Constructing an all zero-dimensional CsPbBr3/CdSe heterojunction for highly efficient photocatalytic CO2 reduction

Guilin Yin,Xiaosi Qi,Yanli Chen,Qiong Peng,Xingxing Jiang,Qinglong Wang,Wenhua Zhang,Xiu Gong

Metal halide perovskite quantum dots (QDs) are regarded as one of the promising photocatalysts for CO2 reduction because of their unique optoelectronic properties. However, severe charge recombination and insufficient CO2 absorption/activation have limited photocatalytic CO2 reduction. Herein, we report an efficient 0D/0D CsPbBr3/CdSe heterojunction consisting of CdSe QDs in situ grown on CsPbBr3 QDs for high-performance photocatalytic CO2 reduction using water as the electron donor in organic solution. The type-II 0D/0D heterojunction with the strong electronic coupling of Pb–Se and Br–Cd bonds between CdSe and CsPbBr3 facilitates fast electron transfer. Moreover, the specific abundant edge- and corner-sites of CdSe accelerate the CO generation by forming a Cd–C2O4− adduct, enabling superior CO2 activation capacity and efficient CO2 conversion into CO. Consequently, assisted by water to provide electrons and protons, the yield of main product CO reaches 115.26 μmol g−1, which is 4.6-fold higher than that of pristine CsPbBr3. This study is expected to provide a new way to fabricate high-performance perovskite-based catalysts in the field of photocatalysis.

Nonlinear absorption, refraction and optical limiting properties of CsPbBr3 perovskite quantum dot organic glass

Chenggang Yuan,Yuting Wang,Xiong Shen,Bingkun Chen,Fei Hu,Lin Chen,Zhongming Wang,Qiuyun Ouyang

CsPbBr 3 perovskite quantum dots (QDs) material was synthesized by a hot injection method. CsPbBr 3 /PMMA organic glasses (OGs) were fabricated by dispersing CsPbBr 3 QDs in methyl methacrylate (MMA). The open-aperture (OA) and closed-aperture (CA) Z-scan technique were used to investigate the nonlinear absorption (NLA) and nonlinear refraction (NLR) property of CsPbBr 3 /PMMA organic glasses, respectively. The changeover from saturable absorption (SA) to reverse saturable absorption (RSA) was observed in CsPbBr 3 /PMMA organic glasses with the increasing of the input energy (30–110 μJ). When the input energy is 110 μJ, the NLA coefficient is β  = 1.43 × 10 2  cm GW −1 and the NLR coefficient is γ  = −4.5 × 10 −4  cm 2  GW −1 . CsPbBr 3 /PMMA organic glasses exhibit excellent optical limiting (OL) performance due to the enhanced NLA and NLR effects. The results show that CsPbBr 3 QDs can be used for laser protection.

CsPbBr3/Cs4PbBr6 heterostructure solids with high stability and photoluminescence for white light-emitting diodes

Longshi Rao,Qing Zhang,Bin Sun,Mingfu Wen,Jiayang Zhang,Shudong Yu,Ting Fu,Xiaodong Niu

Cesium lead halide perovskite crystals have attracted widespread attention due to their excellent photoelectric properties. However, their intrinsic instability and the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) sharply dropped in the solid-state limit their practical applications. Besides, the current synthesis strategies either need a variety of ligands, or an anti-solvent, which will result in potential environmental risks. Herein, we address the above issues simultaneously by embedding CsPbBr 3 in a large bandgap Cs 4 PbBr 6 matrix by high-speed mechanical mixing without using any ligands and highly toxic anti-solvent. Changing the molar ratio of PbBr 2 /CsBr, centrifugation time, and the solution concentration, the optimized CsPbBr 3 /Cs 4 PbBr 6 show a high PLQY of up to 79%. In addition, mechanistic studies show that the origin of green luminesce of CsPbBr 3 /Cs 4 PbBr 6 microcrystals is closely related to the CsPbBr 3 inclusion theory, but not to the Br vacancy theory, in which CsPbBr 3 embedded in Cs 4 PbBr 6 to form a CsPbBr 3 /Cs 4 PbBr 6 heterostructure . By taking advantage of the heterostructure, the photostability and thermostability of CsPbBr 3 /Cs 4 PbBr 6 are significantly enhanced. In addition, the high optical and temperature/humidity-stable performances of CsPbBr 3 /Cs 4 PbBr 6 are verified by applying them to white LEDs (WLEDs). The electroluminescence intensity of WLEDs remains 70% of the original one after being stored in a chamber with high temperature and high humidity (85 °C/RH 85%) for 40 h, and the device displays luminous efficiency of 74.5 lm/W at 20 mA. This result provides a solid foundation for their scale applications in lighting, displays, and other optoelectronic and photonic devices.

