The application of Li-S batteries is hampered by some unresolved issues, including the severe polysulfides shuttle effects and sluggish reaction kinetics. Hence, we designed and prepared tin oxide hydroxide quantum dots (TOH) anchored on a honeycomb porous carbon (HPC) matrix as multifunctional sulfur hosts, and deeply studied the enhancement of TOH on the reaction kinetics of Li-S battery referred to as the apparent activation energy, Li+ ion diffusion coefficient, and reaction barrier. It is proved by density functional theory that the HPC@TOH hosts have a higher binding energy to polysulfides than the simplex carbon matrix. Meanwhile, the catalytic TOH can decrease the surface active energy of the redox reaction and accelerate the conversion of sulfur-containing species. Consequently, by means of the synergistic effects of physical capture and chemical adsorption together with catalytic conversion, the comprehensive performances of Li-S batteries are distinctly promoted. In particular, a Li-S battery using HPC@TOH as a host delivers a good reversible specific capacity of 1342.95 mAh g–1 at 0.1 C. Moreover, with the current increased to 1 C, it shows a relatively satisfactory specific capacity of 918.05 mAh g–1. After 400 cycles, a competitive specific capacity of 688.54 mAh g–1 can still be maintained with a very low fading rate of 0.06% per cycle. Most importantly, when the sulfur areal loading reaches as high as 4.25 mg cm–2 and electrolyte/sulfur ratio is controlled to be as low as 7 μL mg–1, and the Li-S battery using HPC @TOH as a host can still cycle steadily more than 50 cycles at 0.2 C. Therefore, this work provides an effective manner to boost the comprehensive performance of Li-S batteries by virtue of optimizing and designing the host material with synergistic effects of physical capture, chemical adsorption, and catalytic conversion.

Near-infrared photodetectors based on narrow-bandgap tin-lead (Sn-Pb) mixed perovskites hold great promise for next-generation optoelectronics. However, their performance and stability are severely hampered by detrimental interfacial reactions at the NiO x /perovskite junction. Herein, we demonstrate an effective interface modification approach with multifunctional CuSCN interlayer to construct a high-quality NiO x /perovskite heterojunction. The introduction of CuSCN can effectively suppressed interface reactions between NiO x and Sn-Pb perovskite in two ways, by forming a physical spacer layer to avoid the direct contact and by forming coordinate covalent bond with Ni ≥3+ to reduce the highly reactive defects. Additionally, the CuSCN interlayer can not only optimize the energy level alignment with reduced hole transporting barrier and high electron injection barrier, but also promote the growth of perovskite films with superior crystallinity and preferred orientation. As a result, the fabricated near-infrared photodetectors exhibit outstanding performance with a high responsivity of 0.497 A W −1 and a specific detectivity of 2.65 × 10 12 Jones at 940 nm. Remarkably, the devices based on CuSCN modified HTL demonstrate significantly enhanced operational stability in ambient air with high-humidity (70%–95% RH). This work provides a versatile interface regulation approach for developing high-performance and stable Sn-Pb perovskite photodetectors toward a broader range of practical applications.

A series of cubic-phase indium tin oxide (ITO) nanoparticles (NPs) with varying tin (Sn) doping ratios were synthesized via a solvothermal method. By precisely controlling the dopant concentration, the resulting ITO NPs of approximately 15 nm with excellent crystallinity achieved tunable infrared localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) absorption across the 1000–6000 nm wavelength range. For the first time, the antibacterial properties of ITO NPs under dark conditions were systematically investigated, revealing a strong correlation between their infrared LSPR absorption characteristics and antibacterial efficacy. Notably, ITO NPs with 5% Sn doping ratio exhibited the highest LSPR quality factor and the strongest antibacterial activity, producing an inhibition zone diameter 3.33 times larger than that of the control. In contrast, undoped, lightly doped, or excessively doped samples showed either diminished plasmonic quality factors, weak antibacterial activity, or a complete absence of antibacterial effects. This study represents the first demonstration of exploiting infrared LSPR-active ITO NPs for spontaneous antibacterial activity in darkness. The observed functionality is attributed to the NPs’ ability to absorb and convert ambient background radiation into localized energy. In summary, this work establishes ITO NPs as a novel class of inorganic antibacterial materials for dark environments with promising potential for coating and surface protection applications.

