Titanium carbide (Ti 3 C 2 T x ) MXene has attracted broad interest owing to its versatile functional properties. However, its intrinsic instability in aqueous environments drives spontaneous surface oxidation to insulating TiO 2 , resulting in pronounced performance degradation and posing a major obstacle to practical utilization. Here, we propose an erasure-purification strategy that selectively targets surface-derived oxide phases on oxidized MXene. By constructing an ion-confined interfacial environment followed by a brief acid-washing step, further oxidation is mitigated while pre-existing TiO 2 is selectively removed. The recovered MXene exhibits restored colloidal stability and can be reassembled into conductive films delivering high volumetric capacitance and favorable rate performance. In addition, the purified MXene demonstrates competitive low-frequency electromagnetic attenuation and low infrared emissivity in assembled forms. This approach is applicable to MXene with different morphologies and oxidation states, offering a practical and generalizable route for reclaiming and reusing oxidized MXene materials.

Al-ion batteries (AIBs) have emerged as a promising energy storage technology due to their high theoretical capacity, cost-effectiveness, and superior safety. However, the lack of stable and efficient cathode materials capable of reversible Al-complex ion (e.g., [AlCl 4 ] − ) insertion/extraction remains a critical challenge. In this work, we developed TiNbCT x MXene as a high-performance cathode material for AIBs, achieving remarkable capacity and cycling stability. Unlike symmetric-structured Ti 2 CT x , the TiNbCT x cathode leverages synergistic Ti–Nb bimetallic effects to enhance the electronic conductivity and electrochemical activity. Here we show, TiNbCT x delivers a high reversible capacity of 194 mAh·g −1 at 0.2 A·g −1 with 800-cycle stability. Through combined experimental characterization and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, we elucidate the kinetic mechanisms of energy storage, offering fundamental insights for the rational design of advanced cathode materials in AIBs.

The rapid, accurate and highly sensitive detection of acetylcholine, which was one of the neurotransmitters related to a variety of neurodegenerative diseases has great significance for disease screening, treatment and prognosis. This paper proposed a GNRs/Ti 3 C 2 MXene enhanced optical fiber LSPR acetylcholine biosensor by depositing Ti 3 C 2 MXene nanosheets on the surface of a GNRs-based optical fiber sensing probe via simple electrostatic self-assembly. The refractive index sensitivity of the biosensor was improved due to the advantages of the large specific surface area, hydrophilicity and broadband absorption spectrum of 2D Ti 3 C 2 MXene nanosheets. The refractive index sensitivity of the biosensor with Ti 3 C 2 MXene nanosheets was improved by 44 % compared to that of the GNRs-based biosensor. The biosensor had a good linear relationship in the range of 0–900 μM for acetylcholine concentration with a sensitivity of 0.0304 nm/μM and the detection limit was 6.58 μM. The results indicated that the proposed GNRs/Ti 3 C 2 MXene enhanced optical fiber LSPR acetylcholine biosensor provides a promising avenue of detection for in biotechnology and medicine files.

With the increasingly prominent energy and environmental issues, the supercapacitors, as a highly efficient and clean energy conversion and storage devices, meet the requirements well. However, it is still a challenge to enhance the capacitance and energy density of supercapacitors. A novel and highly conductive dodecaborate/MXene composites have been designed for high performance supercapacitors. The surface charge property of MXene was modified by a simple ultrasonic treatment with ammonium ion, and the dodecaborate ion can be inserted into the inner surface of MXene by electrostatic adsorption. Due to the unique icosahedral cage conjugate structure formed by the B-B bond and the highly delocalized three-dimensional π bond structure of the electrons, the negative charge is delocalied on the whole dodecaborate ion, which reduces the ability to bind to cations. Therefore, the cations can move easily, and the dodecaborate can act as a “lubricant” for ion diffusion between the MXene layers, which significantly improves the ion transfer rate of supercapacitors. The dodecaborate/MXene composites can achieve an extremely high specific capacitance of 366 F.g -1 at a scan rate of 2 mV.s -1 , which is more than eight times higher than that of MXene (43 F 1- ) at the same scan rate. Our finding provides a novel route on the fabrication of the high performance supercapacitors.

