In this study, an electrochemical system for methane conversion was developed, employing Ni- and Ce-doped LaCoO3perovskite as the anode catalyst in an Na2CO3electrolyte. Structural characterization revealed that the La1−yCeyCo1−xNixO3(x = 0–0.5, y = 0–0.12) synthesized by the sol–gel method maintains the perovskite structure, but is rich in oxygen vacancies. Electrochemical studies revealed that the performance of methane activation is related to the presence of Ni(III) in the catalyst, and reactive oxygen species (•OH and HOO−) are provided through water oxidation reactions (WOR) in the Na2CO3electrolyte. The electrocatalytic performance of the synthesized La0.92Ce0.08Co0.5Ni0.5O3during methane conversion was verified in an electrolysis cell, and ethanol and acetic acid were identified as the methane conversion oxygenates. Under ambient conditions, the formation rate of ethanol reached 577.0 μmol gcat−1h−1at 0.90 V (vs. Ag/AgCl) in 0.5 mol L−1Na2CO3. The catalyst was found to retain structural integrity and sustain catalytic activity over multiple reaction cycles.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) possess highly tunable structures, making them promising heterogeneous catalysts for efficient CO 2 conversion reactions. In this work, cerium-modified zirconium-based metal-organic frameworks (ZrCe-UiO-66) were engineered and post-synthetically functionalized with dicationic ionic liquid moieties, enabling the simultaneous introduction of strong Lewis acidic sites and nucleophilic ionic liquid units without the need for external co-catalysts. The resulting ZrCe 0.5 -UiO-66-DIL(n-PyRIm) ( n = 2, 3, 4; R = Et, Pr, Bu, Pe) functionalized MOFs were prepared via a modular grafting approach and exhibited remarkable catalytic performance. Among them, ZrCe 0.5 -UiO-66-DIL(2-PyBuIm) converted epichlorohydrin into the corresponding cyclic carbonate with 96% yield and 98% selectivity under solvent-free conditions at 110 °C and a CO 2 pressure of 0.1 MPa. This outstanding activity arises from a cooperative activation mechanism, in which the mixed Zr 4+ /Ce 4+ activate the epoxide substrate through Lewis acid coordination with the epoxide oxygen, thereby facilitating C O bond activation, while the bromide anions embedded in the ionic liquid moieties promote nucleophilic ring opening. In addition to high catalytic efficiency, the MOF hybrids demonstrated excellent recyclability and broad substrate tolerance. Combined CO 2 adsorption measurements and in situ infrared spectroscopy further revealed key surface intermediates, enabling a plausible mechanistic pathway for the cycloaddition process to be proposed.

BA@Ce-MOF exhibits SOD/CAT-like enzyme activities and antioxidant effects. • In situ formation of hydrogel via thiol-ene photo-click chemistry reaction. • The ROS-responsive oxidation of thioether bonds in the hydrogel network accelerates drug release. • Promotes osteogenesis, angiogenesis, and M2 macrophage polarization in vivo. The hyperglycemic and reactive oxygen species (ROS)-rich microenvironment in diabetes readily incites inflammation, and the persistent inflammation exacerbates bone resorption, severely hindering the repair of diabetic alveolar bone defects. The alendronate used in clinical practice can inhibit bone resorption but lacks osteoinductive activity and cannot modulate the inflammatory milieu; traditional Chinese medicine monomers possess anti-inflammatory potential but are limited by low bioavailability. Herein, we developed a multifunctional nanocomposite hydrogel via a hierarchical integration strategy using carbon dots and Ce-MOF nanozymes to promote diabetic alveolar bone repair. In this system, the Ce-MOF, exhibiting superoxide dismutase (SOD)-and catalase (CAT)-like activities, scavenges ROS and enables the sustained release of carbon dots composed of alendronate and baicalin, achieving synergistic antioxidant and antibacterial effects. The hydrogel, formed from vinyl-group-grafted chitosan and thiolated sodium alginate via rapid in situ photoclick chemistry, adapts to irregular defect shapes; the thioether bonds formed in its crosslinked structure enable ROS-triggered acceleration of BA@Ce-MOF nanoparticle release. In vitro, the BA@Ce@CSSA hydrogel demonstrated excellent biocompatibility. Its SOD/CAT activities and the antioxidant function of the monomer synergistically eliminated ROS and induced macrophage M2 polarization for immunomodulation. Concurrently, it enhanced osteogenic differentiation by upregulating RUNX2 and OPN expression. In vivo, Micro-CT and histomorphometric analyses confirmed that BA@Ce@CSSA significantly accelerated and improved the quality of bone regeneration. In summary, this study presents a hierarchically designed therapeutic strategy that effectively promotes bone regeneration by integrating antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, pro-angiogenic, and pro-osteogenic functions within a ROS-responsive hydrogel system, offering a promising approach for treating alveolar bone defects under diabetic conditions.

