Electrodes material and electrolytes play an important role in defining energy storage performance of supercapacitors. Therefore, the selection of suitable electrode material as well as electrolyte is very crucial. In this work, hematite α-Fe 2 O 3 nanoparticles supported rGO structure is synthesized by a low cost co-precipitation approach. The developed electrode is investigated for supercapacitor in 1.0 M KOH, Na 2 SO 4 and aqueous hybrid electrolyte. It is found that the fabricated (α-Fe 2 O 3 /rGO) electrode delivers an improved specific capacitance of 1272 F g −1 at 1 A g −1 in hybrid electrolyte as compare to 700 F g −1 for KOH and 978 F g −1 for Na 2 SO 4 electrolyte. Moreover, the electrode shows excellent cyclic stability in contrast to the pristine α-Fe2O3 electrode. Interestingly, the assembled prototype asymmetric coin cell supercapacitor (α-Fe 2 O 3 /rGO//AC) device achieved a specific capacitance of 152 F g −1 at 1 A g −1 and energy density of 47.1 Wh kg −1 at a power density of 245.5 W kg −1 . Moreover, the device keeps 94% capacitance retention up to 8,000 cycles at 6 A g −1 . The improved performance is attributing to the increase in conductivity and charge kinetics in hybrid electrolyte. It is suggested that α-Fe 2 O 3 /rGO structure is a useful material for supercapacitors in the presence of hybrid electrolyte.

New ternary nanocomposites for photocatalysis, composed of ZnFe 2 O 4 @ZnO@rGO, were synthesised in this work using a straightforward hydrothermal method. After characterising the samples' structures, morphologies, and photoelectric outcomes, researchers found that 25–30 nm ZnFe 2 O 4 @ZnO nanoparticles were securely attached to the surface of the rGO sheets' fibres. The photocatalytic activity in the deterioration of rhodamine B (RhB) was much enhanced by the ZnFe 2 O 4 @ZnO@rGO composite photocatalysts when compared to ZnO, ZnFe 2 O 4 , and ZnFe 2 O 4 @ZnO. With a degradation efficiency of 99.9% for RhB and 88.7% for MB after 60 min of ultraviolet (UV) radiation, the ZnFe 2 O 4 @ZnO@rGO composite photocatalyst stood out as the most active photocatalyst. In addition, this nanocomposite exhibited excellent adaptability for use in water treatment, since it could be magnetised apart and maintained a dye removal percentage of about 100% after eight cycles. Analysis of the photodynamic response and TRPL spectra further verified that the manufactured ternary composite had improved charge transfer efficiency. The synergy of multicomponent ternary nanocomposites may have contributed to the enhanced performance by increasing absorption capacities automatically, discouraging the reconsolidation of electron–hole couples, and inducing the photodeveloped separation of proteins.

Nitrogen-doped carbon electrode materials with porous structures loaded with metal nanoparticles are considered promising candidates for supercapacitor applications, as they enhance electron transfer and shorten ion diffusion pathways. In the synthesis of polystyrene microspheres, graphene oxide combined with Ni 2+ and Ag + is introduced and carbonized under the protection of argon gas at 900 °C. A highly defective 3D porous framework is formed, achieving reduction of graphene oxide (rGO/Ni-Ag/CP) and the formation of Ni Ag nanoparticles on the graphene oxide sheets, which act as an effective electrochemical active site. Thus, the charge storage of supercapacitors is improved to achieve high-performance capacitance characteristics. The core-shell structure with polyaniline as the shell layer was prepared via in-situ polymerization. After the second carbonization, the material (rGO/Ni-Ag/CP@CPANI) was obtained. Electrochemical analysis reveals that the material demonstrates a specific capacitance of 383.6 F g −1 at 0.5 A g −1 , with an impressive capacitance retention of 93.9 % after 10,000 cycles. The assembled symmetric supercapacitor exhibits an energy density of 15 Wh kg −1 and a power density of 6000 W kg −1 , showing its excellent performance for energy storage applications.

