A novel deep-red phosphor with Mn 4+ -doped double perovskites SrLaNaTeO 6 (SLNTO) was synthesized by the conventional high-temperature solid-state method. SLNTO contains both [NaO 6 ] and [TeO 6 ] octahedra. The octahedral structure of double perovskites facilitates the doping of Mn 4+ . The band gap ( E g ) of the direct semiconductor SLNTO is 2.88 eV. With an excitation wavelength of 322 nm, SLNTO:Mn 4+ has a 700 nm deep-red wavelength emission assigned to the energy level transition from 2 E 1g to 4 A 2g of Mn 4+ ions. Photoluminescence (PL) of the sample and phytochrome far-red light (P FR ) absorption are satisfactory matches. According to the Tanabe-Sugano diagram, Mn 4+ is located in the strong crystalline field for 2 E 1g . A 2.0 mol% concentration of Mn 4+ is optimal; further high doping results in concentration quenching, ascribed to the neighbour ion interaction and dipole‒dipole ( d-d ) interactions. The internal quantum efficiency (IQE) is 87.84 %. Additionally, the electroluminescent (EL) spectrum of the encapsulated plant growth lamp overlaps with the chlorophyll a and b absorption spectra . Its Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of SLNTO:2.0 mol%Mn 4+ phosphor with a near-ultraviolet (n-UV) chip are located in (0.720, 0.280). The phosphor-converted white light-emitting diode (pc-WLED) has a high colour rendering index ( R a = 96) with a suitable correlated colour temperature (CCT = 6240 K). The results are satisfactory for white light-emitting diodes (w-LEDs) and plant growth lamps.

To reach highly active and selective gas-phase nitrilation of dimethyl adipate (DMA) with NH 3 , a series of Nb x W 10-x (x = 10, 9, 7, 5 and 0) composite were fabricated by a sol–gel method to approach the homogeneous combination of NbO x and WO x . As a result, the single-pass yield of adiponitrile (ADN) reached 85.2% over Nb 9 W 1 under lower reaction temperature and lower NH 3 /DMA molar ratio. Consequently, the space–time yield (STY) of ADN over Nb 9 W 1 was 1.7 ∼ 30 times higher than that of previous catalysts. Mechanistic experiments demonstrated the activity strongly correlates the interaction between the carbonyl functionality and the composite. Further, a significant synergistic effect between W and Nb was disclosed, wherein the Nb-based domains account for activating DMA while the W-based domains mainly adsorb and activate NH 3 feedstock.

Design and synthesis of a highly efficient OER catalyst is the key to improve the efficiency of hydroelectrolysis for hydrogen production. In this paper, a rational approach to improve the catalytic performance of CoMoO4 nanomaterial was reported. A nanoflower structured CoMoO4 precursor was synthesized on nickel foam using a typical hydrothermal method. Then, CoMoO4/NF was etched through brief immersion in iron nitrate solution at room temperature to produce FeOOH–CoMoO4/NF. The unique 3D structure of FeOOH–CoMoO4/NF could availably promote interfacial electron transfer as well as effectively provide abundant active sites, and it exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity. FeOOH–CoMoO4/NF requires an overpotential of 209 mV to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm−2. Meanwhile, the material FeOOH–CoMoO4/NF exhibits excellent catalytic durability of up to 24 h, which is promising for practical applications in energy conversion. Thus, this work may offer a viable strategy to assemble remarkable OER electrocatalysts.

In this study, a tungstated zirconia (WOx/ZrO2) catalyst was developed for the continuous synthesis of adiponitrile (ADN) by gas-phase nitrilation of dimethyl adipate (DMA) with NH3. The highest TOFADN could be reached on WOx/ZrO2 bearing ∼1D WOx species (highly dispersed and discontinuous status) at the surface, which, however, delivered the poorest selectivity toward nitrilation (SADN+MCP). In comparison, both efficient and selective transformation of DMA to ADN was achieved by fabricating WOx/ZrO2 with continuously distributed oligomeric WOx species (∼2D) at the surface, either by varying the dosage of the W-reagent in the preparation of WOx(m)/ZrO2 or by doping a proper amount of the Mn element into WOx(5.0)/ZrO2, bearing WO3 NPs. Furthermore, the in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy investigations of both independent and competitive adsorptions of ester functionality and NH3 over W–O–Zr, W–O–W, and Zr–O–Zr boundaries at the surface clarified the synergistic effect of these species in the activation of DMA/NH3 and thereby nitrilation.

