Electrochemical water-splitting is widely regarded as one of the essential strategies to produce hydrogen energy, while Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) materials are used to prepare electrochemical catalysts because of its controllable morphology and low cost. Herein, a series of trimetallic porous Pt-inlaid Ni–Fe nanocubes (NCs) are developed with bifunctions of hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). In the process of prepare the electrochemical catalysts, Pt nanoparticles are uniformly embedded in the Fe–Ni PBA cube structure, and ascorbic acid is employed as a reducing agent to reduce Pt 2+ to Pt nanoparticles. In this work, the cubic structure of Fe–Ni PBA is maintained and the noble metal Pt nanoparticles are embedded. Remarkably, the formation of PBA cubes, Pt inlay and reduction are completed in one step, and Pt nanoparticles are embedded by a simple method for the first time. By employing acid etching method, a porous structure is formed on the PBA cube, which increases the exposed area of the catalyst and provides more active sites for HER and OER. Due to the porous structure, highly electrochemical active surface area and the embedded of highly dispersed Pt nanoparticles, the porous 0.6 Ni–Fe–Pt nanocubes (NCs) exhibits excellently electrocatalytic performance and durable stability to HER and OER. In this work, for HER and OER, the Tafel slopes are 81 and 65 mV dec −1 , the overpotential η at the current density of 10 mA cm −2 are 463 and 333 mV, and the onset potential are 0.444 and 1.548 V, respectively. And after a 12-h i-t test and 1000 cycles of cyclic voltammetry (CV), it maintained high stability and durability. This work opens up a new preparation method for noble metal embedded MOF materials and provided a new idea for the preparation of carbon nanocomposites based on MOF.

The selective hydrogenolysis of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) platform molecule to 2,5-dimethylfuran (DMF) has attracted increasing attention due to its broad range of applications. However, HMF, with multiple functional groups, produces various byproducts, hindering its use on an industrial scale. Herein, a bimetallic Pt-FeOx/AC catalyst with low Pt and FeOx loadings for selective HMF hydrogenolysis to DMF was prepared by incipient wetness impregnation. The structures and properties of different catalysts were characterized by XRD, XPS, TEM, ICP-OES and Py-FTIR techniques. The addition of FeOx enhanced Pt dispersion and the Lewis acidic site density of the catalysts, and was found to be able to inhibit C=C hydrogenation, thereby im-proving DMF yield. Moreover, the presence of Pt promoted the reduction of iron oxide, creating a strong interaction between Pt and FeOx. This synergistic effect originated from the activation of the C–O bond over FeOx species followed by hydrogenolysis over the adjacent Pt, and played a critical role in hydrogenolysis of HMF to DMF, achieving a yield of 91% under optimal reaction conditions. However, the leaching of Fe species caused a metal–acid imbalance, which led to an increase in ring hydrogenation products.Keywords:5-hydroxymethylfurfural;2,5-dimethylfuran;hydrogenolysis;Pt-FeOx/AC;synergistic effect

As an emerging two-dimensional material, tin disulfide (SnS2) has attracted growing interest due to its superior performance in high-speed and high-sensitive photodetectors. However, low responsivity, large dark current, and slow response speed severely hinder its further practical application. Herein, the enhanced photodetection performance of Schottky photodetectors based on SnS2 nanosheets and Schottky contact effects on the photodetection performance were investigated. High-quality SnS2 nanosheets were synthesized via a facile hydrothermal method. Then Schottky photodetectors with Pt/SnS2/Al and Au/SnS2/Al structures were fabricated and detected. Compared to the Ohmic Al/SnS2/Al photodetector, the Schottky Pt/SnS2/Al and Au/SnS2/Al photodetectors exhibited better photodetection performances, including tenfold higher responsivities, tenfold lower dark currents, and slightly shorter response times. In particular, the Schottky Pt/SnS2/Al photodetector obtained a low dark current of 5.2 nA, a high responsivity of 952 μA W−1, and a response time of 0.13 s. The enhancement in the photodetection performance of the Schottky photodetectors is due to the reverse bias and built-in electric field caused by Schottky contacts. Our finding provides an effective approach to enhance the photodetection performance of SnS2-based photodetectors for high-performance optoelectronic applications.

