Graphical Like peas in a pod: Novel tin nanoparticles encapsulated in carbon nanotubes (TNEC) arrays on carbon cloth is prepared by a facile carbon reduction route as a flexible anode for lithium-ions batteries, which shows a high areal capacity (2.15 mAh cm −2 ) and cycling stability. With the development of flexible electronic devices, the research on flexible storage devices has received considerable attention. In this paper, we designed novel tin nanoparticles encapsulated in carbon nanotubes (TNEC) arrays on carbon cloth prepared by a facile carbon reduction route as a flexible anode for lithium-ion batteries. The TNEC electrode shows a high areal capacity (2.15 mAh cm −2 ) when the current density is 0.1 mA cm −2 , Meanwhile, a good cycling performance (84 % of initial capacity) is achieved after 80 charge–discharge cycles, which could be attributed to the high theoretical capacity of metal tin and the tin encapsulated in carbon nanotubes structure that improves the electrical conductivity and structure stability.

A Ti/Sb–SnO2 electrode modified with titanium nitride (TiN) nanoparticles was prepared by the pulse electro-codeposition method. X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy show that compared with Ti/Sb–SnO2, the Ti/Sb–SnO2–TiN electrode has a small unit cell volume of tetragonal SnO2 and a refined, compact particle film. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis shows that introducing titanium nitride nanoparticles facilitates the formation of Sb5+. And the adsorbed hydroxyl oxygen species content of Ti/Sb–SnO2–TiN (43.07%) is higher than that of Ti/Sb–SnO2 (21.85%), indicating that the Ti/Sb–SnO2–TiN electrode has more active sites for electrochemical oxidation of organic pollutants. In 0.25 M Na2SO4 solution, the charge transfer resistance of Ti/Sb–SnO2–TiN (150 ohm) is much smaller than that of Ti/Sb–SnO2 (1334 ohm). With a constant current density of 100 mA cm−2, the accelerated service lifetime of Ti/Sb–SnO2–TiN is improved significantly, which is 15.7 times as long as that of Ti/Sb–SnO2. The Ti/Sb–SnO2–TiN electrode is demonstrated to have a prominent ability for oxidative decolorization of methylene blue. The results also confirm that the Ti/Sb–SnO2–TiN electrode has a higher decolorization efficiency and kinetic rate constant, which are 1.54 and 3.24 times as efficient as those of Ti/Sb–SnO2, respectively.

Ion migration poses a substantial challenge in perovskite transistors, exerting detrimental effects on hysteresis and operational stability. This study focuses on elucidating the influence of ion migration on the performance of tin-based perovskite field-effect transistors (FETs). It is revealed that the high background carrier density in FASnI 3 FETs arises not only from the oxidation of Sn 2+ but also from the migration of FA + ions. The formation of hydrogen bonding between FA + and F − ions efficiently inhibits ion migration, leading to a reduction in background carrier density and an improvement in the operational stability of the transistors. The strategy of hydrogen bond is extended to fluorine-substituted additives to improve device performance. The incorporation of 4-fluorophenethylammonium iodide additives into FETs significantly minimizes the shift of turn-on voltage during cyclic measurements. Notably, an effective mobility of up to 30 cm 2 V −1 s −1 with an I on/off ratio of 10 7 is achieved. These findings hold promising potential for advancing tin-based perovskite technology in the field of electronics.

The self-assembly of tin dioxide (SnO2) porous microspheres was conducted via a surfactant-free one step hydrothermal reaction. The crystalline structure and morphologies of the as-prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results show that the porous microspheres consist of single crystalline SnO2 octahedral nanoparticles approximately 40 nm in width and 60 nm in length, with exposed high index {221} facets. The as-prepared porous nanostructure was used as an anode material for a lithium ion battery, whose cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance, charge–discharge galvanstatic behavior and cycle performance were examined. A highly stable capacity about 690 mA g−1 after 50 cycles at a current density of 500 mA g−1 was achieved, which is much higher than that of non-assembled SnO2 octahedral nanoparticles and irregular SnO2 nanoparticles. The superior electrochemical properties result from the preferable nanostructure, with the pores favorable to the diffusion of electrolyte and providing buffer space for the volume change during alloying and dealloying reactions. Meanwhile, the special crystalline facets of the octahedral nanoparticles can facilitate Li+ ion insertion and extraction.

