Improving the efficiency of nitric oxide (NO) removal while reducing the formation of toxic nitrogen dioxide (NO 2 ) is a challenge. Nonetheless, it remains uncertain regarding the distinct roles of carbon versus nitrogen vacancies in graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) in governing the oxidation pathway. In this study, g-C 3 N 4 enriched with carbon or nitrogen vacancies, along with the corresponding polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)-supported composite films, are prepared. The adsorptions and anchoring of NO and its intermediates are significantly enhanced by the carbon vacancies. Despite a high free energy barrier of the conversion from nitrite to nitrate, the strong anchoring suppresses the release of gaseous NO 2 . The formation of Nitrogen vacancies gives rise to polarization of the spin, leading to a significant negative displacement of the potential of the conduction band and increased carrier lifetime along with a considerable decrease in the barrier for the conversion of nitrite to nitrate. This mechanism leads to enhanced reaction flux that will improve deep oxidation. The incorporation of these materials into the PVDF film greatly enhances performance and provides reusability. This work elucidates the distinct mechanisms by which carbon and nitrogen vacancies regulate NO oxidation, providing a theoretical basis for designing efficient and selective air purification materials.

Poly(TA-Arg) coating with self-supplying NO fabricated via ethanol-water system. • Poly(TA-Arg) sample possesses a low degradation rate. • HA@CS nanoparticles synthesized with optimal HA:CS ratio. • HA@CS sample promotes endothelialization via PI3K-Akt-eNOS and Nrf2 pathways. Rapid degradation and inadequate re-endothelialization hinder the clinical application of biodegradable magnesium (Mg) alloy stents, while thrombosis and bacterial colonization further compromise early implant performance. To address these challenges, a hierarchical bilayer coating, consisting of an inner poly(α-thioctic acid)-L-arginine (Poly(TA-Arg)) layer and an outer hyaluronic acid/chitosan (HA@CS) nanoparticle layer (particle size, ∼240 nm), was fabricated on a fluorinated ZE21B Mg alloy. The Poly(TA-Arg) layer supported endothelial cell (EC)-mediated endogenous nitric oxide (NO) production. It also provided strong interfacial adhesion and corrosion protection, reducing the corrosion current density to 5.60 × 10 −8 A cm −2 . The HA@CS layer exhibited antioxidant activity, prolonged clotting time, low hemolysis, and > 99% antibacterial efficacy, as determined by plate counting. The bilayer coating promoted EC proliferation while inhibiting smooth muscle cell growth. RNA sequencing suggested that the pro-endothelialization effect was associated with PI3K-Akt- endothelial nitric oxide synthase-related signaling and an Nrf2-related antioxidant response. In a rat abdominal aorta model, the coated wire was surrounded by a thin, well-organized neointima with endothelial coverage, minimal inflammation, and no evident thrombosis. No obvious histopathological abnormalities were observed in major organs, and hematological parameters remained within normal ranges. This multifunctional coating provides a potential strategy for improving the vascular compatibility of biodegradable Mg stents. In response to the problem of nitrogen oxide pollution in tunnel environments, this study successfully prepared I - doped Bi 2 O 2 CO 3 photocatalyst I-BOC through solid-phase grinding method. The introduction of I - leads to a notable reduction in the bandgap of BOC, while also enhancing the specific surface area and pore volume, thereby facilitating the effective separation of photogenerated carriers. When exposed to visible light, I-BOC demonstrates a peak degradation efficiency of 58% for NO, and experiments involving free radical capture indicate that ·O 2 – is the primary active species, and explore the impact of the tunnel environment on the degradation efficiency of the catalyst. Additionally, epoxy resin served as the substrate for film formation, and 1H, 1H, 2H, 2H-perfluorodecyltrimethoxysilane (PFDTES) was incorporated as a low surface energy additive. A superhydrophobic photocatalytic self-cleaning coating (FBIE) characterized by a micro-nano rough structure was created using a one-step spraying technique. This coating showcases outstanding superhydrophobic properties and water contact angle exceeding 150°, along with excellent mechanical durability and chemical stability, achieving a visible light degradation efficiency of up to 65% for NO, and outstanding physical and chemical self-cleaning ability. By exploring the catalytic effects of I-BOC and FBIE coatings under different humidity conditions, the synergistic mechanism of coating photocatalysis and self-cleaning is revealed, providing broad application prospects for coatings in tunnel air purification.

