Ga-based liquid metal (LM) suffers from severe corrosiveness toward chips and heatsink metals, posing a major obstacle to its practical use. Herein, we propose MXene films as barrier layers to mitigate Ga-induced corrosion. Combining first-principles density functional theory and experimental analyses, anti-corrosion performance and reliability were systematically evaluated. MXene nanosheets were found to self-assemble on Cu surfaces via van der Waals interactions, providing an interfacial adhesion force of 17.23 mN. The coatings effectively inhibit Ga corrosion while maintaining high thermal conductivity and long-term stability. This strategy offers a simple and efficient solution to corrosion issues in Ga-based TIM applications.

Integration of efficient value-added electrochemical oxidation with hydrogen evolution reaction presents a promising sustainable route for both hydrogen energy and the electrochemical refinery industry. However, the serious competition of oxygen evolution reaction (OER) with targeted oxidation reactions at high current densities forms a substantial hurdle for industrial application. Here we report a straightforward approach to inhibit OER side reaction by introducing a trace amount of Cu 2+ into the electrolyte for efficient glycerol oxidation reaction (GOR). Such a strategy enables improved Faradaic efficiency of glycerol to the target product formic acid from 62.2% (without Cu 2+ addition) to 99.3% at a high current density of 800 mA cm −2 . The underlying mechanism is that a reversible redox process of Cu 2+ /Cu + fully suppresses the formation of OER-active-phase hydroxy peroxide on the surface of GOR-active Co 3 O 4 catalyst. The current strategy also applies to other important electrochemical oxidation reactions, paving the way for developing efficient non-OER electrochemical oxidation reactions for various chemical conversion processes.

Practical lithium–sulfur batteries are severely hindered by parasitic reactions between lithium metal anodes and soluble lithium polysulfide (LiPS) intermediates. The solvation structure of LiPSs is pivotal in dictating the reaction kinetics. Herein, an encapsulating LiPS electrolyte (EPSE) is proposed to suppress parasitic reactions based on a nano-heterogeneous solvation structure design of LiPSs. In EPSE, with di-isopropyl sulfide (DIPS) as a co-solvent, soluble LiPSs are encapsulated into two concentric solvent shells with different solvating power and reduction stability. Reduction-stable DIPS in the outer solvent shell significantly suppresses the parasitic reactions between encapsulated LiPSs and lithium metal. A 1.2 Ah pouch cell under demanding conditions undergoes 103 cycles in the EPSE. This work provides two crucial criteria for constructing EPSE, that is, poor solvating power and high reduction stability of the solvent in outer solvent shell, and it opens up new frontiers in modulating the solvation structure of LiPSs toward long-cycling lithium–sulfur batteries.

Mutations in cytoplasmic DNA-degrading enzymes can lead to the accumulation of cytoplasmic DNA (cytoDNA), which excessively activates DNA-sensing pathways and exacerbates inflammatory aging. Reducing cytoDNA levels to suppress DNA-sensing mechanisms is therefore critical for treating elderly-onset rheumatoid arthritis (EORA). In this study, we constructed Trex1 mRNA loaded lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) via microfluidics and prepared DNase I loaded polydopamine (PDA) nanoparticles through oxidative polymerization. These two components were co-encapsulated into methacrylated hyaluronic acid (HAMA) microspheres using microfluidic photopolymerization. The LNPs incorporate cationic lipids to facilitate mRNA loading and promote endosomal escape, enabling efficient translation of TREX1 and subsequent recognition and degradation of cytoDNA. Meanwhile, cationic mesoporous polydopamine electrostatically adsorbs and degrades extracellular DNA. The microspheres function as a reservoir for sustained nanoparticle release, enabling synergistic inhibition of DNA sensing pathways. This microsphere based vaccine upregulates TREX1 expression in antigen-presenting cells (APCs) and reduces cytoDNA levels, thereby suppressing overactivation of the cGAS-STING signaling axis and promoting immune tolerance. It also attenuates the differentiation of CD4+ T cells into Th1, Th2, Th17, and Treg subsets. In an aged rat model of rheumatoid arthritis, the vaccine alleviated soft tissue swelling, synovitis, and cartilage and bone damage. By clearing excess cytoDNA and restraining DNA-sensing hyperactivation, this vaccine induces cellular immune tolerance and represents a promising therapeutic strategy for rheumatoid arthritis in the elderly.

