In this work, Pt-Cr 2 O 3 -WO 3 composite nanofibers have been designed by using Pt@MIL-101(Cr) and electrospinning. The morphological and microstructural properties of these nanofibers were analyzed by various kinds of techniques. The FESEM and TEM results demonstrate that the size of Pt nanoparticles is ˜ 3 nm, which greatly improved the gas sensing properties of metal oxides. The gas-sensing properties of WO 3 , Cr 2 O 3 -WO 3 and Pt-Cr 2 O 3 -WO 3 composite nanofibers were tested. Compared with pristine WO 3 nanofibers, Pt-Cr 2 O 3 -WO 3 composite nanofibers exhibit superior response toward xylene. At the optimal operating temperature of 325 °C, the response of Pt-Cr 2 O 3 -WO 3 composite nanofibers to 10 ppm xylene is 74.3, the response time is 5 s and the detection limit is 0.5 ppm. The sensing mechanism of the ultrahigh gas sensing properties attributes to the Cr 2 O 3 -WO 3 heterojunction, the catalytic activity of Cr 2 O 3 , porous structure, the electronic and chemical sensitization of Pt nanoparticles.

Tungsten oxide (WO 3 ) is one of the most promising gas-sensitivity materials owing to its high decomposition temperature and stability of microstructure. The doping of oxides can significantly improve its gas-sensitivity properties. In this paper, WO 3 based coatings doped with TiO 2 were prepared via plasma spraying technology by using mixed feedstock suspensions containing a precursor as WCl 6 and a certain ratio of nano-TiO 2 . The characterization of microstructures and properties of the TiO 2 –WO 3 composite coatings were achieved and the gas sensitivity mechanism was researched. During the suspension plasma spraying, the solvent of the precursor droplets was evaporated and then the nucleation, crystallization and growth of WO 3 occurred. The crystallinity and crystal grains of WO 3 increased observably as the plasma spraying power improved. With the increase of TiO 2 in coatings, the average grain size of the TiO 2 –WO 3 composite coatings decreased at first and then increased. And the gas-sensitive properties of the composite coatings were significantly better than the pure WO 3 coatings. The gas-sensitive properties improvement of TiO 2 –WO 3 composite coatings doped with TiO 2 was firstly caused by the decrease of grains size, which leaded to an increase of the gas adsorption sites. And the Fermi level effect of the composite metal oxide heterojunction formed by TiO 2 and WO 3 also markedly enhanced the gas sensitivity properties of the composite coatings.

Heavy metal Pb is an inevitable ingredient of coal-fired flue gas and has been proven to be a source of inhibiting effect on the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst. In this paper, two types of Pb-poisoned catalyst, prepared by the incipient wetness impregnation and solid diffusion methods, are studied to unveil the poisoning effects of lead species on the V 2 O 5 -WO 3 /TiO 2 catalyst. The activity test results showed that lead species loaded by the incipient wetness impregnation method exhibited a significant inhibiting effect on the denitrification efficiency of the catalyst although a negligible activity loss was observed on the samples from the solid diffusion method. Characterizations of fresh and Pb-poisoned catalysts from incipient wetness impregnation method were applied using comprehensive techniques such as X-Ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), NH 3 -temperature programmed desorption (NH 3 -TPD), X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and so forth. The analytical results indicated that a phase transformation occurred in tungsten species and the amorphous WO 3 converted into PbWO 4 , causing the accumulation and valence imbalance of active vanadium phase, which further decreased the surface acidity and activity of the V 2 O 5 -WO 3 /TiO 2 catalyst.

In our work, Z -scheme Ag 3 PO 4 /NG/WO 3 composites were fabricated via a facile deposition approach, which was used in the photocatalytic degradation of indomethacin (IDM) under visible light irradiation. The as-prepared Ag 3 PO 4 -based photocatalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscope , Fourier transform infrared, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and UV–visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy in order to determine the chemical structure , morphological feature and optical performance. From the degradation experiments of IDM, the Ag 3 PO 4 /NG/WO 3 composite exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity and stability, and its kinetics constant was ~8 times of pure Ag 3 PO 4 . Furthermore, reactive species trapping experiment, electron spin resonance , liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, total organic carbon , photoelectrochemical measurement and photoluminescence spectra were applied to analyze the possible degradation pathways and photocatalytic mechanism of IDM. The results indicated that the visible-light photocatalytic degradation of IDM using Ag 3 PO 4 /NG/WO 3 conformed to a Z -scheme photocatalysis mechanism, further facilitating the photoinduced charge carriers separation, and inhibiting the recombination of photoinduced electron-hole pairs. It also confirmed that the holes, OH and O 2 – radicals generated in Z -scheme system played the significant roles during the photocatalytic degradation of IDM.

