Catalytic therapy with enzymes and nanozymes is a promising approach to cancer treatment. However, it often proves inadequate when used as a standalone treatment. This work presents the catalase (CAT)-like activity of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene , a kind of two-dimensional (2D) material with photothermal capability. Ti 3 C 2 T x nanosheets were then used to load glucose oxidase (GOx) and the anticancer drug doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX), and modified with polyethylene glycol (PEG) to obtain an enzyme cascade system , named Ti 3 C 2 T x -GOx/DOX-PEG, for anticancer purposes. Ti 3 C 2 T x -GOx/DOX-PEG exhibited a photothermal conversion efficiency of ∼28.7% at 808 nm, enabling its use for near-infrared light-based photothermal therapy (PTT). In addition, Ti 3 C 2 T x could decompose H 2 O 2 to O 2 in cancer cells, thereby enhancing starvation therapy by sensitizing GOx. Furthermore, alleviation of hypoxia could sensitize the chemotherapy of DOX. The decomposition of glucose by GOx could also generate H 2 O 2 for the production of O 2 by Ti 3 C 2 T x . Ultimately, the cycling of the enzyme cascade reaction could alleviate tumor hypoxia and enable enhanced chemo/starvation/photothermal combination therapy. The CAT-like behavior of Ti 3 C 2 T x as well as various enzymatic reactions catalyzed by Ti 3 C 2 T x -GOx/DOX-PEG were systematically investigated by intra- and extracellular experiments. Results from both in vitro and in vivo studies demonstrated the effective anticancer capability of Ti 3 C 2 T x -GOx/DOX-PEG. This enzyme cascade system has the potential to enhance material utilization and reduce side effects, thus opening up new opportunities for designing efficient and safe anticancer systems.

Undesirable electromagnetic interference (EMI) created by modern electronic devices has detrimental effects on the performance of high-precision electronic devices, information security, and human health. Therefore, lightweight, flexible, robust, and easy-to-fabricate EMI shielding materials with integrated functions are highly desirable to combat electromagnetic pollution. Herein, we report a scalable and facile strategy to prepare a flexible Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene-coated aramid paper (MAP) with high-efficiency EMI shielding and excellent electrical heating performance. The intertwined network by aramid fibers endows the aramid paper (AP) with superior mechanical properties. After selectively single/dual coating with MXene onto AP, the MAP maintains a superior tensile strength of 73.6 MPa and enormous folding endurance of 4156 times. Owing to the exceptional electrical conductivity of MXene, the MAP with a relatively low MXene content (∼9.0 wt%) exhibits excellent overall performance with an EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) of 38 dB and SE/t of 422.2 dB mm −1 . It’s noteworthy that the EMI SE of the MAP remains almost unchanged (37.4 dB) even after experiencing 5,000 repeated bending cycles. Additionally, the MAP shows satisfactory Joule electric-heating capability (a heating temperature rise of 130 °C at a low driving voltage of 5 V) and excellent flame-retardancy. This work provides a feasible strategy for large-scale production of flexible EMI shielding paper with multifunctional properties for future wearable facilities.

Flexible wearable strain sensors have received extensive attention in human–computer interaction, soft robotics, and human health monitoring. Despite significant efforts in developing stretchable electronic materials and structures, developing flexible strain sensors with stable interfaces and low hysteresis remains a challenge. Herein, Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene/AgNWs/liquid metal strain sensors (MAL strain sensor) with self-healing function are developed by exploiting the strong interactions between Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene/AgNWs/LM and the disulfide and hydrogen bonds inside the self-healing poly(dimethylsiloxane) elastomers. AgNWs lap the Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene sheets, and the LM acts as a bridge to increase the lap between Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene and AgNWs, thereby improving the interface interaction between them and reducing hysteresis. The MAL strain sensor can simultaneously achieve high sensitivity (gauge factor for up to 3.22), high linearity ( R 2 = 0.98157), a wide range of detection (e.g., 1%–300%), a fast response time (145 ms), excellent repeatability, and stability. In addition, the MAL strain sensor before and after self-healing is combined with a small fish and an electrothermally driven soft robot, respectively, allowing real-time monitoring of the swinging tail of the small fish and the crawling of the soft robot by resistance changes.

