.1 g, respectively), the yield of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural reached 59.88%. UiO–66–NH 2 (Ti/Zr) nanocomposites with different mass ratios were successfully prepared by simple solvent evaporation method. SEM and TEM have shown that the modified UiO–66–NH 2 (Ti/Zr) are wrapped into sphere by TiO 2 densely attached to the surface of UiO–66–NH 2 , which provides favorable conditions for the uniform dispersion of TiO 2 and coordination of the Lewis acidic site of UiO–66–NH 2 . NH 3 –TPD results confirmed the existence of super-strong, strong, middle and weak acid sites in UiO–66–NH 2 (Ti/Zr), and Py-FTIR confirmed the existence of Brønsted and Lewis acids. After four cycles, the yield of 5-HMF and FUR decreased slightly from 59.88 to 51.89% and 9.11 to 7.66%, respectively, and the yield of 5-HMF could still remain above 50%. The results showed that the modified composite treatment of TiO 2 with rich Lewis acid/base and UiO–66–NH 2 could provide a certain idea for the extensive application of biomass research in the future. This study employed a solvothermal method to prepare an NH 2 -MIL-101(Fe, Co) bimetallic organic framework composite catalyst aimed at enhancing the photocatalytic reduction performance of Cr(VI). The experimental results show that introducing Co into the single-metal NH 2 -MIL-101(Fe) does not alter the material's octahedral structure. However, the bimetallic synergistic effect shifts the light absorption range to the red end of the spectrum, reduces the bandgap, and significantly improves carrier separation efficiency. Under visible light irradiation, the NH 2 -MIL-101(Fe, 0.15Co) catalyst exhibited outstanding photocatalytic performance, achieving a reduction efficiency of 94.7% for Cr(VI) within 40 minutes and 100% within 50 minutes, with a reaction rate constant 4.7 times that of the single-metal NH 2 -MIL-101(Fe). Free radical capture experiments further revealed that ·O 2 - is the key active species in the Cr(VI) reduction process, while photo-generated holes in the valence band can oxidise OH - to ·OH, synergistically participating in the reaction. Additionally, cyclic stability experiments showed that the catalyst maintained 85.8% reduction efficiency after five cycles, demonstrating excellent stability and practical application potential.

Mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) have emerged as promising materials for hydrogen separation, combining the processability of polymers with enhanced permeability and selectivity offered by inorganic fillers. However, challenges such as filler aggregation and poor polymer-filler interfacial compatibility limit their performance. In this study, amino-modified bimetallic ZIF (Zn/Co-ZIF-NH 2 ) was synthesized and employed as a novel nanofiller to fabricate 6FDA-DAM-based MMMs, aiming to improve interfacial compatibility between the filler and the polymer matrix. The incorporation of Co 2+ ions into ZIF-8-NH 2 introduced a synergistic effect, optimizing the balance between the rigidity and flexibility of metal-to-ligand bond linkage, while amino groups promoted robust interfacial interactions with the polymer matrix. Compared to the pure polymeric membrane, the MMMs incorporating 40 wt% MOF exhibited a significant enhancement in gas permeability, with H 2 permeability rising from 750 to 3273 Barrer and CO 2 permeability increasing from 840 to 2733 Barrer, corresponding to improvements of 336.4 % and 225 %, respectively. Simultaneously, H 2 /CH 4 and CO 2 /CH 4 selectivities increased to 33.7 and 28.1, representing improvements of 88.3 % and 41 % over the pristine polymer. These performance metrics exceed the 2008 Robeson upper bounds, demonstrating the effectiveness of Zn/Co-ZIF-NH 2 nanofillers in overcoming the permeability–selectivity trade-off. This study underscores the effectiveness of amino-modified bimetallic MOFs as advanced fillers for high-performance MMMs, particularly suited for hydrogen purification and CO 2 separation applications.

Cancer treatment techniques often struggle to simultaneously address the issues of significant impact from cancer heterogeneity, poor resistance to drugs, and non-selective drug toxicity. Therefore, cancer treatment strategies based on nanoplatforms with multiple responsive properties have attracted wide attention due to their broad applicability and minimal side effects on normal cells. Herein, we constructed a nano iron-based metal–organic framework loading Pt and coated with polydopamine (Fe-MOF-NH 2 @Pt@PDA) using the solvothermal method for multimodal cancer therapy. The Pt and Fe could leverage the unique weak acidity and overexpression of hydrogen peroxide in the tumor cell to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) for chemodynamic therapy (CDT). Additionally, Pt and Fe gave its peroxidase-like activity to produce oxygen, improving the hypoxic environment in the tumor microenvironment. Due to Pt, Fe-MOF-NH 2 @Pt@PDA achieved excellent sonodynamic therapy (SDT) under ultrasound (US) stimulation. Under US, more ROS were generated, enhancing the anticancer effect of CDT. Moreover, Fe-MOF-NH 2 @Pt@PDA produced an excellent photothermal effect under 808 nm near-infrared (NIR) irradiation for photothermal therapy (PTT). Furthermore, Fe-MOF-NH 2 @Pt@PDA exhibited good biocompatibility. Taken together, the nano Fe-MOF-NH 2 @Pt@PDA with synergistic CDT, SDT, and PTT combined treatment was a promising biomaterial for non-invasive clinical cancer therapy.