In this work, we first successfully designed and fabricated the ternary plasmonic Ag/β-Ag 2 WO 4 /WO 3 photocatalysts with different contents of Ag/β-Ag 2 WO 4 particles in situ decorated on the surface of WO 3 nanoplates by a simple precipitation method at room temperature condition. The photocatalytic activity of as-prepared samples was investigated by degradation of rhodamine B (RhB), methylene blue (MB) and methyl orange (MO) under visible-light irradiation. It was found that the prepared 40 wt% Ag/β-Ag 2 WO 4 /WO 3 photocatalyst showed the highest photocatalytic RhB efficiency with 83.21 and 86.83 times higher than those of pure WO 3 and Ag/β-Ag 2 WO 4 samples, respectively. The highly enhanced photocatalytic performance was attributed to the Z-scheme mechanism in this ternary composites, in which Ag particles play a crucial role by the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect; meanwhile, Ag particles also can work as the charge transmission-bridge, giving rise to effectively restraining recombination of the photogenerated charge carriers. This novel ternary Ag/β-Ag 2 WO 4 /WO 3 nanostructures may provide an appropriate insight in the consideration as an ideal candidate in environmental remediation.

Tungsten trioxide (WO 3 ) is believed to be a promising electrode candidate for supercapacitors, due to its reversible surface redox reaction resulted from the almost same W-O bond lengths with different oxidation states. However, the specific capacitance of WO 3 electrode is very low (<250 mF cm −2 ) because of its low conductivity and slow surface redox reaction kinetics. Herein, to address these issues, mesoporous WO 3 nanosheets with exposed (2 0 0) facets were anchored on activated carbon cloth (ACC) via a simple two-step process including heat treatment and alcohol-thermal process. The ACC was coated on WO 3 seeds and proceed a heat treatment at 500 °C and the time of alcohol-thermal process were 7 h, 8 h, and 9 h labeled as WO 3 @ACC- n ( n = 7, 8, 9). SEM and TEM images confirmed the WO 3 nanosheets were successful anchored on the ACC. The WO 3 @ACC-8 electrode showed the best specific areal capacitance which could reach as high as 659 mF cm −2 at a current density of 5 mA cm −2 and superior stability with almost no decrease in 10,000 cycles in the presence of Na 2 SO 4 as the neutral electrolyte. The capacitance is encouragingly much higher than the previously reported values in a three-electrode system in the neutral aqueous condition. DFT calculations reveal that, in comparison to the (0 0 2) and (0 2 0) facets, the exposed (2 0 0) facets of the mesoporous WO 3 nanosheets triggers the superior Na + adsorption, which accelerates the Na + -involved surface redox reaction for the boosted supercapacitor performance. A flexible asymmetric supercapacitor (FASC) was fabricated from the WO 3 @ACC electrode, which exhibits high energy density (0.5 mWh cm −3 ) and power density (62 mW cm −3 ) without any attenuation during ±180° wide-angle bending.

Tungsten oxide (WO3−x) crystalline nano/microrods with identical morphology but different contents of oxygen vacancies were prepared by thermally evaporating fixed amount of WO3 powder in reductive atmosphere from different amounts of S power at 1150°C in a vacuum tube furnace, in which both sources were loaded in separate ceramic boat. With increasing amount of S powder, a series of tungsten oxides, WO3, WO2.90, W19O55 (WO2.89), and W18O49 (WO2.72), could be obtained. And devices were fabricated by screen-printing the obtained WO3−x crystals on ceramic substrates with Ag-Pd interdigital electrodes. With increasing content of oxygen vacancies, the devices fabricated with WO3−x crystals present a negative to positive resistance response to relative humidity. Under dry atmosphere, for the devices with increasing , the strong response to light changed from short to long wavelength; under light irradiation, the conducting ability of the devices was enhanced, due to the more efficient separation and transportation of the photogenerated carriers; and under simulated solar irradiation, the photocurrent intensity of the W18O49 device was roughly 8 times, about 500 times, and even 1000 times larger than that of the W19O55, WO2.90, and WO3 one, respectively. With the versatile optoelectrochemical properties, the obtained WO3−x crystals have the great potential to prepare various humidity sensors and optoelectrical devices.