The preparation of a sensitive electrochemical biosensor for lactate determination, devoid of lactate enzyme, is achieved through the integration of cobalt nitride and reduced graphene oxide nanosheets. The sensing platform comprises porous cobalt nitride with lactate oxidase mimic activity for efficient lactate oxidation. The incorporation of reduced graphene oxide nanosheets with a large surface area and high electron-transfer rate enhances the response current. The electrochemical biosensor exhibits good sensing performance for lactate in a neutral solution, which has a linear detection range of 1–80 mM with a detection limit of 0.51 mM via differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) measurement. Notably, the sensing platform also shows good stability and selectivity and was successfully applied to determine lactate in human serum samples.

In this study, ZnFe 2 O 4 , BiVO 4 , and ZnFe 2 O 4 /BiVO 4 /rGO materials were synthesized using the hydrothermal method in mild conditions to study the oxytetracycline (OTC) degradation process. The results on surface morphology, functional group, structure, and optical and electrochemical characteristics revealed that ZnFe 2 O 4 /BiVO 4 /rGO were successfully prepared with high purity and good distribution of chemical elements. The impact of different parameters like pH, catalyst load, reaction time, initial OTC concentration, and the presence of ozone-nanobubbles on the OTC degradation efficiency was systematically examined to obtain optimal treatment conditions. Synergic effects between ozone-nanobubbles and ZnFe 2 O 4 /BiVO 4 /rGO heterojunction led to an enhancement of over 20 % of OTC degradation yield. The OTC degradation reached 96.3 % within 100 min at optimal conditions (pH 7.0, [Cat.] = 0.5 g/L, and [OTC] = 20 mg/L). The combination of ZnFe 2 O 4 and BiVO 4 allowed to benefit from the generation of both effective electrons and holes, which enhanced the generation rate of both superoxide and hydroxyl radicals responsible for degrading the pollutant in water while rGO sheets contributed to slowing down the recombination rate between electrons and holes and improving the photocatalytic activities of the ZnFe 2 O 4 /BiVO 4 /rGO. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) analyses were deployed to figure out intermediate substances and possible degradation pathways of the OTC degradation process. The ZnFe 2 O 4 /BiVO 4 /rGO heterojunction exhibited a pretty good durability and stability, and was easily recovered with the aid of a magnet. The toxicity of the by-products was significantly declined compared to the OTC antibiotic.

The high activity barriers of Li 2 S nucleation and deposition limit the redox reaction kinetics of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs), meanwhile, the significant shuttle effect of LiPSs hampers the advancement of Li-S batteries (LSBs). In this work, a NiSe 2 /CoSe 2 -rGO (NiSe 2 /CoSe 2 -G) sulfur host with bifunctional catalytic activity was prepared through a hard template method. Electrochemical experiment results confirm that the combination of NiSe 2 and CoSe 2 not only facilitates the bidirectional catalytic function during charge and discharge processes, but also increases the active sites toward LiPSs adsorption. Simultaneously, the highly conductive rGO network enhances the electronic conductivity of NiSe 2 /CoSe 2 -G/S and provides convenience for loading NiSe 2 /CoSe 2 catalysts. Benefitting from the exceptional catalytic-adsorption capability of NiSe 2 /CoSe 2 and the presence of rGO, the NiSe 2 /CoSe 2 -G/S electrode exhibits excellent electrochemical properties . At 1C, it demonstrates a low capacity attenuation of 0.087 % per cycle during 500 cycles. The electrode can maintain a discharge capacity of 927 mAh/g at a sulfur loading of 3.3 mg cm −2 . The bidirectional catalytic activity of NiSe 2 /CoSe 2 -G offers a prospective approach to expedite the redox reactions of active S, meanwhile, this work also offers an ideal approach for designing efficient S hosts for LSBs.

Reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and MXene have garnered significant attention due to their exceptional pseudocapacitance and electrical conductivity that are viable in energy storage applications. Nevertheless, the challenge of self-restacking between the 2D material surfaces and the tendency of MXene to oxidise has posed obstacles to their further utilisation. This prompted researchers to use cellulose nanofibre (CNF) as a prospective “bridge” to connect the two materials. This approach has been shown to prevent MXene from oxidising while facilitating GO conversion into rGO via reduction. Consequently, 3D macroporous Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene/cellulose nanofibres/reduced graphene oxide (MCG) aerogels have been successfully prepared. A breakthrough in solving the self-stacking problem and creating a sensibly designed 3D macroporous electrode structure has yielded excellent electrochemical capabilities for MCG aerogel electrodes. Specifically at 1.0 mW cm −2 power density, these electrodes have demonstrated an outstanding performance in 5000 cycles with 79.4% retention rate, favourable areal specific capacitance of 671 mF cm −2 and unparalleled energy density of 60.9 mWh cm −2 . Overall, this study offers significant perspectives on the possible uses of 2D materials, especially in terms of adjusting their structure and functionality.

We designed and fabricated a photocatalyst made of reduced titanium dioxide nanorods (TiO2−x NRs) that incorporates silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) sheets, to narrow the band gap and improve the photoinduced degradation of methylene blue (MB). The morphological characterization showed that Ag NPs and rGO sheets were well-deposited on both the top surface and the outer walls of vertically oriented 1D TiO2−x NRs. Energy dispersive spectroscopy and specific surface area analyses confirmed the presence of both Ag NPs and rGO sheets and the as-obtained TiO2−x/Ag/rGO sample exhibited a large specific surface area (153.7 m2 g−1). Moreover, X-ray diffraction patterns contained peaks characteristic of tetragonal rutile TiO2 and confirmed that there is no phase change after reduction treatment. The optical investigation revealed that the formation of Ti3+ ions, surface defects and oxygen vacancies were considered as major reasons for the red shift of the absorption edge towards the visible region (546 nm) compared with pristine TiO2 NRs. The incorporation of Ag NPs and rGO with TiO2−x NRs improved the light absorbance and the narrowing of the TiO2−x bandgap energy (from 2.95 to 1.97 eV) as a result of the SPR effect of Ag NPs and the reduced light reflection in the presence of rGO. Therefore, among the various as-prepared photocatalysts, the TiO2−x/Ag/rGO (2% wt) photocatalyst showed the best performance, degrading almost 100% of MB under 120 min visible light irradiation. Kinetic studies confirmed that degradation reactions over all photocatalysts followed first order kinetics. The photodegradation rate toward MB over TiO2−x/Ag/rGO (2% wt) is 6.45, 1.85, and 1.6 times higher compared to that of pristine TiO2 NRs, TiO2−x and TiO2−x/Ag, respectively. The TiO2−x/Ag/rGO composite proves to be an exceptionally efficient photocatalyst for water treatment.

Waterborne epoxy (WEP) resins have gained considerable attention for their environmentally friendly characteristics. Nevertheless, they are susceptible to substantial failures due to electrochemical corrosion, particularly when the coating is compromised or exposed to harsh corrosion environments. Furthermore, its long-term anticorrosive performance is affected by certain inherent defects. In this study, inspired by the adhesive properties of mussels, polydopamine (PDA) was used as a green binder to integrate graphene oxide (GO), h-M O O 3 , and WEP matrix, creating a uniform three-dimensional (3D) network structure. PDA-modified two-dimensional GO nanosheets can also create a porous carrier capable of loading anticorrosive Mo derivatives, imparting self-healing properties that enhance anti-corrosion performance. The resulting composites exhibited remarkable self-healing ability due to the unique design of the PDA-rGO porous structure infused with anticorrosive MoO 3 . Subsequently, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy were used to confirm the PDA-rGO/MoO 3 nanostructure. The results confirmed the successful self-polymerization of PDA on the GO surface, converting it into reduced GO (rGO). Then PDA-rGO/MoO 3 composite WEP coatings were systematically evaluated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), microscopy and acceleration corrosion experiment. In addition, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and microscopy were used to assess the PDA-rGO/MoO 3 composite coatings. The EIS results revealed that the composite coating with 0.5 wt% PDA-rGO/MoO 3 substantially enhanced the anti-corrosion performance compared with the control samples. After prolonged immersion for 60 days in a 3.5 wt% NaCl solution, the composite coating exhibited outstanding anti-corrosion performance, surpassing that of the GO/WEP coating by three orders of magnitude. This composite nanocoating provides valuable insights into the design of well-dispersed, 3D network-structured coatings with self-healing properties for corrosion protection, which opens up new possibilities for the practical application of composite nanohybrids in the field of anti-corrosive coatings.