Two-dimensional (2D) Ti 3 C 2 T x MXenes show great potential for application in flexible supercapacitors, due to their good hydrophilicity, metallic conductivity and excellent flexibility. Surface modification of the MXenes by heteroatom doping is a good strategy for adjusting the layer spacing and alleviateing various shortcomings. Herein, the ammonium salt decomposition method is shown to allow rapid nitrogen doping into Ti 3 C 2 T x nanosheets at a low temperature of 350 °C. Compared to the raw Ti 3 C 2 T x , the nitrogen-doped Ti 3 C 2 T x (designated N-Ti 3 C 2 T x ) shows an increased layer spacing of 1.451 nm, nitrogen doping levels of 1.42 at% and a low number of residual fluorine functional groups. For the application as an electrode of supercapacitors, the N-Ti 3 C 2 T x electrode shows an outstanding pseudocapacitance performance and mechanical flexibility, with a high specific capacitance of up to 449 F g −1 at 2 mV s −1 , which is 1.4 times that of the raw Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene (i.e., 321 F g −1 ). Furthermore, a quasi-solid-state symmetric supercapacitor assembled with a H 2 SO 4 -PVA gel electrolyte is shown to deliver an energy density of 9.57 Wh kg −1 at 250 W kg −1 . The outstanding pseudocapacitance of the N-Ti 3 C 2 T x is attributed to the positive effect of nitrogen doping on MXene, such as larger layer spacing and the increased number of surface active sites. The strategy presented herein also opens up a convenient and versatile approach for preparing high performance MXene Materials for energy conversion and storage.

Flexible wearable sensors have the characteristics of flexibility, comfort, and wearability, and have shown great potential in future electronic products. Despite significant efforts in developing stretchable electronic materials and structures, the development of flexible strain sensors with a wide temperature range, high sensitivity, broad detection range, and good interface stability remains challenging. Here, strain sensors with buckled structures are fabricated using high and low-temperature resistant material Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene/graphene, PDMS 184. The conductive material Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene/graphene exhibits excellent interface interaction with PDMS 184, addressing not only the poor compatibility issue between the conductive material and the flexible substrate, but also demonstrating good stability and cycling performance. Buckled structure improves the stretchability and linearity of strain sensors. The fabricated strain sensor is suitable for a wide temperature range (−40 to 120 °C) and exhibits high stretchability (120% strain). The strain sensor demonstrates rapid response times at different temperatures: −40 (72.6 ms), 0 (62.7 ms), and 120 °C (52.7 ms). The strain sensor exhibits high sensitivity at different temperatures: −40 (GF = 0.38), 0 (GF = 0.24), 40 (GF = 0.66), and 120 °C (GF = 1.47). The strain sensor has a wide detection range (0.1% to 120%) and excellent cycling stability. In addition, Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene/graphene strain sensors can accurately capture various human activities, such as blinking, speaking, finger bending, and wrist bending.

Two-dimensional transition metal carbides/nitrides (MXenes) have gained considerable prominence in capacitive deionization (CDI) due to their exceptional electrochemical activity and outstanding electronic conductivity. However, the further development of MXenes in practical applications in CDI is hampered by their limited narrow interlayer spacing and oxidation proneness. Herein, a dual-functional surface modification of Ti3C2Tx MXene by sodium ascorbate (SA) is proposed to concurrently enhance the salt adsorption capacity and long-term stability. The modification by SA induces synergistic functions, including the enlargement of interlayer spacing, effective protection of Ti from oxidation, and exceptional electrical conductivity. Simultaneously, this film electrode is designed to be flexible and free-standing, devoid of binders or adhesives, showing promise for the large-scale production of CDI electrodes. Benefiting from these advantages, the SA-modified MXene exhibit excellent desalination performance, including high salt adsorption capacity (109.6 mg g−1), high salt adsorption rates (17.5 mg g−1 min−1), and impressive cycling stability (100% retention after 80 cycles). And the adsorption behavior of SA-modified MXenes is further investigated by in situ X-ray diffraction and density functional theory calculations. This work proposes an effective modification and explores theoretical aspects for fabricating MXene-based electrodes suitable for CDI and other electrochemical applications in moist or aqueous environments.

