Benefiting from its superior insulation and outstanding environmental adaptability, aramid nanofibers (ANFs) composite paper has attracted tremendous attention in the flexible electronics and electronic packaging field. However, the extremely low thermal conductivity of aramid nanofiber paper faced a serious challenge under the rapidly increasing heat dissipation demand. Herein, boron nitride nanosheets (BNNS) were introduced to ANFs paper via a controllable vacuum-assisted filtration, and hydrogen bonding and light-induced “thiol-ene” click chemistry were proposed to improve the interfacial combination. Specifically, BNNS was prepared via the microwave-assisted hydrothermal method with subsequent sulfhydryl functionalization (f-BNNS) and s-ANFs (grafted ANFs) were prepared by deprotonation of chopped aramid fibers and then treated with KH570 coupling agent. The results showed that the through-plane thermal conductivity (TC) of f-BNNS/s-ANFs composite paper reached 0.224 W/m K with 50 wt% f-BNNS loading, exhibiting an increase of 540% and 184%, respectively, compared with pure ANFs paper and BNNS/ANFs paper. The abundant hydrogen bonding and covalent bonding via “thiol-ene” click chemistry between f-BNNS and s-ANFs contributed to enhanced interface and interlayer bonding, and the continuous interconnected thermal conductive network constructed by f-BNNS was conducive to improving TC. Meanwhile, the composite paper held excellent mechanical properties and reliable electrical insulation.

Copper-palladium (CuPd)/boron nitride nanosheet (BNNS) nanocatalysts were successfully prepared by a microwave-assisted method by using BNNSs as a carrier. These catalysts with a low noble metal content had a high catalytic activity for Cr(VI) reduction at room temperature. The reaction rate reached 0.04044 s − 1 , which was approximately 2.5 times that of Cu 8 Pd 2 /rGO with the same metal loading amount. Compared with the previously reported PdCu/NG nanocatalysts with a high noble metal content, the reaction rate increased more than five times. This is of great significance to the application of supported metal composites in environmental catalysis. The structure and morphology of the catalyst was characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). Several types of control experiments showed that the catalytic activity of the catalysts was not only influenced by the synergistic effect of bimetallic CuPd and metal-BNNSs but also related to the catalytic effect of the BNNS carrier itself.

The in situ synthesis method is developed to chemically integrate dye@MOF systems with BNNS. • The SRh101@ZIF-BN composite retains excellent photoluminescent properties with a marked stability. • The resulting WLED exhibits superior performance and a notable 12.3 °C reduction in operating temperature. Dye@MOF composites show great potential for solid-state lighting, yet their practical deployment is hindered by insufficient stability. To address this challenge, we develop a red-emitting composite, SRh101@ZIF-BN, by in situ anchoring dye-incorporated MOFs onto ultrathin boron nitride nanosheets (BNNS).Systematic investigation of their microstructure, photoluminescence (PL) characteristics, and stability under various environmental conditions (ambient air, blue light irradiation, and elevated temperatures) confirms that the chemical integration of BNNS not only preserves the outstanding PL properties, but also significantly enhances photothermal stability, markedly outperforming physically blended BN additives. Finally, a high-performance white light-emitting diode (WLED) is fabricated by integrating the optimized SRh101@ZIF-BN composite with YAG:Ce 3+ phosphor on a 450 nm blue LED chip. The resulting device achieves excellent performance metrics: CIE color coordinates of (0.33, 0.33), a correlated color temperature (CCT) of 5096 K, an impressive color rendering index (CRI) of 91.1, and a luminous efficacy (LE) of 103.18 lm/W. Moreover, the operating temperature of the WLED is reduced by 12.3 °C compared to that based on the pristine SRh101@ZIF-8 phosphor. This work establishes an effective BNNS-stabilization strategy and opens a promising pathway for durable and efficient dye@MOF materials in advanced lighting applications. Radiative cooling offers a sustainable thermal management strategy for personal cooling under extreme solar exposure. Herein, a surface-engineered radiative cooling fabric (PHB-4%) was developed utilizing a simple electrospinning technique. The PHB-4% strategically integrates two-dimensional boron nitride nanosheets (BNNS) with high refractive index as photon scattering centers within polyvinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene (PVDF-HFP) nanofibers. Through synergistic optimization of hierarchical micro-nano porous architectures and BNNS-enhanced photon scattering, the engineered PHB-4% achieves 94 % solar reflectivity and 91.5 % mid-infrared (MIR) emissivity, enabling a sub-ambient cooling effect of 5 °C under 824.4 W·m⁻² solar irradiation. Remarkably, the PHB fabric maintains 92 % reflectivity after extended ultraviolet exposure (60 days) and repeated laundering (100 cycles), outperforming conventional cooling textiles. The inherent hydrophobicity of PVDF-HFP further endows the PHB-4% with antifouling capabilities and contamination resistance. Besides, the evaluation of basic properties confirms preserved flexibility, adequate breathability, and sufficient mechanical durability for wearable applications. This multifunctional cooling textile platform establishes new possibilities for sustainable personal thermal regulation and energy-efficient outdoor thermal management systems.

