Microwave-assisted synthesis of Ag-doped MOFs-like organotitanium polymer with high activity in visible-light driven photocatalytic NO oxidization

Wei Zhu,Peijue Liu,Shuning Xiao,Wenchao Wang,Dieqing Zhang,Hexing Li

A novel Ag-doped MOF-like organotitanium polymer (Ag@NH 2 -MOP(Ti)) was synthesized via a microwave-assisted coordination and polymerization reaction with 2-aminoterephthalic acid (H 2 ATA) and tetra- n -butyl titanate (Ti(OC 4 H 9 ) 4 ), followed by the crystal growth and assembly onto Ag nanoparticles (NPs). This Ag@NH 2 -MOP(Ti) exhibited excellent activity in visible-light driven photocatalytic NO oxidization, much higher than N -doped TiO 2 by two times. The NH 2 -MOP(Ti) absorbed visible lights to generate photoelectrons and holes, accompanied by producing HO and O 2 − active sites for the subsequent NO oxidation into NO 3 − . The Ag NPs allowed assembly of NH 2 -MOP(Ti) polymer favoring light absorbance via multiple reflections and also facilitated photoelectrons transfer to reduce photoelectron–hole recombination, leading to the enhanced photocatalytic activity for NO oxidation and inactivating bacteria. Moreover, it could be used repetitively owing to the high stability.

Effect of support on the performance of Mn–Cu oxides for low temperature selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH3

Wei-guo Pan,Jie-nan Hong,Rui-tang Guo,Wen-long Zhen,Hong-lei Ding,Qiang Jin,Cheng-gang Ding,Shi-yi Guo

MnO x –CuO x /TiO 2 and MnO x –CuO x /Al 2 O 3 catalysts were prepared by sol–gel method and used for low temperature selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH 3 . The results showed that MnO x –CuO x /TiO 2 had better catalytic activity and SO 2 resistance than MnO x –CuO x /Al 2 O 3 in the temperature range of 100–250   °C. The properties of the catalysts were characterized by using XRD, N 2 adsorption, temperature programmed reduction (H 2 -TPR) and temperature programmed desorption (NH 3 -TPD). It was found that the support has a great impact on the acidity of catalyst; TiO 2 and Al 2 O 3 can promote the formation of Lewis acid sites and Brönsted acid sites respectively.

Extremely sensitive, highly selective and fast recovery NO sensor based on WO3 modified nanomaterials for application to exhaled breath analyzers

Renjun Si,Hongze Jiang,Suijiang Xie,Xin Guo,Shunping Zhang

In response to the challenges posed by limited portability and high costs associated with current fractional exhaled nitric oxide (NO) detection equipment, a miniaturized metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) gas sensor has been developed for NO detection, leveraging the principles of MOS gas sensors and MEMS technology. This sensor employs 2   mol% Ta-WO 3 as its sensitive material, achieving a NO detection limit of 5 ppb, along with rapid response and recovery times of 30   seconds and 10   seconds respectively. It also exhibits exceptional selectivity and stability. During tests involving both single-component gases and mixtures containing twelve interfering gases, the response amplitude and interference rate for NO remained below 5 ppb. This indicates that the 2   mol% Ta-WO 3 sensor demonstrates commendable precision and practicality. The choice of sensitive material, along with its performance optimization methods, holds significant importance for advancing research in NO detection as well as enhancing the selectivity of MOS gas sensors.

Fabrication of SiC catalytic filter with low vanadium loading and highly uniform structure for efficient NO reduction and dust removal

Xiangsen Xu,Jiangxiao Qiao,Shibo Yu,Jiahao Chen,Yiqing Zeng,Feng Zhang,Zhaoxiang Zhong,Weihong Xing