Partial oxidation of cyclohexane (CHA) to KA oil (cyclohexanone (-one) and cyclohexanol (-ol)) with dry air is one of the most important industrial process. Despite great efforts have made in developing new catalysts, industrial processes are still limited by low conversion and selectivity with harsh condition. Here we report a significantly improved cyclohexane conversion and KA oil selectivity under solar light irradiation by anew photothermal synergistic catalyst, which was prepared by loading Au nanoparticles (Au NPs) onto WO 3 nanosheets (WO 3 NSs) with simple ultrasonic method. A high conversion of 9.0% and a high selectivity of 99.0% are acquired by WO 3 nanosheets-Au nanoparticles (WO 3 -Au) composite under dry air, which are much higher than the simple sum of photocatalysis and thermal catalysis. The significantly improved catalytic properties of cyclohexane oxidation by the WO 3 -Au composite are mainly attributed to the improved light absorption, the effective charge separation and the synergistic effect of photocatalysis and thermal catalysis. The photothermal synergy to improve catalytic activity may be widely used in green industrial catalytic processes.

Photosynthesis with Z-scheme charge transfer has been recognized as an efficient pathway to achieve solar-energy conversion. Herein, the all-solid-state direct Z-scheme ZnO-WO 3-x nanorod arrays were synthesized by in-situ solvothermal treatment for highly piezoelectric (PE)-photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting. The chemical bonding between WO 3-x and ZnO via W-O-Zn and the inherent band structures/Fermi levels drive the formation of direct Z-scheme charge-transfer pathway. Importantly, the optimized structure (Zn-W-5) shows higher PEC activities with high photocurrent density of 2.39 mA/cm 2 at 1.23 V vs. RHE, which is 2.13 times higher than pure ZnO. Surprisingly, the obvious PE polarization of ZnO increases its Fermi level toward conduction band and significantly enhances Z-scheme effect between ZnO and WO 3-x . Especially, the best sample (Zn-W-5-1000 rpm) shows a photocurrent of 3.38 mA/cm 2 at 1.23 V vs. RHE, which is 3.02 times higher than pure ZnO. This work provides a facile PE polarization approach for enhancement of Z-scheme charge-transfer process.

A W-containing inorganic–organic nanohybrid with a plate-like morphology has been successfully prepared through a nonaqueous synthetic route using WCl6 as the tungsten source and benzyl alcohol as the solvent. The as-prepared hybrid nanomaterial was used directly as an efficient precursor for the formation of WO3 nanoplates via a simple thermal treatment process. The as-obtained WO3 material maintains the plate-like morphology of the precursor and possesses a unique uneven surface structure. It is noted that the use of a inorganic–organic hybrid precursor is essential for the creation of an uneven surface on the WO3 nanoplates, which exhibit high sensitivity and selectivity for the detection of acetone vapour at a relatively low operating temperature (200 °C). The excellent sensing performance of the WO3 nanomaterial is attributed to its unique uneven surface structure besides the small particle size and ultrathin morphology.

The construction of heterojunctions can effectively inhibit the rapid recombination of photogenerated electrons and holes in photocatalysts and offers great potential for pollutant degradation. In this study, a Z-scheme heterojunction g-C3N4/WO3photocatalyst was synthesized using a combination of hydrothermal and calcination methods. The photocatalytic degradation performance was tested under visible light; the degradation efficiency of Rh B reached 97.9% within 15 min and that of TC-HCl reached 93.3% within 180 min. The excellent photocatalytic performance of g-C3N4/WO3composites can be attributed to the improved absorption of visible light, the increase in surface area, and the effective separation of photogenerated electron–hole pairs. In addition, after four cycles of experiments, the photocatalytic performance of g-C3N4/WO3did not decrease obviously, remaining at 97.8%, which proved that the g-C3N4/WO3heterojunction had high stability and reusability. The active radical capture experiment confirmed that h+and ·O2−played a leading role in the photocatalytic degradation. The Z-scheme heterojunction g-C3N4/WO3designed and synthesized in this study is expected to become an efficient photocatalyst suitable for environmental pollution control.

A series of WO3/TiO2 catalysts with a pore structure were successfully synthesized. The catalysts were systematically characterized and it was found that different calcination temperatures had great effects on the pore structure of the catalysts. The catalyst presented a mesoporous structure after calcining at 550 °C (expressed as 550-WO3/TiO2) and had the largest specific surface area among the mesoporous catalysts. The oxidation of dibenzothiophene (DBT) with 550-WO3/TiO2 catalyst reached 100% under optimum conditions. After recycling for 6 times, the oxidation of DBT could still achieve a DBT removal of 96.7%, suggesting that the catalyst had good stability and recycle performance. In addition, DBT sulfone (DBTO2) was proven to be the only oxidation product of DBT after the reaction, as observed by the GC-MS analysis. The catalytic activities of the catalyst on different substrates were also investigated, and the activities decreased in the order: DBT > 4-MDBT > 4,6-DMDBT > BT.