Chloride-based composite phase change materials (CPCMs) are widely employed in high-temperature solar thermal energy storage due to their high melting temperatures, large heat-storage capacity, and low cost. However, their practical application is limited by molten salt migration, insufficient photothermal conversion efficiency, and agglomeration of functional nanoparticle additives at elevated temperatures. In this work, TiN nanoparticles are electrostatically adsorbed onto the surface of expanded graphite (EG), constructing a uniformly dispersed and strongly coupled TiN@EG interfacial architecture, which is subsequently integrated with a NaCl-KCl eutectic salt and fine MgAl 2 O 4 particles to fabricate a high-stability CPCM. Compared with direct nanoparticle addition, electrostatic adsorption effectively suppresses TiN agglomeration, enhances interfacial bonding, and constructs continuous pathways for light absorption and heat transport. As a result, the electrostatically assembled CPCMs exhibit significantly enhanced broadband solar absorptivity in the 200-2500 nm range and a thermal conductivity exceeding 6 W m −1 K −1 at room temperature. The apparent photothermal conversion efficiency, evaluated from the temperature rise under 1 sun irradiation within 300 s, increases from 48.65% for the pristine sample to 85.93% for the optimized CPCM. Meanwhile, excellent cycling durability is achieved, with a mass loss of 0.61 wt% after 100 thermal cycles, owing to the combined encapsulation effect of EG and fine MgAl 2 O 4 particles that effectively suppress molten salt migration. A comprehensive comparison further demonstrates that the present CPCMs achieve a well-balanced integration of photothermal efficiency, thermal conductivity, and mass stability, highlighting the effectiveness of electrostatic assembly enabled interfacial engineering for developing high-temperature CPCMs for solar thermal energy storage.

Among various glass matrices, low-melting-point glass stands out as an excellent candidate for fabricating high-performance white light-emitting diodes (LED), owing to its brilliant physical, chemical and thermal stability. The optimization of glass components to enhance optical performance constitutes a critical research challenge. Our team first proposed using orthogonal design to prepare phosphor-in-glass (PiG) and investigate glass matrix ratios. When adding Y 3 Al 5 O 12 :Ce 3+ (YAG) phosphor, the 2:4:3 glass matrix demonstrated optimal optical performance, achieving a luminous efficacy of 145.31 lm/W at 50 mA. Impressively, commercially available BaSi₂O₂N₂: Eu²⁺ (BSON) and CaAlSiN₃: Eu²⁺ (CASN) phosphors were incorporated into YAG glass, the prepared PiG-LED exhibited full spectrum emission under blue chip excitation with low correlated color temperature (CCT = 3656 K) and excellent color rendering (R a = 92.3, R 9 = 93, R 13 = 95). The D uv of the BSON&YAG&CASN-PiG sample is -0.0013, which is lower than the ±0.006 tolerance required for practical lighting applications. In this study, a novel idea for PiG composition and property optimization by orthogonal design is proposed. The experimental results confirm its feasibility as a widely applicable idea for the preparation and optimization of glass composites. The PiG-LED data show the excellence and application potential of this method.

Current methods for recovering copper (Cu), lead (Pb) and tin (Sn) from photovoltaic (PV) solder ribbons usually completely dissolve or melt the solder ribbons and then recover each element, which are reagent-intensive and generate large amounts of secondary waste. Herein, we develop an environmentally sustainable method for recovering Cu, Pb and Sn from End-of-Life (EoL) PV solder ribbons. First, above 95 % of pure Cu is recovered in the acetic acid (HAc) and hydrogen peroxide mixture (H 2 O 2 ), by which the Pb-Sn coating is selectively dissolved and separated from the Cu substrate. Second, the small portion of dissolved Cu 2+ is separated by solvent extraction (e.g., Lix84-I) and then is recovered by the electrolysis with a recovery rate of 99 %. Third, the dissolved Pb is recovered by electrochemical deposition with a recovery rate of 99 %, and Sn is recovered as Sn/SnO 2 powders. The selective recovery relies on the core–shell structure of ribbons and the different dissolution rates of Cu, Pb and Sn in the HAc, and the use of the HAc instead of HCl and HNO 3 leads to a cleaner process. Overall, the green recovery of solder ribbons will contribute to resource conservation and the circular economy of the EoL photovoltaic modules (PVMs).

