Simultaneous avoidance of secondary air pollution and catalyst deactivation remains a challenge for existing photocatalytic removal of nitric oxide (NO). Herein, a photocatalysis-adsorption (P-A) heterojunction is synthesized for eco-friendly NO removal by facilely grinding Pd single atoms (Pd 1 ) anchored g-C 3 N 4 (48CN/Pd) with UiO-66-NH 2 (UION). Under visible-light irradiation, the 40UION-CN/Pd composite shows 93.91 % of NO removal efficiency with only 2.73 % of NO 2 emissions and negligible catalyst deactivation. The DeNO x index increases remarkably from −0.66 for 48CN/Pd to 0.86 for 40UION-CN/Pd. Furthermore, the synthesized P-A heterojunction efficiently removes NO from real flue gases produced by a domestic coal-fired stove and from SO 2 -rich flue gases. The mechanism exploration based on experimental investigations and density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveals that UION captures the NO 2 selectively produced by 48CN/Pd, simultaneously suppressing NO 2 emissions and refreshing active sites for NO photooxidation. Moreover, the results of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), charge density difference calculation, energy-resolved distribution of electron traps (ERDT) and in-situ Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) reveal that the built-in electric field and Type-II heterojunction formed between 48CN/Pd and UION promote the separation of photogenerated carriers, enhancing the catalytic activity of the composite. This work provides an innovative strategy to avoid NO 2 emission and catalyst deactivation during photocatalytic NO removal.

The presence of elevated levels of norfloxacin (NOR) in the aquatic environment presents a serious risk to both human health and environmental organisms due to its extremely toxic and persistent characteristics. Herein, a series of Fe/Ti bimetallic composites (NH 2 -MIL-53(Fe/Ti)) were prepared using a one-step hydrothermal method to assess their capability for NOR degradation and investigate degradation mechanisms. It was observed that the well-organized nanosheets interconnected to form chrysanthemum clusters contained a significant number of exposed edges and open pores, which facilitated the enrichment of NOR. Notably, the optimum NH 2 -MIL-53(Fe/Ti) (1.5:1) demonstrated excellent degradation performance for NOR under visible light, owing to an electronic interaction between Fe 3+ and Ti 4+ metal centers. Efficient NOR degradation by NH 2 -MIL-53(Fe/Ti) (1.5:1) was achieved at 84.6% after 120 min of irradiation. Furthermore, the NH 2 -MIL-53(Fe/Ti) (1.5:1) maintained excellent reusability and stability even after five cycles tests. Active species trapping experiments confirmed that the pivotal role of •O 2 − and h + in photodegradation of NOR pollutants. A plausible photocatalytic mechanism was suggested according to various performance characterization and experimental results. Defluorination and ring opening were the main degradation pathways. This work advanced our understanding of photogenerated carriers transfer and energy conversion in bimetallic MOFs . Additionally, a novel strategy was presented for visible light catalytic degradation of NOR, which were highly relevant for the field of environmental treatment.

Antibiotic residues are becoming more and more concern due to the increasingly serious resistance from bacteria to organism. On-site and accurate evaluation on antibiotics is necessary and urgent to effectively solve such public issue. To provide point-of-care-test (POCT) ideas for antibiotic accurate evaluation, a fluorescence (FL)-surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) dual-mode detection of tetracycline antibiotic (TCs) was realized for the first time. Based on the inner filter effect in Ag@NH 2 -MIL-101(Al) nanoprobe, the fluorescence quenching was induced and the SERS signal was swiftly turn on through π-π interaction and hydrogen bonding in the presence of TCs. This FL-SERS dual mode sensor displayed excellent detection limits (FL in ∼10 −3 ppm, SERS in ∼10 −5 ppm), and achieved a reliable detection of TCs in honey with a recovery rate of 84.45%−112.08%. This method combines the advantages of FL and SERS detection, meanwhile, two techniques verified against each other to achieve highly sensitive and specific FL-SERS dual-mode sensor for TCs. We believe that such antibody-or aptamer-independent FL and SERS complementary nanoprobe can be applied to fast, direct and multiple sensing in environment and food hazards.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have been proved as efficient catalysts for photocatalytic hydrogen (H 2 ) evolution, thanks to their tunable functionalities, permanent porosity, excellent visible light response, and physicochemical stability. Herein, a series of photocatalysts (termed NUBC) was fabricated by loading different amounts of Zr-UiO-66-NH 2 (NU) onto a benzoic acid–modified covalent triazine–based framework (BC) based on post-synthetic covalent modification. The resulting NUBC catalysts exhibited a type-II Z-scheme heterojunction structure formed via the amide covalent bonds between the amine groups on NU and carboxyl groups on BC. The optimal loading of NU on BC is 30 wt.% (30NUBC) and the corresponding photocatalytic H 2 evolution rate was 378 μmol h −1 g −1 , almost 445 and 2 times than that of NU and BC, respectively. The synergistic effect between the type-II Z-scheme heterojunctions and amide bonds was conducive to boosting visible light harvesting and facilitating charge transportation and separation. Furthermore, the prepared NUBC catalysts show great reusability and stability. Overall, this work sheds light on the design of novel MOF/COF hybrid materials and provides a systematic exploration of their photocatalytic H 2 evolution properties.