Ammonia decomposition is an attractive route for carbon-free hydrogen production, yet Ni-based catalysts are limited by insufficient activity and severe sintering at high temperatures. Herein, Ni supported on Ce-induced perovskites were employed in ammonia decomposition. Notably, we found that site-specific Ce occupation in the support governs the defect chemistry, Ni stabilization, and catalytic performance by constructing LaAlO 3 –Ce-based supports with distinct Ce locations. When Ce is present as a separate CeO 2 phase, a LaAlO 3 -CeO 2 composite is formed, in which interfacial CeO 2 domains moderately improve Ni dispersion and suppress sintering via moderate anchoring. In contrast, A-site incorporation of Ce into the LaAlO 3 lattice induces pronounced lattice distortion and abundant oxygen vacancies, significantly enhancing support basicity and interfacial electron donation. These defect-rich environments stabilize electron-enriched Ni species, strengthen metal-support interactions, and facilitate the recombination and desorption of surface N species, thereby accelerating N* recombination during ammonia decomposition. Consequently, the Ni/LaCeAlO 3 achieves over 90% NH 3 conversion at 600 ℃ with a hydrogen production rate of 524 mmol‧g Ni −1 ‧min −1 , outperforming Ni/LaAlO 3 and Ni/LaAlO 3 -CeO 2 while maintaining excellent stability over 60 h. Kinetic analysis, together with NH 3 -TPSR and in situ DRIFTS, suggests a stepwise dehydrogenation pathway with facilitated H removal and accelerated N 2 formation, directly associated with Ce-induced oxygen vacancies and defect-mediated electronic modulation. This work demonstrates that A-site-specific Ce incorporation in perovskite oxides offers a decisive advantage over conventional composite supports, providing an effective strategy for defect engineering and the development of active and durable non-noble metal catalysts for ammonia-to-hydrogen conversion.

Dual-mode anti-counterfeiting materials with photochromic and dynamic luminescent properties can improve the security of anti-counterfeiting and encryption. This study aimed to synthesize CaAl 12 O 19 :Eu, Ce phosphors with photochromic and dynamic photoluminescent properties. With the extension of 254-nm UV radiation time, the surface of the CaAl 12 O 19 :Eu, Ce phosphors changed in color from white to brownish yellow and was bleached by heating at 520 °C for 5 min, exhibiting excellent fatigue resistance and thermal stability. After co-doping Eu and Ce in CaAl 12 O 19 , the photochromic performance significantly improved, with the ΔR value increasing by 2.6- and 1.8-fold that of the CaAl 12 O 19 :1.0%Eu and CaAl 12 O 19 :1.0%Ce samples, respectively. After 254-nm UV irradiation, the CaAl 12 O 19 :Eu, Ce samples showed time-dependent dynamic luminescence characteristics, changing in color from orange-red to magenta. The mechanisms responsible for the photochromic and dynamic luminescence properties were further investigated. Overall, owing to their photochromism and dynamic photoluminescence, the CaAl 12 O 19 :Eu, Ce/polydimethylsiloxane composites could be applied in advanced anti-counterfeiting and information encryption with higher security in both the bright and dark fields.

