Eu 2+ -activated phosphors are prominent candidates for next-generation solid-state lighting, but their performance is often limited by incomplete Eu 3+ reduction and poor thermal stability. Herein, we present a universal strategy combining a two-step synthesis with charge compensation to simultaneously stabilize Eu 2+ centers and suppress parasitic Eu 3+ . Initially, M 2 SiO 4 :Eu 2+ ( Pnma ) precursors were synthesized to promote effective Eu 2+ incorporation. Subsequent P 5+ co-doping induces charge-compensated substitution (Si 4+ →P 5+ ). This structural evolution yields the target phosphor phases: the yellow-emitting Li 2 SrSi 0.96 P 0.04 O 4 :Eu 2+ ( P 3 1 21) and the green-emitting Li 2 BaSi 0.96 P 0.04 O 4 :Eu 2+ ( P 6 3 cm ) with excitation/emission maxima at 394/580 and 365/520 nm, respectively. Importantly, the heterovalent substitution facilitates the Eu 3+ →Eu 2+ reduction and optimizes the defect distribution. Consequently, the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) is significantly enhanced from 26% to 78% for Li 2 SrSi 0.96 P 0.04 O 4 :Eu 2+ and from 32% to 83% for Li 2 BaSi 0.96 P 0.04 O 4 :Eu 2+ , along with improved thermal stability (93.3%@450 K). Fabricated near-UV pumped white light-emitting diodes (LEDs) incorporating these phosphors demonstrate superior color rendering ( Ra = 91.1) and stable electroluminescence across varying currents. The robust Eu 2+ stabilization and charge compensation paradigm paves the way for rational design of high-performance phosphors for advanced lighting.

The hydrogenation of CO 2 to methanol is a promising strategy for renewable carbon utilization, where indium oxide loaded zirconia catalysts have been extensively studied. However, the influence of monoclinic zirconia (m-ZrO 2 ) support size on the structure-activity relationship remains insufficiently understood. Here, we systematically investigate the size effect of m-ZrO 2 supports on the structure, surface chemistry, and catalytic performance of In 2 O 3 /m-ZrO 2 catalysts. Comprehensive characterizations reveal that an optimal ZrO 2 grain size (∼13 nm) is associated with strengthened In 2 O 3 -ZrO 2 interaction and an increased concentration of thermally induced oxygen vacancies. In-situ DRIFTS confirms a formate-mediated pathway and enhanced formate intermediates conversion. Consequently, 5 %In/Zr-600 exhibits the highest methanol yield (0.43 g MeOH g cat −1 h −1 ). In comparison, smaller supports suppress methanol selectivity due to weak interfacial interaction, while larger supports promote In 2 O 3 crystallization and cause surface area loss, limiting activity and stability. These findings provide insight into how support grain size influences metal oxide and support interactions and catalytic behavior within the In 2 O 3 /m-ZrO 2 system.

The dielectric response of carbon-based single-atom (SA) absorbers is intrinsically constrained by the highly symmetric charge distribution of planar M-N 4 coordination motifs, which suppresses dipole polarization and limits electromagnetic wave (EMW) attenuation. Here, a nanocurvature-driven symmetry-breaking strategy is proposed to activate latent dielectric polarization at SA sites through geometric regulation. By combining click chemistry with template-assisted synthesis, metal SAs are anchored onto hollow nitrogen-doped carbon spheres with precisely tunable diameters, enabling systematic modulation of local nanocurvature. Theoretical calculations and experimental analyses reveal that curvature-induced surface charge accumulation disrupts the electronic symmetry at Ni-N 4 centers, markedly enhancing local charge density, dipole moments, and polarizability. Consequently, the optimized Ni/HNC-200 absorber achieves an ultralow minimum reflection loss of −74.1 dB, representing a staggering 390% enhancement over HNC-200 (−15.1 dB), and exhibits a reduced radar cross section of −70.49 dB m 2 . A flexible electronic patch further demonstrates over fivefold suppression of electric-field radiation from mobile phone chips. The universality of this mechanism is validated in Co- and Cu-based systems, establishing nanocurvature as a geometry-enabled design paradigm for high-performance SAs EMW absorbers.