The core–shell structure UiO-66-NH 2 @Ni-MOF was prepared by in-diffusion growth of 2D Ni-MOF on UiO-66-NH 2 using PVP (polyvinylpyrrolidone) as a structural guide. It was applied to the adsorption of U(VI) in aqueous solution. The materials were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS). The UiO-66-NH 2 @Ni-MOF adsorption to U(VI) was investigated experimentally. The study showed that the adsorption of U(VI) onto UiO-66-NH 2 @Ni-MOF was endothermic and spontaneous. At pH 5.00 and 308 K, the adsorption capacity was 581.40 mg/g according to Langmuir model. In addition, the adsorption process can be described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The adsorption capacity was kept at 83.83% of its original one after five sorption–desorption cycles, a promising indication for repetitive usage.

A novel composite of acetic acid-modulated AC-NH 2 -MIL-101(Fe) was prepared by mild chemistry . The catalyst was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Brunaure-Emmett-Teller (BET) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Acetic acid can control the crystal size, so that the catalyst had a large specific surface area (99.35 m 2 ·g −1 ) and pore size (0.13 cm 3 ·g −1 ), the adsorption amount of Rhodamine B (RhB) up to 446.965 mg·g −1 , after the addition of peroxydisulfate (PDS), the catalytic degradation efficiency of RhB was as high as 99.7%. Electronic paramagnetic resonance spectrometer (EPR) and quenching experiments showed that the catalytic process may involve radical (·OH, SO 4 -· and O 2 ·- ) and non-radical ( 1 O 2 ) processes, in which the contribution of 1 O 2 to degradation reached 63.55% and played a major role.

In terms of nanofiltration (NF) membrane development, the properties of membrane substrates and thin-film composite (TFC) structures have become an important factor to determine the separation performances of NF membrane. In this paper, the method of interfacial polymerization assisted by spacer spraying was used to construct the striped structure at nanometer scale. Nanoscale striped structure was prepared successfully on PPTA (poly( p -phenylene terephthamide)) NF surface with 1.3 g/L of UiO-66-NH 2 in the aqueous phase, and the morphology gradually changed to “point shaped” structure when 2.6 g/L of UiO-66-NH 2 in the aqueous phase. The optimized PPTA/UiO-66-NH 2 NF (PU4) membranes were used for dye/salt separation of methylene blue (MB). Compared with the nascent PPTA NF membranes, it showed a higher MB rejection rate of 98.6%, along with permeation flux of 19.79 L/m 2 \(\cdot\) h \(\cdot\) MPa. The salt separation order of the PU4 membrane was Na 2 SO 4 > MgSO 4 > MgCl 2 > NaCl. The rejection rates were 96.3%, 85.4%, 53.2%, and 18.4%, respectively. Under strong acid and alkali conditions, the separation performance was rejected 86.5%, better under alkaline conditions. More importantly, after a six-time recycle, the PU4 membrane showed no significant change in separation performance, suggesting its excellent stability. The novel strategy in this study provided an approach to develop advanced UiO-66-NH 2 membranes toward sustainable molecular separation in environmental applications. Graphical abstract

Flexible wearable sensors to monitor human movement and for electronic skins must exhibit high sensitivity, a wide detection range, and waterproof characteristics. This work reports a flexible, highly sensitive, and waterproof sponge pressure sensor (SMCM). The sensor is made by assembling SiO2 (S), MXene (M), and NH2-CNTs (C) on the backbone of melamine sponge (M). The SMCM sensor exhibits excellent sensitivity (10.8 kPa–1), an ultra-short response/recovery time (40 ms/60 ms), a wide detection range (30 kPa), and an extremely low detection limit (4.6 Pa). Benefiting from layer-by-layer self-assembly, the sensor still exhibits excellent stability after 5000 cycles. In addition, the SMCM sensor also has excellent waterproof performance (a water contact angle of 142°), enabling it to operate unaffectedly under wet conditions. The SMCM sensor can accurately detect small body movements such as pulse and swallowing while also accurately detecting finger and elbow movements. In addition, the sensor can be designed as an array to construct an electronic skin for detecting the magnitude and distribution of external pressure. This work holds great application potential in next-generation electronic skin, fitness detection, and flexible pressure sensors.