The rational design of catalysts and the establishment of uniform filter structure are key points in the development of high-performance catalytic filters. To resolve the issue of increased N 2 O concentration in catalysts with high vanadium content at high temperatures, a range of catalytic filters with low vanadium loading were fabricated by partially substituting vanadium in 6VWTi catalysts with transition metals (Mn, Cu, Co and Ce). The experimental results show that the introduction of Ce, which leads to rich surface-adsorbed reactive oxygen species, good redox properties and appropriate surface acidity, thus the 1V5CeWTi/SiC catalytic filter exhibits the highest denitration efficiency (NO conversion >90 % at the temperature of 300–500 °C without N 2 O production), presenting significant advantages in contrast to 1VWTi/SiC and 6VWTi/SiC. Furthermore, the preparation technology was optimized to obtain a more uniform structure, which enhanced NH 3 -SCR performance and reduced filter pressure drop. The optimized 1V5CeWTi/SiC also exhibited exceptional resistance to SO 2  + H 2 O and long-term stability for a duration of 200 h at 300 °C, as well as displays a noteworthy efficiency in filtering particulate matter (10 μm SiO 2 ). Therefore, the optimized 1V5CeWTi/SiC catalytic filter holds great potential in the realm of gas purification.

Functionalized Mesoporous Polydopamine Nanocarrier with Near-Infrared Laser-Trigged NO Release and Photothermal Effects for the Killing of Pathogenic Bacteria

Huajuan Wang,Jiale Ma,Shutong Meng,Han Zou,Hongxun Wang,Min Zhou

The rapid emergence and spread of drug-resistant pathogens pose a serious threat to human health. To overcome this problem, the exploration of new antibacterial agents, especially antibiotic-free strategies, is urgent. Here, nitric oxide (NO) release and photothermal effects were integrated into a single nanoplatform to achieve more efficient antibacterial effects. The nanoplatform (SNP/MPDA) was composed of mesoporous polydopamine (MPDA) and sodium nitroferricyanide (III) dihydrate (SNP). Near-infrared (NIR)-light could make MPDA produce high temperature, which could not only effectively kill bacteria but also induce SNPs to generate NO to kill bacteria. The NO/photothermal strategy showed the ability to kill both Gram-negative Escherichia coli and Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureusand destruct mature biofilm. This antibiotic-free strategy had the advantage of producing NO in situ, thereby showing its high antibacterial activity and great potential in killing pathogens. This work provides insights into the design of more efficient antimicrobial strategies without antibiotics.

Hydrothermal pretreatment of lignin-derived activated carbon for enhanced competitive adsorption of benzene and NO: Mechanistic insights from DFT simulations

Hongliang Sheng,Shuainan Wang,Tao He,Xiaoben Zhao,Jinfeng Zhang,Song He,Yajun Huang

In this study, mesoporous activated carbon with high specific surface area was synthesized using lignin as the carbon source through hydrothermal pretreatment and alkali activation. The prepared activated carbon HL-4–200–800 exhibited a specific surface area as high as 3057 m²/g and a pore volume of 2.80 cm³/g. The excellent physicochemical properties were confirmed by comprehensive characterization methods including nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms, elemental analysis (EA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Moreover, the prepared samples demonstrated outstanding adsorption performance, with a saturated adsorption capacity of 2030.13 mg/g for gaseous benzene and 140.41 mg/g for NO at 298 K. Further analysis through isotherm fitting, adsorption kinetics modeling, and ideal adsorbed solution theory (IAST) indicated that the material showed significantly better adsorption selectivity for benzene than for NO. Density functional theory (DFT) simulations revealed the competitive adsorption mechanism between benzene and NO, highlighting the crucial role of surface functional groups in enhancing adsorption efficiency.

Insight into the anti-proliferation activity and photoinduced NO release of four nitrosylruthenium isomeric complexes and their HSA complex adducts

Shi Jia,Xie Leilei,Gong Wenjun,Bai Hehe,Wang Wenming,Wang Ai,Cao Wei,Tong Hongbo,Wang Hongfei