Heavy Mn-doped CsPbBr3 nanocrystals synthesized by high energy ball milling with high stability

Lei Wang,Hengbin Mao,Junhui Li,Yi Li,Mingliang Li,Jinpeng Zhu,Bingbing Fan,Wen Liu,Gang Shao,Hongliang Xu,Hailong Wang,Rui Zhang,Hongxia Lu

CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) semiconductor nanocrystals (NCs) have excellent optical and photoelectric properties, and are potential core materials for various photoelectric devices. However, the toxicity of Pb and instability have been the key limitations to application of NCs. Herein, using MnBr2 and MnBr2·4H2O as manganese sources, heavy Mn-doped CsPbBr3 (Mn:CsPbBr3) NCs are synthesized by high-energy ball grinding, which avoids high temperature, a large number of polar solvents and atmosphere protection required in traditional liquid phase methods. However, when MnBr2·4H2O is used as the raw material, infinite solid solution doping can be achieved, and the synthesized Mn:CsPbBr3 NCs show smaller particle size, stronger PL intensity and stability. The reason is that presence of crystal water plays a similar role to wet milling in the ball milling process, and can promote the passivation effect of oleylamine (OAm) on nanocrystal defects and the connection between them. In addition, a simple, easy-operating and beneficial to commercial production method for the preparation of Mn:CsPbBr3 NCs/EVA flexible films is proposed, which can effectively improve the stability of Mn:CsPbBr3 NCs. This study is expected to provide an effective way for the synthesis and stability improvement of CsPbX3 NCs doped with different ions.

Z-scheme SnS2/CsPbBr3 Heterojunctions for Photoreduction CO2 Reaction and Related Photoinduced Carrier Behaviors

Rui Zhang,Linjia Li,YinYin Li,Dejun Wang,Yanhong Lin,Tengfeng Xie

CsPbBr 3 perovskite exhibits potential application in photocatalytic CO 2 reduction into valuable chemical fuels; however, enhancing carrier separation capability of the CsPbBr 3 and fully understanding the CO 2 reduction reaction process are still imperative. Herein, a new series of x SnS 2 /CsPbBr 3 nanocrystals (NCs)- y heterostructures are developed, which exhibit better catalytic activity in comparison with pure CsPbBr 3 NCs. Interface and surface carrier dynamic investigation reveals that this heterojunction structure can effectively improve carrier separation efficiency. Based on the interfacial electric field direction of CsPbBr 3 to SnS 2 , it is suggested that SnS 2 /CsPbBr 3 NC heterostructure satisfies Z-scheme transfer dynamics. Meanwhile, by the aid of in situ surface photovoltage, it is experimentally confirmed there is dynamic carrier interaction between CO 2 molecules and the SnS 2 /CsPbBr 3 NCs photocatalyst under irradiation, and a photocatalytic CO 2 reduction mechanism is thus proposed. This work expands the awareness of the interaction between CO 2 and the photocatalyst, which can be strongly influenced by carrier separation efficiency at the photocatalyst heterojunction.

Wavelength Tunable Aqueous CsPbBr3-Based Nanoprobes with Ultrahigh Photostability for Targeted Super-Resolution Bioimaging

Zhaoyan Yang,Shenfei Zong,Kuo Yang,Kai Zhu,Na Li,Zhuyuan Wang,Yiping Cui

Single molecule localization microscopy (SMLM) is indispensable in the visualization of cellular microstructures. However, current SMLM imaging materials, from organic fluorophores to quantum dots, still lack the requirement of increasing need for multiple targets of interest due to their broad emission. Here, by one-step encapsulating hydrophilic cesium lead bromide perovskite nanocrystals (CsPbBr3 NCs) into functionalized polyethylene glycol (PEG), a core–shell nanocomposite of CsPb(Cl(1–x)/Brx)3@PEG (0 < x < 1) was presented as a wavelength-tunable fluorescent probe with the narrow full width at half-maximum (fwhm) as 11 nm. The layer of functionalized PEG endows CsPbBr3 NCs with a broad spectral tunability from 521 to 431 nm, superior photostability for several years, and the ability to be further surface functionalized. The CsPb(Cl(1–x)/Brx)3@PEG exhibits a sub-10 nm localization precision and 10-fold enhanced spatial resolution. Using exosomes with small sizes less than 150 nm as the imaging target, CsPb(Cl(1–x)/Brx)3@PEG realized the distinction of two adjacent exosomes by SMLM. Moreover, after being modified with biotin, CsPb(Cl(1–x)/Brx)3@PEG was universally used for SMLM imaging of cellular microstructures. The excellent photostability and narrow fwhm indicated that such a CsPbBr3-based nanoprobe has great potential as a commercial dye for multitarget super-resolution bioimaging applications.

