Lamellar Ti3C2 MXene composite decorated with platinum-doped MoS2 nanosheets as electrochemical sensing functional platform for highly sensitive analysis of organophosphorus pesticides

Fei Wang,Yao Zhu,Long Qian,Yuhao Yin,Ziyu Yuan,Yuting Dai,Tao Zhang,Dongya Yang,Fengxian Qiu

Precisely detecting organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) is paramount in upholding human safety and environmental preservation, especially in food safety. Herein, an electrochemical acetylcholinesterase (AChE) sensing platform entrapped in chitosan (Chit) on the glassy carbon electrodes (GCEs) decorated with Pt/MoS 2 /Ti 3 C 2 MXene (Pt/MoS 2 /TM) was constructed for the detection of chlorpyrifos . It is worth noting that Pt/MoS 2 /TM possesses good biocompatibility, remarkable electrical conductivity , environmental stability and large specific surface area . Besides, the heterostructure formed by the composite of TM and MoS 2 improves the conductivity and maintains the original structure, which is conducive to improving the electrochemical property . The coordination effect between the individual components enables the even distribution of functional components and enhances the electrochemical performance of the biosensor (AChE-Chit/Pt/MoS 2 /TM). Under optimal efficiency and sensitivity, the AChE-Chit/Pt/MoS 2 /TM/GCE sensing platform exerts comparable analytical performance and a wide concentration range of chlorpyrifos from 10 −12 to 10 −6  M as well as a low limit of detection (4.71 × 10 −13  M). Furthermore, the biosensor is utilized to detect OPs concerning three kinds of fruits and vegetables with good feasibility and recoveries (94.81% to 104.0%). This work would provide a new scheme to develop high-sensitivity sensors based on the two-dimensional nanosheet/laminar hybrid structure for practical applications in environmental monitoring and agricultural product detection.

A dual-mode electrochemical and fluorescence aptasensor based on CDs@Cu/Al-MOF and Ti3C2 for the detection of kanamycin in milk

Li Fang,Luo Mingming,Tan Yijun,Liu Ruowei,Xu Longping,Zhao Pei,Wu Zijian

A dual-mode electrochemical and fluorescent sensing platform for the highly sensitive detection of kanamycin (KANA) in milk was constructed, which leveraged the synergistic effects of carbon dots (CDs)-loaded metal–organic frameworks (CDs@Cu/Al-MOF) and Ti 3 C 2 , along with the competitive binding of complementary DNA (cDNA) strands to KANA-specific aptamers. Loading CDs onto Cu/Al-MOF effectively prevented the aggregation of CDs and shielded the fluorescent signals from environmental interference, significantly enhancing signal stability. When a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) functionalized with Ti 3 C 2 and aptamers was immersed in a solution of cDNA-functionalized CDs@Cu/Al-MOF, the aptamers hybridized with the cDNA, anchoring the CDs@Cu/Al-MOF onto the GCE surface. This resulted in enhanced electrochemical signals and weakened fluorescence intensity in the solution. Upon introduction of KANA, the aptamer preferentially bound to KANA and the cDNA/CDs@Cu/Al-MOF detached from the electrode, leading to a decrease in the electrochemical signal and an increase in the fluorescence signal. The developed dual-mode aptasensor enabled highly sensitive detection of KANA within a range of 100 fM-1 μM, with the limit of detection (LOD) as low as 0.5254 fM (electrochemical mode) and 0.4398 fM (fluorescence mode). The dual-mode aptasensor exhibited excellent selectivity, reproducibility, and promising performance in real milk sample analysis. Graphical

Lu Qian,Zuncai Gu,Mengting Liu,Tao Deng,Chenhao Zhang,Jing Qian,Xingyi Huang,Chengquan Wang