High-entropy (HE) engineering presents a promising approach to optimizing the electromagnetic (EM) properties of MXenes for enhanced microwave absorption. In this study, a series of tunable configurational entropy MXenes Ti 2 CT x (MC-1), (Ti 1 / 2 V 1 / 2 ) 2 CT x (MC-2), (Ti 1 / 3 V 1 / 3 Nb 1 / 3 ) 2 CT x (MC-3), (Ti 1 / 4 V 1 / 4 Nb 1 / 4 Ta 1 / 4 ) 2 CT x (MC-4), and (Ti 1 / 5 V 1 / 5 Nb 1 / 5 Hf 1 / 5 Ta 1 / 5 ) 2 CT x (MC-5) are synthesized via selective etching and intercalation of their corresponding MAX phases. The structural and morphological characterization confirms the successful formation of accordion-like high-entropy MXenes. The electromagnetic evaluations demonstrate a significant enhancement in absorption performance corresponding to the increase in M-site entropy. The MXenes MC-4 and MC-5 also exhibit remarkably high performance, achieving minimum reflection losses (RL min ) of −48.5 dB at 8.56 GHz (2.85 mm) and −50.7 dB at 17.04 GHz (4.58 mm), along with effective absorption bandwidths (EAB) of 3.68 GHz and 1.92 GHz, respectively, surpassing their lower-entropy counterparts. Their superior stealth capabilities are further validated through radar cross section (RCS) simulations, which reveal that MC-4 and MC-5 coatings maintained RCS values below −20 dBm 2 across a broad angular spectrum (−60 to 60°), significantly outperforming a perfect electric conductor (PEC) baseline. This performance enhancement is essentially attributed to the entropy-mediated optimization of electromagnetic parameters, which improves impedance matching alongside intensified polarization loss resulting from lattice defects and interfaces. This study confirms that high-entropy design is an effective strategy for advancing high-performance wideband MXene absorbers, holding significant potential for applications in stealth and communication technologies.

This study designed and evaluated a chitosan nanoparticle-based mucosal vaccine (CS-CKS9-MEV-DCpep-NPs) targeting M cells and dendritic cells against Brucella . From four immunogenic outer membrane proteins (OMP10, Omp25, Omp31, BtpB), 41 specific epitope peptides were screened and optimized via bioinformatics and ELISPOT for high antigenicity and safety. The dual-targeting strategy uses CKS9 to enhance M cell-mediated antigen uptake and DCpep, together with CS-NPs, to activate DCs and promote their maturation. This coordinates cDC1, cDC2, and pDC subsets, inducing CD8⁺ and CD4⁺ T cell responses and strengthening Th1-biased immunity against intracellular bacteria. The vaccine activates mucosal (sIgA), humoral (IL-21, memory B cells), and cellular (Th1/CTL, central memory T cells) immunity. It significantly reduces bacterial load and tissue damage, offering comprehensive protection. Compared with conventional vaccines, this oral nanovaccine provides high safety, precise targeting, and multi-dimensional immune activation, representing a novel strategy for brucellosis control. Thermal and mechanical properties of yttrium tantalate (YTaO 4 ), a top coat ceramic of thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) for aeroengines, are enhanced by synthesizing Y 1− x Ta 1− x M 2 x O 4 (M = Ti, Zr, Hf; x = 0.06, 0.12, 0.18, 0.24) medium-entropy ceramics (MECs) using a two-step sintering method. In addition, the thermal conductivity, thermal expansion coefficients (TECs), and fracture toughness of MECs were investigated. An X-ray diffraction study revealed that the Y 1− x Ta 1− x M 2 x O 4 MECs were monoclinic, and the Ti, Zr, and Hf doping elements replaced Y and Ta. The variations in atomic weights and ionic radii led to disturbed atomic arrangements and severe lattice distortions, resulting in improving the phonon scattering and reduced thermal conductivity, with Y 1− x Ta 1− x M 2 x O 4 MECs ( x = 0.24) exhibiting the lowest thermal conductivity of 1.23 W·m −1 ·K −1 at 900°C. The introduction of MO 2 increased the configurational entropy and weakened the ionic bonding energy, obtaining high TECs (10.4 × 10 −6 K −1 at 1400°C). The reduction in the monoclinic angle β lowered the ferroelastic domain inversion energy barrier. Moreover, microcracks and crack extension toughening endowed Y 1− x Ta 1− x M 2 x O 4 MECs ( x = 0.24) with the highest fracture toughness of (4.1 ± 0.5) MPa·m 1/2 . The simultaneous improvement of the thermal and mechanical properties of the MO 2 (M = Ti, Zr, Hf) co-doped YTaO 4 MECs can be extended to other materials.

