Heavy metal pollution is a serious threat to human health and the ecological environment, but adsorption technology based on nano adsorbents can effectively treat the crisis. However, due to the nanoscale effect, nano adsorbents have some crucial shortcomings, such as recycling difficulty and the loss of nanoparticles, which seriously limit their application. The feasible assembly of nano adsorbents is an accessible technology in urgent need of a breakthrough. In this study, three-dimensional (3D) adsorbent (MF/Ti3C2Tx/PmPD) with excellent performance and favorable recyclability was prepared by interfacial polymerization with melamine foam (MF) as the framework, two-dimensional (2D) titanium carbide (Ti3C2Tx) as the bridge and Poly (m-Phenylenediamine) (PmPD) as the active nano component. The morphology, structure, mechanical property of MF/Ti3C2Tx/PmPD and reference MF/PmPD were investigated through a scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transformed infrared spectra (FT-IR), Raman scattering spectra and a pressure-stress test, respectively. Owning to the regulation of Ti3C2Txon the morphology and structure of PmPD, MF/Ti3C2Tx/PmPD showed excellent adsorption capacity (352.15 mg/g) and favorable cycling performance. R–P and pseudo-second-order kinetics models could well describe the adsorption phenomenon, indicating that the adsorption process involved a composite process of single-layer and multi-layer adsorption and was dominated by chemical adsorption. In this research, the preparation mechanism of MF/Ti3C2Tx/PmPD and the adsorption process of Cr(VI) were systematically investigated, which provided a feasible approach for the feasible assembly and application of nano adsorbents in the environmental field.

Although hydrophilic and electrically conductive transition-metal carbon/nitride (MXenes) nanosheets hold great promise for electrically conductive and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding applications, the weak interaction among MXene nanosheets makes them difficult to form compressible three-dimensional architectures with high conductivity. Herein, inspired by the plant “Parthenocissus tricuspidata”, an efficient approach is demonstrated to fabricate conductive and lightweight Ti3C2Tx MXene/acidified carbon nanotube anisotropic aerogels (MCAs) with superelasticity and high thermal insulation. The MXene nanosheets construct the anisotropic and porous skeleton, while the acidified carbon nanotubes reinforce the pore walls of MXene nanosheets, making the MCAs superelastic and compressible. The superelastic MCA with only 5 wt % of the acidified carbon nanotubes is structurally stable during cyclic compressions at both high and ultralow temperatures. Its high conductivity (447.2 S m–1) and ultralow density (9.1 mg cm–3) endow its paraffin composite with a high EMI shielding efficiency of ∼51 dB at an ultralow filler content of 0.3 vol %. When the density of MCA increases to 18.2 mg cm–3, its EMI shielding effectiveness reaches 90 dB. Additionally, the porous and ultralight MCAs exhibit better thermal insulation performances as compared to commercial melamine and polystyrene foams. Therefore, the superelastic, electrically conductive, lightweight, and thermally insulating MCAs would be promising for EMI shielding applications in space equipment and portable wearable devices.

Exploring efficient catalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is one of focus points of energy research. In this work, a series of MXene/Pt- x (wherein, x is the adding amount of 6.2 mM H 2 PtCl 6 solution) nanomaterials were fabricated via a facile synthesis method, in which coral-like Pt nanoparticles (NPs) were deposited on Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene. The Pt-loading amounts on the MXene could be simply controlled by varying the adding amounts of H 2 PtCl 6 , which would influence the sizes of Pt NPs on the MXene. The optimum catalytic activity was obtained on the MXene/Pt-3 with a low overpotential of 302 mV versus reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE) at 10 mA cm −2 , which was about 84 mV less than MXene/Pt-2. The efficiently electrocatalytic HER activity of MXene/Pt- x nanomaterials was due to the electron transfer from MXene to Pt NPs. The HER performance of the MXene/Pt- x nanomaterials was influenced by both Pt-loading amounts and Pt particle sizes. This work expands future applications of MXene-based nanomaterials in clean energy conversion reactions.

A high-performance ammonia (NH 3 ) gas sensor based on ZnO/Ti 3 C 2 T x composites was fabricated using the hydrothermal method. The gas sensitivity test results show that the composite of Ti 3 C 2 T x and ZnO improves the sensing performance of Ti 3 C 2 T x -based NH 3 sensor at room temperature. The response of ZnO/Ti 3 C 2 T x to 200 ppm NH 3 is 158.7 and the response/recovery time is 3.6 s/0.9 s. Additionally, the sensor demonstrated excellent humidity resistance and long-term stability. This improvement is attributed to the introduction of additional free oxygen species and oxygen vacancies on the Ti 3 C 2 T x surface by ZnO, exposing more active metallic Ti sites. Simultaneously, reducing the number of -OH groups increases the number of -F groups and enhances the polarity of the -OH groups. DFT studies indicate that higher surface oxygen vacancy density promotes the formation of highly active and unsaturated Ti sites, thereby enhancing strong chemical adsorption of NH 3 . Concurrently, the reduction in -OH groups increases the polarity of -OH, thereby improving the adsorption efficiency of NH 3 molecules. Thus, modulating the Ti 3 C 2 T x surface with metal oxides to reduce hydroxyl groups and increase oxygen vacancies promotes the formation of Ti metal sites, offering a novel approach for developing high-performance room-temperature NH 3 gas sensors based on Ti 3 C 2 T x .