The PVDF-based polymer electrolyte has the disadvantages of low ionic conductivity and low Li + migration number at room temperature, which hinders its application in lithium-ion batteries. Herein, polymer composite electrolytes were constructed utilizing three polymorphic Ce-MOFs as functional fillers to enhance its performance. The homogeneously dispersed Ce-MOF fillers restricted the reorganization of PVDF-HFP chains, thereby led to the change in crystallization and aggregation state of the polymer. Moreover, their porous structure and active sites also promoted the Lewis acid–base interactions with the polymer and TFSI − , promoting ion dissociation. Temperature-induced phase variation produced distinct porous crystalline structures formed the tetragonal-phase MOF-76-Ce exhibiting excellent properties with a room-temperature ionic conductivity of 7.89×10⁻ 4 S cm⁻ 1 and a Li + transference number of 0.79. The full cell assembled with this electrolyte and high-energy-density polyanionic LiMn 0.6 Fe 0.4 PO 4 cathodes demonstrated good cycling stability. It could reach discharge capacity of 147 mAh g⁻ 1 at 0.2 C and a capacity retention of 91% after 200 cycles at 0.5 C under a high cutoff voltage of 4.5 V. This work offers an effective filler strategy for developing high-performance quasi-solid-state polymer electrolytes and highlights the crucial role of metal–organic framework topology in advancing safe and durable lithium metal batteries. The feasibility of enhancing the electrocatalytic performance of sulfides is demonstrated through element doping and vacancy engineering. However, the investigation on the reaction mechanisms of catalyst doping and defects related to oxygen evolution reaction (OER) still faces significant challenges. In this work, a Ce-doped NiS 2 supported on carbon cloth (Ce-NiS 2 @CC) with abundant sulfur vacancy defects was successfully developed through a sequential two-step hydrothermal and high-temperature vulcanization strategy. The results demonstrate that the obtained Ce-NiS 2 @CC catalyst exhibits excellent electrochemical performance for both OER and urea oxidation reaction (UOR). It requires only 1.40 and 1.28 V to achieve a current density of 10 mA/cm 2 for OER and UOR, respectively. Furthermore, the Tafel slopes observed for OER and UOR are noteworthy at 40.2 and 58.3 mV/dec, respectively, suggesting enhanced kinetics and superior catalytic performance. Additionally, the stability tests conducted on the catalyst reveal that the Ce-NiS 2 @CC possesses exceptional electrochemical long-term stability, making it a highly reliable and durable option for various applications. Density functional theory calculations and in situ Raman results demonstrate that Ce doping and sulfur vacancy synergistically promote surface reconstruction to form Ni Ⅲ –O species, modulate the local charge distribution near the Ni site, thereby facilitating the adsorption and activation of water molecules, and consequently accelerating the kinetics of OER. This study systematically investigated the impact of metal doping and vacancy defects on electrocatalytic performance, offering insights into electronic structure regulation and performance optimization for efficient electrocatalysts.

Single-atom catalysts (SACs) catalysts have unique electronic properties and geometric structures, offering maximum atom-utilization efficiency. Noble metal-free SACs anchored within metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) enable precise tuning of electronic structures and significantly enhance catalytic activity beyond conventional porous materials. Herein, we synthesized the synthesis of Cu(I)/Ce-MOF-808-EA by anchoring atomically dispersed Cu(II) species onto the open Ce 6 nodes of the Ce-MOF-808 framework, followed by in situ reduction to Cu(I) via ethanol treatment and thermal activation processes. The atomic dispersion and valence transformation of Cu sites on Ce-MOF-808 were confirmed by X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS), high-angle annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy (HAADF-STEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The resulting Cu(I)/Ce-MOF-808-EA exhibited outstanding catalytic performance for the hydrogenation of Dicyclopentadiene (DCPD), achieving 100 % conversion, 91.54 % selectivity toward Dihydrodicyclopentadiene (DHDCPD), and 8.45 % selectivity toward Tetrahydrodicyclopentadiene (THDCPD) at 100 °C, 2 MPa. Notably, Cu(I)/Ce-MOF-808-EA outperformed other transition metal catalysts (Co/Ce-MOF-808-EA, Ni/Ce-MOF-808-EA and Zn/Ce-MOF-808-EA). For the first time, Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations, combined with experimental investigations, revealed a low-energy reaction pathway for DCPD hydrogenation, wherein Cu(I) sites, in cooperation with adjacent oxygen atoms, act as bi-active centers to heterolytically cleave H 2 into proton and hydride species (*H δ+ -H δ- ) for subsequent hydrogenation. This study underscores the potential of MOFs as versatile platforms for engineering single-atom catalysts with enhanced catalytic properties.