To meet the requirement of thermal management of modern electronic devices, polymer composites with high thermal conductivity (TC) and dielectric performance are nowadays in urgent demand. Herein, a highly ordered continuous network of boron nitride nano-sheet (BNNS) was constructed in cyclic olefin polymer (COP) films via the forced flow processing in the rubbery state (FFRS), melt-spinning, fiber-alignment, and hot-pressing procedures. The composites exhibited superior TC, low dielectric permittivity, and low dielectric loss simultaneously. The in-plane TC of the composites reached 3.92 W/(mK) when the content of BNNS was at 27 weight percentage (27 wt%), since the procedures improved the face-to-face contact between the BNNS (which was exfoliated, dispersed, and in-plane oriented during FFRS), enhancing the continuity of the BNNS thermally conductive network. Both the TC and the experimental results indicated the outstanding heat dissipation performance of the composites. Meanwhile, the dielectric permittivity and dielectric loss of the 27 wt% BNNS composites were 2.56 and 0.00085 at 10 GHz, respectively, lower than that of the COP-POE matrix. Moreover, the mechanical properties, water vapor permeability, and coefficient of thermal expansion of the composites were excellent. The composites with such highly ordered continuous networks are very promising in high-performance electronic devices.

Phase change fibers (PCFs) are increasingly popular in thermal storage and release applications, such as temperature management. However, a simple but effective integration of thermal conductive materials into PCFs to deliver ultrafast thermal conduction remains a big challenge. Herein, a facile one-pot coaxial wet spinning strategy based on sheath-confinement-induced orientation arrangement of hydroxylated boron nitride nanosheets (BNNs-OH) is proposed to fabricate the high-performance PCFs. For the core-sheath PCFs, the cellulose nanofiber (CNF)-reinforced paraffin (CNF/PW) emulsions serve as the phase change core, while the dissolved cellulose and well-dispersed BNNs-OH act as the sheath precursor. By increasing the extrusion speed of the liquid core, the contraction of the fiber sheath is gradually finalized to induce the alignment of BNNs-OH based on the confinement effect. Consequently, the highly oriented BNNs-OH nanosheets in fiber sheath ( f = 0.8) endow PCFs with high phase transition enthalpy (125.1 J g −1 ), excellent thermal conductivity (10.15 W m −1 K −1 ), rapid heat transfer rate (1.6 cm s −1 ); moreover, the as-prepared PCFs show good tensile strength (11.21 MPa) and leakage-proof (0.13%). The as-prepared PCFs are combined with thermochromic dyes for functional fabrics or applied as thermal management for a phone, demonstrating excellent thermal conduction and heat dissipation.