A conversion-alloy type anode, Sn2P2O7, is a promising candidate for sodium-ion capacitors (SICs) due to its high theoretical capacity, low cost, and nontoxic nature, but suffers from poor conductivity and large volume expansion. Herein, we propose a mild self-assembly strategy that achieves Sn2P2O7 confined by reduced graphene oxide (rGO) as an anode for sodium storage, thereby yielding an impressive specific capacity of 433.3 mA h g−1 at 0.1 A g−1 and exceptional rate capability of 185.7 mA h g−1 at a high current density of 10 A g−1. Notably, ex situ TEM reveals the underlying evolution that Sn2P2O7 particles are pulverized into nanodots with stable size as the cycle progresses and the rGO continuously sustains the electron conduction of Sn2P2O7 nanodots after long-term cycling. Quantitative kinetic analysis quantitatively deciphers the dominant role of pseudocapacitance in the sodium storage process. Meanwhile, density functional theory calculations indicate that the interfacial binding between rGO and Sn2P2O7 is dramatically conducive to accelerating electron transfer. The assembled Sn2P2O7/rGO//AC SIC delivers a superior gravimetric energy/power density of 158.3 W h kg−1/2523.3 W kg−1. This work provides a foundation for the structural design of high-rate and long-life tin-based composite oxide anodes.

Rational design of high-performance electrode materials is crucial for enhancing desalination performance of capacitive deionization (CDI). Here, ultrathin nitrogen-doped carbon/Ti 3 C 2 T x -TiN (NC/MX-TiN) heterostructure was developed by pyrolyzing zeolite imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) nanoparticles sandwiched MXene (ZSM), which were formed by assembling ultrafine ZIF-8 nanoparticles with size of 20 nm on both sides of MXene nanosheets. The introduction of ultrasmall ZIF-8 particles allowed for in situ nitridation of the MXene during pyrolysis, forming consecutive TiN layers tightly connected to the internal MXene. The two-dimensional (2D) heterostructure exhibited remarkable properties, including high specific surface area and excellent conductivity. Additionally, the resulting TiN demonstrated exceptional redox capability, which significantly enhanced the performance of CDI and ensured cycling stability. Benefiting from these advantages, the NC/MX-TiN exhibited a maximum adsorption capacity of 45.6 mg g −1 and a steady cycling performance in oxygenated saline water over 50 cycles. This work explores the rational design and construction of MXene-based 2D heterostructure and broadens new horizons for the development of novel CDI electrode materials.

The resistive properties and mechanisms of devices with different structures were investigated by fabricating TiO 2 and Graphene Oxide (GO) films on Indium Tin Oxides (ITO)conductive glass using spin-coating techniques. The results show that our prepared devices can undergo SET/RESET under different voltages and exhibit unique resistive change characteristics. In addition, we found a complementary resistive switching (CRS) behavior in the Al/TiO 2 /GO/ITO structured devices, similar to the memristor which is reverse-series connection of Al/TiO 2 /ITO and Al/GO/ITO. And its resistive behavior is analogous to neuronal firing processes-depolarizing and polarizing behavior. Furthermore, the resistance is modulated by constant voltage and the stimulus gets gradual resistance increase (long-term depression, LTD), and causes progressive resistance decrease (long-term potentiation, LTP). This study provides a reference for the application of the synergistic combination of CRS behavior and tunable resistance states enables a dual-path approach for implementing neuronal and synaptic functionalities in bio-inspired electronics, offering a reference framework for complementary memristor-based bionic neurons that broadens the application scope of Resistive Random Access Memory.