Four Ru(II)-centered isomeric complexes [RuCl(5cqn)(Val)(NO)] (1-4) were synthesized with 5cqn (5-chloro-8-hydroxyquinoline) and chiral Val (Val = L- or D-valine) as co-ligand, and their structures were confirmed using the X-ray diffraction method. The cytotoxicity and photodynamic activity of the isomeric complexes and their human serum albumin (HSA) complex adducts were evaluated. Both the isomeric complexes and their HSA complex adducts significantly affected HeLa cell proliferation, with an IC50 value in the range of 0.3–0.5 μM. The photo-controlled release of NO in solution was confirmed using time-resolved FT-IR and EPR spectroscopy techniques. Furthermore, photoinduced NO release in living cells was observed using a selective fluorescent probe for NO. Moreover, the binding constants (Kb) of the complexes with HSA were calculated to be 0.17–1.98 × 104 M−1 and the average number of binding sites (n) was found to be close to 1, it can serve as a crucial carrier for delivering metal complexes. The crystal structure of the HSA complex adduct revealed that one [RuCl(H2O)(NO)(Val)]+ molecule binds to a pocket in domain I. This study provides insight into possible mechanism of metabolism and potential applications for nitrosylruthenium complexes.

Effect of Drying Temperature on Sensory Quality, Flavor Components, and Bioactivity of Lichuan Black Tea Processed by Echa No. 10

Dan Su,Junyu Zhu,Yuchuan Li,Muxue Qin,Zhendong Lei,Jingtao Zhou,Zhi Yu,Yuqiong Chen,De Zhang,Dejiang Ni

Lichuan black tea (LBT) is a well-known congou black tea in China, but there is relatively little research on its processing technology. Echa No. 10 is the main tea tree variety for producing LBT. This study investigated the sensory quality, flavor components, and bioactivity of Echa No. 10 Lichuan black tea (LBT) at different drying temperatures (70, 80, 90, 100, 110, 120, and 130 °C). During 80–120 °C, increasing the drying temperature enabled a higher sweet aroma concentration and enhanced the sweetness in the taste, in contrast to reducing the floral, fruity, and sweet aromas, and increasing the bitterness and astringency, at >120 °C. Additionally, with an increasing drying temperature, the contents of tea polyphenols and total catechins significantly decreased, with the theaflavins decreasing first and then increasing, and the alcohols, aldehydes, esters, and hydrocarbons increasing first and then decreasing. Meanwhile, compounds (including linalool, (Z)-linalool oxide (furanoid), (E)-linalool oxide (furanoid), cis-β-Ocimene, and methyl salicylate) contribute more to the floral and fruity aromas at <110 °C. Furthermore, low-temperature drying favors the antioxidant and inhibitory effects of the α-amylase, α-glucosidase, and glucose absorption activity. Both the tea quality and bioactivity results revealed 80–110 °C as the optimal drying temperature range for LBT.

An angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitory peptide LVLPGE exerts an antihypertensive effect and improves endothelial function via eNOS/NO/cGMP pathway

Zishan Dou,Yang Xu,Jingli Liu,Wei Chen

LVLPGE is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory peptide extracted from broccoli protein hydrolysates. The antihypertensive mechanism of LVLPGE was explored in the present study. The results indicated that the IC 50 value of LVLPGE was 19.49 μM, and its binding to ACE occurred via a static fluorescence quenching involving the secondary structure changes of ACE. In addition, LVLPGE competitively bound to the active site of ACE through hydrogen bonding. Furthermore, LVLPGE markedly enhanced the levels of the vasodilator nitric oxide (NO) in the Ang I-induced HUVECs model, suppressed the expression of vasoconstrictor endothelin-1 (ET-1), and increased the phosphorylation of eNOS. Moreover, LVLPGE was found to enhance the production of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), which leading to a subsequent decrease in intracellular calcium concentration, ultimately facilitating the relaxation of vascular smooth muscles and lowering the blood pressure. These results demonstrated that LVLPGE achieves the antihypertensive effects by inhibiting ACE activity and activating the eNOS/NO/cGMP signaling pathway. This study provides new insights into the antihypertensive mechanism of LVLPGE and contributes to the high-value utilization of broccoli resources.