Heavy metals pose a significant threat to ecosystems and human health due to their toxicity and persistence. In this work, we developed a high-performance electrochemical sensor for simultaneous detection of Cd 2+ and Pb 2+ using a cost-effective pencil graphite electrode (PGE) modified with alkalized Ti 3 C 2 MXene (alk-MXene/PGE). Cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy were utilized to examine the electrochemical characteristics of different PGEs. Studies revealed that the optimal PGE for subsequent application was the one with HB hardness and a diameter of 2 mm. Compared with bare PGE and Ti 3 C 2 MXene modified PGE, alk-MXene/PGE exhibited enhanced electrical conductivity and optimized electrochemical performance, enabling sensitive and simultaneous detection of Cd 2+ and Pb 2+ in a single run. Linear relationships were achieved for Cd 2+ in the range of 5.0 × 10 −4  ∼ 7.0 × 10 −2 mg/L and for Pb 2+ in the range of 2.0 × 10 −4  ∼ 8.0 × 10 −2 mg/L, with detection limits of 8.10 × 10 −6 mg/L and 9.12 × 10 −6 mg/L, respectively. The developed electrochemical sensor was successfully applied to scallop samples, demonstrating its good practicability. This study underscores the potential of alkalized Ti 3 C 2 MXene-modified PGEs in electrochemical sensing of Cd 2+ and Pb 2+ simultaneously, paving new avenues for food quality monitoring and environmental analysis.

Dual-Emission Reverse Change Ratio Photoluminescence Sensor Based on a Probe of Nitrogen-Doped Ti3C2 Quantum Dots@DAP to Detect H2O2 and Xanthine

Qiaoyun Lu,Jing Wang,Bingzhi Li,Chenyuan Weng,Xiaoyun Li,Wei Yang,Xiaoqiang Yan,Junli Hong,Wanying Zhu,Xuemin Zhou

Titanium carbide quantum dots (Ti3C2 QDs) derived from two-dimensional (2D) Ti3C2Tx (MXene) are the rising-star material recently. Herein, nitrogen-doped Ti3C2 QDs (N-Ti3C2 QDs) were synthesized via a solvothermal method. The obtained N-Ti3C2 QDs exhibited excitation-dependent photoluminescence, antiphotobleaching, and dispersion stability. Furthermore, by combining the N-Ti3C2 QDs and DAP (2,3-diaminophenazine, the oxidative product of o-phenylenediamine) as a composite nanoprobe (N-Ti3C2 QDs@DAP), we developed a dual-emission reverse change ratiometric sensor to quantitatively monitor H2O2 based on photoinduced electron-transfer effects, where N-Ti3C2 QDs acted as the donor and DAP as the acceptor. On the basis of the xanthine converting into H2O2 through the catalysis of xanthine oxidase, the N-Ti3C2 QDs@DAP nanoprobe was also exploited for xanthine sensing. As a result, the proposed assay was demonstrated to be highly sensitive for H2O2 and xanthine with detection limits of 0.57 and 0.34 μM, respectively. In a word, we have investigated the application of N-Ti3C2 QDs in H2O2 and xanthine sensing and opened a new and exciting avenue for the N-Ti3C2 QDs in biosensing.

Yingyun Luo,Zhuoya Meng,Jingwei Jiang,Yiyi Zhou,Yujia Chen,Ming Dong,Meiyi Xie,Peihan Xie,Mei Wang

A new electrochemical sensor based on a nanocomposites (Ce-MOF/Ti 3 C 2 ) synthesized by cerium-based metal-organic framework (Ce-MOF) and titanium carbide (Ti 3 C 2 ) was constructed. Ce-MOF/Ti 3 C 2 modified a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) to enable the individual or simultaneous trace detection of Cd 2+ and Pb 2+ by square wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV). The morphology and composition of the composite were characterized using SEM, XPS and XRD, while its electrochemical performance was evaluated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The developed sensor exhibited excellent performance, enabling simultaneous detection of Pb 2+ (8-500 μg/L) and Cd 2+ (10-500 μg/L), with detection limits of 1.02 μg/L and 2.5 μg/L, respectively, and also demonstrated good anti-interference capability, reproducibility and stability. This new method was successfully applied for the detection of Cd 2+ and Pb 2+ in river water and human urine samples, highlighting its potential for environmental and biological monitoring applications.

