Synergistically Boosting the Surface Reaction Dynamics by K+ Interstitial Doping in Pd/WO3 Nanosheets for Robust Hydrogen Sensing

He-Jie Wang,Hao-Nan Chen,Xuan-Yu Yang,Fei-Long Gong,Ke-Feng Xie,Shi-Zhong Wei,Yong-Hui Zhang

The development of highly sensitive and reliable hydrogen detection technology is a critical prerequisite for the safe and large-scale application of green hydrogen energy. Pd-based metal oxide semiconductor sensors exhibit decent sensing performance; however, their development for hydrogen detection is hindered by competitive adsorption of hydrogen and oxygen on the surface and sluggish reaction kinetics due to limited active interfaces. Here, a series of Pd nanoparticle-decorated, K+ interstitial doping WO3 nanosheets (PdNP-K/WO3-x) were synthesized. The optimized PdNP-K/WO3-15 sample exhibited exceptional H2 sensing performance, including a high response (Ra/Rg = 1235.94 to 50 ppm H2) at a low temperature of 130 °C, with fast response/recovery. This enhancement stems from synergistic effects where K+ interstitial doping increases electron density and oxygen vacancies in WO3, improving charge transfer and strengthening the W-O-Pd interface. The resulting electron-rich environment also shifts the d-band center of Pd, enhancing hydrogen desorption and spillover, while reducing competitive oxygen adsorption to free up more Pd active sites. The material also showed promising room-temperature sensing, indicating strong application potential and providing a theoretical basis for designing high-performance alkali metal ion-doped metal oxide materials.

Solubility Measurement of the Solid Solution Containing the RbCl–CsCl–H2O System from T = 298.15 to 348.15 K

Lijiang Guo,Hongxia Li

The solubility of the RbCl–CsCl–H2O ternary system has been investigated at the temperature range from 298.15 to 348.15 K by two different methods, namely, the Flow-Cloud-Point (FCP) method and the Isothermal Dissolve Equilibrium (IDE) method. The measured solubility for this ternary system at 298.15 K by FCP method is consistent with the reported result in literature. The measured solubility results for this ternary system at 323.15 K by the FCP and IDE, two different methods that are consistent with each other, which indicated the results are more reliable. Meanwhile, the measured liquid–wet solid–solid lines proved that the equilibrium solid phases are two types of solid solutions (Rb,Cs)Cl(ss) and (Cs,Rb)Cl(ss) rather than pure salts (RbCl and CsCl) reported in literature. For the first time, the solubility of the RbCl–CsCl–H2O ternary system at 308.15 and 348.15 K has been measured by IDE method. The measured results shown that the equilibrated solid phases in this ternary system at 308.15 and 348.15 K are two types of solid solution (Rb,Cs)Cl(ss) and (Cs,Rb)Cl(ss), at RbCl rich side and CsCl rich side, respectively.

Molecular insight into Al2O3 catalysts for blast furnace gas purification: K coordination and hierarchical pore enhanced COS hydrolysis

Yuting Lin,Yuran Li,Shining Wang,Jianshan Wang,Yanbin Cui,Tingyu Zhu

Blast furnace gas as a vital secondary energy in iron and steel industry, necessitates efficient removal of carbonyl sulfide (COS) to realize clean high-value utilization. However, conventional Al 2 O 3 catalysts suffer from low hydrolytic activity and poor sulfur resistance, limiting their industrial application. This work systematically elucidates the mechanisms of K coordination and hierarchical pore on COS hydrolysis. EXAFS and DFT reveal that appropriate K doping induces highly dispersed K species with four-coordinated K species featuring K-O-Al bonds, which increase the electron cloud density of O atom in surface hydroxyl groups (-OH) and significantly enhance the COS conversion by over 50%. For hierarchical pore catalysts, the introduction of expanding agent breaks the dense stacking of alumina particles, exposes more Al atoms and increases [AlO 6 ] coordination content, which synergistically enriches active -OH sites. More importantly, the interconnected hierarchical porous channels accelerate gaseous H 2 S desorption and effectively mitigate surface sulfur deposition, enabling the catalysts to maintain over 90% COS conversion for 8 h. This work provides atomic-level insights into K coordination and hierarchical pore, offering a rational strategy for designing high-efficiency and sulfur-resistant COS hydrolysis catalysts for blast furnace gas purification.