Covalent-organic frameworks (COFs) and related composites show an enormous potential in next-generation high energy-density lithium-ion batteries. However, the strategy to design functional covalent organic framework materials with nanoscale structure and controllable morphology faces serious challenges. In this work, a layer-assembled hollow microspherical structure (Sn@COF-hollow) based on the tin-nitrogen (Sn-N) coordination interaction is designed. Such carefully-crafted hollow structure with large exposed surface area and metal center decoration endows the Sn@COF-hollow electrode with more activated lithium-reaction sites, including Sn ions, carbon-nitrogen double bond (C N) groups and carbon-carbon double bond (C C) units from aromatic benzene rings. Besides, the layer-assembled hollow structure of the Sn@COF-hollow electrode can also alleviate the volume expansion of electrode during repeated cycling, and achieve fast electrons/ions transmission and capacitance-dominated lithium-reaction kinetics, further leading to enhanced cycling performance and rate properties. In addition, the effective combination of the inorganic metal and organic framework components in the Sn@COF-hollow electrode can promote its improved conductivity and further enhance lithium-storage properties. Benefited from these merits, the Sn@COF-hollow electrode delivers highly reversible large capacities of 1080 mAh g −1 after 100 cycles at 100 mA g −1 and 685 mAh g −1 after 300 cycles at 1000 mA g −1 . This work provides an interesting and effective way to design COF-based anodes of lithium-ion battery with improved electrochemical performances.

A series of CH3NH3PbBr3 (MAPbBr3) nanostructure-based films with various thicknesses on indium-tin-oxide (ITO)-covered substrates were fabricated by the spin-coating technique. The effects of ITO on the structure, surface morphology, and optical properties of MAPbBr3 thin films were investigated, respectively. Compared with monolayer MAPbBr3 thin films, the ITO buffer layer has the effect of improving the crystalline quality and preferential orientation of MAPbBr3 thin films, realizing the transition from reverse saturation absorption to saturation absorption. The tunability of nonlinear optical absorption was achieved by changing the thickness of the MAPbBr3 film. The maximum three-photon absorption coefficient of the monolayer MAPbBr3 film was 7.35 × 10–14 cm3/W2. The maximum third-order nonlinearity coefficient of MAPbBr3/ITO composite film was −1.04 × 10–5 cm/W. In addition, the finite-difference time-domain simulation results were in good agreement with the experimental results. These results indicate that the synthesized MAPbBr3 nanostructure-based films have potential applications in nonlinear optical devices.

Polyester/cotton (T/C) blend fabrics are highly flammable due to the particular “scaffolding effect,” which limits its application scope. In this work, a polyacrylic acid (PAA) flame-retardant coating was prepared by combining a conventional intumescent flame retardants (IFRs) with a hybrid of graphene and metallic tin (GnPSn) prepared by mechanical forces. The flame retardants were deposited onto the T/C blend fabric by surface coating method, and its flame-retardant and thermal properties were studied. The combined characterization of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and mapping proved that the coating system had been successfully processed to the surface of T/C blend fabrics. The results of limiting oxygen index (LOI) showed that PER-1/GnPSn-4 polyester/cotton blends obtained good flame-retardant properties with LOI of 25.0%. The thermal stability and combustion behavior of the blends before and after impregnation were evaluated by thermogravimetric (TG) and cone calorimetry test (CCT), and the peak heat release rate of PER-1/GnPSn-4 polyester/cotton blends was 51.2% lower than that of Pure Emulsion T/C blend fabrics, with an increase in residual carbon by 16.39%, which indicated that the addition of GnPSn altered the thermal degradation process and suppressed the combustion of the T/C blend fabrics, heat and smoke release during the combustion process. In addition, the results of thermogravimetric-Fourier transform infrared (TG-IR) spectroscopy of the samples showed that the intumescent composite coatings were flame retardant to T/C blended fabrics in both condensed phase and gas phase.