Unstable contact interface, inferior charge transmission efficiency and low redox capability significantly inhibit the photocatalytic property of heterojunctions . Herein, a stable AgCl/NH 2 -MIL-68In Z-scheme heterojunction that couples with plasmonic Ag nanoparticles (NPs) to promote efficient long-range charge separation is rationally designed. This heterostructure is successfully fabricated by the in-situ growth of AgCl and Ag NPs on the surface and framework of NH 2 -MIL-68In via a facile ion exchange precipitation approach. Benefiting from the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect of Ag NPs and the interfacial heterojunction, the visible light response is enhanced and the recombination rate of photogenerated charges is weakened. Impressively, the artificial Z-scheme heterojunction exhibits superior photocatalytic activity for levofloxacin degradation. Furthermore, the adjustment of the AgCl and Ag NPs loading ratio of NH 2 -MIL-68In further improves the photocatalytic degradation activity of levofloxacin (0.0222 min −1 ), which is much higher than that of pure NH 2 -MIL-68In ( k = 0.00121 min −1 ) and AgCl ( k = 0.00093 min −1 ). This work not only develops an effective photocatalyst for the degradation of organic pollutants, but also provides a promising sight for feasible designing the more stable Z-scheme heterojunction with efficient charge separation efficiency.

Pt nanoparticle-anchored zirconium-based metal organic framework nanocomposites (Pt@UiO66-NH 2 ) with large surface areas and highly dispersed Pt nanoparticles were synthesized and applied to prepare acetylcholinesterase (AChE) biosensors for organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) detection. Because of integrative impact of excellent electron conduction channels and the increasing of adsorption sites of Pt@UiO66-NH 2 as well as the ultrahigh surface area to increase AChE immobilization, the prepared biosensors exhibited high sensitivity towards malathion (as a model for OPs), malathion was detected ranging from 1 × 10 −14 M to 1 × 10 −9 M and 4.9 × 10 −15 M was regarded as limit of detection. The biosensors also displayed accurately. Moreover, the Pt@UiO66-NH 2 /GCE was used to detect OPs in cabbage and apple samples. This study manifests the profound potential of metal nanoparticle/MOF composites for biosensors with improved electrochemical performance.

TiO 2 @NH 2 -MIL-88B(Fe) heterostructures (TMFe-x) were successfully synthesized and used in an efficient sunlight-driven reduction towards Cr(VI) in a neutral aqueous media. Further, the prepared TMFe-x heterostructures exhibited higher photocatalytic activity when compared with those exhibited by pure TiO 2 and NH 2 -MIL-88B(Fe) under simulated sunlight irradiation. The optical TiO 2 modification content was determined to be 10 wt.% (TMFe-b), with 98.6% Cr(VI) being converted to Cr(III) within 35 min using ammonium oxalate as the hole scavenger at pH = 7. In neutral conditions, the kinetic rate constant (0.0878 min −1 ) was five times larger than the published values. Additionally, the photocatalytic performance of TMFe-b was maintained and Fe leaching was observed to be negligible after the completion of four reaction cycles. The superior photocatalytic property can be attributed to the high photoelectron-hole separation and migration efficiency. Subsequently, TMFe-b achieved Cr(VI) reduction under neutral conditions by capturing hydrogen from the water molecules or the hole scavengers. The photoelectrons and superoxide radicals were the main active species. Furthermore, TMFe-b was able to efficiently eliminate various pollutants through photocatalytic oxidation and reduction. This study suggests a novel strategy for the preparation of environmentally stable and efficient MOF-based photocatalysts to efficiently eliminate various pollutants. Further, there is a huge potential for the practical application of this technology to water purification .

Long-term accumulation of organophosphate pesticides in environment presents a potential hazard to human and animal health. Towards this, a highly sensitive amperometric AChE-biosensor based on conjugated polymer and Ag-rGO-NH 2 nanocomposite has been successfully developed. First, 4, 7-di (furan-2-yl) benzo thiadiazole (FBThF) was electrochemically polymerized on the electrode surface. Then, Ag-rGO-NH 2 nanocomposite and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) are modified on the polymer membrane surface. In this way, a novel amperometric AChE-biosensor was successfully prepared. The as-prepared biosensor possessed excellent conductivity, catalytic activity , and biocompatibility which were attributed to the synergistic effects of poly(FBThF) and Ag-rGO-NH 2 and provided a hydrophilic surface for AChE adhesion. Under optimized conductions, the linear range was 0.099–9.9 μg L −1 with a regression coefficient of 0.9947 for malathion , 0.0206–2.06 μg L −1 with a regression coefficient of 0.9969 for trichlorfon . The detection limit is calculated to be about 0.032 μg L −1 for malathion and 0.001 μg L −1 for trichlorfon (S/N = 3). Moreover, the biosensor exhibited acceptable reproducibility and long-term stability, which makes it possible to provide a novel and promising tool for analysis of organophosphate pesticides.