Microwave-assisted synthesis of nitrogen, phosphorus-doped Ti3C2 MXene quantum dots for colorimetric/fluorometric dual-modal nitrite assay with a portable smartphone platform

Yuxuan Bai,Yu He,Manman Wang,Gongwu Song

Ti 3 C 2 MXene quantum dots (Ti 3 C 2 MQDs) are recognized as promising new nanomaterial recently, while the majority of the Ti 3 C 2 MQDs manifest limited maximum emission in the blue-light range. Herein, the green fluorescence nitrogen, phosphorus-doped Ti 3 C 2 MQDs (N, P-Ti 3 C 2 MQDs) were synthesized via facile microwave-assisted method, which greatly reduces the reaction time. The as-prepared N, P-Ti 3 C 2 MQDs showed excitation-dependent photoluminescence , anti-photobleaching, and favorable dispersibility . Interestingly, the fluorescence of N, P-Ti 3 C 2 MQDs can be quenched by 1,10-phenanthroline-Fe (II) complex (Phen-Fe 2+ ) via inner filter effect (IFE), accompanied by the increased orange color. After introduction of nitrite (NO 2 - ), owing to the redox reaction between NO 2 - and Fe 2+ , the fluorescence will be recovered and the color varies from orange to colorless gradually. Therefore, a colorimetric/fluorometric dual-modal recognition of NO 2 - was fabricated based on N, P-Ti 3 C 2 MQDs and Phen-Fe 2+ complex. Moreover, paper-based test trips were facilely made by the N, P-Ti 3 C 2 MQDs/Phen-Fe 2+ sensing system in response to ultrafast-response, real-time detection of NO 2 - with the assistant of smartphone. This study tendered a novel dual-channel method for real-time visual assay of NO 2 - as well as provided insightful research into functionalized Ti 3 C 2 MQDs regarding in food analysis.

Self-powered photoelectrochemical sensor for chlorpyrifos detection in fruit and vegetables based on metal–ligand charge transfer effect by Ti3C2 based Schottky junction

Xiaojiao Du,Wenhan Du,Jun Sun,Ding Jiang

Herein, a high-performance self-powered photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor was fabricated for chlorpyrifos (CPF) assay based on the noble-metal-free AgBr/Ti 3 C 2 Schottky interface in fruit and vegetables. The Schottky barrier could provide an electron-transfer irreversible passage from AgBr to Ti 3 C 2 nanosheets, and thus improving the light absorption and efficiency of charge separation. Such Schottky interface exhibited an ultrasensitive and selective photocurrent response for CPF due to the metal–ligand charge transfer effect. Because Ti 3 C 2 MXene nanosheet had coordinative interaction with CPF and thus suppressed its photocurrent response of the Schottky interface, which was further confirmed by the electrochemical impedance spectra and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The developed self-powered PEC sensor showed wide linear range (1 × 10 −3  ∼ 1 ng L −1 ), low detection limit (0.33 pg L −1 ), limit of quantitation (1 pg L −1 ), good reproducibility and stability. The sensor was applied for the determination of CPF in river water, apple and cucumber samples with good satisfactory results.