Polyimide (PI) is widely utilized in high-power electronic devices due to its outstanding thermal stability, superior mechanical strength, excellent electrical insulation, and chemical resistance. However, its intrinsically low thermal conductivity hinders its application in highly integrated systems. To address this limitation, the present study successfully prepared KH550-functionalized Boron Nitride Nanosheets (BNNs@KH550)/Polyimide composite films through a combined method of ball milling and silane coupling agent KH550 surface modification, aiming to develop advanced film materials that meet the stringent requirements of high-power electronics. XPS analysis confirmed the successful grafting of KH550 onto the BNNs surface, which significantly improved the dispersion uniformity of BNNs within the PI matrix and effectively suppressed agglomeration. In terms of performance, the KH550 modification demonstrated positive effects: contrasting with the continuous decline in breakdown strength caused by unmodified BNNs, the BNNs@KH550/PI film exhibited a slight enhancement in breakdown strength, reaching 543.3 kV/mm at a low filler loading of 2 wt%, and maintained the dielectric dissipation factor at an extremely low level, nearly identical to that of pure PI. Furthermore, the composite film’s thermal conductivity significantly increased with the BNNs@KH550 doping content, reaching 0.39 W/(m $\cdot $ K) at a 5 wt% loading. Regarding mechanical properties, the KH550 modification markedly enhanced the composite film’s tensile strength; at a 5 wt% loading, the film’s tensile strength (60.42 MPa) showed an 11.3% increase compared to the unmodified control group (54.27 MPa), strongly confirming that KH550 reinforces interfacial adhesion and promotes efficient stress transfer. This study provides a simple yet effective surface modification and fabrication strategy, offering support for the development of PI-based composite materials that possess excellent thermal management, electrical insulation, and mechanical properties.

Research and development on polymer composites with high thermal conductivities and ideal thermal stabilities have become one of the hot topics in functional composites. In this work, boron nitride nanosheets/polyvinyl alcohol (BNNS/PVA) thermally conductive composite films were respectively prepared from ball milling (BNNS/PVA-I), directional freeze-drying (BNNS/PVA-II) and electrospinning technology (BNNS/PVA-III), followed by hot-pressing method. BNNS/PVA-III thermally conductive composite films had better comprehensive properties than that of BNNS/PVA-(I-II) composite films. Thermal conductivity coefficient in vertical direction ( λ ⊥ ) of the BNNS/PVA-III composite films with 30 wt% BNNS was 1.031 W/mK, obviously higher than that of BNNS/PVA-I ( λ ⊥ of 0.573 W/mK) and BNNS/PVA-II ( λ ⊥ of 0.694 W/mK), respectively. And the λ in parallel direction ( λ ∥ ) was significantly enhanced to 18.630 W/mK, increased by 3101.0% and 1437.1% compared to that of BNNS/PVA-I ( λ ∥ of 0.582 W/mK) and BNNS/PVA-II ( λ ∥ of 1.212 W/mK), respectively. Meantime, the glass transition temperature ( T g ) and heat-resistance index ( T HRI ) of the BNNS/PVA-III thermally conductive composite films with 30 wt% BNNS was 42.7 °C and 144.5 °C, 7.0 °C and 1.9 °C higher than that of pure PVA matrix, respectively.

Construction of a three-dimensional (3D) vertically aligned filler network in a polymer matrix has been believed to be an effective method to attain a large through-plane thermal conductivity enhancement at relatively low filler loading. However, it is still a challenge to construct a vertically aligned filler network composed of many long-range continuous pore channels in a polymer matrix for the high-flux heat-conduction. To address this problem, herein, nanofibrillated cellulose (NFCs) assisted unidirectional freeze-drying of a boron nitride nanosheets (BNNSs) slurry was used to prepare a novel epoxy composite containing a 3D vertically aligned BNNS network with long-range continuous pore channels. The vertically aligned and nacre-mimetic channels make the composite possess a high through-plane thermal conductivity of 1.56 W m–1 K–1 at an extremely low BNNSs loading of 4.4 vol %, and a significant thermal conductivity enhancement efficiency of 167.3 per 1 vol % filler. Therefore, we think this work is expected to give a significant insight into the preparation of polymer composite with high heat-conduction efficiency to address the heat dissipation of modern electronics.

