The objective of this paper was to study the influence three promoters (Co, La, Mn) had on the catalytic activity of Rh-based catalysts for autothermal reforming of diesel. The catalysts were supported on CeO 2 -ZrO 2 and the loading was 1 wt.% Rh and 6 wt.% promoter. The catalytic activity was evaluated in a monolith bench scale reactor with Swedish Environmental diesel, MK1. The process parameters employed at the ATR experiments were; O 2 /C ∼ 0.45, H 2 O/C ∼ 2.5 and GHSV ∼ 50,000 h −1 , meanwhile the reactor temperature was ramped from 700 °C to 950 °C. The catalysts were compared based on their fuel conversion, H 2 yield and the selectivity of different short-chain hydrocarbons. The results showed that all three catalysts had both high fuel conversion and H 2 yield in the optimal ATR operation temperatures. The H 2 yield and fuel conversion were increasing in the order Rh/Mn, Rh/La, Rh/Co. To get further insight in the difference between the materials the fresh and aged catalytic materials were characterized. The characterization methods used were H 2 -temperature programmed reduction (H 2 -TPR), powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), and BET surface measurements. The BET surface measurements showed that promotion with La gave improved thermal stability of the material. The XRD showed a high dispersion of all metals except Co, which was present as crystals in the size range of the particles of the support.

Visible-light-driven manganese doped SrTiO 3 nanocubes with various manganese atomic percentages in the range of 3–7%, were prepared by a hydrothermal method. These obtained photocatalysts were systematically characterized by XRD, EDX, TEM, STEM, XPS, UV–vis, PL, EIS. The results demonstrated that the Mn 4+ has substituted into the lattice of SrTiO 3 nanocubes and the absorption onset shifted toward the visible region. It is beneficial to the photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline under the visible light irradiation. Interestingly, the optimal doping atomic percentages at 5% exhibited the highest degradation rates (66.7%) in 60 min. The high photocatalytic activity could be ascribed to the Mn doping adjustment the energy band of SrTiO 3 and the highly effective separation of photo-generated electron–hole pairs. Furthermore, the possible photocatalytic mechanism has been discussed based on the active species trapping experiments and ESR analysis.

A series of Mn-doped CdS hollow sphere photocatalysts has been directly synthesized by a simple and facile hydrothermal route for the first time. It was demonstrated that GSH acts as the S source and a gas bubble-template in this process. The products were characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, HRTEM, XPS, and UV-vis spectroscopy. The as-prepared CdS and Mn-doped CdS hollow spheres all showed much higher activity than P25 under visible light (λ > 420 nm) irradiation. Among them, the 2.0 mol% Mn-doped CdS sample exhibited the highest photoactivity for the removal of organic pollutant RhB, and about 99.2% MO was decomposed after 50 min of visible light irradiation. Moreover, this catalyst also showed good stability, and after four cycles, the degradation efficiency still remained at 85%. The excellent photoactivity of the as-prepared Mn-doped CdS hollow spheres could be attributed to the synergistic effects of its appropriate band-gap structure and the special porous spherical morphology. The unique hollow sphere structure may favor the harvesting of excited light due to its special multiple scattering effect within the interior space, and the doping of Mn2+ may facilitate the generation of photoinduced electrons and hole pairs, and inhibit their recombination rate by acting as temporary trapping sites. This material may have great application potentials in environmental remediation and energy harvesting.

Ni modified Ce 0.6 Mn 0.3 Fe 0.1 O 2 (Ni-CMF) material is evaluated as an anode material for hybrid direct carbon fuel cell (HDCFC). The Temperature Programmed Reaction (TPR) and GC test results show that the Ni additive significantly promotes the oxidation of carbon and consequently accelerates the formation rate of CO. Moreover, the Ni-CMF material is found to show a high electrical conductivity compared to pure CMF in HDCFC operating conditions. Taking advantage of the excellent catalytic activity and high conductivity, the electrolyte-supported HDCFC with Ni-CMF anode shows a high maximum power density of 580.7 mW cm −2 at 800 °C, when activated carbon is used as the fuel. Furthermore, the cell displays good stability under galvanostatic operation at current density of 50 mA cm −2 at 750 °C. These results indicate that the designed Ni-CMF composite material has the potential to be developed as an alternative anode for HDCFCs.

