Background: In the research of the pharmacological activity of modern Chinese medicine, a large number of traditional Chinese medicines show anti-inflammatory activity. Asparagi radix is one of the anti-inflammatory drugs. With the deepening of people's research on Asparagi radix, its anti-inflammatory pharmacological effects have been gradually explored, but its specific anti-inflammatory active ingredients are still unclear. Therefore, it is necessary to screen and identify its specific anti-inflammatory active ingredients from Asparagi radix. At present, COX-2 is an important target for the treatment of chronic inflammation, and many drugs targeting this target have been marketed. However, some drugs have serious side effects, so it is very meaningful to study new COX-2 inhibitors. Methods: In this experiment, the fractions of different time periods are separated by high performance liquid chromatography-separation-trapping system (HPLC-CAD-FC). Then, ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight/mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF/MS) and biological activity analysis techniques are used to identify the chemical composition and in vitro anti-inflammatory activity of each fraction. Finally, the data is integrated to screen out the substances with potential anti-inflammatory activity in Asparagi radix. Results: The results showed that the method established in this experiment can successfully isolate the active components of Asparagi radix, and four saponins with potential anti-inflammatory activity are identified. Conclusion: In summary, the analysis method established in this study can quickly and effectively screen out its anti-inflammatory active substances, and its potential anti-inflammatory active ingredients are mainly steroidal saponins.

In this study, S -methyl derivatives of dithiocarbamates (DTCs) were shown to significantly enhance chemiluminescence (CL) between Ce(IV) and efficient and environmentally friendly nitrogen-doped carbon dots (NCDs). Based on the elucidation of the CL mechanisms, an innovative approach involving high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with N-CDs and CL detection (HPLC-CDCL) was proposed. The developed method was successfully applied to the highly sensitive detection of three DTC fungicides (dimethyl dithiocarbamate, ethylene bisdithiocarbamate, and propylene bisdithiocarbamate) in tea. The recovery of the established method ranged 70.51–116.45%, with relative standard deviations (RSD) of <9.40%. The limit of detection (S/N = 3 ) was as low as 0.19 μg/L (as CS 2 ), which is superior to the previous methods and comparable to UPLC-tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS). Moreover, the proposed approach does not require solid-phase extraction and offers excellent selectivity. This study proposes a novel method for the detection of DTCs in the food safety and environmental fields.

Background Biogenic amines (BAs) are low molecular weight nitrogenous compounds present in various foods. While physiologically essential in trace amounts, elevated concentrations of BAs pose health risks, including serving as precursors to carcinogens. In fermented foods such as kumiss—a traditional fermented horse milk—the quantitative assessment of BAs is critical due to their health implications. However, the wide range of log P and p Ka values among BAs presents significant challenges for their simultaneous extraction and accurate analysis. Result This study introduces a novel approach for the simultaneous extraction of eight BAs in kumiss using dummy molecularly imprinted polymer (DMIP) coated fibers. The DMIP was synthesized using diethylamine dansyl chloride as a derivatized template, enabling selective recognition of eight BA derivatives. The fabricated coated fibers, which are reusable and cost-effective, were integrated into an array device for high-throughput solid-phase microextraction (SPME), achieving an average extraction time of less than 2 min per sample. The SPME method demonstrated high recoveries (70.06–110.92 %) when coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis. Linear calibration curves were established between the peak area and the concentration of BAs over the range of 0.2–10 mg L −1 , with high regression coefficients (>0.99) and low detection limits (0.025–0.123 mg L −1 ). The DMIP coated fiber array extraction device provided highly selective and efficient separation of BA derivatives from complex matrices, as successfully demonstrated using kumiss samples. Significance and novelty This study presents a novel dummy molecular imprinting strategy for the fabrication of DMIP coated fiber array for SPME, addressing the limitations of traditional methods in the simultaneous recognition of structurally diverse BAs. This approach significantly enhances the efficiency and selectivity of BA analysis, which is essential for the quality control of fermented foods.

Dietary selenium deficiency is recognized as a global problem. Pork is the most widely consumed meat throughout the world and an important source of selenium for humans. In this study, a reliable approach was developed for analyzing selenium and its speciation in the muscles of pigs after different selenium treatments. The selenium source deposition efficiency was ranked as: selenomethionine > methylselenocysteine > selenite, and the muscle selenium content had a dose effect with selenomethionine supplementation. In total, four species of selenium were detected in the muscles of pigs and the distributions of these selenium species were greatly affected by the dietary selenium supplementation forms and levels. Selenomethionine (>70% of total selenium) and selenocystine (>11%) were the major selenium species, followed by methylselenocysteine and selenourea. Therefore, selenium-enriched pork produced from selenomethionine is a good source for improving human dietary selenium intake.