Single-Atomic Ruthenium Active Sites on Ti3C2 MXene with Oxygen-Terminated Surface Synchronize Enhanced Activity and Selectivity for Electrocatalytic Nitrogen Reduction to Ammonia

Gang Chen,Mingmei Ding,Kai Zhang,Zhen Shen,Yueting Wang,Jun Ma,Ao Wang,Yiping Li,Hang Xu

Graphical This is the way : Single-atomic Ru anchored on Ti 3 C 2 O substrate exhibits superior activity and selectivity toward electrocatalytic nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR) with an ammonia yield rate of 27.56 μg h −1 mg −1 and a faradaic efficiency of 23.3 %. Density functional theory calculations combined with physical characterization reveal that single Ru sites binding to four oxygen atoms are the main reaction centers that achieve a novel distal/alternating hybrid path, significantly promoting the NRR dynamics. Downsizing the catalyst to atom scale offers an effective way to maximize the atom utilization efficiency for electrocatalytic nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR). Herein, single-atomic ruthenium (Ru) anchored on a chemically activated Ti 3 C 2 with O-terminated groups (Ti 3 C 2 O) was designed to catalyze the NRR process. The catalyst achieved a superior activity and selectivity with ammonia yield rate of 27.56 μg h −1 mg −1 and faradaic efficiency of 23.3 % at a low potential of −0.20 V versus the reversible hydrogen electrode. According to the atomic resolution images from aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy, Ru sites on Ti 3 C 2 O achieved good dispersion on atomic scale. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis further demonstrated that the O-termination groups were successfully activated. Density functional theory calculations combined with experiments revealed that single Ru sites binding to four oxygen were the main reaction centers that permitted the hydrogenation of *NNH 2 to *NHNH 2 in a novel distal/alternating hybrid path while reducing the energy barrier of the potential-limiting step to 0.78 eV from 0.96 eV in the distal path alone or 1.18 eV in the alternating path alone, thereby significantly promoting the NRR dynamics.

All-solid-state WO3/TQDs/In2S3 Z-scheme heterojunctions bridged by Ti3C2 quantum dots for efficient removal of hexavalent chromium and bisphenol A

Zhenting Yuan,Huoshuai Huang,Najun Li,Dongyun Chen,Qingfeng Xu,Hua Li,Jinghui He,Jianmei Lu

Ti 3 C 2 quantum dots (TQDs) derived from ultrathin few-layered Ti 3 C 2 nanosheets were served as the low-cost solid electron mediator of photogenerated carriers at the semiconductor interfaces, which could greatly reserve the reductive and oxidative reaction sites on the surface of heterojunctions and accelerate the reduction and oxidation reactions. The all-solid-state TQDs-bridge WO 3 /TQDs/In 2 S 3 Z-scheme photocatalysts exhibited extremely promoted photocatalytic reduction of Cr (VI) and photocatalytic oxidation of Bisphenol A (BPA) under visible light irradiation, which are 4 and 3 times higher than that of WO 3 /In 2 S 3 heterojunctions, respectively. The favorable photocatalytic activities of WO 3 /TQDs/In 2 S 3 should attribute to the effective electron transfer and charges separation with introduction of TQDs as the electron mediators in the Z-scheme system. In addition, the stability of WO 3 /TQDs/In 2 S 3 was investigated and the possible mechanisms during photo-reduction of Cr (VI) and photo-oxidation of BPA were proposed. This work provides a new strategy for fabrication of all-solid-state Z-scheme heterojunctions using Ti 3 C 2 quantum dots as the low-cost solid electron mediator for efficient environmental remediation.

Tuning Lewis acidity of MIL-88B-Fe with mix-valence coordinatively unsaturated iron centers on ultrathin Ti3C2 nanosheets for efficient photo-Fenton reaction

Munir Ahmad,Xie Quan,Shuo Chen,Hongtao Yu

Iron containing MOFs have been currently estimated as greater candidates for heterogeneous Fenton catalysts due to their open pores and well dispersed metallic components. However, metals in majority of MOFs are bounded by organic linkers, which reduces Lewis acid sites and make them not available for H 2 O 2 activation. Creating coordinatively unsaturated metal centers (CUCs), acting as Lewis acid sites, is a feasible approach for efficient photo-Fenton activity. Here, we successfully synthesized a photo-Fenton CUCs-MIL-88B-Fe catalyst with mixed-valence (Fe II /Fe III ) on ultrathin Ti 3 C 2 nanosheets. The Lewis acidity was probed by TPD-NH 3 and IR-pyridine analysis and tested for pollutants degradation. The results showed that CUCs-MIL-88B-Fe/Ti 3 C 2 displayed highest photo-Fenton activity under visible light irradiation at pH 3.0 and 10 mM H 2 O 2 . This could be attributed with the CUCs, fast H 2 O 2 activation, high Lewis acidity and carrier separation with Ti 3 C 2 nanosheets due to its high charge mobility. Furthermore, CUCs-MIL-88B-Fe/Ti 3 C 2 exhibited a good stability and reusability.