A multi-branched trinuclear ionic liquid demulsifier (EDHBr-IL) was synthesized using glycerol triglycidyl ether, di- n -hexylamine and 1-bromododecane as raw materials using a simple “one-pot” method. Its structure was characterized by FT-IR, 1 H NMR and 13 C NMR spectra. EDHBr-IL exhibited a favorable demulsifying performance in W/O emulsions at lower temperature. The demulsifying efficiency (DE) of 300 mg/L of EDHBr-IL at 50 °C reached 90 % with for 2 h. It showed an excellent acid, alkaline and salt resistance. A relatively high DE was achieved at a pH range of 4–12 and a salinity of 10,000 mg/L. In addition, the demulsification mechanism was explored based on interfacial properties and micro examination. EDHBr-IL has substantial potential for the demulsification of W/O emulsions due to its simple and safe preparation, and performance comparable to that of with commercial demulsifiers.

Ni-W/TiN nanocomposite coatings were successfully prepared via pulse electroplating from an electrolyte containing suspended TiN nanoparticles . The effects of applied current density and deposition time on microstructure, morphology, composition, hardness and electrochemical behaviors of the obtained coatings were investigated. Results showed that the current density and deposition time affect remarkably the electrochemical co-deposition process and then the structure and characteristics of the composites. It illustrated that the nanocomposites are uniform, compact and crack-free. The nanocomposites prepared at I a = 3 A dm −2 and t = 20 min had the finest structure, showing a fine and smooth surface. EDS mapping and XPS spectra illustrated that the TiN nanoparticles had been homogeneously dispersed throughout the coating. 2.34 wt% TiN nanoparticles were embedded in Ni–W (68.56 wt% Ni and 29.1 wt% W) alloy matrix at I a = 3.0 A dm −2 . The inclusion of TiN nanoparticles in Ni–W could promote the nucleation and cause a distinct microstructural change. The crystallite size was in the range of 11–15 nm. The average roughness value ( R a ) is 65.7 nm and 73.8 nm for coating formed at 20 min and 40 min, respectively. The electrochemical measurements illustrated that I a = 3–5 A dm −2 and t = 40–60 min was the optimal operating parameters for the excellent anti-corrosion properties of Ni–W/TiN nanocomposites. The embedded TiN in Ni–W matrix could fill defects then improve its corrosion resistance . This electrodeposited Ni–W/TiN nanocomposites possess excellent hardness and superior corrosion resistance , and is expected to be applied in aggressive environment as a protective coating.

In this work, a mesoporous silica microsphere (MSM) was selected as a support to prepare a bimetallic supported catalyst (15% W–5% Ni/MSM) by a co-impregnation method that was simple and easy to conduct. We wished to improve the capability of catalytic conversion of biomass into ethylene glycol (EG) and 1,2-propylene glycol (1,2-PG). 15% W–5% Ni/MSM was examined on microcrystalline cellulose (cellulose) and corn stalks in a one-pot catalytic process, and total yields of EG and 1,2-PG reached up to 82.40 wt% and 62.60 wt%, respectively. This remarkable catalytic performance of W–Ni/MSM catalyst could be attributed to the synergistic effect between the active sites of Ni and W and the unique structure of MSM, which was suitable for mass transfer and metal loading. Based on physicochemical characterizations, the metal component was well-distributed on the surface of the MSM, and the metallic Ni, W and WO3 of the fresh catalyst were converted mainly into NiWO4 during the catalytic conversion of cellulose. To shed light on the reaction mechanism of the catalyzed hydrogenation of biomass, a possible process involving the formation of HxWO3 homogeneous catalysts, cellulose hydrolysis, C–C cleavage and hydrogenation conversion to 1,2-PG and EG was illustrated. Furthermore, the reusability of W–Ni/MSM catalyst was tested and we explored the cause of decreased diols yields. In summary, this work provides important guidance to rationally design effective catalysts for biomass conversion.