The increasing presence of pyrethroid pesticides (PYs) in agricultural products necessitates advanced analytical methods for food safety monitoring. This study introduces a novel metal–organic framework–covalent organic framework (MOF–COF) hybrid adsorbent, NH₂–MIL–101(Fe)@TpBD, for the rapid extraction of PYs from eggplants via pH/salt–independent dispersive solid–phase extraction (DSPE) coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The optimized method achieved efficient extraction of four PYs (permethrin, cyfluthrin, esfenvalerate, and bifenthrin) within 4 min, using 20 mg of adsorbent and 1.5 mL of acetonitrile. The method demonstrated excellent linearity (0.12–8.00 mg·kg −1 ), high sensitivity (LODs: 0.0416–0.0515 mg·kg −1 ), and robust recoveries (85.5–107.6 %), with enrichment factors of 389–410. Adsorption mechanisms were dominated by chemisorption, facilitated by π–π stacking and hydrogen bonding. The rapidity and efficiency of this method highlight its potential for high-throughput food safety analysis. This work underscores the synergistic integration of MOF/COF hybrids as advanced adsorbents for pesticide monitoring in complex food matrices.

Introduction Kidney tea is an essential herbal medicine. It is widely used to treat conditions such as urinary stones, gallstones, and rheumatoid arthritis. There is currently no standardized or widely accepted research strategy for evaluating the quality of kidney tea granules (KTGs) after granulation. Objectives In this study, we aim to establish a comprehensive strategy for evaluating the quality of KTGs produced from different sources of kidney tea. Methods A TLC combined with HPLC method was established to identify the chemical components in KTGs, and HPLC method was used to determine the contents of rosmarinic acid of KTGs. In order to distinguish samples and identify differential components, similarity analysis, hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA), principal component analysis (PCA), and orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) were conducted. Results TLC and HPLC detection confirmed three chemical components of KTGs, which are rosmarinic acid, caffeic acid, and lithospermic acid. HPLC fingerprint analysis revealed a total of seven common peaks in 15 batches of KTGs. Similarity analysis showed that the similarity of all 15 batches of KTGs was greater than 0.969. The peak areas of the seven common peaks were identified by chemical pattern recognition, and the results showed that most of the KTGs from different origins were clustered together, with small differences between them. The PCA and OPLS-DA results showed that two principal components can represent 82.638% of the common peaks of KTGs, among which peak 5 represents rosmarinic acid, which is the main differential biomarker of KTGs from different regions. Quantitative analysis of rosmarinic acid in KTG samples was performed using HPLC fingerprint conditions and the content of rosmarinic acid in 15 batches of KTGs samples was measured to be between 8.01–14.61 mg/g. Conclusion This study combines TLC, HPLC, and chemometrics to establish a stable and reliable method that can quickly and effectively identify the components of KTGs, accurately quantify known components in KTGs, and provide reference for the quality evaluation of KTGs.

Purpose: To explore the potential relationship between salivary amino acid concentrations and 8 km running performance in male undergraduate students. Methods: Thirty male undergraduate students were recruited. Participants completed an 8 km run while wearing smart bracelets. Saliva samples were collected before, immediately after, and 24 h after the run. Ultra-High Performance Liquid Chromatography (UHPLC) was used to quantify salivary amino acids. Results: The fast group (average speed > 12.80 km/h) had a significantly shorter running time (35.66 ± 1.30 min,p< 0.001) and higher speed (13.59 ± 0.46 km/h,p< 0.001) than the slow group. Before the run, salivary serine concentration (20.19 µg/mL,p= 0.013) was higher in the fast group. After 24 h, salivary glutamine concentration (6.65 µg/mL,p= 0.047) was lower in the fast group. Salivary threonine concentration was positively correlated with running speed. For every 1 µg/mL increase in salivary threonine concentration, average running speed increased by 0.011 km/h, and this correlation persisted after adjusting for age and heart rate. Conclusions: This study found a positive correlation between salivary threonine and 8 km running speed, along with differences in serine and glutamine concentrations among runners with different speeds. These findings provide preliminary evidence for the relationship between salivary amino acid concentrations and running performance, though further research with larger samples and diverse exercise types is needed.

Introduction: The quality of traditional Chinese medicine is based on the content of their secondary metabolites, which vary with habitat adaptation and ecological factors. This study focuses on Lonicera japonica Flos (LJF), a key traditional herbal medicine, and aims to evaluate how ecological factors impact its quality. Methods: We developed a new evaluation method combining high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) fingerprinting technology and MaxEnt models to assess the effects of ecological factors on LJF quality. The MaxEnt model was used to predict suitable habitats for current and future scenarios, while HPLC was employed to analyze the contents of key compounds. We also used ArcGIS for spatial analysis to create a quality zoning map. Results: The analysis identified 21 common chromatographic peaks, with significant variations in the contents of Hyperoside, Rutin, Chlorogenic acid, Cynaroside, and Isochlorogenic acid A across different habitats. Key environmental variables influencing LJF distribution were identified, including temperature, precipitation, and elevation. The current suitable habitats primarily include regions south of the Yangtze River. Under future climate scenarios, suitable areas are expected to shift, with notable expansions in southern Gansu, southeastern Tibet, and southern Liaoning. The spatial distribution maps revealed that high-quality LJF is predominantly found in central and southern Hebei, northern Henan, central Shandong, central Sichuan, southern Guangdong, and Taiwan.Discussion: The study indicates that suitable growth areas can promote the accumulation of certain secondary metabolites in plants, as the accumulation of these metabolites varies. The results underscore the necessity of optimizing quality based on cultivation practices. The integration of HPLC fingerprinting technology and the MaxEnt model provides valuable insights for the conservation and cultivation of herbal resources, offering a new perspective on evaluating the impact of ecological factors on the quality of traditional Chinese medicines.