Pyrolysis-tuned carbon nitride with synergistic K-bridged channels and vacancies for boosting H2O2 production and tetracycline degradation

Dan Zhang,Lu Zhang,Xiaodong Ma,Zhiyuan Chen,Tinggang Ma,Ye Wang,Wenxiang Tang

Carbon nitride (CN), a promising polymeric semiconductor and photocatalyst, exhibits photocatalytic activity that is notably influenced by the synthesis temperature. In this work, a series of I, K co-doped carbon nitrides (KICNT) were fabricated under various pyrolysis temperature (450, 500, 550, 600 and 650 °C) conditions and an N2 atmosphere, which were then subsequently applied to catalytic hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) production and tetracycline (TC) degradation. Both oxygen adsorption capacity and photocatalytic activity exhibited an initial increase followed by a decline with rising pyrolysis temperature. The KICN600 sample simultaneously exhibits the highest photocatalytic activity for both H2O2 production and photodegradation capability for TC. KICN600 achieved a H2O2 yield of 4382.1 μmol L−1 via a two-step oxygen reduction process in air after 2 h and 11 013.8 μmol L−1 under an oxygen atmosphere and visible light irradiation. Furthermore, the TC degradation over this state-of-the-art KICN600 photocatalyst can reach 83.9% within only 2 h under ambient air conditions. The characterizations results showed that the exceptional photocatalytic activity of KICN600 can be attributed to the high concentration of K-bridged channels and abundant carbon vacancies. These structural features collectively enhance the oxygen reduction capability and charge carrier separation efficiency.

The synthesis of higher alcohols from CO2 hydrogenation over Mn-Cu-K modified Fe5C2 and CuZnAlZr tandem catalysts

Huang Jiamin,Zhang Guanghui,Wang Mingrui,Zhu Jie,Ding Fanshu,Song Chunshan,Guo Xinwen

The catalytic production of higher alcohols (HAs) is a promising path for converting CO2 into value-added chemical products. The application is still limited by the low selectivity of HAs (less than 10%) on most catalysts. Here, we report a tandem catalyst consisting of Mn-Cu-K modified iron carbide and CuZnAlZr catalyst. The modification of iron carbide with Mn, Cu and K promoters improves the formation of HAs (13.5% Sel.), and the construction of tandem catalysts with CuZnAlZr can further enhance the catalytic performance. By examining different catalyst filling methods and the filling ratio of the tandem catalyst, it was found that the powder mixing resulted in a higher selectivity of HAs with a mass ratio of the two components of 1:1, and a synergistic effect leads to a higher selectivity of HAs (15.5%) with about 40% of propanol and butanol among HAs.

Evolution of “adsorption–insertion” K+ storage behaviors in flower-like carbons with tunable heteroatom doping and graphitic structures

Wenrui Wei,Haoran Lv,Xuehui Wang,Wenzhe Zhang,Zining Sun,Jing Shi,Minghua Huang,Shuai Liu,Zhicheng Shi,Huanlei Wang

Expanding the graphitic interlayer spacing and introducing heteroatoms into the carbon structure are the two key strategies for boosting the potassium storage performance. To fundamentally clarify the relation of graphitic structures and heteroatom-doping in carbon with the potassium storage behavior, carbons with diverse heteroatom-doping levels and microstructures (N,S-CNSs) are produced. It has been recognized that the potassium storage mechanism in N,S-CNSs can be described as an “adsorption–insertion” mechanism: the highly disordered/pseudo-graphitic carbon structure with rich defective sites contributing to a high-potential sloping region by “adsorption” and the graphitic carbon structure contributing to a low-potential plateau region by “insertion”. By tuning the “adsorption” and “insertion” mechanisms, N,S-CNS-1200 with a highly developed graphitic structure can provide a satisfactory reversible specific capacity of ∼300 mA h g−1 at 0.05 A g−1 with a high initial coulombic efficiency of 44.9%, a high “insertion” capacity contribution of 57.9%, and a high capacity retention ratio of 81.9% after 1000 cycles. Moreover, kinetic analysis and ex situ XRD studies show that the kinetic diffusion of K+ in N,S-CNS-1200 is more advantageous. This work clearly clarifies the pivotal role of tuning the heteroatom doping and graphitic structure of carbons for realizing highly accessible graphitic structures for advanced potassium ion batteries.