Efficient removal of extremely mobile and toxic As(III) from water is a challenging but critical task. Herein, we developed a functionalized sorbent of chitosan nanofiber with iron–manganese (Fe-Mn@CS NF) using a one-step hybrid electrospinning approach to remove trace As(III) from water. Batch adsorption studies were performed to determine the adsorption efficiency under a variety of conditions, including contact time, starting concentration of As(III), ionic strength, and the presence of competing anions. The experimental results demonstrated that the concentration of As(III) dropped from 550 to less than 1.2 µg/L when using 0.5 g/L Fe-Mn@CS NF. This demonstrates the exceptional adsorption efficiency (99.8%) of Fe-Mn@CS NF for removing As(III) at pH 6.5. The kinetic tests revealed that the adsorption equilibrium was reached in 2.6 h, indicating a quick uptake of As(III). The ionic strength effect analysis showed that the adsorbed As(III) formed inner-sphere surface complexes with Fe-Mn@CS NF. The presence of SO42−or F−had a negligible impact on As(III) uptake, while the presence of PO43−impeded As(III) absorption by competing for adsorption sites. The exhausted sorbent could be effectively regenerated with a dilute NaOH solution. Even after 10 cycles of regenerating Fe-Mn@CS NF, the adsorption efficiency of As(III) in natural groundwater was maintained over 65%. XPS and FTIR analyses show that the presence of M–OH and C–O groups on the sorbent surface is essential for removing As(III) from water. Overall, our study highlights the significant potential of Fe-Mn@CS NF for the efficient and quick elimination of As(III) from water.

In this work, ultrasonic-assisted laser cladding technology was employed to fabricate shape memory alloy (SMA) coatings composed of Fe-Mn-Si-Cr-Ni on the surface of 304 stainless steel. Both experimental and simulated results unequivocally demonstrate a substantial improvement in both microhardness and wear resistance of the metal surface. Subsequently, a superhydrophobic coating with an “armor-like” structure was comprehensively prepared by integrating femtosecond laser (FSL) and nano SiO 2 spray-coating techniques. The creation of this microstructure on the coating surface efficiently facilitated the high-efficiency embedding of nano SiO 2 particles. Notably, the modified SMA coating exhibited stable superhydrophobic properties and exceptional corrosion resistance. This research not only provides novel approaches and methods for the preparation and modification of Fe-based memory alloy coatings but also highlights potential applications in the corrosion-resistant field. The work offers valuable insights for researchers in the field of materials science, emphasizing the synergistic effects of ultrasound-assisted laser cladding technology, femtosecond laser, and nano SiO 2 spraying techniques. It provides robust support for the development of new functional coatings.

Using metal oxides to disperse iridium (Ir) in the anode layer proves effective for lowering Ir loading in proton exchange membrane water electrolyzers (PEMWE). However, the reported low-Ir-based catalysts still suffer from unsatisfying electrolytic efficiency and durability under practical industrial working conditions, mainly due to insufficient catalytic activity and mass transport in the catalyst layer. Herein we report a class of porous heterogeneous nanosheet catalyst with abundant Ir-O-Mn bonds, achieving a notable mass activity of 4 A mg Ir −1 for oxygen evolution reaction at an overpotential of 300 mV, which is 150.6 times higher than that of commercial IrO 2 . Ir-O-Mn bonds are unraveled to serve as efficient charge-transfer channels between in-situ electrochemically-formed IrO x clusters and MnO x matrix, fostering the generation and stabilization of highly active Ir 3+ species. Notably, Ir/MnO x -based PEMWE demonstrates comparable performance under 10-fold lower Ir loading (0.2 mg Ir cm −2 ), taking a low cell voltage of 1.63 V to deliver 1 A cm −2 for over 300 h, which positions it among the elite of low Ir-based PEMWEs.

In the current study, catalytic oxidation technology is among the most widely used methods for removing chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs). This article details the preparation of the Ag-Mn@ZSM-5 catalyst, which was prepared via the hydrothermal approach, followed by the incorporation of nano-Ag. The focus of the study is the catalytic oxidation of chlorobenzene (CB). Experimental results indicate that the hydrothermally synthesized nano-silver modified Ag-Mn@ZSM-5 catalyst, exhibiting a T90 of 290 °C, demonstrates superior performance compared to the Ag-Mn/ZSM-5 catalyst prepared via the traditional impregnation method, which has a T90 of 365 °C. As the operating airspeed increased from 7000 h −1 to 42000 h −1 , the removal efficiency of CB consistently remained above 90%, with stability maintained over a duration of 30 h. Furthermore, the catalyst exhibited excellent water resistance during a 12 h switching water test. Based on the characterization results, after loading Ag, the ratio of Mn 4+ and Mn 3+ on the surface of the Ag-Mn@ZSM-5 catalyst increases, the reducibility is enhanced, and the surface adsorbed oxygen species is increased, which is conducive to improving the catalytic activity. In addition, the Ag-Mn@ZSM-5 catalyst possesses an optimal pore structure, the proportion of mesoporous is 79.06%, suitable redox capacity, abundant acidic sites, and features a compact crystal stacking structure, which results in remarkable stability, catalytic activity, and space velocity resistance of the catalyst. These advantageous properties facilitate the adsorption and deep oxidation of CB. This study presents promising prospects for industrial applications and aims to offer innovative strategies for the treatment of chlorine-containing waste gases.