Long-lived 137Cs/134Cs, 60Co, and 63Ni with high-energy β/γ emissions are primary toxic fission/activation products in nuclear-contaminated water, causing irreversible damage to the ecological environment and human health. Rapid remediation of these radionuclides emerges as an urgent task, while the deficiencies in adsorption kinetics, selectivity and acid resistance hinder the material innovation for practical applications. Herein, we have developed a hybrid cadmium/tin selenide adsorbent K3.4(CH3NH3)0.45(NH4)0.15Cd2Sn3Se10·3.4H2O (CdSnSe-2K) for the enrichment and sequestration of Cs+, Co2+, and Ni2+ ions. CdSnSe-2K features a unique open-framework constructed from the interlinkage of T2-{M4Se10} (M = SnIV/CdII) supertetrahedral clusters and M bridges, accelerating the ion transfer in the tunnel system and thus affording quick kinetics (k2 = 9.706, 0.182, 0.099 g mg−1 min−1 for Cs+, Co2+, Ni2+). Remarkably, the removal rate RCs increases to 98.54% in just 2 min and 99.57% in 5 min (equilibrium), which is responsible for an ultra-high distribution coefficient Kd of 2.31 × 105 mL g−1. The soft-Lewis basic Se component endows CdSnSe-2K with a fantastic adsorption selectivity for Cs+, Co2+, and Ni2+ against various coexisting cations and anions in complex actual water environments even including the highly salty sea water medium. CdSnSe-2K exhibits a fantastic acid/base tolerance over pH = 2–13, and the maximum adsorption capacities qCsm, qCom and qNim under neutral condition are 218.08 ± 80.08, 43.95 ± 16.57 and 42.53 ± 16.50 mg g−1, respectively. In addition, CdSnSe-2K single crystals were also employed as the stationary phase for the fabrication of an ion exchange column, which shows an elimination efficiency above 99% in the long-term filtration for Cs+ (8200 BVs), Co2+ (4000 BVs) and Ni2+ (4000 BVs). This work not only highlights CdSnSe-2K as a promising Cs+, Co2+, and Ni2+ scavenger in radionuclide remediation, but also provides a supertetrahedral cluster-based construction strategy for open-framework selenide materials with enhanced adsorption kinetics, selectivity, and acid resistance.

Intrinsically weak metal affinity and sluggish sodium (Na) nucleation/molten fluidic transport of conventional hosts impede the fabrication of high-capacity Na anodes. Mediating surface free energies (SFEs) of hosts and reinforcing their intermolecular attraction to viscous Na fluids can radically solve these problems. Herein, “canaled” tin oxide nanorod arrays grown on a 3D carbon cloth (CC) matrix exhibit distinct polar/nonpolar SFE components that markedly elevate the solid–liquid wettability for molten Na is reported. Such nanocanal defects render strong capillary forces for spontaneous molten Na imbibition and help to instantly activate Na─Sn alloying and Na nucleation reactions. Furthermore, sodiophilic Na 15 Sn 4 interlayers evolved in former alloying procedures also aid in reducing Na nucleation energy barriers and guide the planar electro-deposition/dispersion, alleviating the uncontrolled Na dendrite growth. The derived Na/Na 15 Sn 4 /CC anodes can thus keep stable after 2000 h of galvanostatic cycling at 1 mA cm −2 or high-rate testing, without notable dendritic formation. The packed full cells also show superior rate capability and cyclability (capacity retention over 91.5% after all cycling at 1 C). This work provides a smart nano-engineering way to trigger a fast infusion of molten metals into hosts and synergistically facilitate Na fluidic transport, which may push forward the scalable application of Na metal batteries.

