The selection of elements, tune of compounds types and modification of structure are important ways to improve OER activity of high-entropy alloys. The reconstruction behavior of film electrodes during OER process revealed that Mo element has a strong promoting effect on the reconstruction of FeCoNi-based films. It is shown by first-principles that electron-deficient region could be formed near Mo, and electron-rich region could be formed near surrounding elements of Mo. Charge transfer may be the reason that Mo promotes reconstruction of high-entropy alloys. Compared with FeCoNiCr film electrode, FeCoNiCrMo film electrode, the 2p 3/2 binding energy peaks of Fe/Co/Ni in which are shifted forward, has more oxygen-containing species and oxygen vacancies. The study also revealed the existence of lattice oxygen mechanism during OER process. The deposition thickness of alloy film has a linear relationship with sputtering time and deposition rate of FeCoNiCrMo. There is an optimal deposition thickness of FeCoNiCrMo film electrode for OER. FeCoNiCrMo film electrodes have the most excellent OER performance: the overpotential is 268 mV, and the Tafel slope is 57.6 mVdec −1 .

Recently, Fe-based materials have been widely used to activate persulfate (PMS) for the degradation of organic pollutants. However, the sluggish Fe(III)/Fe(II) cycle often results in catalyst deactivation. In this work, we modified iron oxide on carbon nitride with molybdenum (FeMo/CN), which was characterized by the interfacial sites of Fe0/Fe2(MoO4)3 and Fe2O3/Fe2(MoO4)3. Systematic investigations indicate that the interfacial sites in the FeMo/CN material promote the cycling efficiency of Fe(III)/Fe(II). Also, the strong interaction between FeMo/CN and PMS drives the transformation of PMS into O2•–, which subsequently undergoes conversion to form 1O2 as the main reactive oxygen species. 50 mg·L–1 Rhodamine B (RhB) can be almost completely removed within 20 min in the FeMo/CN + PMS system. The FeMo/CN catalyst suppresses the majority of catalysts documented in previous studies, showing an impressive specific rate constant value of 10.78 L2·min–1·g–2. Additionally, the FeMo/CN + PMS system demonstrates remarkable wide-ranging applicability, excellent environmental tolerance, and good stability. It has the capacity to continuously treat 51.84 L of simulated organic pollutants (RhB solution) while consistently maintaining a degradation rate of over 99%. This work highlights the practicality of interface engineering in Fe-based materials and inspires the rational design of materials for sustainable environmental remediation.

TiNb 2 O 7 (TNO) is a promising anode for lithium-ion batteries owing to its high theoretical capacity, minimal volume expansion, and effective suppression of lithium dendrite formation. Nonetheless, the low electrical conductivity of TNO presents a barrier to practical application. Thus, a Mo 6+ doping strategy was utilized to address the conductivity issue, and TNO- x Mo ( x = 0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20) anodes were prepared by a solid-state method. The incorporation of Mo 6+ ions result in a charge redistribution, which can elevate electronic conductivity and accelerate ion diffusion. What’s more, by precisely controlling the Mo 6+ ion concentration can regulate the morphologies of the TNO, enabling it to expose more fast-ion conducting (020) facets. The synergistic effect of the above two factors significantly enhances the conductivity and electrochemical properties of the TNO anode. As a result, the optimal TNO-0.05Mo with 2D lamellar structure exhibits a high discharge capacity of 347.6 mAh g −1 at 0.1C, superior rate performance, and an excellent cycle lifespan, with retention of 78% after 1500 cycles at 1.5C/1.5C. Meanwhile, the solid-state battery with TNO-0.05Mo as anode also displays improved rate and cycle performance than the liquid-state battery, indicating the great application potential for the next-generation energy storage devices.

The Mo 2 C@CNTs/Cu-20wt.%Mo composite materials with outstanding mechanical properties and electrical conductivity were prepared via the combination of mechanical wet-mixing, ball-milling and spark plasma sintering technology. By regulating the morphology and content of Mo 2 C decorated on CNTs, the Mo 2 C nanoparticles are anchored on CNTs and well bonded with the matrix, resulting the good interfacial bonding in the composite material. The Cu-20wt.%Mo composite material reinforced by 0.2wt.%Mo 2 C@CNTs exhibits a yield strength of 342.19 MPa and an ultimate tensile strength of 390.37 MPa, which are respectively increased by 23.13 % and 20.34 % as compared to the Cu-20wt.%Mo. Besides, the electrical conductivity of the 0.2wt.%Mo 2 C@CNTs/Cu-20wt.%Mo composite material is also improved by 6.89 %. Furthermore, the strengthening effect of Mo 2 C@CNTs/Cu-20wt.%Mo composite material can be attributed to the contribution of Mo 2 C nanoparticles, which not only enhance the CNTs load transfer strengthening but also promote the dislocation strengthening and Orowan strengthening.

