The dielectric performance of BaTiO 3 -based ceramic capacitors must be improved for further miniaturization and integration of energy storage devices. This study combines two optimization strategies, the grain refinement and high-entropy effect, to design BaTiO 3 -based high-entropy nanocrystalline ceramics: Ba(Ti 0.2 Zr 0.2 Nb 0.2 Y 0.2 Sn 0.2 )O 3 (HEO1) and Ba(Ti 0.2 Zr 0.2 Nb 0.2 Yb 0.2 Hf 0.2 )O 3 (HEO2). These ceramics were synthesized using fast hot-pressing sintering (FHPS), yielding HEO1-FHPS and HEO2-FHPS samples, both of which exhibit a pure perovskite structure, similar to that of samples fabricated via conventional solid-state sintering (CS), namely HEO1-CS and HEO2-CS. The relative densities of the HEO1-FHPS (96.18 %) and HEO2-FHPS (98.34 %) samples are higher than those of HEO1-CS (95.47 %) and HEO2-CS (95.40 %). In addition, the grain sizes of HEO1-FHPS (0.092 μm) and HEO2-FHPS (0.084 μm) are notably smaller than those of HEO1-CS (2.48 μm) and HEO2-CS (2.91 μm). The high relative density and small grain size of HEO1 and HEO2 improve their maximum permittivity, increase the Curie temperature and enhance dielectric stability. Furthermore, compared with HEO1-CS and HEO2-CS, HEO1-FHPS and HEO2-FHPS exhibit higher critical electric field strengths (359 and 389 kV/cm), greater recoverable energy densities (0.40 and 0.88 J/cm 3 ) and improved energy storage efficiencies (69.6 % and 70.4 %). These findings provide a promising approach for developing BaTiO 3 -based ceramics with enhanced dielectric performance.

Barium titanate (BaTiO₃) nanoparticles were synthesized via a hydrothermal method using barium hydroxide (Ba(OH)₂) and titanium oxide (TiO₂) as starting materials. The present study investigates the influence of TiO₂ sources on BaTiO3 nanoparticle crystallinity and morphology. A comprehensive statistical analysis was conducted, revealing a direct correlation between the phase and size of the TiO₂ and the properties of the BaTiO₃. Anatase TiO₂, with a size ranging from 5-30 nm, was found to yield uniform spherical BaTiO₃ nanoparticles with sizes ranging from 66.1 ± 9.4 nm to 80.3 ± 10.8 nm. Conversely, rutile TiO₂, with a size of 10 nm, yielded irregular particles with an average size of 386.6 ± 146.99 nm. XRD analysis demonstrated that smaller anatase TiO₂ (5 nm) exhibited a propensity to favor cubic-phase BaTiO₃, while larger anatase TiO₂ (10–30 nm) exhibited a propensity to promote tetragonal-phase dominance. Conversely, rutile-derived BaTiO₃ exhibited a mixed phase (tetragonal-to-cubic ratio: 2:3). Kinetic studies of precursor synthesis have demonstrated that 5 nm anatase TiO₂ facilitates the rapid nucleation of BaTiO₃ within 30 seconds, reaching full conversion. This is in contrast to the slower kinetics caused by larger anatase TiO₂ and the negligible reactivity observed for rutile TiO₂. These findings underscore the critical role of TiO2 phase and size in tailoring BaTiO3 nanoparticles for advanced dielectric applications, enabling precise control over particle size (60–80 nm) and crystallinity through precursor engineering.

The development of lead-free relaxor ferroelectric ceramics with high energy storage density has emerged as a critical area, driven by the increasing demand for advanced energy storage capacitors and high-power density devices. Conventional approaches to enhance energy-storage performance in lead-free dielectric ceramics typically rely on achieving ultrahigh breakdown field strength (Eb) or employing complex multicomponent composite strategies. However, the requirement for high electric fields hinders the miniaturization and integration of the devices. Furthermore, despite extensive research on the classic BaTiO3-based system, recoverable energy storage densities exceeding 6 J/cm3 remain exceedingly rare, especially under moderate electric fields (300 kV/cm < E < 500 kV/cm). In this paper, based on the relationship of energy storage among dielectric permittivity (εr) and electric field (Wcal=12ε0εrE2), we constructed a superparaelectric state near room temperature and improved εr by introducing centrosymmetric BiScO3 into a high εr matrix (Ba0.65Sr0.3Ca0.05Sn0.02Ti0.08O3). Ultimately, this strategy enables the realization of an ultrahigh energy storage density of 6.95 J/cm3 and a high energy efficiency of 86.17% under moderate electric fields (500 kV/cm). These findings provide a practical and innovative pathway for developing high-performance energy storage capacitors, advancing the potential for lead-free dielectric ceramics in next-generation energy storage technologies.