To improve the tribological properties of the cylinder liner-piston ring, a two-dimensional hexagonal boron nitride/copper composite lubricant additive was prepared and characterized in detail. The tribological properties and lubrication mechanism of nano hexagonal boron nitride composites with different concentrations were studied through the reciprocating friction test on the Rtec friction and wear tester. The results show that copper is successfully reduced and attached to the surface of h-BN nanosheets through the self-polymerization of dopamine, and the spherical structure promotes the interlayer slip of the nanosheets during the reciprocating friction process. The appropriate concentration of nano composite additives has excellent anti-friction and anti-wear properties. At 1 Hz and 100 N, the friction coefficient and wear quality of the nano composite additive with a concentration of 2 wt% were reduced by 29.07% and 76%, respectively. The surface Sq value and Sz value of the cylinder liner sample decreased by 68.06% and 74.47%. At the same time, under the condition of high speed and heavy load, the average wear depth of the cylinder liner sample is reduced by 61.3%. The nano composite material additive forms an excellent friction protective film on the wear surface of the cylinder liner, which can better enter the wear surface of the cylinder liner and produce a filling and repairing effect. The research results provide a method for the use of nano hexagonal boron nitride composite additives to inhibit the wear of cylinder liner-piston ring of Marine diesel engines.

Recently, carbon dots (CDs) have gained much attention in optoelectronic fields on account of their superior optical and environmentally friendly properties. Nevertheless, aggregation-induced quenching (AIQ) effect of solid-state CDs and thermal quenching caused by high temperatures severely hinders their further development. Herein, a novel wCDs/BNNS-OH hybrid nanostructure was synthesized by combining blue CDs (bCDs) and yellow CDs (yCDs) to the hydroxylated boron nitride nanosheets (BNNS–OH) surface. The uniform dispersion of CDs in BNNS-OH effectively alleviates the undesirable AIQ effect, and enables CDs/BNNS-OH composites to have color-tunable fluorescence characteristics. The wCDs/BNNS-OH/PVA composite film was obtained by encapsulating wCDs/BNNS-OH into polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). The film exhibits excellent luminescence stability in the air, ultraviolet light , water, and high-temperature environment. Meanwhile, since wCDs/BNNS-OH establishes an effective heat transfer channel in the PVA matrix, the working temperature of CDs in the wCDs/BNNS-OH/PVA film is greatly reduced. Moreover, the prepared wCDs/BNNS-OH/PVA film is flexible enough to retain the photoluminescence intensity unchanged after thousands of bending cycles. This high stability and heat dissipation wCDs/BNNS-OH/PVA composite film will facilitate the application of CDs in flexible and foldable lighting devices.

Polymer dielectrics, serving as integral components in electrostatic capacitors, must meet the escalating demands for electrical energy storage and conversion in harsh environments. However, the current enhancement of breakdown strength in polymer composite materials often relies on intricate nanostructure designs or inorganic deposition methods, which result in high production costs, slow processing, and hinder industrial scalability. Here, we present an economically efficient and easily implementable surface modification approach. This method induces the self-assembly of high-insulation-performance boron nitride nanosheets (BNNS) on the film surface through electrostatic interactions, thereby enhancing the high-temperature electrical insulation and energy storage performance of polymer dielectrics. At room temperature, the breakdown strength of the BNNS-coated polyetherimide (PEI) significantly increased to 544 MV/m, representing a 100 MV/m improvement compared to pure PEI. At elevated temperatures (200 °C), the organic insulator achieved a high breakdown strength of 439 MV/m and a high energy density of 2.59 J/cm 3 . The tangential orientation of the nanosheets effectively impedes charge injection from electrodes while promoting charge dissipation and heat transfer. This work provides a novel avenue for the design of high-performance polymer dielectrics for high-temperature energy storage through surface engineering.