Spent hydrodesulfurization catalysts contain more than 10 ∼ 25 wt% V, Mo and Co, which are not only hazardous materials, but also can be considered as valuable secondary resources. The complete separation of these complex critical metals by solvent extraction still needs to be improved. Here, a selective extraction route for the separation of V/Mo/Co is proposed based on the weak interaction differences between extractants and metal, which is realized by theoretical calculation and experimental verification. This process does not require pretreatment of N1923 and Cyanex272 (C272), thus reduced the consume of acid and base as well as generation of waste water. With the preliminary results of V/Mo, Co/Mo, and V/Co separation, the weak interaction between extractants and metal molecules was revealed by quantum chemical calculations quantitatively. The molecular charge distribution, surface electrostatic potential distribution (ESP) and the average local ionization energy (ALIE) shows the priority reactivity of the metal molecules as: H 6 V 10 O 28 > H 2 Mo 4 O 13 > H 4 V 4 O 12 > H 3 VO 4 > H 2 MoO 4 . The independent gradient model based on Hirshfeld partition (IGMH) show differences in the weak interaction forces as: N1923-V>C272-Mo > C272-V>N1923-Mo > C272-Co. The selective separation process of V/Mo/Co was designed with the guide of above results. The combined recovery of the three metals V, Mo and Co amounted to 83.88 %, 87.08 %, and 99.01 %, respectively. The whole route reduces 3.92 t sulfuric acid and 7.83 t sodium hydroxide per solid, and reduces 1.99 t carbon emissions compared to the conventional route.

Although selective oxidation of benzene to phenol (SOBP) by H2O2 is an important chemical process, overoxidation of benzene by the produced nonselective •OH during the activation of H2O2 inevitably reduces the oxidation selectivity. We, therefore, attempt to mediate the oxidation selectively by using electrophilic KHCO3 in the oxidation system. In this study, Mo–Cu/NC has been successfully synthesized via ball-milling bimetallic Mo–Cu and N-doped carbon, which exhibits high reactivity in SOBP by H2O2 and KHCO3 with a desirable phenol yield of 25.1% and selectivity of 100%. A series of characterizations and DFT calculations reveal that the reaction between H2O2 and KHCO3 produces HCO4–, which is then moderately activated on Mo1Cu2/NC via the nonradical pathway with the formation of Mo-(η2-O2) peroxo. Meanwhile, Ov at Mo1Cu2/NC facilitates the adsorption of benzene, which is then selectively oxidized by Mo-(η2-O2) peroxo to phenol via the oxygen atom transfer pathway. This study provides new insights on the importance of Mo-(η2-O2) peroxo mediated by H2O2–KHCO3 in selective oxidation of aromatic C–H bond via the nonradical pathway.

Rare earth oxide (CeO₂/Y₂O₃) reinforced AlCrFeNiCu high-entropy alloy coatings with a Mo interlayer (designated as Mo/CeO₂-AlCrFeNiCu and Mo/Y₂O₃-AlCrFeNiCu) were successfully deposited onto a Zr-4 substrate via high-speed laser cladding. The microstructural characteristics and properties of the composite coatings were comprehensively investigated. The results demonstrate that the Mo interlayer alleviates the thermal mismatch between the substrate and the HEA coatings and, to a certain degree, counteracts the grain refinement effect induced by the rare earth oxides. Overall, it plays a critical role in enhancing interfacial structural stability, mitigating thermal stress, and improving overall coating performance. It effectively optimizes the coating-substrate bonding integrity, reduces susceptibility to high-temperature fretting fatigue and plastic deformation, and significantly lowers the specific wear rate. Furthermore, the Mo interlayer enhances the compactness and continuity of the interface, suppresses the formation of corrosive pathways, and promotes the formation of a thicker, more stable passive film on the coating surface.

The present study investigated a novel bimetallic Pt-Mo catalyst encapsulated within Silicalite-1 zeolite for propane dehydrogenation (PDH). The catalyst was synthesized via in situ hydrothermal crystallization, followed by direct high-temperature H 2 reduction without conventional calcination, leading to uniform encapsulation of Pt nanoparticles within the zeolite framework and simultaneous removal of the template and organic ligands. PDH performance was evaluated in a continuous-flow fixed-bed microreactor. Comprehensive characterizations (XPS, CO-DRIFTS, NH 3 -TPD, Raman, etc.) reveal that Mo incorporation in 0.4Pt@S-1 catalyst significantly enhances propane conversion while maintaining high propylene selectivity. Moreover, the bimetallic 0.4PtXMo@S-1 catalyst with 0.1 % Mo doping achieved an outstanding performance at 550 °C and a WHSV of 5.49 h −1 (propane conversion: 43 %, propylene selectivity: 97 %, propylene formation rate: 16.27 mol C3H6 ·g Pt -1 ·h −1 ). The prepared catalyst possessed favorable stability and regeneration performance, showing a deactivation rate of only 0.001454 h −1 after four reaction-regeneration cycles. This enhancement is attributed to synergistic effects arising from Mo incorporation, which promotes Pt nanoparticle dispersion, modulates Brønsted /Lewis acidity, and facilitates interfacial electron transfer between Pt and Mo species. These findings highlight the role of Pt-Mo interactions within zeolite frameworks, providing new insights for designing efficient and stable PDH catalysts.