In this study, a composite ceramic material combining cerium-doped bioactive glass (CeBG) and barium titanate (BaTiO₃) was developed to harness the synergistic effects of antioxidant properties and piezoelectric responsiveness, thereby enhancing the repair of load-bearing bone defects. CeBG-BaTiO₃ composites with varying CeBG doping concentrations (5 % and 15 %) were fabricated via high-temperature sintering. The ceramics were studied by piezoelectric constants (d 33 ), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and Vichers hardness. In vitro simulation of catalase activity, cytocompatibility, hemocompatibility assay and DPPH radical scavenging assay were selected for biocompatibility and antioxidant capacity. 15 % CeBG-BaTiO₃ ceramic with d 33 of 1.6 pC/N has better densification, crystallinity and mechanical property. CeBG-BaTiO 3 ceramics have favorable biological performance and exhibit increased antioxidant properties with more CeBG.

The precise embedding of metal species within specific sites of zeolite frameworks and their unique microenvironments exert fascinating influences on catalytic performance. Herein, we report the rational design of a highly efficient Co-Cu@CTS-1 catalyst through the strategic incorporation of Co, Cu, and Ce into TS-1 zeolite, where Ce is doped at silicon atomic sites while Co and Cu are encapsulated within the zeolite cages. Mechanistic investigations reveal that the synergistic interplay among Co, Cu, and Ce is pivotal for catalytic activity: Co facilitates molecular oxygen activation to generate reactive oxygen species (O⁻), while Ce(III) enhances oxygen vacancy concentration, significantly boosting styrene conversion. Moreover, the distinctive electronic interaction between Ce and Cu markedly improves the selectivity toward styrene oxide. The optimized Co-Cu@CTS-1 catalyst exhibits exceptional performance in the aerobic epoxidation of styrene, achieving a remarkable conversion of 78.11% with 87.31% epoxide selectivity under mild conditions (80 °C, 2 h). Furthermore, the catalyst demonstrates outstanding stability, retaining 68.21% conversion even after 20 reaction cycles, underscoring its superior resistance to metal sintering and long-term durability. This work provides valuable insights into the rational design of multifunctional zeolite catalysts through precise metal positioning and microenvironment modulation. Graphical

Calcium looping represents a high-temperature method designed to capture CO 2 , making it appropriate for CO 2 capture from flue gases post-combustion in power plants after combustion or for integration with fuel transformation techniques in pre-combustion CO 2 sequestration systems. This method employs solid sorbents of CaO sourced from natural limestone, leveraging the chemical interaction of CaO with CO 2 , which ultimately results in the formation of CaCO 3 , thereby facilitating effective CO 2 capture. In this research, multiple metal-incorporated CaO-based sorbents were produced through the sol–gel method. Notably, the CaO-based sorbent with a Ca/Ce doping ratio of 15 demonstrates exceptional CO 2 capture ability and stability, maintaining 13.20 mmol/g of CO 2 adsorption capacity after 20 carbonation/calcination cycles. Various characterization techniques, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), N 2 physisorption, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-angle annular dark field scanning transmission electron microscopy/energy dispersive spectroscopy (HAADF-STEM/EDS), temperature-programmed-desorption with CO 2 (CO 2 -TPD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) are employed to demonstrate that the presence of nanoscale CeO 2 significantly enhanced the diffusion of CO 2 during the adsorption process.

Developing iron-free transition-metal based catalysts to overcome ion-leaching degradation is still a critical challenge due to their inherent low activity and poor electron transfer characteristics for oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Herein, an iron-free catalytic material integrating amorphous Ce-doped NiOOH with Ni nanocrystals was synthesized via a one-step electrodeposition method, achieving scalable fabrication of a uniform anode over 600 cm 2 . It shows remarkably low overpotentials of 190 mV and 332 mV to achieve 10 and 1000 mA cm −2 in 1 M KOH, respectively. Moreover, it maintains 98.7 % activity retention after 1000 h of continuous operation at 1000 mA cm −2 . XPS, XANES, in-situ Raman spectroscopy and density functional theory (DFT) calculations demonstrate that Ni nanocrystals significantly enhance the interfacial and bulk charge transport in NiOOH, while Ce doping substantially promotes both the pre-oxidation process and OER kinetics. This work provides insights for designing iron-free catalytic materials with high alkaline OER performance.