The capacity of Co-free Li-rich Mn-based layered oxide decreases rapidly due to the irreversible lattice oxygen lose and the crystal structure change. The sodium modified cathode materials are synthesized via the sol–gel method and the electrochemical properties are investigated. Specifically, the first discharge capacity of Li 1.18 Na 0.02 Mn 0.54 Ni 0.26 O 2 is 150.5 mAh·g −1 at 2C, demonstrating a capacity preservation rate of 94.1 % after 100 cycles. And the diffusion coefficient of Li 1.18 Na 0.02 Mn 0.54 Ni 0.26 O 2 is 1.2152 × 10 -15 , which is better than 1.3798 × 10 -16 of the undoped material. This work demonstrates that appropriate Na + doping can stabilize the crystal structure, increase the lithium layer spacing and reduce the irrevocable escape of lattice oxygen within material.

The function of heterogeneous catalyst in singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) generation under acidic and neutral conditions and the effect of sulfate radical on the generation of 1 O 2 is still unclear. This study provided a novel generation pathway of 1 O 2 in the heterogeneous Mn single − atom catalyst (Mn SAC)/peroxymonosulfate (PMS) system. The MnN4 site with the ideal binding strength promoted the activation of PMS to generate sulfate radical (SO 4 •– ), which would be adsorbed on the carbon/nitrogen sites forming SO 4 •– (s) , reacting spontaneously to produce 1 O 2 . The presence of MnN4 and carbon/nitrogen structure sites could shift the oxidation process from a bulk–phase oxidation to a surface oxidation. This shift has important implications in terms of reaction rate and product distribution, as the dual reaction sites decrease the required migration distance for the active species to form 1 O 2 , avoiding the pointless consumption of active substances.

The Calcium looping thermochemical reaction directly driven by solar energy effectively addresses the problem of efficient energy storage of concentrated solar power plants (CSP) by shortening the energy conversion path. But new requirements are put forward for energy storage materials, including high solar radiation absorption, high cycling stability and fast kinetics. To meet these challenges, we have designed porous microsphere structures for the purpose of enhancing mass transfer and the capture of solar radiation. Additionally, Zr and Mn oxides with elevated Tammann temperatures were incorporated to stabilize the morphology and prevent sintering. The synthesized porous microspheres retained abundant mesoporous channels on the surface even after undergoing 20 cycles. The addition of Mn oxide significantly enhances solar spectral absorptivity, achieving an impressive 82.88 % absorbance. The incorporation of Mn and Zr oxides increased the sintering resistance, specific surface area and porosity of CaO/CaCO 3 , especially in the 10–100 nm range, which accelerated the CO 2 transport during carbonation. These enhancements significantly improve the chemical control stage of the carbonation reaction, as further supported by kinetic models. After 50 cycle experiments at 800 °C, the energy storage density of the sample remains at 1074 kJ/kg, which is 1.86 times that of the undoped CaCO 3 . This study provides a new way to design CaCO 3 materials suitable for CSP applications.

Copper in vegetables can enter the human body, and excessive copper may cause uncomfortable symptoms; thus, it is urgent to test copper ions for safety concerns. Herein, we prepared Zn2GeO4:Mn2+,In3+ (ZGO:Mn,In) persistent luminescent nanoparticles (PLNPs) and then grafted glutathione for the determination of copper ions. ZGO:Mn,In was prepared by doping In3+ in ZGO:Mn to improve the emission at 532 nm under excitation at 258 nm. The doping amount, temperature, time, and pH were carefully optimized for a stronger emission intensity than ZGO:Mn. The fractional densities and energy band gaps were calculated by density functional theory, revealing the excitation enhancement mechanism of ZGO:Mn,In. The surface of ZGO:Mn,In was modified with carboxyl groups for linking glutathione to specially identify Cu2+ ions. The identification resulted in the aggregation-induced quenching of PLNPs’ emission. Thus, the sensor exhibited good selectivity for copper ions, and the composite was successfully applied to the detection of copper ions in serum and vegetable samples.