Objective: A new type of antibacterial and antioxidant carbon dots has been discovered. Methods: In this study, a facile one-step hydrothermal method was employed to synthesize carbon dots (CDs) using Yongchuan Xiuya as the precursor. Results: The morphology and chemical composition of the synthesized CDs were systematically characterized. The resulting doped carbon quantum dots (CDs) exhibited a spherical shape with an average particle size of 4.17 nm and a lattice spacing of 0.22 nm. The CDs demonstrated exceptional antioxidant and antibacterial properties, showing significant antimicrobial activity against both Gram-positive (S. aureus) and Gram-negative (E. coli) bacteria, with minimum inhibitory concentration values of 0.62 mg/mL and 0.85 mg/mL, respectively. Mechanistic studies revealed that bacterial cell death likely results from strong electrostatic interactions between the negatively charged bacterial surfaces and the positively charged CDs.Conclusion: This work presents a cost-effective and eco-friendly approach to producing carbon dots with dual functionality as both antibacterial and antioxidant agents.

Low temperature tolerant adhesive with high flexibility and adhesion strength is highly desired yet challenging owing to the presence of obvious volume shrinkage, increased brittleness, and reduced transmission of mechanical stress at low temperature. Inspired by the cobweb, we hereby develop a kind of flexible adhesive that can be used at low temperature by in-situ polymerization of disulfide bond-based polymer with polyoxometalate. This low-temperature tolerant adhesive presents high flexibility and adhesion strength, good processability and reversible adhesion ability, a wide tolerable temperature range (i.e., −196 to 50 °C), and a long-lasting adhesion effect (>80 days, −196 °C) that is significantly better than commercial solvent-free adhesives. The adhesive can be processed into high-strength cobwebs, injected into tiny tube models, and adhered onto complicated interfaces. Notably, it enables to be kilogram-scale produced through a solvent-free method, holding promise for potential utilization in fields like repairing artifacts or precision instruments with micro-fractures at low temperature.

As a building block unit, the thermotropic liquid-crystal polyarylate (PAR) nanofibers are expected to offer a more diverse and efficient processing model compared to that of the lyotropic liquid-crystal polymer nanofibers through their thermoplastic process. However, there is currently a lack of literature documenting the preparation method of PAR nanofibers. In this study, we successfully fabricated representative thermotropic liquid-crystal polymer nanofibers, namely, PAR nanofibers, employing a wet ball-milling technique. By investigating the aggregated state structure, microscopic morphology, and surface energy of PAR under different treatment conditions, we elucidated the underlying mechanisms governing the generation and dispersion of PAR nanofibers. The prepared PAR fibers could reach 155.2 nm in diameter and exhibited a notable aspect ratio; the observed lengths of these fibers exceeded 15 μm, with aspect ratios surpassing 96.7. Prior to reaching a temperature of 400 °C in a nitrogen atmosphere, the PAR nanofibers did not display significant weight loss, indicating excellent thermal stability. Furthermore, the PAR nanofiber membranes displayed exceptional mechanical properties, with a tensile strength reaching 139.1 MPa.

A photorechargeable supercapacitor was constructed using vanadium pentoxide (V2O5), reduced graphene oxide hydrogel (rGH), and zinc trifluoromethanesulfonate (Zn(CF3SO3)2) as the photoanode, cathode, and electrolyte, respectively. The phase composition, microstructure, chemical structure, light absorption, and specific surface area of the synthesized products and the electrochemical performance of the rGH/V2O5 supercapacitor were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Raman spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) method, and an electrochemical workstation, respectively. The results show that the device has a specific capacity of 164 F g−1 at 0.5 A g−1 under illumination with 95 mW cm−2 light intensity, which is 20.5% higher than that under normal electrical charging. The supercapacitor has a 75% capacity retention rate and 100% coulombic efficiency, respectively, after 10 000 testing cycles under photoelectric synergistic charging and discharging. The as-constructed rGH/V2O5 photorechargeable supercapacitor exhibits promising application potential in electric vehicles and wearable electronics.