Modulating the electromagnetic properties of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene to produce an ideal multifunctional and efficient microwave absorbent is a challenging research hotspot. Although the atomic layer deposited transition magnetic metal nanostructures are a feasible strategy, the effects of the components and microstructure of the introduced magnetic nanostructure on the electromagnetic wave absorption performances of the MXene are still far from clear. Here, the Fe element has been selected as the modifier, and a heterostructure Fe/Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene hybrid is constructed by the atomic layer deposition of Fe nanoparticles on the Ti 3 C 2 T x nanosheets. The influences of the deposition cycles on the chemical composition, microstructure, electromagnetic response characteristics, and microwave absorption properties are investigated. The results show that the decoration of Fe nanoparticles enables a tunable electromagnetic performance. The Fe/Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene hybrid achieves an optimal attenuation with the minimum reflection loss of -82.94 dB at a small thickness of 1.16 mm, corresponding with an effective absorption bandwidth of 3.76 GHz. The strong microwave absorption is attributed to the dielectric-magnetic synergy in the MXene and Fe nanoparticles, which provides excellent impedance matching, interfacial and dipolar polarization loss, and magnetic resonance loss. Specifically, the hybrid endows a low Fe content of 2.66 wt%. This is important for the design of a lightweight absorber with high attenuation efficiency.

Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene-based coaxial zinc-ion hybrid fiber supercapacitors (FSCs) were fabricated with braided structure, which can be prepared continuously and present excellent flexibility and ultrastability.
A sports watch driven by the watch belts which weaved uses the obtained zinc-ion hybrid FSC and LED arrays lighted by the FSCs under embedding into textiles, demonstrating the great potential application in smart wearable textiles.
Abstract Zinc-ion hybrid fiber supercapacitors (FSCs) are promising energy storages for wearable electronics owing to their high energy density, good flexibility, and weavability. However, it is still a critical challenge to optimize the structure of the designed FSC to improve energy density and realize the continuous fabrication of super-long FSCs. Herein, we propose a braided coaxial zinc-ion hybrid FSC with several meters of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene cathode as core electrodes, and shell zinc fiber anode was braided on the surface of the Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene fibers across the solid electrolytes. According to the simulated results using ANSYS Maxwell software, the braided structures revealed a higher capacitance compared to the spring-like structures. The resulting FSCs exhibited a high areal capacitance of 214 mF cm –2 , the energy density of 42.8 μWh cm −2 at 5 mV s −1 , and excellent cycling stability with 83.58% capacity retention after 5000 cycles. The coaxial FSC was tied several kinds of knots, proving a shape-controllable fiber energy storage. Furthermore, the knitted FSC showed superior stability and weavability, which can be woven into watch belts or embedded into textiles to power smart watches and LED arrays for a few days.

MXenes (Ti 3 C 2 T x ), a novel two-dimensional (2D) material, exhibits higher application potential in many fields due to the layered-structure and other unique characteristics. Here, the few-layer Ti 3 C 2 T x is successfully fabricated via etching and ultrasonic. The [3-(2-Aminoethyl) aminopropyl] trimethoxy silane (silane coupling agent, AEAPTES) is used to modify the as-prepared Ti 3 C 2 T x for adjusting wettability . Then, the functional Ti 3 C 2 T x (Ti 3 C 2 @Si) with different amount is introduced into waterborne polyurethane (WPU) for enhancing corrosion resistance performance. The corrosion resistance performance is evaluated by Tafel curve and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy . The results of wettability reveal that the hydrophobicity of Ti 3 C 2 @Si is significantly improved with the water contact up to 136–142°. The results of anti-corrosion measurement demonstrate that the WPU endowed with Ti 3 C 2 @Si presents the excellent corrosion resistance performance. The 0.1%Ti 3 C 2 @Si/WPU exhibits the lowest corrosion current density (2.67 × 10 −9 A/cm 2 ) and the largest corrosion resistance (3.05 × 10 6 Ω). Moreover, after 42 days’ immersion, the lowest frequency impedance of 0.1%Ti 3 C 2 @Si/WPU composite coating was 3.68 × 10 6 Ω cm 2 . This work is of great importance for potential applications of Ti 3 C 2 T x in the anti-corrosion field.

Two-dimensional titanium carbide (Ti 3 C 2 T x ) MXene has many distinctive advantages, including high conductivity, energy-storing, catalysis, etc. In particular, its accordion-like lamellar structure could provide excellent barrier properties to corrosive agents, which exhibit potential application value for anti-corrosion coatings. However, the problem that MXenes are susceptible to oxidative degradation in an aggressive environment limits its further application in the field of corrosion prevention. Herein, in our work for the first time, an effective method was developed for protecting sensitive Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene against oxidation by imidazolium salt modification (I-Ti 3 C 2 T x ), which considerably increased MXene antioxidant stability. The crystalline structure of I-Ti 3 C 2 T x remained unaltered in an aqueous solution for 30 days and kept the lamellar structure for a long period. Simultaneously, 1.0 wt% I-Ti 3 C 2 T x /EP could provide excellent anti-corrosion protection. A new synergistic mechanism for improving antioxidant stability and anti-corrosion property of I-Ti 3 C 2 T x /EP coatings was developed and clarified based on the free radical scavenging ability of imidazolium ions and the chemical characteristics of MXene.