Direct photosynthesis of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) from air and water using metal/covalent-organic frameworks offers a sustainable alternative to the conventional energy-intensive anthraquinone process. However, current systems suffer from short operational lifetimes typically 10–100 h due to mismatches between O 2 capture efficiency and multielectron redox kinetics. Here, we report a supramolecular platform that integrates O 2 capture, H 2 O 2 synthesis, and in situ utilization, enabling continuous H 2 O 2 production for over 1000 h without sacrificial agents. Mesoporous bromine-substituted COFs are hydrogen-bonded to photothermal MXene, providing organized O 2 docking sites and columnar charge transport via σ-σ interactions and π-π stacking. Through a dual-pathway mechanism, the architecture achieves a competitive H 2 O 2 production rate of 2878 μmol g −1 h −1 , alongside complete pollutant removal and durable operation across diverse water sources and outdoor conditions. This work demonstrates a supramolecular design featuring programmable O 2 docking, directional charge transport, and localized H 2 O 2 utilization toward decentralized chemical manufacturing.

MXenes are a group of two-dimensional transition metal carbides/nitrides that have been widely used for many useful applications such as energy storage, catalysis and sensors. For large scale applications of MXenes, the ambient stability is a critical issue. However, the detailed degradation mechanism of MXenes remains largely unclear. Here, the oxidation mechanism of MXene flakes under ambient conditions has been studied using aberration corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM). The heterogeneous growth of titanium oxide has been observed in the vicinity of atomic defects on the MXene basal plane as well as on the edges of MXene flakes. C atoms are oxidized at Ti-vacancies to form amorphous carbon aggregations, while Ti cations are oxidized at the nearby sites with atomic steps/edges. The diffusion of both electrons and Ti cations is involved and the Ti-ion diffusion is prompted by an internal electric field intrinsically built up during oxidation. The anatase TiO2 nanoparticles preferentially grow along the {101} lattice plane. A loose orientation relationship between the anatase TiO2 and MXene was identified, showing that mostly the {101} plane of TiO2 nanocrystals is perpendicular to the Ti3C2-MXene {0001} basal plane. This work reveals at atomic resolution the oxidation mechanism of MXenes under ambient conditions and will shed light on the design and synthesis of more stable MXenes. It may also provide insights to develop a one-step method to synthesize hybrid structures of carbon supported TiO2 nanoparticles for future large scale applications.

Noble metal nanozymes hold promise in cancer therapy due to adjustable enzyme-like activities, unique physicochemical properties, etc. But catalytic activities of monometallic nanozyme are confined. In this study, 2D titanium carbide (Ti 3 C 2 T x )-supported RhRu alloy nanoclusters (RhRu/Ti 3 C 2 T x ) are prepared by a hydrothermal method and utilized for synergistic therapy of chemodynamic therapy (CDT), photodynamic therapy (PDT), and photothermal therapy (PTT) on osteosarcoma. The nanoclusters are small in size (3.6 nm), uniform in distribution, and have excellent catalase (CAT) and peroxidase (POD)-like activities. Density functional theory calculations show that there is a significant electron transfer interaction between RhRu and Ti 3 C 2 T x , which has strong adsorption to H 2 O 2 and is beneficial to enhance the enzyme-like activity. Furthermore, RhRu/Ti 3 C 2 T x nanozyme acts as both PTT agent for converting light into heat, and photosensitizer for catalyzing O 2 to 1 O 2 . With the NIR-reinforced POD- and CAT-like activity, excellent photothermal and photodynamic performance, the synergistic CDT/PDT/PTT effect of RhRu/Ti 3 C 2 T x on osteosarcoma is verified by in vitro and in vivo experiments. This study is expected to provide a new research direction for the treatment of osteosarcoma and other tumors.

MXenes have received lots of attention since discovered and have been applied in various fields. In this work, Ti3C2–Fe3O4 composites with exposed non-modified Ti3C2 MXene nanosheets were designed and prepared by an in situ growth strategy and then applied in the enrichment of phosphopeptides. The two-dimensional composites could interact with the phosphopeptides through a metal oxide affinity chromatography mechanism provided by Ti–O and Fe–O bonds and a hydrophilic interaction chromatography mechanism by surface hydroxyl groups. This magnetic nanomaterial with a specific surface area of 66.1 m2·g–1 had high sensitivity to phosphopeptides (0.5 nmol·L–1) and high selectivity (1:1000 of the molar ratio of β-casein to bovine serum albumin). Non-fat milk was adopted as a real sample to preliminarily examine the applicability of the Ti3C2–Fe3O4-based protocol. Subsequently, Qingkailing injection, a kind of traditional Chinese medicine injection, was introduced to further explore the suitability of the nanocomposites for phosphopeptide enrichment from more complex matrices and satisfactory results were obtained.