Platinum nanoparticles (Pt-NPs) have been developed for enhanced toxicity against tumor cells. However, the therapeutic effect of Pt-NPs was severely limited by the lack of cellular uptake of Pt-NPs and an oxidative environment. The combination of starvation therapy with Pt-NP based chemotherapy in a well-designed nano-system is expected to eliminate tumors. Therefore, GOx and Pt-NPs were coated with PLGA to obtain a functional nano-system (GOx–Pt-NS), which increased the cellular uptake of Pt-NPs. The accumulation of GOx–Pt-NS in tumors increased significantly via the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect of nanoparticles. In addition, protection of the GOx–Pt-NS overcame several drawbacks of GOx such as poor stability, short in vivo half-life, immunogenicity, and systemic toxicity. Glucose oxidase (GOx) elevated the gluconic acid ROS levels in tumor cells, resulting in an acidic and oxidative environment. The acidic and oxidative environment enhanced the conversion of Pt2+via Pt NPs as well as DNA-binding ability. Finally, combining GOx based starvation therapy with Pt-NP based chemotherapy was expected to eliminate tumors more efficiently through a synergistic strategy.

Glycerol (GLY) aerobic oxidation in an aqueous solution is one of the most prospective pathways in biomass transformation, where the supported catalysts based on noble metals (mainly Au, Pd, Pt) are most commonly employed. Herein, Pt nanoparticles supported on rehydrated Mg x Al 1 -hydrotalcite (denoted as re-Mg x Al 1 -LDH-Pt) were prepared via impregnation-reduction method followed by an in situ rehydration process, which showed high activity and selectivity towards GLY oxidation to produce glyceric acid (GLYA) at room temperature. The metal-support interfacial structure and catalyst basicity were modulated by changing the Mg/Al molar ratio of the hydrotalcite precursor, and the optimal performance was achieved on re-Mg 6 Al 1 -LDH-Pt with a GLY conversion of 87.6% and a GLYA yield of 58.6%, which exceeded the traditional activated carbon and oxide supports. A combinative study on structural characterizations (XANES, CO-FTIR spectra, and benzoic acid titration) proves that a higher Mg/Al molar ratio promotes the formation of positively charged Pt δ + species at metal-support interface, which accelerates bond cleavage of α-C–H and improves catalytic activity. Moreover, a higher Mg/Al molar ratio provides a stronger basicity of support that contributes to the oxidation of terminal-hydroxyl and thus enhances the selectivity of GLYA. This catalyst with tunable metal-support interaction shows prospective applications toward transformation of biomass-based polyols.

Based on tyrosinase modified Au-Pt@SiO2/Au-graphene (APS/Au-GN) electrode, a highly sensitive biosensor was developed for the direct electrochemical detection of bisphenol A (BPA) in food matrices. In this work, Au-graphene (Au-GN), Au-Pt@SiO2 nanocomposites (APS NPs) and tyrosinase (Tyr) were subsequently cast on glass carbon electrode (GCE) via the electrostatic interaction and Van der Waals force. The self-assembled APS NPs and Tyr were decorated on Au-GN forming a new hierarchical three dimensional nanostructure. Due to the dense Au/Pt dots distributed on silica nanoparticles, APS NPs could behave excellent catalytic activity and stability. In this regard, BPA could be sensitively detected by square wave voltammetry (SWV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) with well-defined oxidation peaks at 480 mV and 660 mV, respectively. Under the optimal conditions, SWV detection behaved good analytical performance toward BPA with a wide linear response ranging from 0.01 mg L−1 to10 mg L−1. The detection limit of APS/Au-GN/GCE for BPA was 1.80 μg L−1 (S/N = 3). Moreover, the method showed good reproducibility in practical samples with recoveries from 87.4% to 110.7%, suggesting its potential application in food analysis and safety verification.