Photocatalytic NO oxidation to nitrate (NO 3 − ) is a promising technology for air pollution control. However, these strategies are hindered by slow kinetics as well as unwanted production of toxic NO 2 , which result from the inefficiency in separating charges and poor activation of the reactant molecules. Here, we report on a novel 2D/2D S-scheme heterojunction constructed by coupling CoAl-layered double hydroxide (CoAl-LDH) nanosheets with BiOBr nanoplates. This particular structure enables a S-scheme charge transfer channel that can improve the separation efficiency of photoinduced charge carrier while keeping strong redox ability to generate high-reactive oxygen species (ROS, including hydroxyl radical and superoxide radicals). Furthermore, in situ DRIFTS spectra showed that Co 3+ sites within the LDH framework are key active centers, significantly enhancing NO adsorption and activation. Consequently, the obtained CoAl-LDH/BiOBr composite exhibited excellent NO removal activity, to reach a conversion rate of 97.3% with negligible NO 2 formation (selectivity <3%) under visible light, and maintained excellent stability for 8 h. This study proposes a synergistic strategy of interfacial charge control coupled with surface catalytic site design, providing new perspectives in design of high-performance catalysts for future applications in environmental protection via photo-catalytic processes.

Life-cycle exposure to environmentally relevant DPhP did not cause overt reproductive impairment in zebrafish. • DPhP exposure increased female GSI and mature oocyte count but did not affect sex hormone levels. • DPhP exposure downregulated fshβ in female brain while other HPG axis genes showed no significant changes. • Parental DPhP exposure had no significant transgenerational effects on F₁ offspring. Diphenyl phosphate (DPhP) is widely detected in environmental matrices, yet its reproductive toxicity following chronic exposure remains poorly understood. This study investigated the reproductive toxicity of life-cycle exposure to environmentally relevant concentrations of DPhP in zebrafish. Embryos (2 h post-fertilization) were exposed to DPhP at measured concentrations of 0.8, 3.9, or 35.6 μg/L for 120 days, covering the entire life cycle from embryo to adult. Reproductive endpoints assessed in adults included gonadosomatic index (GSI), gonad histopathology, reproductive performance, sex steroid hormone levels, expression of key genes along the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis, and F₁ generation development. Exposure to 3.9 or 35.6 μg/L DPhP significantly increased GSI in females but not in males. Although no overt histopathological changes were detected in the gonads, females exposed to 35.6 μg/L DPhP showed a significant increase in the number of mature oocytes in the ovaries. Cumulative egg production over 21 days showed an increasing trend that did not reach statistical significance. In females, DPhP exposure significantly downregulated fshβ expression in the brain. However, at all tested concentrations, no significant changes were observed in other HPG axis-related genes or in plasma sex steroid hormone levels in either sex. Furthermore, no significant effects were found on hatching rate, survival rate, heart rate, or body length of F₁ offspring. Collectively, life-cycle exposure to DPhP within the tested concentration range exerts limited effects on the reproductive endocrine system of zebrafish and does not induce overt reproductive impairment. For catalytic membranes, the loading of catalysts provides the membrane substrate with novel catalytic functionality, while simultaneously inducing membrane surface reconstruction. However, the effect of such surface reconstruction on performance remains unclear. Herein, VCeTi/SiC catalytic membranes with distinct surface structures were fabricated by three distinct preparation routes. Their NH 3 -SCR activity, gas permeance, and separation performance were systematically evaluated. For both VCeTi/SiC-A and VCeTi/SiC–B, the multi-step impregnation and catalyst blockage led to significantly reduced pore sizes (7.6 μm and 5.4 μm) and poor pore size distributions. In contrast, the VCeTi/SiC–C catalytic membrane prepared by single-step solution impregnation method exhibited an optimal catalyst distribution while largely maintaining a concentrated pore size distribution almost identical to the original catalytic membrane. Benefiting from the more uniform gas flow within the carrier owing to its concentrated pore size distribution, it exhibited the widest operating temperature window for NH 3 -SCR with >90% NO conversion from 300 to 450 °C. Meanwhile, VCeTi/SiC–C also displayed the improved pore size (8.0 μm), the highest gas permeance (380 m 3 m −2 h −1 ·kPa −1 ) and the lowest filtration resistance. Furthermore, we discovered "defect-compensating effect" of dust in combined removal experiment, where dust particulates contribute to enhanced denitration performance. This work provides critical insights into the surface design of high-performance catalytic membranes for medium-high temperature gas purification applications.