Sequential dip-coating of CsPbBr3 perovskite films in ambient conditions and their photovoltaic performance

Rico-Yuson Christine Adelle,Danwittayakul Supamas,Kumar Sivanappan,Hornyak G. Louis,Bora Tanujjal

We report a facile, versatile, and efficient deposition technique for CsPbBr 3 film growth in ambient conditions satisfying nano-scale control and potential large-scale production. Achieving highly crystalline halide perovskite films for solar cells remains challenging, particularly in ambient conditions. Herein, we employed a full sequential dip-coating technique for preparing CsPbBr 3 perovskite films in ambient conditions and used them as the photo-absorbing layer in n-i-p type mesoscopic-structured photovoltaic devices. The sequential dip-coating approach can grow highly crystalline CsPbBr 3 films. The film composition can be tuned with controlled deposition parameters to reduce unwanted derivative phases, such as CsPb 2 Br 5 and Cs 4 PbBr 6 . The optimized CsPbBr 3 films exhibit comparable photovoltaic performance to those in the same device architecture fabricated using spin-coating methods. The technique demonstrates good versatility and suitability for potential scalable and high-throughput solution processing of CsPbBr 3 perovskite films. Graphical abstract

Nucleation-controlled growth of high-quality CsPbBr3 single crystals for ultrasensitive weak-light photodetectors

Xiao Zhao,Shimao Wang,Fuwei Zhuge,Nengwei Zhu,Yanan Song,Mengyu Fu,Zanhong Deng,Xiaodong Fang,Gang Meng

All-inorganic perovskite CsPbBr3 single crystals (SCs) possessing both excellent photoelectric properties and environmental stability have become promising photoelectric materials. However, it remains challenging to prepare high-quality CsPbBr3 SCs with regular shape using a solution growth method due to the difference in growth rates along different crystal orientations and the difficulty in controlling the number of nucleation seeds. In this work, a solution refinement strategy has been introduced into the choline bromide assisted inverse temperature crystallization method for achieving high-quality cuboid-shaped CsPbBr3 SCs. The acquired CsPbBr3 SCs exhibit a relatively low trap density of 4.02 × 109 cm−3 and a relatively high carrier mobility of 89.72 cm2 V−1 s−1. Furthermore, the as-grown CsPbBr3 SC based photodetector exhibits high photodetection performance, especially ultrasensitive weak light detection performance. Under 530 nm light irradiation with a low light power density of 0.11 μW cm−2, the responsivity and external quantum efficiency of the CsPbBr3 SC based photodetector at a bias of 10 V could reach 36.4 A W−1 and 8520%, respectively, and a fast response speed with a rise time of 2.84 μs and a fall time of 6.38 μs has been achieved. It is worth noting that the photodetector exhibits an extremely low detection limit of 2.25 nW cm−2, indicating its great potential for weak light detection.

Immobilizing CsPbBr3 perovskite nanocrystals on nanoporous carbon powder for visible-light-driven CO2 photoreduction

Ying Jiang,Cunxin Mei,Zhijie Zhang,Zhongliang Dong

Perovskite CsPbBr3 nanocrystals (NCs) have emerged as promising candidates for the photocatalytic reduction of CO2. However, the CO2 conversion efficiency of pristine CsPbBr3 is still unsatisfactory, mainly due to severe radiative recombination, poor stability and low CO2 capturing ability. Coincidentally, nanoporous carbon powder (NCP) has received tremendous attention for environmental remediation and renewable energy production. Herein, by immobilizing CsPbBr3 NCs into the pores of NCP, a CsPbBr3/NCP hybrid has been successfully constructed for the first time, which combined the advantages of CsPbBr3 NCs and NCP. In comparison with pristine CsPbBr3, the resultant hybrid photocatalyst exhibited much superior photocatalytic performance in CO2 reduction, which could be attributed to the enhanced electron extraction and transfer between CsPbBr3 NCs and NCP, higher CO2 capturing ability and more active sites for CO2 activation. Furthermore, the nanohybrid displayed remarkable reusability in photocatalytic CO2 reduction. This study is anticipated to provide a new pathway for the design and fabrication of high-performance photocatalysts based on perovskites for solar-energy-conversion applications.

