Magnetic metal modified carbon-based composites synthesized through chemical methods have shown great potential in the field of electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption. Biomass-derived carbon, as an alternative to traditional carbon sources, has better economic and environmental benefits. In this work,we embedded magnetic iron ions in dried agaric through multi-effect adsorption and obtained ripple-like Fe/C composites after high-temperature annealing. The effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of Fe/C composites can reach 6.3 GHz (11.5–17.8 GHz) at 2.5 mm, achieving broadband electromagnetic response. The excellent performance can be attributed to the ripple-like carbon, which enhances the transmission path of EMW in the absorber. On the other hand, the uniform loading of Fe nanoparticles on biomass-derived carbon promotes the interface polarization and dipole polarization and coordinates the impedance matching of the composites. This study provides a reference for the design and construction of efficient biomass-derived magnetic carbon-based absorbers.

The Fe-doped Ni 2 P/Fe-SBA-15 was prepared by the temperature programmed reduction method at a relative low temperature of 673 K. The effect of Fe on the catalytic performance for benzofuran (BF) hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) and dibenzothiophene (DBT) hydrodesulfurization (HDS) were investigated. The catalysts were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), N 2 adsorption-desorption, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), temperature-programmed desorption of ammonia (NH 3 -TPD), and transmission electron microscope (TEM) and CO uptakes. The results indicate the incorporation of Fe into SBA-15 contributes to the exposure of smaller Ni 2 P particles (5.6 nm) with an uniform dispersion, along with enhancement of weak and medium acid strengths . Compared with Ni 2 P/SBA-15, the Fe-doped Ni 2 P/Fe-SBA-15 exhibited a much higher BF conversion of 91.7% with an improved total deoxygenated product yield of 83.3%. The excellent HDO performance of Ni 2 P/Fe-SBA-15 can be ascribed to the exposure of highly-dispersed smaller Ni 2 P particles. Meanwhile, the improved dehydration of 2-EtPh to EB and the high deoxygenated product selectivity can be attributed to the enhanced acidity. As compared to the Ni 2 P/SBA-15, the Fe-doped Ni 2 P/Fe-SBA-15 showed a higher DBT HDS activity of 96.3% with the BP formation at a great proportion of 90.3%, indicating that DBT was mainly transformed through the desulfurization pathway during HDS.

Trimethoprim is a pollutant ubiquitous in the environment due to its extensive application, and it cannot be effectively removed by conventional wastewater treatment processes . In this study, the Fenton and the Fe(II)-activated persulfate processes were employed to degrade trimethoprim in an aqueous solution. The results showed that the concentration of persulfate, H 2 O 2 and Fe(II) a had significant influence on the degradation of trimethoprim in both processes. De-ionized water spiked with trimethoprim resulted in the complete degradation of trimethoprim (0.05 mM) by the mineralization of 54.9% of Fenton's reagent when the concentrations of H 2 O 2 and Fe(II) were 1 mM and 0.05 mM, respectively. In contrast, 73.4% of trimethoprim was degraded by the mineralization of 40.5% of the Fe(II)-activated persulfate process when the concentration of persulfate and Fe(II) were each 4 mM. Intermediate compounds with different m / z were detected for the Fenton and the Fe(II)-activated persulfate processes, indicating alternative degradation pathways. In the actual wastewater spiked with trimethoprim, the removal efficiency of trimethoprim decreased to 35.8% and 43.6%, respectively, for the Fenton and the Fe(II)-activated persulfate processes. In addition, the decomposition efficiencies for hydrogen peroxide and persulfate were 43.8% and 92.5%, respectively, which was lower than those in the de-ionized water system. These results demonstrated that wastewater components had a negative influence on trimethoprim degradation and the decomposition of the oxidants (persulfate and H 2 O 2 ). In summary, the Fe(II)-activated persulfate process could be used as an alternative technology for treating trimethoprim-containing wastewater.

The present study reported a novel Fe-Ag/GAC catalyst and investigated its catalytic activity for the degradation of Acid Red 73 by persulfate. The results of characterization of Fe-Ag/GAC showed that Nano-Ag was supported uniformly on GAC with high degree of crystallinity and Fe distributed mostly in the forms of noncrystalline FeO/Fe 3 O 4 or FeOOH. The presence of catalyst greatly enhanced the removal rate of AR 73, and it was found that 99% of decolorization efficiency and 84.1% of total organic carbon removal (TOC) of AR 73 could be obtained at the neutral pH within 60 min, respectively. The optimized experiments found that either higher temperature or higher dosage of Fe-Ag/GAC or Na 2 S 2 O 8 was favored for the degradation of Acid Red 73. Lowering solution pH could improve the degradation rate of AR 73. The recycling test indicated that the catalyst was relatively stable, showing a promising application.