Polyester/cotton (T/C) blend fabrics are highly flammable due to the particular “scaffolding effect,” which limits its application scope. In this work, a polyacrylic acid (PAA) flame-retardant coating was prepared by combining a conventional intumescent flame retardants (IFRs) with a hybrid of graphene and metallic tin (GnPSn) prepared by mechanical forces. The flame retardants were deposited onto the T/C blend fabric by surface coating method, and its flame-retardant and thermal properties were studied. The combined characterization of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and mapping proved that the coating system had been successfully processed to the surface of T/C blend fabrics. The results of limiting oxygen index (LOI) showed that PER-1/GnPSn-4 polyester/cotton blends obtained good flame-retardant properties with LOI of 25.0%. The thermal stability and combustion behavior of the blends before and after impregnation were evaluated by thermogravimetric (TG) and cone calorimetry test (CCT), and the peak heat release rate of PER-1/GnPSn-4 polyester/cotton blends was 51.2% lower than that of Pure Emulsion T/C blend fabrics, with an increase in residual carbon by 16.39%, which indicated that the addition of GnPSn altered the thermal degradation process and suppressed the combustion of the T/C blend fabrics, heat and smoke release during the combustion process. In addition, the results of thermogravimetric-Fourier transform infrared (TG-IR) spectroscopy of the samples showed that the intumescent composite coatings were flame retardant to T/C blended fabrics in both condensed phase and gas phase.

The early and accurate detection of biologically important molecules is vital for biomedical diagnostics and environmental monitoring. However, developing detection platforms that are both sensitive and biocompatible remains a significant challenge. In this work, we synthesized chitosan-functionalized tin oxide (CS/SnO₂) nanocomposites (NCs) using a simple solution-based approach and explored their potential as optical biosensors for cysteine and dihydronicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH). X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed well-defined crystalline peaks with an average crystallite size of ∼14 nm. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) validated the successful incorporation of CS and SnO₂ through characteristic functional groups. UV–Vis spectra showed clear absorbance decreases at 270 and 290 nm, indicating strong interactions between biomolecules and the NCs, attributed to electrostatic attractions, hydrogen bonding, and coordination involving chitosan's amine and hydroxyl groups. The appearance of isosbestic points during spectral changes confirmed stable binding mechanisms. Compared to bare SnO₂ nanoparticles, CS/SnO₂ NCs exhibited significantly higher sensitivity, with a detection limit of 10 μM and a strong linear response in the 10–30 μM range. Overall, these results demonstrate that CS/SnO₂ NCs are a reliable, eco-friendly, and cost-effective platform for biomolecule detection, offering promising applications in bioanalytical and clinical diagnostics.

Monitoring of reactive nitrogen by the Internet of Things (IoT) is urgently needed for sustainable nitrogen management to debilitate ill-health and achieve climate-stable. However, the real-time detection of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) at parts per billion (ppb) levels using a low-temperature chemiresistive gas sensor with high sensitivity and fast response and recovery remains a formidable challenge. In this study, we propose a facile one-step hydrothermal method for substituting nickel into tin selenide (SnSe) nanosheets, which effectively enhances the room temperature (RT) response/recovery speed and sensitivity of SnSe-based sensor toward NO2. The Ni-doped SnSe sensor with a vintage doping ratio exhibits an enhanced absolute response value of 20.06 times (58.99% vs 2.94%) toward 100 ppb NO2, compared to the pristine SnSe sensor, while also demonstrating a remarkable reduction in response/recovery time (10.32 s and 11.88 s vs 112.43 and 111.14 s). Moreover, the Ni-doped SnSe sensor exhibits remarkable selectivity and exceptional response stability. Through density functional theory (DFT) analysis, we demonstrate that the introduction of Ni atoms into the SnSe lattice generates deep impurity energy levels in the band structures, creating more active sites that enhance the interaction between the NO2 molecules and SnSe. Furthermore, these deep impurity energy levels contribute to the ultrafast response/recovery in detecting NO2 using Ni-doped SnSe. Our study presents a straightforward and effective strategy for the development of pollutant gas sensors that exhibit high sensitivity, low power consumption, and fast response/recovery.
