The introduction of a piezoelectric field has been proven a promising method to enhance photocatalytic activity by preventing photoelectron–hole recombination. However, the formation of a piezoelectric field requires additional mechanical force or high-frequency ultrasonic baths, which limits its potential application on industrial scale. Therefore, it is of great practical significance to design the catalyst that can harvest the discrete energy such as the fluid mechanical energy to form the electric field. Herein, PZT/TiO2 catalyst with a core–shell configuration was prepared by a simple coating method. By collecting the mechanical energy of water, an internal piezoelectric field was induced. Under 800 rpm stirring, transient photocurrent measured on PZT/TiO2 electrode is about 1.7 times higher than that of 400 rpm. Correspondingly, the photocatalytic degradation rate and mineralization efficiency of RhB, BPA, phenol, p-chlorophenol much improved, showing the promoting effect of piezoelectric field generated directly from harvesting the discrete fluid mechanical energy.

Pipeline leakage causes enormous safety and economic concerns; therefore, sensors which are high-performance and durable are in high demand for improving monitoring accuracy and for avoiding economic loss. In this work, mica-based flexible PZT sensors showed high sensitivity, with 140 mV N−1and 467 mV N−1for the output voltage, with regard to the tapping and bending modes, respectively. They can monitor airflow in normal conditions with high sensitivity and a linearity of 424 mV MPa−1and 0.99, respectively. In the event of a pipeline leak, the mica-based sensors exhibited a rapid response time as short as 0.578 s. Furthermore, they generated distinct voltage levels at different distances from the leakage point, thus providing valuable information for accurately locating the source of the leakage.

The increasing importance of flexible piezoelectric sensors in the Internet of Things (IoT) is driven by their self-powering capabilities, rapid response times, and high linearity. However, achieving the intrinsic flexibility of inorganic piezoelectric materials to produce highly sensitive flexible piezoelectric sensors remains a challenge. Furthermore, existing piezoelectric sensors remain incapable of distinguishing bending angles in the range of 0–360°. In this work, highly oriented PbZr 0.52 Ti 0.48 O 3 (PZT) fiber films with a bending curvature radius of less than 2 mm were fabricated through electrospinning and optimized sintering process. The flexibility of the PZT fiber films was attributed to the nanoscale ultrafine grains (∼14 nm), which led to stress relaxation at the grain boundaries. The piezoelectric sensor fabricated with these intrinsically flexible PZT fiber films exhibited ultrahigh sensitivity (0.46 V/kPa) and a fast response time (25 ms). The exceptional orientation of the PZT fiber film enhanced the ability of the sensor to recognize deformation angles. By superimposing two fiber films at a 45° angle, the prepared double-layer piezoelectric sensor could detect bending angles over the entire 0–360° range, marking the first achievement of full-angle strain detection in the field of piezoelectric sensors. Finally, a machine learning-based vector recognition system was developed to accurately determine both the magnitude and direction of strain. This work presents a novel strategy for detecting film deformation.

Porous pyroelectric ceramics offer significant potential in energy harvesting and thermal sensing applications, yet systematic studies focusing on the influence of pore morphology on pyroelectric performance remain limited. In this work, porous lead zirconate titanate (PZT) ceramics with four distinctly designed pore structures (unidirectional, bidirectional, radial, and random) were fabricated via freeze-casting techniques. Comprehensive analyses including microstructural characterization, pyroelectric and ferroelectric measurements, and finite element modeling were conducted to elucidate the relationship between pore architecture and pyroelectric properties. The results demonstrate that bidirectionally freeze-cast ceramics possess superior pyroelectric responses, exhibiting significantly enhanced pyroelectric current densities and coefficients compared to other pore structures. Finite element simulations reveal that the optimized anisotropic pore morphology in bidirectional samples significantly enhances thermal conductivity and pyroelectric potential distribution. Practical device-level evaluations further validate that the bidirectional pore architecture achieves the highest pyroelectric power figure of merit, current responsivity, and detectivity under periodic thermal stimuli. This systematic investigation not only addresses the critical knowledge gap regarding pore-structure-dependent pyroelectric properties but also provides valuable guidelines for the design of high-performance pyroelectric devices.

Flexible organic/inorganic piezoelectric nanocomposites are highly demanded for flexible wearable electronic devices due to their excellent mechanical flexibility and high piezoelectric performance. However, the output performance of ceramic-polymer-based piezoelectric nanogenerators (PENGs) is restricted by the poor electrical conductivity of the organic matrix and the distinct discrepancy in mechanical strength between inorganic filler and organic matrix. Herein, we propose a flexible piezoelectric polymer nanocomposite based on CNTs@PZT nanofibers (NFs) network where the carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were introduced into the piezoelectric lead zirconate titanate (PZT) NFs to simultaneously improve the electrical conductivity and mechanical strength of nanocomposites. When subjected to a periodical bending deformation , the CNTs@PZT NFs network-based PENG with optimal addition of CNTs (0.6 wt%) generates a maximum electrical output up to ∼12.5 V and ∼80 nA cm −2 which is four times higher than that of PENGs without CNTs doping. An ultrahigh power density of 91.7 nW cm −2 is obtained with an external load resistance of 40 MΩ when pressed via a 10 N compressive force , and furthermore, the generated power could charge a capacitor and further light a commercial LED. This work may pave a new way for the development of high-output nanocomposite-type PENGs.