K+-Responsive Crown Ether-Based Amphiphilic Copolymer: Synthesis and Application in the Release of Drugs and Au Nanoparticles

Xiao Wang,Xianghong Zheng,Xinyu Liu,Birong Zeng,Yiting Xu,Conghui Yuan,Lizong Dai

Due to unique chelating and macrocyclic effects, crown ether compounds exhibit wide application prospects. They could be introduced into amphiphilic copolymers to provide new trigger mode for drug delivery. In this work, new amphiphilic random polymers of poly(lipoic acid-methacrylate-co-poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate-co-N-isopropylacrylamide-co-benzo-18-crown-6-methacrylamide (abbrev. PLENB) containing a crown ether ring and disulphide bond were synthesized via RAFT polymerization. Using the solvent evaporation method, the PLENB micelles were formed and then used to load substances, such as doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX) and gold nanoparticles. The results showed that PLENB exhibited a variety of lowest critical solution temperature (LCST) in response to the presence of different ions, such as K+, Na+and Mg2+. In particular, the addition of 150 mM K+increased the LCST of PLENB from 31 to 37 °C and induced the release of DOX from the PLENB@DOX assemblies with a release rate of 99.84% within 12 h under 37 °C. However, Na+and Mg2+ions could not initiate the same response. Furthermore, K+ions drove the disassembly of gold aggregates from the PLENB-SH@Au assemblies to achieve the transport of Au NPs, which is helpful to construct a K+-triggered carrier system. Keywords:crown ether;amphiphilic copolymers;K+-triggered;Au NPs;disassembly

High-Performance and Low-Power Polycrystalline MoTe2 Thin Film Transistors with Solution-Processed Ternary Oxide High-k Dielectric

Yuan Liu,Xiaokun Wen,Wenyu Lei,Li Yang,Pengzhen Zhang,Yuhui Zhang,Haixin Chang,Wenfeng Zhang

Besides the widely investigated potential as alternative to silicon in microelectronics, semiconducting 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) also show appealing prospects in thin film transistors (TFTs)-based applications, while still suffer from insufficient demonstration. Herein, the authors systematically report high-performance and low-power chemical vapor deposition-grown polycrystalline molybdenum ditelluride (MoTe 2 ) TFTs with solution-processed ternary Hf 0.5 Zr 0.5 O 2 /HfAlO 2 high-k dielectric. Benefitting from the optimized high quality HfAlO 2 film synthesis and proper postannealing treatment, the constructed MoTe 2 TFTs exhibit a high mobility ≈27.24 cm 2 V −1 S −1 , a current on/off ratio ≈6.43 × 10 5 , threshold voltage ≈−3.27 V, and subthreshold swing (SS) value ≈152.4 mV dec −1 , respectively. Moreover, by supplementing another solution-processed layer of ferroelectric Hf 0.5 Zr 0.5 O 2 to form double layer of HfAlO 2 /Hf 0.5 Zr 0.5 O 2 dielectric, the device performance can be further improved with an ignorable hysteresis, increased mobility of ≈55.53 cm 2 V −1 S −1 , and significantly reduced SS value of ≈110.16 mV dec −1 , respectively. The current investigation offers a feasible strategy to fabricate high-performance and low-power MoTe 2 TFTs for potential TMDs-based TFTs applications.

MOF derived Co9S8 nanoparticles embedded in 3D N-doped carbon matrix for high-performance K-ion battery anode

Yueyue Ma,Mengqi Wu,Ling Li,Zhanyu Li,Xiaohui Zhao,Ruqian Lian,Wenming Zhang

In this work, we synthesized a three-dimensional porous nitrogen-doped carbon composite with a uniform dispersion of MOF-derived Co 9 S 8 nanoparticles (3D Co 9 S 8 @NPC) via a simple template method combining with in situ high temperature pyrolysis. As K-ion battery anode, the 3D Co 9 S 8 @NPC exhibits a high specific capacity of 315 mA h g −1 at 0.1 A g −1 after 200 cycles, as well as a capacity of 223 mA h g −1 at 1 A g −1 after 1000 cycles, which is superior to the performance of KIB metal sulfide-based anode materials reported previously. The excellent performance is attributed to more pore structure and active sites in 3D Co 9 S 8 @NPC, which reduce efficiently K + diffusion length and accelerate the insertion/extraction of K + . The 3D N-doped carbon matrix also speeds up electron transport and buffers the volume expansion of Co 9 S 8 . Moreover, density functional theory (DFT) calculations demonstrate that due to the small energy change of K ion on Co 9 S 8 surface, the 3D Co 9 S 8 @NPC electrode is expected to show ideal rate capability in the K-ion battery system. This work provides ideas to craft other 3D structure anodes towards high-performance metal-ion batteries.