NO-Releasing Metal–Organic Framework-Based Composite Coatings with Heparin-Mimicking Copolymers on Titanium Substrates: Impact on Vascular Cell Behavior

Denghai Sheng,Shuaihang Guo,Aiqing Li,Qiulian Wu,Mengying Zhan,Xiaoli Liu,Hong Chen

Nitric oxide (NO), known for its anticoagulant and antiproliferative effects, holds great promise in anticoagulation therapy. Copper-based metal–organic frameworks, such as CuBTTri, catalyze NO formation, but their impact on vascular cells requires further study. In this work, polydopamine, polyethylenimine, and CuBTTri were codeposited on titanium substrates. To enhance cytocompatibility, heparin-mimicking copolymers were incorporated. By adjusting CuBTTri content, NO release rates and cytotoxicity toward vascular cells were regulated. The heparin-mimicking copolymers improved the cytocompatibility with human umbilical vein endothelial cells, while NO released from CuBTTri inhibited the proliferation of human umbilical vein smooth muscle cells. By integrating NO-releasing CuBTTri with heparin-mimicking copolymers, we successfully developed a composite coating that selectively modulates vascular cell behavior.

Two-Step Hydrothermal Synthesis of Fly Ash-Based β Zeolite and Its Application in Catalytic Oxidation of NO with H2O2

Jing Li,Suxia Ma,Nuo Xu

Fly ash, a solid waste rich in silicon (Si) and aluminum (Al), offers significant potential for valorization through the high-value synthesis of zeolites, exemplifying the waste-to-wealth approach. We determined the optimal synthesis conditions for FA-β zeolite using the alkali fusion hydrothermal synthesis method, with fly ash as the primary raw material. The conditions included a NaOH/FA ratio of 1.2, a SiO2/Al2O3 ratio of 30, an H2O/Al2O3 ratio of 1200, a TEAOH/Al2O3 ratio of 14, a β-seed addition of 7.5%, and hydrothermal conditions of 140 °C for 72 h. XRD and FTIR analyses confirmed that the diffraction peaks of the synthesized fly ash-based zeolite align well with the standard pattern of commercial β zeolite. Removal experiments indicated that the efficiency of nitrogen oxides removal hinges on the adequate oxidation of NO. Under optimized conditions, the FA-β zeolite demonstrated a removal efficiency of 83%. ESR analysis revealed that the removal mechanism involves the oxidative elimination of NO, catalyzed by FA-β zeolite through the decomposition of H2O2 to OH radicals. This novel synthesis method, which utilizes fly ash as the raw material to prepare β zeolite, offers advantages in terms of cost-effectiveness and environmental protection. It holds significant potential for applications in environmental conservation.

Surface charge transfer adjustment from designing thin-layer structure targeted O2 adsorption and activation for deep NO oxidation on Bi2MoO6

Hongjing Liu,Shan Ren,Xiaodi Li,Liang Wang,Bofeng Bai,Shouning Chai,Peng Chen,Fan Dong

Photocatalytic oxidation of nitrogen oxides (NO x ) is a promising technology for environmental protection and green sustainable development. However, its practical application remains limited due to inefficient activation of NO and O 2 , stemming from inadequate structural design of photocatalysts. Herein, we developed a thin-layer two-dimensional (2D) material Bi 2 MoO 6 (BMO) via cetyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (CTAC) addition in synthesis process, which effectively modulates the surface electronic structure, enhance the light absorption and activation of NO and O 2 . This thin-layer Bi 2 MoO 6 nanosheets achieved a NO oxidation efficiency of 45.3 %, which was about 5.5 times that of traditional bulk BMO (8.2 %). Additionally, it demonstrated superior selectivity for NO 2 − /NO 3 − production (86.6 %) compared to bulk BMO (60.5 %) and significantly reduced the formation of toxic NO 2 byproducts (13.4 % vs. 39.5 %). Combining experimental characterizations and density functional theory (DFT) simulations, it demonstrated that the electron-hole pair separation could be promoted and targeted adsorption activation of O 2 can be enhanced to form superoxide radicals (•O 2 − ) and singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) via the effect of surface charge transfer adjustment on the thin-layer structure of Bi 2 MoO 6 , which are key factors affecting the efficiency and selectivity of photocatalytic oxidation of NO. This work provides important insights into the formation of directed ROS and proposes a unique mechanism for selective NO oxidation.