Thyroid cancer treatment and bacterial infection management have long been challenging due to the limited effectiveness and side effects of conventional therapies. Here, we introduce molybdenum nitride (Mo₂N) nanomaterials as an innovative platform for dual-functional photothermal therapy, combining anti-tumor and antibacterial treatments. Mo₂N nanoparticles with an average diameter of ~ 2.45 nm were synthesized and systematically characterized. Upon near-infrared (NIR) laser exposure, Mo₂N demonstrated efficient photothermal conversion (efficiency ≈ 31.8%), leading to significant temperature elevation. In vitro studies confirmed a selective cytotoxic effect, with Mo₂N-mediated PTT inducing significant death in thyroid cancer cells while having a minimal impact on normal endothelial cells. In vivo , this platform led to significant tumor growth inhibition and accelerated healing of MRSA-infected wounds. Additionally, Mo₂N exhibited substantial antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus ( MRSA ) under NIR irradiation, showcasing its effectiveness in combating bacterial infections. The combined anti-tumor and antibacterial actions of Mo₂N suggest a promising strategy for dual-functional photothermal therapy, where the photothermal effect not only inhibits tumor growth but also effectively eliminates bacterial infections during treatment. These findings indicate that Mo₂N-based photothermal therapy can serve as a versatile, multi-functional therapeutic tool, presenting a significant advancement in both oncology and infectious disease treatment. Graphical Graphical Headlights. Schematic illustration of the synthesis and applications of Mo₂N nanomaterials for antibacterial and anti-cancer therapy. (i) Material Synthesis: Mo₂N nanomaterials were synthesized by reacting aniline with HCl and GO, followed by stirring, centrifugation, addition of ammonium molybdate tetrahydrate, freeze-drying, and finally thermal treatment in a tubular furnace. (ii) Antibacterial and Wound Healing: Under 808 nm NIR irradiation, the Mo₂N nanomaterials accelerate wound healing by eliminating MRSA, reducing inflammation, and promoting tissue regeneration. (iii) Antineoplastic Activity: When exposed to NIR light, the nanomaterials induce selective cell death in thyroid cancer cells while showing minimal toxicity to normal cells, as further validated in an in vivo mouse model.

Despite significant advances in lignin depolymerization studies, the specific combination of Mo and W in bimetallic catalysts and their impact on hydrogen activation and Lewis acidity in lignin conversion remains poorly understood, particularly in terms of the synergistic effects that enhance efficiency and selectivity. A bimetallic Mo x W y /H-Beta catalyst was synthesized via incipient wetness impregnation with the catalyst characterized using XPS, H 2 -TPR, NH 3 -TPD, and other methods. The catalyst demonstrated high activity for selective kraft lignin depolymerization due to the synergy between Lewis acid sites, hydrogen activation sites, and the Mo-W interaction on the support. The proximity of metal and acid sites facilitated effective diffusion of intermediates, leading to enhanced synergy and the eventual cleavage of etheric C–O bonds. A Liquid fuel (LF) yield of 84.3 % and 71.6 % kraft lignin conversion at 300 °C without external hydrogen. The higher heating value (HHV) increased from 25.45 MJ/kg in the original kraft lignin feed to 35.9 MJ/kg in the LF. XPS analysis showed a predominant amount of Mo 6+ on the fresh catalyst surface, with complete conversion to lower oxidation states during the reaction. This study provides insights into the structure–activity relationships of Mo-based bimetallic catalysts, highlighting the importance of hydrogen activation sites and acidic sites in kraft lignin depolymerization.

The nonisothermal crystallization kinetics of poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) in PVDF/tributyl citrate (TBC) blends having undergone thermally induced phase separation were investigated through differential scanning calorimetry measurements. Ozawa theory, Mo's method and Kissinger model were used to analyze the kinetics of the nonisothermal crystallization process. The Ozawa theory failed to describe the crystallization behavior of PVDF in the PVDF/TBC blends, whereas the Mo model was able to describe the nonisothermal crystallization process fairly well. The crystallization activation energy was determined by the Kissinger method, and was in the range of 90–165 kJ/mol.