Wide band gap thiophosphates ASrPS4 (A = Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs): cation size effect induced successive structural transformation

Yi Huang,Junben Huang,Yong Zhang

Metal thiophosphates have aroused much research interest due to their structural chemistry and possible applications as infrared functional materials. In this study, five quaternary Sr-based alkali metal thiophosphates ASrPS4 (A = Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs) were obtained. Their structural comparison shows that their symmetry undergoes transformation from tetragonal (I41/acd) to monoclinic (P21/c) to orthorhombic (Pnma) system, which is induced by the cation size effects and coordination features of different alkali metal cations. The experimental and theoretical results demonstrate that the band gaps of all title compounds are large, namely 3.6–3.9 eV (experimental results) and 3.78–4.12 eV (HSE06). Theoretical analyses indicate that the [PS4] group could be regarded as a good unit for designing wide band gap compounds, and the birefringence of NaSrPS4 is 0.08 at the fundemental 1064 nm wavelength, which shows that it may be a potential infrared birefringent material.

Unraveling the Key Atomic Interactions in Determining the Varying Li/Na/K Storage Mechanism of Hard Carbon Anodes

Qi Li,Jun Zhang,Lixiang Zhong,Fushan Geng,Ying Tao,Chuannan Geng,Shuzhou Li,Bingwen Hu,Quan-Hong Yang

Hard carbons have been identified as competitive anodes for Li/Na/K-ion batteries but their Li/Na/K-ion storage mechanisms significantly vary in different batteries. It is fundamental to understand the basic science behind the difference. Herein, it is theoretically revealed that defects on the carbon layers generally have an influential impact on the atomic interactions including the metal–metal (M–M) and metal–carbon (M–C) interactions, thereby determining whether the stored alkali-metal atoms are in ionic or quasi-metallic states. Upon increasing the number of metal atoms on a carbon layer composed of only hexatomic rings, K tends to be stored in an ionic state similar to Li due to the dominant M–C interaction, while on a carbon layer with defects, K tends to be stored in a quasi-metallic state similar to Na due to the dominant M–M interaction. For experimental verification, a glassy carbon, the extreme form of hard carbon with dominant sp 2 hybridization and only Stone–Wales defects, is selected as a model anode, and its Li/Na/K-ion storage mechanisms are exactly consistent with the theoretical prediction. More profoundly, for the first time, the quasi-metallic K cluster information is captured by ex situ electron paramagnetic resonance.

An efficient far-red emission Sr2InSbO6:Mn4+, M (M = Li+, Na+, and K+) phosphors for plant cultivation LEDs

Yan Xie,Xue Geng,Yuan Wang,Jiang Guo,Yuhui Lu,Qiuyi Lv,Zhijiang Ma,Dan zhang,Jin Zhao,Bin Deng,Ruijin Yu

High-efficiency and far-red light phosphors based on Mn 4+ -doped inorganic luminescence materials are beneficial to plant cultivation. However, Mn 4+ -doped oxide phosphors have a common problem of low quantum efficiency. Alkali metal ion codoping can effectively improve the luminescence properties of Mn 4+ -activated oxide phosphors. Herein, a series of Sr 2 InSbO 6 :Mn 4+ , M (SISO:Mn 4+ , M) (M = Li + , Na + , and K + ) far-red-emitting phosphors codoped alkali metal ions were first synthesized. Density functional theory calculation indicated that SISO is a kind of indirect bandgap material with a bandgap of ∼1.60 eV. The SISO:Mn 4+ samples showed a far-red light at 698 nm upon 365 nm, which perfectly matched the absorption spectrum of the far-red-phytochrome (Pfr) of plants. The doping concentration of the SISO:Mn 4+ samples was optimized to be 0.006 mol. The concentration quenching mechanism was defined as dipole–dipole interaction by combining the Dexter theory and the Inokuti–Hirayama model. Optimizing the sintering temperature and codoped with alkali metal ions (Li + , Na + , and K + ) could improve the luminescent intensity of SISO:Mn 4+ . The optimum sintering temperature was 1300°C. The internal quantum efficiencies of SISO:0.006Mn 4+ and SISO:0.006Mn 4+ , 0.006Li + phosphors are 22.67% and 60.56%, respectively. SISO:Mn 4+ , Li + phosphors-based plant growth light-emitting diodes (LEDs) demonstrate excellent optical stability and long lifetime. Thus, these phosphors are promising candidates for plant cultivation LEDs.