High-power PZT-based piezoelectric ceramics with high electromechanical properties are in urgent demand in the market. In this study, Mn ions were introduced into 0.36 Pb(Ni 1/3 Nb 2/3 )O 3 –0.28PbZrO 3 –0.36PbTiO 3 (PNN–PZT) ceramics in the form of Pb(Mn 1/3 Nb 2/3 )O 3 (PMnN) to synthesize a quaternary piezoelectric ceramic ( x PMnN–PNN–PZT) with coexistence of rhombohedral and tetragonal phases. The addition of PMnN caused the grain sizes to continuously decrease from 3.29 μm to 1.58 μm. However, the density first increased and then decreased, reaching a maximum value of 8.02 g/cm 3 at x = 0.07. The increased internal bias field ( E i ) and domain size suppressed the domain wall motion and domain switching, reducing internal friction and improving the mechanical quality factor ( Q m ). Compared with Q m ∼146 of undoped PNN–PZT ceramics, the maximum Q m of 0.07PMnN-PNN-PZT reached approximately 2244. And the Vickers hardness of x PMnN–PNN–PZT ceramics was promoted from ∼356 HV ( x = 0) to ∼480 HV ( x = 0.07). In addition, the other optimal electromechanical performances: piezoelectric coefficient d 33 = 202 pC/N, planar electromechanical coupling coefficient k p = 0.45, Curie temperature T c = 198 and dielectric loss tan δ = 0.0059 were also achieved at x = 0.07. This work provides a feasible way for the development and application of high-power piezoelectric ceramics.

Self-powered wearable electronics for real-time physiological monitoring require mechanical energy harvesters that simultaneously offer high sensitivity, flexibility, and power density, yet most existing piezoelectric nanogenerators struggle to efficiently convert low-frequency biomechanical energy under these constraints. In particular, polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)-based composite fibers often suffer from limited interfacial charge transport and insufficient piezoelectric response, which restricts their use in practical, textile-integrated devices. Here, we develop a high-performance piezoelectric composite fiber, PZT-O V /Ti 3 C 2 T x /PVDF, by electrostatic spinning self-assembly of oxygen vacancy–engineered lead zirconate titanate (PZT-O V ), MXene (Ti 3 C 2 T x ), and PVDF. The resulting prickly-fibril interfacial structure between PZT-O V and Ti 3 C 2 T x enables ultrafast carrier transport and enhanced mechanosensitive, yielding flexible piezoelectric nanogenerators (PENGs) with a 15-fold increase in current density under compression. Optimized devices deliver a peak power density of 4.78 μW cm −2 , a sensitivity of 1.46 V kPa −1 , and an energy conversion efficiency of 14.8%. Integrated into wearable textiles, these PENGs harvest subtle biomechanical energy and wirelessly transmit data via Bluetooth, enabling self-powered monitoring of body temperature and heart rate. These results demonstrate that combining oxygen vacancy engineering with MXene-assisted interfacial design in electrospun fibers is an effective strategy for advancing high-performance, self-powered wearable biosensing systems.

3D interconnected PZT skeletons are built via particle-stabilized foaming. • CNT-containing interfacial layers mitigate dielectric mismatch in composites. • High d 33 , g 33 and FOM 33 are achieved with only 13.3 vol% ceramic loading. • Piezoelectric sensors demonstrate high sensitivity of 120 V/MPa and linearity. Flexible piezoelectric materials capable of converting complex mechanical motions into electrical outputs are emerging as key components for wearable electronics, soft robotic systems, and self-powered sensors. However, it remains difficult to combine high mechanical compliance with superior electrical performance. Typically, high ceramic loading is necessary to achieve greatly enhanced piezoelectric properties in ceramic-polymer composites, resulting in poor flexibility. Here, a structural-and-interfacial engineering strategy is proposed to overcome this long-standing trade-off and enable high-performance flexible piezoelectric composites at low ceramic content. By combining a three-dimensional interconnected ceramic framework with effective interfacial modulation, polarization transport and stress transfer are simultaneously improved, while dielectric mismatch is mitigated. As a result, the piezoelectric performance is remarkably enhanced in the composite, delivering d 33 = 249.4 pC·N −1 , g 33 = 214.7 mV·m·N −1 , and FOM 33 = 53.6 pm 2 ·N −1 with only 13.3 vol% lead zirconate titanate (PZT) loading, while maintaining moderate flexibility. A self-powered pressure sensor based on the composite shows high sensitivity (120 V·MPa −1 ) and excellent linearity. This work demonstrates an effective route toward lightweight, high-output piezoelectric composites and offers useful design guidelines for flexible piezoelectric materials in sensing and mechanical energy-harvesting applications.