In this experiment, ZSM-5 molecular sieves are prepared by hydrothermal synthesis and modified by impregnation with Fe, La, and Ce loading. X-ray diffraction, X-ray photon-electron spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy show that Fe, La, and Ce elements are successfully loaded onto the surface of the material, and the surface area of Fe-La-Ce-ZSM-5 is 241.66 m 2 g −1 . A systematic study on the adsorption of Congo red solution is carried out using Fe-La-Ce-ZSM-5 molecular sieves and it is found through the adsorption data that the adsorption process is more in line with Langmuir and the proposed second-order kinetic model, and the theoretical saturated adsorption capacity is 2669.19 mg g −1 . The adsorption process is recycled four times and still has more than 60 % removal performance for high-concentration Congo red solution. The results of this experiment show that Fe-La-Ce-ZSM-5 molecular sieves show excellent removal performance for Congo red dye in wastewater.

Water electrolysis holds the promise of transforming electric-power into hydrogen energy through a carbon free process and its widespread application highly depends on anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) efficiency. Transition metal-based OER catalysts meet the requirements of long-term development for cost effectiveness, and their performance can be improved by a variety of band electronic structure modulating methods. Herein, a multihybridization strategy is proposed, i.e., p-d, s-sp , and d-d hybridization are emphasized together, which guides the design of an effective vanadium (V), boron (B)-FeNiP catalyst. Density functional theory analysis reveals the existence of multihybridization and the difference between Fe and Ni in terms of hybridization strength, band configuration, and interfacial charge transfer. Specially, Fe and Ni sites are simultaneously optimized to their highest performance upon the dual B, V incorporation. As a result, the VB-FeNiP catalyst displays outstanding OER performance, regarding a Tafel slope of 57.64 mV dec −1 , an overpotential of 175 mV at 100 mA cm −2 , and exceptional stability. Here the synergistic effect of multihybridization in the design of transition metal-based catalysts is highlighted and the work in pursuit of effective way based on regulating band configuration to developing high performance OER catalysts would be evoked.

Fe-doped BiOCl (Fe-BiOCl) hierarchical microspheres were successfully prepared by using a simple one-step solvothermal approach. The Fe-BiOCl hierarchical microspheres were analyzed by XRD, IR, SEM, XPS, TEM, etc. The analyses confirmed that impurity levels were successfully introduced into the band gap of BiOCl through Fe doping, leading to a decrease in the band gap and an expansion of the light absorption range to the visible region. Moreover, the separation and transfer of photogenerated carriers were more effectively promoted by Fe doping, resulting in a substantially elevated photocatalytic performance of BiOCl. After 40 min of dark adsorption and 60 min of photocatalysis, the removal efficiency of the prepared Fe-BiOCl-3 for methylene blue reached 93.5%, and the degradation reaction was accorded with a first-order kinetic law. After 5 cycles of photodegradation, Fe-BiOCl-3 still maintained its high photocatalytic ability, indicating that it had a certain degree of reusability. The active species capture experiment demonstrated that •O2– and •OH played a predominant role during the photocatalytic degradation process. Combined with the active species capture experiment, the photocatalytic degradation mechanism of Fe-BiOCl-3 was put forward.

An extensive experimental study of trivalent iron (Fe3+) ions in orthorhombic lithium gallate nanocrystals was undertaken. Various spectroscopic methods, such as Raman spectroscopy, extended X-ray absorption fine structure, the Mössbauer effect, electron paramagnetic resonance, photoluminescence, thermoluminescence, and cathodoluminescence were used to investigate the synthesized phosphor. This study revealed the existence of multiple Fe3+sites, out of which the tetrahedral sites are preferentially occupied. Extensive optical studies showed that the Fe3+doped lithium gallate phosphor is a promising candidate for various luminescence and thermoluminescence-related applications in the near-infrared regime.