Tungsten, one of the refractory metals, has lots of excellent properties, making tungsten powders become a choice of raw material for many applications. This work reported a simple method (the salt-assisted hydrogen reduction of WO 3 powders) for preparing tungsten powders with desired morphologies and size. By adjusting the amount of additive (Y(NO 3 ) 3 ) and reduction temperature, metallic tungsten particles with different morphologies and size were obtained. It was found that both temperature and additive had apparent effects on the morphology and size of metallic W particles, and the large parallelepiped-shaped powders disappeared and large irregular blocky-shaped powders were degraded under the influence of additive. With the increase of temperature and amount of salt, particles became more dispersed and the size increased at higher temperatures, and the shape of particles was changed from spherical to polyhedral as well. On the contrary, the size of sub-particles became smaller as increasing amount of Y(NO 3 ) 3 at lower temperatures. Based on the results, the reaction and refining mechanisms for preparing tungsten were proposed as well.

The development of functional window films for energy savings and privacy protection has attracted considerable attention. Herein, a functional nanocellulose film was fabricated via a papermaking technique by using the naturally formed network structure of nanocellulose film to obtain privacy protection and to encapsulate paraffin particles stabilized by W-doped VO 2 nanoparticles and chitosan. The paraffin particles stabilized by W-doped VO 2 nanoparticles and chitosan were prepared via an emulsion approach without using surfactant. The incorporation of paraffin into the nanocellulose film not only enhances the latent heat and lowers the forward transmittance of the nanocellulose film but also improves its hydrophobicity. The presence of a small amount of W-doped VO 2 nanoparticles in the paraffin particle dispersion further increases the forward transmittance and latent heat of the nanocellulose film, especially at elevated temperatures. Meanwhile, the introduction of chitosan in the paraffin particle dispersion significantly improves the toughness of the nanocellulose film. Consequently, the incorporation of paraffin particles endows the nanocellulose film with hydrophobicity and toughness as well as good privacy protection and thermal insulation for energy savings at both room and elevated temperatures, making the as-prepared nanocellulose film a promising functional window film.

In this study, we proposed in situ controlled preparation of 3D flower-like Ti 3 C 2 T x microspheres (FMXMSs) by water-in-oil (W/O) emulsion-assisted assembly. Polyethyleneimine (PEI), as a large molecule, can effectively stabilize the emulsion system. Ethylenediamine (EDA), as a weak cross-link agent, contains rich amino groups, which can effectively induce the assembly of Ti 3 C 2 T x in spherical droplets and eventually form 3D flower-like Ti 3 C 2 T x microspheres. By adjusting the water-oil volume ratio, the size of micro-emulsion droplets can be controlled, thus the structure and size of microspheres can finally be controlled. The structure has a large specific surface area (108.31 m 2 g -1 ) which can provide an effective ion diffusion pathway. As the supercapacitors electrode, the specific capacitance of FMXMSs is up to 224.57 F g -1 at 5 mV s -1 and 193.67 F g -1 at 0.5 A g -1 . Moreover, they also show good long-term cyclic stability. After 5000 cycles, the specific capacitance does not decay. The results indicate that W/O emulsion-assisted assembly is feasible for preparing MXenes microspheres with high electrochemical performance.

Formation of water-in-oil (W/O) emulsion seriously limits heavy oil production, and the interfacial adsorption of heavy components of oil is the key to clarify the emulsification of crude oil and formation water. In this study, the viscosifying behavior of W/O emulsion was correlated with the interfacial adsorption of heavy components using two typical heavy oil samples, i.e., high-resins oil and high-asphaltenes oil. Results showed that the resins, instead of the asphaltenes , contributed to the pseudoplastic behavior of W/O emulsion. The interfacial adsorption of resins presented the lower interfacial tension (IFT), the higher interfacial viscosity and the stronger film stability. However, when more asphaltenes was adsorbed on the interface, the film of oil-water interface changed from viscous to brittle and breakable. According to the composition analysis, the interfacial activity of resins was much stronger than asphaltenes. Besides, the W/O emulsion formed using model oil with resins performed the better stability compared with that formed using model oil with asphaltenes. This study provided that the interfacial adsorption of resins enhanced the emulsifying ability of crude oil and the film stability of W/O emulsion, which heavily aggravated the viscosifying behavior.