Multifunctional, responsive electromagnetic wave-absorbing materials (EMAs) with comprehensive performance are crucial for adapting to the ever-changing and extreme electromagnetic environment. To meet the demands of various application scenarios, we developed a compressible and thermally stable polyimide/reduced graphene oxide composite aerogel (PGA) via unidirectional freeze-drying and thermal annealing process. Polyimide endows the composite aerogel with outstanding thermal resistance and superior mechanical strength, with a weight loss of only 5 % at 440 °C and a compressive stress of up to 100 kPa at 60 % strain. Benefiting from the synergistic effect of porous structure and reasonable components, PGA exhibits an excellent minimum reflection loss of −58.32 dB and a broadened effective absorption bandwidth of 7.98 GHz (10.02–18.00 GHz) at a thickness of 3.9 mm. More importantly, compressing aerogels can alter their pore structure and conductive network to achieve high dynamic tunability of electromagnetic parameters, thereby enabling responsive microwave absorption performance. Notably, the PGA-18 successfully realizes complete coverage of the X and Ku bands through strain-induced regulation, confirming its applicability in ultra-broadband electromagnetic wave absorption. Additionally, the axially aligned lamellar structure and high porosity of the aerogel effectively suppress convective heat transfer and reduce thermal radiation, thereby imparting excellent thermal insulation and infrared stealth capabilities under high-temperature conditions. This work provides new insights into the design of multifunctional ultrawider EMAs with tunable electromagnetic characteristics, helping enable the next-generation electronic devices and stealth equipment.

During marine navigation, ships inevitably encounter corrosion and biofouling from seawater, necessitating anodes with superior performance for impressed current cathodic protection of hulls. In this study, a hybrid material comprising reduced graphene oxide (RGO) and carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs), along with a TiO 2 nanotube arrays (TNTs) interlayer, was introduced into a metal oxide-coated electrode. The RGO-CNTs/RuO 2 –IrO 2 –SnO 2 /TNTs electrode was fabricated via thermal decomposition, and its surface morphology, electrocatalytic activity, practical chlorine evolution and antibacterial performance, as well as accelerated life, were systematically evaluated. The underlying mechanisms by which the hybrid material and interlayer enhance anode performance were analyzed. The results indicate that the electrode achieves a difference of 0.430 V between chlorine evolution potential (CEP) and oxygen evolution potential (OEP), with an accelerated life of 232 h. It effectively exerts a stimulatory effect on microorganisms, thereby achieving superior biofouling resistance. This enhancement is likely attributable to the synergistic effects of RGO-CNTs and TNTs, including barrier effects, labyrinth effect, mechanical reinforcement, and optimized electron transport, which collectively improve the electrocatalytic activity and stability of the anode. This study provides valuable theoretical insights for enhancing the activity and stability of coated electrodes, holding significant promise for applications in marine corrosion protection.

In this study, rGO/Bi 2 O 2 CO 3 /BiOCl composite photocatalysts were prepared using a one-step solvothermal method . The formation and morphology of these photocatalysts were characterized through XRD , Raman, XPS , SEM , TEM, and other techniques. The efficiency of the composite photocatalysts was assessed by decreasing RhB under visible light . Among them, the photocatalytic activity of 4 wt% rGO/Bi 2 O 2 CO 3 /BiOCl was discovered to be the best, with a degradation rate as high as 96 % within 60 min. This is because the inclusion of rGO not only increased the specific surface area of the ternary materials, but also acted as a carrier for electrons transfer . Besides, the heterojunction structure constituted between Bi 2 O 2 CO 3 and BiOCl also opens up a new pathway for carrier separation. Finally, we explored the degradation mechanism of rGO/Bi 2 O 2 CO 3 /BiOCl ternary materials in detail. This study holds an important reference for the synthesis of bismuth-based composite photocatalysts and has potential applications in wastewater treatment .