ABSTRACT A new electrochemical sensor for determination of 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (2,4,6-TCP) was fabricated. The characterization of the sensor was studied by scanning electron microscopy, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry techniques. The electrochemical behavior of 2,4,6-TCP was investigated using cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry at the HS-β-cyclodextrin (HS-β-CD)/gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) composite modified indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode. The results showed that the current responses of 2,4,6-TCP greatly enhanced due to the high catalytic activity and enrichment capability of composites. The peak current of 2,4,6-TCP increases linearly with the increase of the 2,4,6-TCP concentration from 3.0 × 10 −9 to 2.8 × 10 −8 M, with the limit of detection of 1.0 × 10 −9 . Further more, the modified electrode was successfully applied to detect the level of 2,4,6-TCP in tap water samples with excellent sensitivity.

To address short-term emission of massive particulate matter (PM) from diesel engines, rapid regeneration of catalyzed diesel particulate filters (CDPF) based on soot combustion is a considerable challenge. Herein, we employed an aluminosilicate fiber-weaved ceramic paper (CP) as a filter matrix, on which highly active potassium-supported antimony-doped tin oxides (K/ATO) were coated to fabricate a CDPF. The K/ATO/CP monolith preserves the 3D-network structure of CP while incorporating the mesopores of K/ATO, providing potential for trapping soot particles effectively. Furthermore, electricity pulses are designed to pass through the conductive K/ATO coating on the monolith for CDPF regeneration, achieving nearly complete soot conversion within less than half a minute using 1400 J of energy input. Both the reaction rate and the energy efficiency surpass previously reported those of other methods for soot combustion. Mechanism studies revealed that the electricity pulse can stimulate the release of tremendous lattice oxygen from the catalyst and in turn trigger rapid soot combustion, and boost surface sulfate decomposition to alleviate SO 2 poisoning. This work presents an electrification strategy to realize rapid regeneration of CDPF for effective PM elimination utilizing onboard electricity system for hybrid powers.

The development of cost-effective, highly active and durable Pt-based electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) remains a major challenge to advancing proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). Hollow nanoarchitecture loaded with metal alloys has been widely used as a nanoreactor to regulate electronic structure of active sites and enhance reactant enrichment. In this study, PtCo alloy nanoparticles are uniformly dispersed on both outer and inner surfaces of hollow TiN spheres and carbon composite support (Pt 3 Co/H-TiN-C). The optimized Pt 3 Co/H-TiN-C nanoreactor delivers a mass activity of 64 mA mg Pt −1 and a specific activity of 0.122 mA cm Pt −2 at 0.90 V vs. RHE in 0.1 M HClO 4 solution. Furthermore, the Pt 3 Co/H-TiN-C nanoreactor enables an effective four-electron transfer pathway with high selectivity and low H 2 O 2 yield (less than 3%) toward ORR process. After accelerated durability tests, the half-wave potential of Pt 3 Co/H-TiN-C shows a decay of only 24 mV after 10,000 cycles, markedly smaller than Pt/C catalyst (74 mV). The enhanced durability and ORR kinetics of Pt 3 Co/H-TiN-C are attributed to the synergistic effect of strain effect in PtCo alloy, strong interactions between PtCo and H-TiN-C, and nanoreactor architecture. These features not only regulate the Pt electronic structure, increasing the Pt 0 content, but also expose more accessible active sites on the outer/inner surfaces to accelerate charge/mass transport. Moreover, alloyed Co atom suppress the dissolution of Pt, endowing an improved durability. This work provides a new strategy for designing efficient and durable Pt-based ORR catalysts for PEMFCs.