The widespread use of p -chloro- m -xylenol (PCMX) as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent raises concerns about its ecological risks in ecosystems. While prior studies focused on activated sludge systems, the impacts of PCMX on marine systems remain unknown. Here, we systematically investigated the responses of marine sediment communities to PCMX (0.005–50 mg/L) exposure through integrated enzymatic assays, multi-omics, and enrichment culture approaches. High PCMX exposure (50 mg/L) significantly suppressed dehydrogenase (63.8%) and protease (53.8%) activity, reduced microbial diversity, and inhibited nutrient cycling and ATP production. Meanwhile, antibiotic resistance genes associated with efflux pumps were enriched. Metagenomic analysis revealed upregulated aromatic degradation pathways and stress-response mechanisms (e.g., chemotaxis and biofilm formation) under PCMX stress. A halotolerant marine consortium enriched from high-PCMX sediments demonstrated efficient PCMX degradation (50 mg/L, 72 h) across broad salinity (1.5–5.5% NaCl) and temperature (25–40°C) ranges, with metabolite profiling suggesting ortho -cleavage pathways. This work underscores the need for regulatory measures to mitigate the ecological risks posed by PCMX in marine ecosystems, while simultaneously demonstrating the remediation potential of a halotolerant microbial consortium for remediating contaminated environments. Environmental Implications The ubiquitous discharge of PCMX poses an underregulated yet critical threat to ecosystems. Elevated concentrations of PCMX trigger cascading ecological perturbations, including the suppression of enzymatic activities, reduction in microbial diversity, selective enrichment of antibiotic resistance genes, and disruption of carbon/nitrogen cycling as well as energy production in marine sediment systems. Importantly, the developed microbial consortium demonstrates robust PCMX degradation efficacy across fluctuating conditions, facilitating scalable in situ bioremediation. Collectively, these findings highlight the urgent need for regulations on PCMX discharge, systematic ecotoxicity monitoring, and the advancement of nature-based solutions to enhance coastal ecosystem resilience.

Background Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC), characterized by its aggressive clinical behavior and propensity for distant metastasis, presents critical challenges in therapeutic management. Emerging evidence implicates lipid metabolic reprogramming as a key facilitator of tumor progression and metastatic dissemination. However, the precise molecular mechanisms underlying lipid metabolic dysregulation in TNBC metastasis remain poorly characterized. Our work systematically elucidates the mechanistic role of ALDH3A2 in orchestrating lipid metabolic adaptations that drive breast cancer metastasis. Methods Transcriptomic analysis of clinical datasets identified metastasis-related metabolic regulators. Cellular migration/invasion assays and murine metastasis models were utilized to assess metastatic effects of ALDH3A2. Lipidomic profiling coupled with pathway analysis characterized metabolic alterations. Mechanistic studies integrated western blot analysis with lipid droplet quantification. Computational approaches including structure-based virtual screening and molecular docking simulations were employed for inhibitor discovery. Results ALDH3A2 was significantly upregulated in TNBC clinical specimens and showed significant association with adverse clinical outcomes. Functional validation confirmed that ALDH3A2 potentiates TNBC cell migration/invasion through epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) activation. Metabolic profiling revealed ALDH3A2-driven lipid accumulation, evidenced by increased lipid droplet formation and elevated triglyceride levels. Specifically, arachidonic acid (AA) enrichment was observed in ALDH3A2-overexpressing cells, corresponding to enhanced glycerophospholipid metabolism. Mechanistic studies demonstrated that ALDH3A2-mediated AMP/ATP imbalance suppresses AMPK phosphorylation while activating mTOR/SREBP1 signaling. mTOR inhibition effectively attenuated ALDH3A2-induced lipid metabolic alterations. Importantly, oxaliplatin was identified as a potential therapeutic agent targeting ALDH3A2-mediated AA metabolism to suppress metastasis. Conclusions Our work establishes ALDH3A2 as a pivotal regulator of lipid metabolic reprogramming in TNBC metastasis, providing mechanistic insights into AA-mediated tumor progression. These findings position ALDH3A2 as a promising therapeutic target and prognostic biomarker for TNBC management.