Facile Synthesis of CsPbBr3/K4–xNb6O17 Nanocomposites with Sandwich-like and Scroll-like Heterostructures

Wei Wan,Yifei Zhao,Shuai Zhang,Fangrui Cheng,Shi Ye

Cesium lead halide (CsPbX3, where X is Cl, Br, or I) perovskite quantum dots (QDs) hold great potential for applications in various devices, on account of their superior electronic and optical properties. However, the poor stability has severely restricted their applications. Herein, by exfoliating K4Nb6O17 into niobate nanosheets (KNO NSs) and utilizing the flocculation of KNO NSs as building blocks, the CsPbBr3/K4–xNb6O17 (CsPbBr3/KNO) nanocomposites were obtained via evaporation of a dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) solution and crystallization of CsPbBr3 nanocrystals. The as-synthesized CsPbBr3/KNO nanocomposites possess sandwich-like and scroll-like heterostructures, which consist of restacked KNO NSs and CsPbBr3 in the internanosheet gallery. CsPbBr3/KNO nanocomposites exhibit better exciton emission of CsPbBr3 with a prolonged emission decay time with reference to the value of CsPbBr3 QDs. In addition, the strong interaction at the interfaces of CsPbBr3 and KNO NSs endows CsPbBr3/KNO nanocomposites with significantly improved resistance to alcohol over bare CsPbBr3 QDs. This work paves a new way for utilizing oxide nanosheets as building blocks to synthesize stable all-inorganic perovskite QDs.

Utilizing internal resonant scattering to improve photoluminescence energy outcoupling of CsPbBr3/Cs4PbBr6 perovskite phosphor

Zong-Tao Li,Bo-Jia Li,Jia-Sheng Li,Cun-Jiang Song,Xin-Rui Ding,Hai-Long Yuan,Bin-Hai Yu,Yong Tang,Jian-Zhen Ou,Romain Gautier,Hong-Lei Ji,Hao-Chung Kuo

Although stable perovskite phosphors, i.e., CsPbBr 3 /Cs 4 PbBr 6 , were extensively reported and made great progress, achieving strong photoluminescence (PL) energy outcoupling remains challenging owing to their short Stoke’s shift with serious PL energy absorption. This study utilized internal resonant scattering (IRS) to improve the PL energy outcoupling (PEO) of CsPbBr 3 /Cs 4 PbBr 6 perovskite phosphor, which was realized by the nanopore-packing perovskite particles (NP-PPs) structure inside a phosphor. The nano-porous matrix hybrid solid–liquid interfacial reaction was developed to construct NP-PPs in a phosphor, and it is optimized to achieve a denser NP-PP structure with an enhanced PEO effect (2.8-fold enhanced PL intensity). Numerical results revealed that the NP-PP structure transforms the PL energy absorption mode to the IRS mode, most of the scattering PL energy evades NP-PPs instead of propagating inside. The optimized phosphor was applied to white devices, and we finally achieved an ultrahigh luminous efficacy of 131.32 lm/W based on green perovskite phosphors. This study provides a general guide for efficient perovskite phosphors utilizing the nano-porous matrix to enable the IRS effect.

Thickness-Dependent Photoluminescence Properties of Mn-Doped CsPbBr3 Perovskite Nanoplatelets Synthesized at Room Temperature

Zhaolun Yang,Xi Yuan,Yusheng Song,Mingyan Chen,Ke Xing,Sheng Cao,Jinju Zheng,Jialong Zhao

Mn-doped CsPbBr3 perovskite nanoplatelets (NPLs) with multicolor emission have very promising applications in light-emitting devices. However, the effects of NPL thickness on the Mn2+ luminescence properties remain to be investigated. Herein, a series of Mn-doped CsPbBr3 NPLs and nanocubes with different Mn/Pb molar ratios were synthesized by a supersaturated crystallization method at room temperature. The incorporation of Mn2+ ions into CsPbBr3 perovskites is attributed to the formation of the L2[Pb1–xMnx]Br4 intermediate structure in the precursor. The excitonic peak is tuned from 437 to 488 nm and the morphology evolves from NPLs to nanocubes with an increasing Mn2+ ion doping concentration due to the excess Br– from MnBr2. The photoluminescence quantum yields (PL QYs) of NPLs/nanocubes were greatly enhanced, achieving the maximum PL QYs of 88.7% at the Mn/Pb molar ratio of 3/1. The PL lifetime of Mn2+ emission is tuned from 0.19 to 0.44 ms due to the passivation of defect states and morphology transformation. Temperature-dependent steady-state and time-resolved PL spectra revealed that deep defect states in the NPLs/nanocubes were significantly reduced as the thickness increased. The Mn-doped CsPbBr3 NPLs/nanocubes show great potential for application in white light-emitting diodes.