MXene-based supercapacitors are promising electrochemical energy-storage devices due to their ultrahigh volumetric capacitance, high-power characteristics, and excellent cyclability. However, they suffer from severe self-discharging behavior while the underlying self-discharging mechanism is still unclear. Here, the self-discharge behavior of MXene-based supercapacitors from surface electronic structure of MXenes is disclosed, and a novel method to mitigate it is proposed. A superficial engineering strategy based on bio-thermal treatment is developed to effectively tailor surface electronic structure of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXenes by eliminating hydroxyl terminations. With the evolution of surface electronic structure, as revealed by Kelvin probe force microscope and synchrotron radiation X-ray absorption fine structure analysis, MXene-based supercapacitors with common aqueous electrolytes show >20% decline in self-discharge rate. This decline mechanism originates from the increased work function that induces higher zero-charge potential after the removal of hydroxyl groups in MXenes. Meanwhile, the strengthened surface dipole leads to higher surface free energy between MXene and electrolytes. These two positive effects endow MXenes with weaker self-discharge kinetics. Specifically, the activation-controlled self-discharge process is greatly suppressed. Illuminating the relevance between electronic structure and self-discharge accompanying superficial engineering suppression strategy can guide to development of high-performance energy storage devices.

Degradable wearable electronics offer a promising route to construct sustainable cities and reduced carbon society. However, the difficult functionalization and the poor stability of degradable sensitive materials dramatically restrict their application in personalized healthcare assessment. Herein, we developed a scalable, low-cost, and porosity degradable MXene-polylactic acid textile (DMPT) for on-body biomonitoring via electrospinning. A combination of polydimethylsiloxane templating and MXene flake impregnation methods endows the fabricated DMPT with a sensitivity of 5.37/kPa, a fast response time of 98 ms, and a good mechanical stability (over 6000 cycles). An efficient degradation of as-electrospun DMPTs was observed in 1 wt % sodium carbonate solution. It is found that the incorporation of MXene nanosheets boosts the hydrophilicity and degradation efficiency of active polylactic acid nanofibrous films in comparison with the pristine counterpart. Furthermore, the as-received DMPT demonstrates great capability in monitoring physiological activities of wrist pulse, knuckle bending, swallowing, and vocalization. This work opens up a new paradigm for developing and optimizing high-performance degradable on-body electronics.

It remains a formidable challenge to prepare an economical and stable electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction using non-precious metals. In this study, MXene (Ti3C2Tx) nanosheets were prepared by high-energy ultrasound treatment, and Cu nanoparticles were prepared by NaBH4as a reducing agent. Then, the electrocatalyst Cu/Ti3C2Tx, suitable for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), was prepared by supporting Cu with Ti3C2Tx. The structure, morphology, crystal phase and valence state of the obtained catalyst were determined by a variety of characterization analysis methods, and the influence of these properties on the catalytic performance is discussed here. The results of Brunner–Emmet–Teller (BET) showed that Ti3C2Txcan effectively inhibit Cu agglomeration. Results of Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) showed that Cu has metallic and oxidized states. X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) further revealed the existence of multivalent states in Cu, which would contribute to the formation of electron transfer channels and the enhancement of electrocatalytic activity. In addition, the Cu/Ti3C2Txcatalyst has strong hydrophilicity, as measured by contact angle, which is conducive to HER. Ti3C2Txhas acceptable electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution performance: under alkaline conditions, when the current density is 10 mA cm−2, HER overpotential is as low as 128 mV and the Tafel slope is as low as 126 mV dec−1. Meanwhile, Ti3C2Txshowed adequate stability for HER (94.0% of the initial mass activity after 1000 CV cycles). This work offers insights into the development of high-performance non-precious metal-based catalysts to achieve the high performance of HER in alkaline electrolytes. Keywords:hydrogen evolution reaction;electrocatalyst;Cu;MXene (Ti3C2Tx) nanosheets

MXene has been the subject of various studies and applications in polymer composites in recent years. However, its compatibility with hydrophobic polymers has been a significant limitation. This study presents a simple way to create MXene frameworks to realise flame retardant hydrophobic polymer composites. The fabrication process is environmentally friendly and low-cost. The PVB/HPUPO/MXene composite membrane showed a 74.7% reduction in volatile intensity during thermal degradation compared to pristine PVB. The PVB/HPUPO/MXene composite membrane also demonstrated significantly improved flame retardancy compared to pure PVB. Specifically, MXene based networks and HPUPO showed synergistic effect in improving the fire safety of PVB composites. This study offers a new approach to incorporating MXene as a flame retardant into conventional phosphorus- and nitrogen-based flame retardant systems for hydrophobic polymers with great fire retardancy.