Two-dimensional Ti 3 C 2 T x MXenes exposing different active facets are introduced into MgH 2 , and their catalytic effects are systematically investigated in depth through experimental and theoretical approaches. Excluding factors such as interlayer space, surface functional groups and experimental contingency, the exposed facets is considered to be the dominant factor for catalytic activity of Ti 3 C 2 T x towards MgH 2 . More exposed edge facets of Ti 3 C 2 T x displays higher catalytic activity than that with more exposed basal facets, which also leads to different rate-controlling steps of MgH 2 in the de/hydrogenation process. The low work function, strong hydrogen affinity and high content of in situ metallic Ti for the edge facet contribute the high catalytic activity. This work will give insights into the structural design of two-dimensional Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene used for enhancing the catalytic activity in various fields.

Developing a room temperature, real-time, and efficient sensor for trimethylamine (TMA) detection remains a challenge in food safety and disease screening. Ti 3 C 2 T x , a two-dimensional material with abundant surface functional groups, is expected to form sensing materials of low operating temperature when combined with metal oxides. In this work, a series of Ti 3 C 2 T x -CuGa 2 O 4 composites were prepared using the hydrothermal method. The gas-sensing experiment found that the response values of composites were improved towards TMA at room temperature (RT). Notably, the 9.1 wt% Ti 3 C 2 T x -CuGa 2 O 4 (MCU-10) composite exhibited a response value of 33.5 towards 100 ppm TMA-a 26.8-fold enhancement compared with CuGa 2 O 4 , with a response time of 4.3 s and a recovery time of 25.7 s. Meanwhile, the MCU-10 sensor showed outstanding gas-sensing selectivity, repeatability, and long-term stability in the sensing process. The reasons of enhanced gas-sensing properties are attributed to the incorporation of abundant surface functional groups and the higher content of oxygen vacancies. Besides, a potential explanation for the abnormal sensing behavior of CuGa 2 O 4 towards reducing gases is proposed. This work not only proposes a promising sensing material for TMA gas sensors but also highlights the potence of Ti 3 C 2 T x as a sensitizing agent in the field of gas-sensing materials.

Electromagnetic shielding (EMS) fabrics have the bottlenecks of the difficulty to improve the shielding effectiveness (SE) and the lacking of absorbing properties. Finishing fabrics with Ti3C2Tx are expected to be a fast and effective way to solve these problems. In this paper, two kinds of main EMS fabrics of the stainless steel blending and copper–nickel coating are selected. Ti3AlC2 is etched using hydrochloric acid and lithium fluoride in situ to generate hydrofluoric acid to prepare multilayer Ti3C2Tx. The finishing experiments of the fabric with Ti3C2Tx impregnation are designed. The influence of multilayer Ti3C2Tx on the shielding and absorbing properties of the EMS fabric are studied. The results show that the multilayer Ti3C2Tx can be prepared and dispersed as the treatment by the proposed method. For the blended fabric, the Ti3C2Tx micro-media are absorbed or are infiltrated into the fibers in most cases. For the coated fabric, the Ti3C2Tx micro-media are on the surface of the fabric. The SE of the blended fabric in a frequency range of 6.57–18 GHz and the copper plated nickel fabric in a frequency range of 6.57–16 GHz are enhanced. At the same time, the absorbing performances of the two types of fabrics in a high frequency band above 11.97 GHz are improved. This paper can provide a new efficient and low-cost method to improve the performance of the EMS fabric and provide a reference for the design, production and evaluation of new absorbing EMS fabrics.

Two-dimensional Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene exhibits promising application prospects in the field of resistive random-access memory (RRAM) owing to its unique layered structure, abundant surface functional groups, and tunable band structure. However, the modulation of its electronic structure is critical for promoting the application of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene in such semiconductor devices. Herein, chitosan (CS) was incorporated with Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene to construct CS-MXene composite films, which were subsequently employed as the resistive layer in the RRAM devices. The conductivity of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene can be switched from a metallic-like state to a semiconducting state, and the resistive switching behaviors of CS-MXene hybrid films could be regulated by adjusting the mass ratio of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene to CS. When the mass ratio of two components was 0.5, the as-fabricated Al/CS-MXene/ITO/glass device exhibited the most outstanding resistive switching (RS) performance, characterized by a lower operating voltage, a higher on/off ratio, excellent retention, and reliable endurance. Mechanistic analysis revealed that the RS behavior originates from the electron trapping/detrapping dynamics within the CS-MXene resistive layer. This work demonstrates high-performance RRAM devices based on CS-MXene composites, offering a feasible strategy for modulating the electronic structure of two-dimensional Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene.