Cells’ ability to sense and respond to mechanical stimuli is fundamental to various biological processes and serves as a crucial biomarker of their physiological and pathological states. Traditional methods for assessing cell mechanical properties, such as atomic force microscopy and micropipette aspiration, are hindered by complex procedures and the risk of cellular damage due to direct contact. Here we introduce a novel non-contact acoustic squeezer that leverages focused interdigital transducers to induce cell deformation through a robust standing surface acoustic wave (SSAW) field. This approach enables the multiparametric quantification of multiple mechanical properties, including elasticity (Young’s modulus, stiffness) and viscosity, without requiring labeling or physical contact, providing a comprehensive understanding of the cell mechanical properties. Our acoustic squeezer is capable of generating a maximum squeezing force of 25.70 pN, inducing a deformability of 1.27 ± 0.017. Combined with thin-shell deformation model, the quantized Young’s modulus of normal red blood cells (RBCs) is approximately 919.04 ± 55.64 Pa. Furthermore, our method demonstrates that cells treated with the anti-cancer drug (doxorubicin) exhibited reduced deformability, increased Young’s modulus and viscosity. Our acoustic squeezer offers a standardized, non-invasive, and highly sensitive approach for characterizing cell mechanical properties, with significant promise for clinical applications in disease diagnosis and drug development.

HIF-1α transcriptional activity is enhanced through SUMOylation mediated by CBX4. Despite the recognized importance of the CBX4-HIF-1α axis, the molecular mechanisms governing its regulation remain largely unclear. In this study, phenotypic screening of a 101,254-compound library followed by structural optimization led to the identification of XZA-1 , a small molecule capable of disrupting CBX4-mediated HIF-1α transcriptional activation. Mechanistic investigations revealed that XZA-1 activates HADH, a key enzyme in fatty acid β-oxidation, resulting in increased intracellular levels of acetoacetyl-CoA. This metabolite promotes acetoacetylation of CBX4 at lysine 106, thereby reducing its SUMO E3 ligase activity. In a CBX4-overexpressing xenograft model, XZA-1 demonstrated antitumor effects by enhancing CBX4 K106 acetoacetylation. Additionally, elevated levels of CBX4 K106 acetoacetylation were observed in clinical HCC tissues from patients with better overall survival. These findings suggest that acetoacetyl-CoA functions as a potential antitumor metabolite and establish a novel pharmacological approach for modulating HIF-1α transcriptional activity in cancer.

A highly sensitive method for quantification of phytosterols based on HPLC has been developed by derivatization with the benzoyl chromophore. Introduction of the chromophore, benzoyl group, to phytosterols via simple and inexpensive derivatization greatly improved the UV response at 254 nm. Quantification of phytosterols was effectively performed by HPLC analysis with methyl benzoate as the internal standard after derivatization. This new method demonstrated outstanding yield of recovery (>95%) and excellent sensitivity (ng level) and was applicable for sterols from either plant or animal sources. This method is generally useful in phytosterol studies.

Folic acid (FA) is an essential vitamin. The development of rapid, simple and on-site detecting method on FA is of great importance to human's health and industrial production. In this work, a bis-tetraarylimidazole macrocycle ( BTM ) was designed and synthesized as an effective fluorescent sensor for FA. The weak purple fluorescence of BTM was transferred to strong blue fluorescence after sensing FA with high sensing selectivity among 31 kinds of biomolecules and 16 kinds of ions. The limit of detection was as low as 1.06 × 10 −7 M, which was the competitive one among the reported fluorescence sensors. The sensing mechanism was deduced that FA was included in the cavity of BTM based on the multiple hydrogen-bonding actions and aromatic π-π stacking interaction. The intermolecular rotating restriction and the interruption of Dexter electron transfer after binding FA were responsible for the fluorescence enhancement. This sensing ability of BTM for FA was applied on test paper, seal experiment and stimulated samples, suggesting the good qualitative and quantitative detecting ability for FA with rapid, simple and on-site procedure in real environment.