Introduction: Current management of canine mammary tumors (CMTs) remains reliant on surgical resection and chemotherapy. However, these strategies are often limited by high recurrence rates and systemic toxicity. Addressing these limitations requires urgent development of safer and more effective therapeutics. Pseudolaric acid B (PAB), a bioactive compound extracted from the roots of the Pseudolarix kaempferi Gord., has garnered attention for its broad-spectrum antitumor activity and favorable pharmacokinetic profile, and it has shown promise in inhibiting the growth of a variety of tumors, including breast cancer. The aim of this study was to investigate the anticancer effects of PAB on canine mammary tumor U27 cells and its underlying mechanisms. Methods and results: In vitro analyses demonstrated that PAB dose dependently reduced cell viability, suppressed cell proliferation, and triggered caspase-mediated apoptosis. Transcriptomic profiling of PAB-treated tumor cells revealed significant enrichment of differentially expressed genes in pathways such as gap junction, cell cycle, and cellular senescence. Mechanistically, CDK1 suppression by PAB, achieved through binding that diminishes its expression and stability, induced G2/M phase arrest and halted mitotic progression. While these findings suggest the potential of PAB as a candidate for canine mammary tumor treatment, further investigations are warranted to delineate its precise in vivo targeting specificity and pharmacodynamic interactions.Discussion: These findings not only expand the translational applicability of PAB in veterinary oncology but also identify CDK1 as a potential therapeutic vulnerability for combinatorial treatment strategies in CMTs.

High-quality few-layer M 4 C 3 T x (M = V, Nb, Ta) MXenes are very important for applications and are necessary for clarifying their physicochemical properties. However, the difficulty in etching for themselves and the existence of MC/MC 1−δ and M-Al alloy impurities in their M 4 AlC 3 precursors seriously hinder the achievement of defect-free few-layer M 4 C 3 T x (M = V, Nb, Ta) MXenes nanosheets. Herein, three different defect-free few-layer M 4 C 3 T x (M = V, Nb, Ta) nanosheets are obtained by using a universal synthesis strategy of calcination, selective etching, intercalation, and exfoliation. Comprehensive characterizations confirm their defect-free few-layer structure feature, large interlayer spacing (1.702–1.955 nm), types of functional groups (–OH, –F, –O), and abundant valance states (M 5+ , M 4+ , M 3+ , M 2+ , M 0 ). M 4 C 3 T x (M = V, Nb, Ta) free-standing films obtained by vacuum filtration of few-layer M 4 C 3 T x inks show good hydrophilia, high thermostability, and conductivity. A roadmap on synthesis of defect-free few-layer M 4 C 3 T x (M = V, Nb, Ta) nanosheets are proposed and three key points are summarized. This work provides detailed guidelines for the synthesis of other defect-free few-layer MXenes nanosheets, but also will stimulate extensive functional explorations for M 4 C 3 T x (M = V, Nb, Ta) MXenes nanosheets in the future.

The unique interface synergistic catalytic properties for metal oxide-supported catalysts have long been explored in several critical heterogeneous catalytic processes (e.g., CO oxidation reactions). However, interfacial synergistic catalysis is still a hitherto undescribed mechanism due to the lack of direct evidence at the atomic level. Thereinto, the CuO x -supported CeO 2 (CuO x /CeO 2 ) catalyst is a typical case. Herein, a combination study including representative theoretical calculations, in situ DRIFTS spectra and tailored molecular probe experiments supports a new carbonate-interface mediated Mars-van Krevelen (M−vK) mechanism for CO oxidation, i.e., CO molecules form carbonate intermediate species directly between spatial proximity (2.99 Å) double lattice oxygen sites with low oxygen vacancies formation energy (E form O v = 0.82 eV/0.83 eV) at the copper−ceria interface. The reaction energy barrier of this process is 0.32 eV, much lower than the 1.23 eV of the conventional M−vK mechanism. Besides, the spatial effect of double oxygen vacancies (O v ) generated by the depletion of intermediate carbonate species promotes the sustained and dynamic activation of O 2 , hence facilitating the efficient operation of the M−vK mechanism at low temperatures.

BaFe 12− x Nb x O 19 ( x = 0.00, 0.04, 0.08, 0.12, 0.16, and 0.20) with a nominal composition for M-type hexagonal barium ferrite was prepared using solid-state sintering methods. The microstructure and magnetic properties of hexaferrite were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and vibrating-sample magnetometry (VSM). XRD results revealed that the crystal structure of barium ferrite remained intact after Nb doping, maintaining a single barium ferrite phase. FESEM confirmed the hexagonal crystal structure of the sample. Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy showed increased Nb content and decreased Fe content without the formation of other elements. FTIR revealed bands at 598 and 445 cm −1 corresponding to tetrahedral and octahedral clusters, respectively. The VSM test showed that the saturation magnetization ( M s ), residual magnetization ( M r ), and coercivity ( H c ) initially increased and then decreased with increasing Nb doping, reaching maximum values of 92.297 emu/g, 44.256 emu/g, and 3367.53 Oe, respectively, at x = 0.08.