Rechargeable lithium-oxygen batteries (LOBs) are acknowledged as potential candidates for advanced energy storage devices as a result of their considerable theoretical energy densities . Nevertheless, they encounter significant challenges throughout discharging and recharging phases, including the difficult decomposition of Li 2 O 2 products, sluggish reaction kinetics, and limited cycle stability. In this study, an efficient catalyst was synthesized by in situ growth of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs)-derived cobalt manganese layered double hydroxide (CoMn-LDH) array on Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene nanosheets (CoMn-LDH@Ti 3 C 2 T x ). The LOBs with CoMn-LDH@Ti 3 C 2 T x cathode demonstrated high discharge specific capacity of 27.61 Ah g −1 at 100 mA g −1 and an extended cycle stability of over 224 cycles at 500 mA g −1 . Density functional theory (DFT) computations showed that CoMn-LDH@Ti 3 C 2 T x facilitates electron redistribution, optimising the adsorption energy of intermediates, thereby lowering the energy barriers for oxygen reduction reactions (ORR) and oxygen evolution reactions (OER). Consequently, this work presents a multi-level nanostructured catalyst preparation strategy derived from MOFs, offering new insights for the fabrication of efficient electrocatalytic materials.

The propensity of Li to form irregular and nonplanar electrodeposits has become a fundamental barrier for fabricating Li metal batteries. Here, a planar, dendrite-free Li metal growth on 2D Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene is reported. Ab initio calculations suggest that Li forms a hexagonal close-packed ( hcp ) layer on the surface of Ti 3 C 2 T x via ionic bonding and the lattice confinement. The ionic bonding weakens gradually after a few monolayers, resulting in a nanometers-thin transition region of hcp -Li. Above this transition region, the deposition is dominated by plating of body-centered cubic ( bcc ) Li via metallic bonding. Formation of a dense and planar Li metal anode with preferential growth along the (110) facet is explained by the lattice matching between Ti 3 C 2 T x and hcp -Li and then with bcc -Li, as well as preferred thermodynamic factors including the large dendrite formation energy and small migration barrier for Li. The prepared Li metal anode shows stable cycling in a wide current density range from 0.5 to 10.0 mA cm –2 . The LiFePO 4 ‖Li full cell fabricated with this Li metal anode exhibits only 9.5% capacity fading after 500 charge–discharge cycles at 1 C rate.

Ethylene glycol is odorless and harmful to humans. Each year, a large number of fatal cases are caused by ethylene glycol poisoning. Therefore, rapid identification of ethylene glycol is crucial. In this study, clay-like Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene exhibits a larger interlayer spacing compared to accordion-like Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene, which enhances the gas diffusion channels. Nitrogen doping can increase the active sites of clay-like Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene. The introduction of nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes into N-Ti 3 C 2 T x was carried out to enhance selectivity towards ethylene glycol, leading to the formation of N-Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene/N-CNTs. The N-Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene/N-CNTs exhibits significant selectivity towards the ethylene glycol at room temperature. Meanwhile, the detection limit was 0.3484 ppm, with a shortened response/recovery time of 10.57/6.29 s. Meanwhile, the ethylene glycol sensor device has been prepared through custom-made circuit boards and sensing programs. Moreover, the adsorption and oxidation process of ethylene glycol on N-Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene/N-CNTs was explored through in-situ infrared spectroscopy testing. This study revealed that the oxygen vacancies on the surface of N-Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene/N-CNTs play a crucial role in the oxidative catalytic detection of ethylene glycol. The strategy of N-Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene/N-CNTs provides a new avenue for the detection of ethylene glycol.

As a wound management strategy, this study developed a nanocomposite hydrogel based on the photothermal therapy and photodynamic therapy of nanomaterials, as well as the effects of Bletilla striata polysaccharide (BSP). In this research, MXene nanosheets loaded with indocyanine green were embedded into a hydrogel doped with BSP. By combining the photothermal effect and photodynamic effect, the treatment of wounds infected with Staphylococcus aureus was achieved under 808 nm near-infrared light irradiation (NIR). The characterization results of the hydrogel showed that it had good adhesiveness with an adhesive strength of 629 KPa ± 15.52 KPa and excellent biocompatibility; the swelling rate after 48 h was 485.53 % ± 0.26 %. In terms of antibacterial performance, the hydrogel had an antibacterial rate of over 90 % against Staphylococcus aureus . In addition, it could significantly promote the deposition of collagen and angiogenesis in infected wounds. When applied to wound treatment, the wound closure rate reached 98 % after 14 days, the collagen fraction of the healed wound was 87.63 % ± 1.81 %, and the epidermis thickness was 130.33 μm ± 1.25 μm. This indicated that the nanocomposite hydrogel dressing could effectively promote wound healing.