Sensitive, selective and low-cost sensors for nitric oxide (NO) detection are significant due to its toxicity. This report investigates the tunable sensing behavior in chemiresistive NO sensors using α-Fe2O3 nanoparticles as sensing materials. The sensor exhibits a distinctive sensing characteristic with a reversible transition from p- to n-type sensing behavior, which is regulated by working temperature. The temperature-modulated (200–400 °C) and concentration-dependent (100–1000 ppm) p–n transition diagrams are constructed, while the gas sensing behaviors can be well described using a two-isotherm model based on Langmuir adsorption theory. Detailed reactions between NO and α-Fe2O3 at each temperature are proposed, and the corresponding activation energy is calculated. It is demonstrated that the p–n transition mechanism during NO detection is modulated by the dynamic variations in the α-Fe2O3–NO interaction. The p–n transition observed as a specific behavior in NO gas sensing can provide a novel approach to enhance the recognition capability for NO gas.

Platelets attribute to the hypercoagulation of blood and maintenance of the tumor vascular integrity, resulting in limited intratumoral perfusion of nanoparticle into solid tumors. To overcome these adversities, we herein present an antiplatelet strategy based on erythrocyte membrane-enveloped proteinic nanoparticles that biomimic nitric oxide synthase (NOS)with co-loading of l -Arginine (LA) and photosensitizer IR783 for local NO release and inhibition of the activation of tumor-associated platelets specifically, thereby enhancing vascular permeability and accumulation of the nanoparticles in tumors. A cRGD-immobolized membrane structure is constructed to actively target platelets and cancer cells respectively, through overexpressed integrin receptors such as integrin α IIb β 3 and α v β 3 , accelerating the inhibition of platelet activation and endocytosis of nanoparticles by tumor cells. Bio-mimicking the arginine/NO pathway in vivo , synergistical delivery of LA and IR783 enables LA molecules readily oxidize to NO with O 2 that is mediated by activated IR783, the resulted NO not only retards the activity of platelets to disrupt the vascular integrity of tumor but also enhances toxicity to cancer cells. In addition, NIR-controlled release localizes the NO spatiotemporally to tumor-associated platelets and prevents undesirable systemic bleeding substantially. The reduction of the hypercoagulable state is further demonstrated by the down-regulation of tissues factor (TF) expression in tumor cells. Our study describes a promising approach to combat cancer, which advances the biomimetic NOS system as the potent therapeutic forces toward clinic applications.

Four new water-soluble polysaccharides has previously been isolated from Cardamine hupingshanensis . In this experiment, the structure of C. hupingshanensis polysaccharide NO. 3 (CHP-3) is analyzed and its in vitro anti-tumor activity is assessed. Through structural analysis, CHP-3 is found to have a molecular weight of 80.64 kDa, and be mainly composed of glucose, galactose, and L -arabinose; The backbone of CHP-3 is mainly composed of →5)-α-L-Araf-(1→ and →4)-α-D-Glc(p)-(1→), respectively. By studying its anti-tumor activity in vitro, it can be concluded that treatment with different concentrations of CHP-3 exerted diverse effects on A549 cells, with an obvious dose-dependent relationship. Moreover, after treatment with 12.8 mg mL −1 CHP-3, significant inhibitory effects are observed on the proliferation, migration, and invasion of A549 cells, indicating that it can be used as an anti-tumor agent for continued in-depth research.