Polymer dielectrics suffer from inherently low dielectric constants, thereby limiting the energy density and hindering the miniaturization of high–voltage power equipment. Improving both the dielectric constant and the breakdown strength of materials is necessary to enhance the energy density. However, conventional approaches involving high–dielectric–constant inorganic fillers are often accompanied by a significant decrease in breakdown strength, constraining the optimized energy storage performance. This work utilized electrospinning to introduce a thin inorganic–doped inner layer, composed of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)–wrapped BaTiO 3 nanoparticle fibers, and employed polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) as the outer layer material. Combined with a hot–pressing process, a trilayer composite film was fabricated. Experimental results demonstrate that the fabricated trilayer composite films, featuring a thin inorganic–doped layer, exhibit breakdown strengths exceeding 500 kV/mm while maintaining high charge–discharge efficiencies (over 70 %). In particular, the film with a 5 wt % BaTiO 3 inner layer (denoted as PM–5 % B/P-PM) achieved a discharge energy density of 10.4 J/cm 3 at 548 kV/mm, with a charge–discharge efficiency surpassing 80 %. This structural design mitigated the significant reduction in breakdown strength often caused by excessively high inorganic filler contents. Meanwhile, combining electrospinning with hot–pressing was effective in controlling the dispersion of BaTiO 3 particles and enhancing the interfacial polarization effect, demonstrating simultaneous improvements in the energy density and insulation performance.

The escalating demand for energy harvesting technologies to power small wireless devices has intensified interest in triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs), yet challenges in energy conversion efficiency and durability persist. In this study, we present a novel core-shell BaTiO 3 @P(VDF-TrFE) nanofiber (BT@PVFT NF) structure, developed to enhance the triboelectric performance of TENGs for wearable and portable electronic applications. The BT@PVFT NF were fabricated using coaxial electrospinning , combining the high dielectric constant of BT with the ferroelectric properties of PVFT to maximize surface charge density and energy conversion efficiency. The morphological, structural, and phase characteristics of the BT@PVFT NFs were thoroughly investigated, with significant findings on the enhancement of the β-phase of PVFT through the synergistic effects of the core-shell configuration and electrospinning process . The optimized TENG demonstrated remarkable electrical output, achieving peak output voltage of 450 V and power density of 80 μW cm −2 , alongside exceptional durability over 15,500 cycles. Furthermore, the device successfully powered commercial electronics and exhibited robust mechanical energy harvesting from human motion. A novel strategy of enhancing the dielectric and energy storage properties of Na 0.5 Bi 0.5 TiO 3 –BaTiO 3 (NBT–BT) ceramics by introducing a K 0.5 Na 0.5 NbO 3 (KNN) ferroelectric phase is proposed herein, and its underlying mechanism is elucidated. The lead-free KNN ceramic decreases the residual polarisation and increases the electric breakdown strength of the NBT–BT matrix through the simultaneous modification of its A-sites and B-sites. The obtained NBT−BT− x −KNN ceramics have a perovskite structure with unifying grains. A bulk 0.9NBT–BT–0.1KNN ceramic sample with a thickness of 0.2 mm possesses a high energy storage density of 2.81 J/cm 3 at an applied electric field of 180 kV/cm. Moreover, it exhibits good insulation properties and undergoes rapid charge and discharge processes. Therefore, the obtained 0.9NBT–BT–0.1KNN ceramic can be potentially used in high-power applications because of its high energy density , good insulation properties, and large discharge rate.

A new hybrid core–shell structured nanocomposite, BaTiO 3 with surface grafted poly(sodium styrenesulfonate) (PSS) as core and conductive poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) as shell is prepared. TEM reveals the formation of core–shell structured BaTiO 3 @PEDOT nanoparticles, and the average size is about 220–260 nm with shell thickness of 20–60 nm. The dielectric and the electrochemical properties are studied with the composites as dielectric and electrode materials respectively. The as-prepared BaTiO 3 @PEDOT composite can serve as filler used in preparing polymer-based nanocomposite with high dielectric constant and low dielectric loss. The dielectric constant of the BaTiO 3 @PEDOT/PVDF composite is as high as 22 while the dielectric loss is only 0.12 at a frequency of 100 kHz with loading of 20 wt%. From cyclic voltammetry (CV) curves, the maximum specific capacitance of BaTiO 3 @PEDOT electrode can reach 63.7 F g −1 at 20 mV s −1 , which is almost 60 times greater than that of pure BaTiO 3 ( C m = 1.95 F g −1 ).

Polymeric piezo-damping composites with robust piezo-damping performance under high temperature steam conditions are highly desirable. In this study, we demonstrate a novel piezo-damping material, consisting of fluorinated (polyaryletherketone)-(polydimethylsiloxane) block copolymers (F-PAEK-b-PDMS) as matrix, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as conductive filler, and barium titanate (BT) as piezoelectric phase. Taking the advantages of hydrophobic property of PDMS and good thermal stability of F-PAEK, piezo-damping materials exhibit good stability under high temperature steam conditions. Furthermore, for the incompatibility between F-PAEK and PDMS, microphase separation appears, which can greatly increase the friction between molecules for better damping capability. Good damping performances that loss factor > 0.3 over a broad temperature range of 55–115 °C (≈60 °C) can be achieved. Those outstanding performances can effectively broaden the practical application of piezo-damping composites under harsh conditions.