Ultrasonic non-destructive testing (NDT) is widely used in industrial applications; however, conventional rigid ultrasonic sensors suffer from poor conformability and degraded signal quality when applied to complex curved surfaces. In this study, a flexible lead zirconate titanate (PZT)-based ultrasonic sensor is developed using a silver foil substrate and electrohydrodynamic jet (E-jet) printing to fabricate thickness-controllable PZT thick films. By controlling the thicknesses of the substrate and the piezoelectric functional layer, a thickness-coordinated design strategy enables optimised operating bandwidth while preserving mechanical flexibility. The fabricated sensor exhibits a high piezoelectric coefficient of 126 pC/N and demonstrates effective sensitivity across a broad frequency range, from hundreds of kilohertz to several megahertz, through thickness-coordinated design. Experimental validations using thickness-tailored sensors show that high-frequency bulk-wave testing can detect internal defects as small as 0.7 mm, while low-frequency guided-wave inspection enables large-area defect localisation within a 500 mm × 500 mm region, highlighting the potential of the proposed sensor for versatile industrial NDT applications.

Lanthanum (La)-modified lead zirconate titanate (PLZT) thin films with doping concentration from 0 to 5 at.-% have been fabricated by sol-gel methods to investigate the effects of La doping on crystalline orientation, microstructure and dielectric properties of the modified films. The characterization of PLZT thin films were performed by X-ray diffractometry (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and precision impedance analysis. XRD analysis showed that PLZT films with La doping concentration below 4 at.-% exhibited (100) preferred orientation. SEM results indicated that PLZT films presented dense and columnar microstructures when La doping concentration was less than 3 at.-%, while the others showed columnar microstructures only at the bottom of the cross section. The maximum dielectric constant (1502.59 at 100 Hz) was obtained in a 2 at.-% La-doped film, which increased by 53.9 % compared with undoped film. Without introducing a seed layer, (100) oriented PLZT thin films were prepared by using conventional heat treatment process and adjusting La doping concentration.

Piezoelectric ceramic materials are widely employed in actuation and sensing applications owing to their exceptional electromechanical properties. Multilayer piezoelectric actuators (MLAs) demonstrate significant reductions in driving voltage and enhanced output performance by employing a multilayer structural design that integrates internal electrodes. In this study, a high-performance PZT-based ceramic was selected to fabricate novel Ag-cofired MLAs sintered at 920 ℃ 4 h in a dimension of 10 × 10 × 24 mm 3 . The piezoelectric, dielectric, and ferroelectric characteristics of the ceramic were systematically evaluated. The fabricated MLAs exhibited a displacement of 2 μm with minimal hysteresis (low H ~ 12%), while maintaining remarkable temperature stability (variation less than 14% within 30–100 °C), pronounced strain response ( S max ~ 0.10%), and robust fatigue resistance(strain value from 0.694 to 0.671% after 10 6 cycles). These attributes make the developed multilayer piezoelectric materials as promising candidates for precision actuation systems. The capabilities of piezoelectric actuators are expanded by low operating voltage and high force amplitude, rendering them suitable for a wider range of control applications.

Multifunctional Nb 2 O 5 doping enhances both printability and performance of VPP-fabricated PZT ceramics. • Nb 2 O 5 reduces lateral overexposure, improving printing accuracy and surface quality. • Sintering densification and grain refinement are achieved via Nb 2 O 5 as a sintering aid. • High piezoelectric response ( d 33 ≈ 510 pC/N) and ferroelectric properties are obtained. • Functional lattice structures demonstrate stable underwater acousto-electric conversion. Inorganic precursors such as PbCO 3 can address the forming difficulties of traditional lead zirconate titanate (PZT) powders in vat photopolymerization (VPP) additive manufacturing. However, these precursors still exhibit limitations such as limited printing accuracy, poor densification, and constrained electrical properties, which have greatly restricted the application prospects of VPP-fabricated PZT ceramics. In this work, using ZrO 2 , TiO 2 , and PbCO 3 powders as raw materials, we propose a novel multifunctional Nb 2 O 5 doping strategy to fabricate complex-structured PZT ceramics via VPP with optimal dimensional precision. After doping, Nb 2 O 5 acts as an “embedded light absorber” that suppresses lateral overexposure, reducing the light-spot half-width w 0 by approximately 20% and green-body roughness from R a = 22.1 μm to 18.5 μm. Moreover, Nb 2 O 5 serves as a sintering aid and a property modifier, refining grains to 1–1.5 μm and increasing density from 7.40 to 7.62 g·cm −3 . It also reduces oxygen vacancies and induces lattice distortion (coexisting rhombohedral and tetragonal phases) and domain refinement. As a result, the ferroelectric, piezoelectric, and dielectric relaxation behaviors improve significantly (5 mol%: P r = 33.9 μC·cm −2 , d 33 = 510.2 pC·N −1 , and γ ≈ 2), producing high-precision lattice structures with a minimum strut diameter of 450 μm. The device delivered a maximum output voltage of 1.3 V at a 4 mm displacement and exhibited stable underwater acousto-electric conversion from 10 to 100 kHz. The proposed multifunctional doping concept overcomes the traditional trade-off between printability and piezoelectric properties in photocurable ceramics, providing a generalizable materials design framework to accelerate the development of advanced additive manufacturing for functional inorganic materials.