NH 3 rapidly attenuates photo-assistance efficiency in co-removal of NO and toluene. • NO 2 formation/consumption is rate determining step of photothermal SCR reaction. • Dispersed V 5+ =O sites oxidize both NH 3 , NO and toluene under illumination. • NH 3 -derived radicals attack aromatic rings, inducing phenolic buildup on active sites. • Without mitigating photo-assisted effect attenuation, photothermal deployment increases burdens. V 2 O 5 /TiO 2 -mediated photothermal co-removal of NO and VOCs from incineration flue gas represents a promising energy and emission saving strategy. It is crucial to elucidate the effect of V 2 O 5 loading and to clarify the interaction among reactants during the photothermal catalytic process. Herein, this study elucidates the V 2 O 5 loading effect and provides mechanistic insight into reactant interactions over V 2 O 5 /TiO 2 during photothermal co-removal of NO and toluene. Optimal V 2 O 5 loading increases dispersed V 5+ =O redox and V 5+ –OH adsorption activation sites, while Ti-O-V interfacial motifs modulate the local electronic structure to promote interfacial charge transfer and charge separation. Under photothermal conditions, V 5+ =O sites simultaneously mediate the oxidation of NH 3 and NO, where the formation and consumption of NO 2 serves as the rate-determining step, leading to ineffective accumulation of photogenerated NH 4 + species. In the absence of NH 3 , photogenerated charge carriers promote the initial dehydrogenation of toluene via side-chain activation on V 5+ -OH sites, followed by deep ring-opening degradation mediated by V 5+ =O species. NO reduces the overall toluene conversion but enhances the reaction selectivity toward deep oxidation. When NH 3 and toluene co-exist, radicals derived from NH 3 directly attack the aromatic ring, thereby changing the side-chain oxidation pathway, triggering the formation of strongly adsorbed phenolic intermediates that block catalytic sites. NH 3 does not merely compete with toluene for V-OH adsorption sites, its presence also redirects the toluene oxidation pathway and locks the reaction into a thermally driven regime. This work provides insights into the V 2 O 5 -loading effects and the interaction of reactants in multipollutant photothermal catalysis. In this work, a series of Ce-W-Ti catalysts were synthesized using a solution combustion method for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO with NH3at low temperatures. The reaction performance of NH3-SCR of NO was significantly improved over the Ce-W-Ti catalysts compared to Ce0.4Ti and W0.4Ti catalysts, while Ce0.2W0.2Ti showed the best activity among all the samples. The Ce0.2W0.2Ti catalyst exhibited over 90% removal of NO and 100% N2selectivity in the temperature range of 250–400 °C at a gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) of 120,000 mL·g−1·h−1. The Ce-W-Ti catalysts were characterized using N2adsorption-desorption, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectrometry and temperature programmed desorption of NH3to establish the structure-activity relationships of the Ce-W-Ti catalysts. The excellent catalytic performance of the Ce0.2W0.2Ti catalyst could be associated with the larger specific surface area, highly dispersed Ce and W species, increased amount of surface adsorbed oxygen (Oads) and enhanced total acidity on the catalyst surfaces.

This study comprehensively evaluated Baiye No.1 (BY1H), a temperature-sensitive tea cultivar. Normally, it whitens in early spring and gradually regreens in autumn, accompanied by declining free amino acids and rising catechin and caffeine levels. We reevaluated the common belief that autumn tea is inferior. The feasibility of producing premium yellow tea from autumn-harvested BY1H was assessed, and the mechanisms underlying its quality formation were elucidated. The menhuang yellowing step played a central role. Driven by non-enzymatic thermal oxidation and hydrolysis, it reduced typical autumn defects by lowering phenolic and caffeine levels and increasing sweet-tasting free amino acids. Sensory evaluation, targeted metabolite profiling, and multivariate statistics were integrated to compare BY1H with four reference yellow teas (Ya’an Yellow Tea, Weishan Maojian, Yuan’an Luyuan Yellow Tea, and Pingyang Huangtang). BY1H yellow tea exhibited superior sensory attributes for its mellow-sweet taste and layered floral bouquet. Chemically, this profile was supported by a high water-extract yield, low levels of caffeine and ester-catechins, and abundant serine and phenylalanine. Together, these components contributed to its mellow-sweet taste. Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis further identified 18 key volatiles, among which benzaldehyde, β-ionone, and methyl 2-(2-methylpropoxy)benzoate were the major contributors to the sweet-floral aroma. Partial Least-Squares Discriminant Analysis (PLS-DA) and Mantel tests confirmed BY1H’s unique chemical signature, clearly separating it from the other traditional yellow teas. These findings demonstrate that autumn BY1H leaves can be valorized through yellow tea processing, providing a scientific basis for cultivar innovation and sustainable utilization of seasonal tea resources.