Construction of heterostructured photocatalysts is a feasible method for improving hydrogen production from water splitting because of its good charge transport efficiency. Herein, we coupled the Ti-MOFs (TiATA) with metal-free graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) to synthesize composites, g-C 3 N 4 @TiATA, in which a heterostructure was formed between g-C 3 N 4 and TiATA. The establishment of heterojunctions not only broadens the light absorption range of g-C 3 N 4 @TiATA (490 nm) by contrast with g-C 3 N 4 (456 nm), but also greatly accelerates charge migration. Photocatalytic studies present that the construction of heterostructure steering the charges flow from g-C 3 N 4 to TiATA and then delivery to the cocatalyst of Pt nanoparticles , exhibiting an impressively photocatalytic hydrogen production rate (265.8 μmol·h −1 ) in assistance of 300 W Xenon lamp, which is about 3.4 times as much as g-C 3 N 4 /Pt.

Fe-Co nanoparticle-incorporated carbon nanofibers ((Fe-Co)-CNFs) were obtained by a simple and flexible electrospinning method and were further pre-oxidized and carbonized under a high-temperature nitrogen atmosphere for application as counter electrodes for highly efficient platinum-free dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Electrochemical characterizations revealed that the (Fe-Co)-CNFs showed excellent electrocatalytic activity for the I 3 − /I − redox couple. Photoelectric performance tests have shown that dye-sensitized solar cells equipped with (Fe-Co)-CNF counter electrodes have comparable photovoltaic efficiency to platinum counter electrode cells. This is because the graphite properties of these fibers rendered them electronically conducting. One-dimensional nanofibers provide oriented electron transport pathways, while lapped fibers form a three-dimensional mesoporous network, enhancing the contact with the electrolyte, and hence leading to faster ionic reaction kinetics. This study demonstrates that (Fe-Co)-CNFs can be used as low-cost high-efficiency counter electrodes for DSSCs.

In this paper, we mainly studied the preparation of platinum-containing composite materials with carbon nanotubes wrapped by polypyrimidine-conjugated polymers and the performance of the composites. The polymer-based carbon nanotubes/Pt catalysts were prepared successfully and confirmed by infrared spectroscopy, XPS, XRD, and TEM images. The performance of polypyrimidine/multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)/Pt and polypyrimidine/double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs)/Pt was compared with the polypyrimidine/single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs)/Pt. The amount of the loaded Pt on the polypyrimidine/MWCNTs and polypyrimidine/DWCNTs was calculated to be 50.5 wt% and 52.7 wt% respectively. The effective specific surface area of the polypyrimidine/MWCNTs/Pt (45.7 m 2 /g) and polypyrimidine/DWCNTs/Pt (42.47 m 2 /g) was observed by electrochemical cyclic voltammetry. These studies strongly imply that the MWCNTs were better candidates than DWCNTs and SWCNTs in the application of polypyrimidine/CNT materials as catalyst for fuel cells.

Electrocatalyst for oxygen-reduction reaction (ORR) is crucial for metal-air batteries, in which Pt-based materials are the benchmark catalysts for ORR. However, the high cost and limited supplies of Pt limit its broad use in commercial applications. Designing highly efficient Pt electrocatalysts can reduce material cost and enable commercial success for a wide variety of electrochemical technologies. Herein, we prepared Pt/MnO x and Pt/MnO electrocatalysts via deposition–precipitation and H 2 –reduction approaches. The Pt mass activities towards the ORR at 0.7 V for the Pt/MnO x , and Pt/MnO catalysts were 4.0 and 3.7 A mg Pt −1 , respectively, which were 20, and 18.5 times as commercial 20% Pt/C catalyst. The transferred electron numbers (n) were 3.6 and 4.0 for Pt/MnO x and Pt/MnO, respectively. Moreover, Pt/MnO catalyst exhibited a good ORR stability after 500 cycles compared to Pt/MnO x catalyst in 0.1 M KOH.

The Cu@Pt/C nanocomposites have been synthesized via two-step reduction method. Electrochemical observations showed that the Cu@Pt/C had better electrocatalytic activity for the reduction of hydrogen peroxide than Pt/C, with a wide linear range between 0.50 μM and 32.56 mM, a high sensitivity of 351.3 μA mM − 1 cm − 2 , and a low detection limit of 0.15 μM (signal/noise = 3). Furthermore, the sensor based on Cu@Pt/C has potential applications due to its excellent long-time stability, good reproducibility and acceptable selectivity.