Facile Synthesis of MXene-Ti3C2/Co Nanosheet Hydrogel Sensor with the Assistance of a Smartphone for On-Site Monitoring of Glucose in Beverages

Ziling Li,Tiantian Lei,Ting Pei,Keyan Chen,Zhidong Zhao,Manman Wang,Yu He

A one-step cobaltous chloride (CoCl2) molten salt method was employed to prepare multilayer MXene-Ti3C2/Co materials with further ultrasonic treatment to acquire single-layer MXene-Ti3C2/Co nanosheets (NSs). MXene-Ti3C2/Co NSs were characterized, and their enzyme-like activities were investigated. Under the catalysis of MXene-Ti3C2/Co NSs, 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) could be oxidized by H2O2, with the color changing from colorless to blue. The affinity of MXene-Ti3C2/Co NSs to H2O2and TMB was better than that of nanozymes reported in previous studies. The MXene-Ti3C2/Co NSs were used for the colorimetric determination of H2O2/glucose, with limits of detection (LODs) of 0.033 mM and 1.7 μM, respectively. MXene-Ti3C2/Co NSs embedded in sodium alginate (SA) hydrogel were used to construct a sensor platform. The digital pictures combined with a smartphone-installed app (color recognizer) could be used to analyze RGB values for colorimetric detection of glucose in beverages. This point-of-care testing platform has the advantages of cost-effectiveness and good transferability, with the potential to realize quick, intelligent and on-site detection.Keywords:MXene-Ti3C2/Co NSs;peroxidase-like activity;glucose;hydrogel;point-of-care testing

Sandwich-like Na0.23TiO2 nanobelt/Ti3C2 MXene composites from a scalable in situ transformation reaction for long-life high-rate lithium/sodium-ion batteries

Jimei Huang,Ruijin Meng,Lianhai Zu,Zhijun Wang,Nan Feng,Ziyi Yang,Yan Yu,Jinhu Yang

Ti 3 C 2 MXene-based composites are emerging two-dimensional (2D) layered materials promising in electrochemical energy storage devices such as rechargeable ion batteries and supercapacitors . However, scalable preparation of Ti 3 C 2 MXene-based composites , especially, integrated with one-dimensional (1D) materials through a facile low-temperature strategy remains a considerable challenge. Herein, novel sandwich-like Na 0.23 TiO 2 /Ti 3 C 2 composites made of 1D amorphous Na 0.23 TiO 2 nanobelts growing on 2D Ti 3 C 2 nanosheets have been prepared through a one-step scalable transformation reaction of Ti 3 C 2 MXene . The sandwich-like Na 0.23 TiO 2 /Ti 3 C 2 composites comprising of 1D ultrathin nanobelts, 2D conductive nanosheets and 3D sandwich-like architecture with electrically connecting interfaces inside can effectively relieve strain of the electrode upon cycling, facilitate carrier transport dynamics and protect aggregation of the electrode material, favorable for high-performance rechargeable batteries. As a result, when employed as anodes in Li/Na-ion batteries, the Na 0.23 TiO 2 /Ti 3 C 2 electrodes exhibit superior long cycling stability (up to 4000 cycles at the high rates with respective capacity retention of over or nearly 100%), and remarkable rate capability. This work may open a new way for scalable synthesis of 2D layered MXene-based composites with desired architectures and properties for practical energy applications .