Due to the fact that not all eutrophic lakes have cyanobacteria blooms, we hypothesized Fe may be another important limiting factor which regulates cyanobacteria bloom formation. We tested the hypothesis by batch cultures of bloom-forming Cyanobacterium,Microcystis aeruginosawith different ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA)-Fe concentrations (0.5–6.0 mg/L), three levels of initial biomass, and excessive N and P (N = 4.2 mg/L, P = 0.186 mg/L) to simulate dynamically a cyanobacteria bloom in eutrophic conditions. The effect of EDTA and Fe uptake kinetics byM. aeruginosawere also examined. Results showedM. aeruginosagrowth rate positively correlated with EDTA-Fe concentration and negatively correlated with biomass. Maximal biomass ofM. aeruginosawas determined by Fe availability and initial biomass. EDTA could decrease both Fe availability and toxicity. Based on experimental results, a conceptual model of how Fe availability regulates cyanobacterial biomass in eutrophic lakes was developed. This study demonstrated bioavailable Fe is a potential limiting factor in eutrophic lakes that should be included in eutrophication management strategies. Keywords:Microcystis;eutrophication control;freshwater;Fe availability

In this work, the insulating SiO2 was coated successfully on the surface of reduced iron particles by a sol-gel method to decrease the core loss at low frequency. The scanning electron microscope images and elements analysis confirm that the surface of iron powders particles were covered by a thin insulating layer in the form of uniform core-shell structure. The samples were annealed at 400 °C in N2 atmosphere to obtain better magnetic properties. The annealed SMCs with 10 mL/h dropping rate of TEOS have optimum magnetic properties with low core loss Ps of 280.89 W/kg and high saturation magnetic flux density Bs of 1.038 T at 1000 Hz.

A high-efficient iron-based heterogeneous catalyst is desired to active peroxymonosulfate (PMS). Due to a large catalytic contribution of atomically dispersed Fe-N x sites, single-atom iron–nitrogen-carbon catalysts exhibit superior performance in the catalytic activation of PMS. Herein, a sequence of Fe-N-C SACs with atomically dispersed Fe-N x sites, Fe SA -N-C and Fe SA -N/C, were prepared from Fe-doped ZIF-8 and FePc@ZIF-8, respectively. Single-atom Fe-N x sites were confirmed to be the main active sites for PMS activation. Fe SA -N/C-20 with a higher density of Fe-N x sites exhibited superior catalytic performance to N/C, Fe SA -N-C, Fe SA -N/C-15, and Fe SA -N/C-25 for BPA degradation. Integrated with chemical quenching experiments, electron spin resonance (ESR), in-situ Raman spectra, and electrochemical analysis, a nonradical pathway was demonstrated to dominate the degradation of BPA in the PMS + Fe SA -N/C-20 system. More importantly, the nature of this nonradical pathway was found to be an electron-transfer regime instead of a high-valent iron or singlet oxygenation process. The BPA was adsorbed onto the Fe-N x site by a “donor–acceptor complex” mechanism to form a nonradical PMS* intermediate during the process. Benefiting from this mechanism, the PMS + Fe SA -N/C-20 system showed wide pH adaptation and high resistance to inorganic anions.

Iron-based catalysts are widely used in peroxysulfate-based AOPs but suffering from low catalytic performance at neutral pH conditions, which limits the application in groundwater remediation. Herein, this study investigated the efficacy, mechanism and long-term durability of Fe-doped nitrogen carbon (Fe@NC) armor catalysts toward peroxysulfate activation for the degradation of anthropogenic phenolics (APs) in groundwater matrices. The results showed that nonradical activation of Oxone (i.e., HSO 5 – ) was obtained over the as-prepared Fe-3 % @NC-700 catalyst, high-valent Fe species ( Fe(IV) O) and 1 O 2 were identified as the dominant reactive species for the efficient degradation of APs by experiments and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Notably, the DFT results indicated that HSO 5 – was favorably adsorbed on the Fe atoms owing to the electrostatic interaction, which transformed exothermically into SO 4 2– and 1 O 2 over Fe 3 C, accompanied by the generation of Fe(IV) O. Additionally, the Fe-3 % @NC-700 catalyst displayed long-term activity for in situ activation of Oxone in groundwater matrices without pH adjustment, resulting in ΔAPs: ΔOxone stoichiometry efficiencies at 4.2–5.0 % . Wheat seeds germination tests revealed that the biotoxicity of the treated water was reduced notably by the present catalytic system, which holds large potential application in treatment of APs-contaminated groundwater.