(1− x ) BaTiO 3 – x BiYbO 3 (abbreviated as (1− x ) BT− x BY, x = 0, 0.03, 0.06 and 0.09) ferroelectric ceramics have been fabricated by conventional sintering (CS) and microwave sintering (MWS) methods. The microstructure, dielectric and ferroelectric properties of (1− x ) BT– x BY ceramics have been investigated systematically. X-ray diffraction patterns indicate all samples possess single perovskite phase and the crystal structure transforms from tetragonal to pseudo-cubic phase with increasing x . It can be also found that denser microstructure and finer grains can be obtained by MWS compared to CS as indicated by scanning electron microscopy. Dielectric measurements reveal that the addition of BY can lead to an obvious relaxation behavior in all samples, and the relaxation characteristics of MWS samples are stronger than those of CS samples. Moreover, the dielectric constant decreases with increasing BY content and the temperature stability and frequency stability of dielectric properties can be enhanced by using MWS method and addition of BY. P – E hysteresis loops become slimmer with the increase of BY content, and the ferroelectric properties of MWS samples are similar to those of CS samples. The leakage current of MWS sample is smaller than that of CS sample from J – E curve. The energy storage efficiency ( η ) increases with increasing BY content, while the energy storage density ( U ) increases and then decreases, U max is obtained at x = 0.06. These results demonstrate that MWS technique and moderate BY content are effective methods to prepare materials for energy storage application.

Polymer film capacitor with large power density is potentially embedded in energy suppliers and wearable devices. Currently, the strategy of polymer composite is an effective solution for the enhancement of energy density for dielectric film. Exploring the relation between neighboring interface and polarized response of composite is the primary route for the improvement of energy storage capability in polymer film. In this work, the interface with tailored electrical conductivity has been constructed in carbon-coated BaTiO 3 /poly(vinylidene fluoride-chlorotrifluoroethylene) (BT@C/P(VDF-CTFE)) composite. Core–shell BT@C particles with various calcined crystal structures were synthesized via sol–gel method with following carbonization. The calcination process affects the constitution of graphitic carbon that determines the electrical resistivity of received BT@C particles. The presence of carbon layer on the cubic BT core was evidenced by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and transmission electron microscope. BT@C/P(VDF-CTFE) composite with tailored conductive interface was prepared through the solution casting method. The electric displacement of composite is improved due to the interfacial polarization. The electrical resistivity depends on the permeation effect of interfacial carriers, resulting in the decrease of energy efficiency during charge–discharge cycle. The exploration between interface effect and polarization provides insightful prospects on interfacial design of polymer composite for film capacitor.

We reported the preparation of carbon nanotubes adhering BaTiO3 nanoparticles (BT@CNTs) via chemical vapor deposition (CVD). Scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscope and Raman spectroscopy were carried out in order to confirm the successful adhesion. Dielectric properties of the PVDF-HFP composites filled by BT@CNTs were also studied. With the content of BT@CNTs increasing, the dielectric constant of composites remarkably increased, but the loss tangent gradually decreased. At 10 vol%, the dielectric constant of the PVDF-HFP/BT@CNTs composite was significantly increased to 27.7 at 50 Hz, which was 3 times and 65% higher than that of the pure PVDF-HFP and PVDF-HFP/BT composite, respectively. The loss tangent of the PVDF-HFP/BT@CNTs composite was lower even than that of pure PVDF-HFP. These attractive features of the PVDF-HFP/BT@CNTs composites suggested that the method proposed herein was a new approach to develop high performance composites, especially those with high dielectric constant and low dielectric loss.

BaTiO 3 nanofillers can improve the electrochemical properties of PEO-based solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs). Therefore, we aimed to elucidate the effects of different shapes of BaTiO 3 nanofillers on PEO-based SPEs. Five weight percent of BaTiO 3 nanowires, nanocubes, and nanospheres were added into SPEs and membranes were prepared by solution casting method. Different BaTiO 3 nanofillers have different effects on the ionic conductivity and the electrochemical stable window of SPEs. For the SPE with BaTiO 3 nanospheres, it possesses the highest ionic conductivity of 1.8 × 10 −5 S cm −1 at 25 °C and 1.6 × 10 −3 S cm −1 at 80 °C. The LiFePO 4 /SPE with BaTiO 3 nanospheres/Li exhibits the highest initial discharge-specific capacity of 135.6 mAh g −1 at 0.1 C rate and the discharge-specific capacity remains 97.5% after 50 cycles at 80 °C. This work demonstrates that BaTiO 3 nanospheres are ideal nanofillers for SPEs, due to the highest specific surface area.