The black rice bran component (BRBC) is the main difference between black rice and glutinous rice, but its influence on the flavor of rice wines brewed from them is ambiguous. To address this, the flavor profiles and compounds of four rice wines — brewed from glutinous rice (B), glutinous rice with BRBC (added), polished black rice (without BRBC), and whole black rice (HH) — were analyzed using e-nose, GC-MS and GC-IMS. The e-nose revealed significant aroma profile differences between B and HH, with 47 and 49 volatile compounds detected by GC-MS and GC-IMS, respectively. Orthogonal partial least-squares discrimination and fold change analysis highlighted the significant impact of BRBC on the aroma differences between HH and B. Chemometrics and odor activity values identified isoamyl acetate, ethyl caprylate, (E)-2-octenal, phenylethyl acetate, ethyl caproate, 2,4-heptadienal, and 1-octen-3-ol as key contributors to the fresh and fruity aroma in B, while ethyl butanoate, ethyl isoiautyrate, benzene acetaldehyde, (E)-2-octen-1-ol, guaiacol, and heptanal were predominant in HH, contributing to its rich and complex aroma. The e-tongue indicated significant taste distinctions between HH and B, potentially due to the influence of the black rice bran component on the regulation of organic acid and free amino acid content. This study provides new insights into the regulation of rice wine flavor through raw materials.

Lu'an Gua Pian tea (LAGP) is a traditional historical tea and one of the top ten famous teas in China. The price of LAGP from the same place of origin with different harvest time varies greatly in the market, among which the LAGP before the Qingming Festival (between April 4th and 6th every year) is regarded as a precious product. To accurately determine the harvest time of LAGP, especially around Qingming, HPLC-DAD combined with three different data analysis strategies (including targeted components analysis, non-targeted components analysis, and non-targeted fingerprint analysis) was evaluated and compared. Four machine learning algorithms are used to build the corresponding classification models, among which principal component analysis coupled with linear discriminant analysis (PCA-LDA), partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) and K-nearest neighbors (K-NN) achieved more than 95% classification accuracy. In addition, the non-targeted component analysis can classify LAGP picking time to a much smaller extent with an accuracy of 100% for PLS-DA. The advantages and disadvantages of three data analysis strategies were compared. Regardless of the data analysis strategy used, the final classification accuracy was satisfactory. The corresponding data analysis strategy can be selected according to the specific experimental purpose. This work provides a variety of alternative solutions based on HPLC-DAD for identifying the picking time of Lu'an Gua Pian.

Cadmium (Cd) pollution is an important environmental problem, as it is easily absorbed by plants and gradually accumulates in the human body through the food chain. This study aimed to elucidate the changes in the metabolic response of the rice cultivar “TanLiangYou215” under Cd stress. Rice was grown in soil culture at 0 (Control), 2 (Low group), and 10 (High group) mg/kg CdCl2for 90 days. The ultrastructural, Cd content, antioxidant activity, and metabolic changes to the rice in different tissues were analyzed. Phenotypic characterization and ultrastructure showed that the rice roots and leaves were significantly damaged and plant growth was inhibited in the High group, while plant growth was promoted in the Low group. Overall, Cd showed a regularity of “low promotion and high inhibition”. Physiological indices revealed that rice was significantly affected by Cd stress. Compared to the Control, Cd stress resulted in higher antioxidant enzyme activities, and the Low group suffered less oxidative damage than the High group. Metabolomic studies revealed that Cd stress significantly altered the metabolic profiles of rice plants. Rice responded to Cd stress by upregulating amino acids and regulating related pathways, including alanine, aspartate and glutamate metabolism, and arginine and proline metabolism. The significant expression of flavonoids with antioxidant properties helped rice resist the oxidative damage caused by Cd accumulation in the root tissue; Cd stress significantly downregulated glycerophospholipid metabolism in the stem and leaf tissues, which affected the cellular activities in rice stem and leaf tissues. We investigated the effects of Cd stress on ultrastructure, antioxidant activity, and metabolic changes in different tissues of the rice variety TLY215. Moreover, the different tissues of TLY215 can regulate these metabolic pathways to resist Cd stress, which provides valuable insights into the response of TLY215 to different concentrations of Cd.Keywords:cadmium (Cd);rice (Oryza sativaL.);phenotypic characterization;physiological activity;metabolomics
