Low coulombic efficiency and poor cyclic stability are two common problems for silicon anodes. Therefore, it is of great significance to improve cycling performance and initial coulombic efficiency (ICE) via rational surface engineering on nano-Si anodes. Herein, a new nano-silicon anode is obtained by straightforward constructing a multifunctional polypyrrole protective layer on the surface of silicon nanoparticles , which is further used as the inner boundary of solid electrolyte interface (SEI) film. Specifically, the Li salt decomposition reaction between the electrolyte and silicon surface is effectively inhibited under the protection of the compact artificial boundary. The transfer of Li + for forming the SEI film is selectively slower than that of lithiation/delithiation reaction. This further reduces the amount of SEI film, leading to a high ICE of 93.2% at 0.5 A g −1 for modified nano-Si anodes. In addition, the flexible SEI precursor combined with the high proportion of organic components in SEIs not only accommodates the volume change of nano-silicon, but also suppresses accumulation of “waste SEI”, so the electrode can maintain a reversible capacity of 1153.2 mAh g −1 at 1 A g −1 after 500 cycles. This work provides important guidance for surface structural optimization of alloy-type anodes with high volume change.

Although Si and graphite (Si/C) composite materials are among the most promising alternative to graphite anode in commercial batteries because of high capacity, the issue of the poor structural and interfacial stability of the composite electrode is extremely challenging. Herein, an interface-adaptive triblock polymer binder that can interact Si and graphite particles to improve the particle affinity and binder spreadability via the supramolecular interactions of π∙∙∙π stacking and hydrogen bonding is presented. The strategy of enhancing the interfacial interactions can further effectively stabilize the electrode interface and minimize the electrode/electrolyte side reactions. Benefiting from this proposed binder, the Si/C anode retains a high reversible capacity (82.1%) after 400 cycles and delivers improved cycling stability even at high areal capacity (4 mAh cm −2 , 0.067% capacity loss/cycle) and in Si/C|LiNi 0.8 Co 0.1 Mn 0.1 O 2 full cell (0.22% capacity loss/cycle). This design strategy for the binder provides a novel path toward high-energy, long-cycling Si/C anodes.

In order to more effectively alleviate the volume extension and shrinkage of the Si anode during Li intercalation/deintercalation processes, and also to improve the electron and ion transport dynamics, carbon coated Si-porous carbon composite fibres with a sandwich structure were prepared using a sacrificial template (ZIF-8) to construct mesoporous carbon, combined with electrospinning technology and subsequent hydrothermal carbon coating. The carbon fibre skeleton and carbon-coated sandwich structure provide support for the volume extension and shrinkage of Si, avoiding Si from directly contacting with the electrolyte, and forming a stable solid electrolyte interphase film. Furthermore, the polyvinylpyrrolidone spinning solution assists ZIF-8 to obtain a mesoporous structure inside the carbon fibre, which improves the specific surface area and pore volume of the composite material. In this case, the mesoporous structure also helps to alleviate the volume extension and shrinkage of Si during the charging /discharging processes and improves the transmission dynamics of lithium ions and electrons. Benefit from the unique structural features, this anode composite material exhibits enhanced electrochemical properties for Li-ion batteries, with a reversible specific capacity of 1114 mAh g −1 at 1 A g −1 , and demonstrates a capacity retention rate of 66% with a specific capacity of 740 mAh g −1 after 400 cycles.

To reduce the coke formation, a novel Al/Si/Cr/Ce composite ceramic coating was prepared on the surface of the Cr 25 Ni 35 Nb alloy substrate by pack cementation. The microstructure, phase composition, surface morphology and element distribution of substrate and coating were characterized by X-ray diffractometer (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The results reveal that the outer layer of the coating forms a protective layer with a high proportion of AlN and Cr 3 Si and trace amounts of Ce. The inter-diffusion layer is mainly aluminide coating (AlNi and AlFe) and transition layer contains a small amount of AlN. The anti-coking performance of the coating was assessed using naphtha steam cracking. To study coking behavior, the morphology and microstructure of the coke layer were analyzed and characterized by SEM and Laser Micro-Raman Spectrometer. The coke layer on uncoated sample has a higher focal density and is more likely to spall and peel off when subjected to coking experiment. A large number of filamentous and granular cokes appear on the surface of the uncoated sample, whereas only less granular cokes appear on the surface of the coated sample, and the coke on the uncoated sample has a more disordered and amorphous carbon structure. The coating significantly inhibited the growth of filamentous coke and reduced coke accumulation.

It is still extremely challenging to endow epoxy resins (EPs) with excellent flame retardancy and high toughness. In this work, we propose a facile strategy of combining rigid–flexible groups, promoting groups and polar phosphorus groups with the vanillin compound, which implements a dual functional modification for EPs. With only 0.22% phosphorus loading, the modified EPs obtain a limiting oxygen index (LOI) value of 31.5% and reach V-0 grade in UL-94 vertical burning tests. Particularly, the introduction of P/N/Si-containing vanillin-based flame retardant (DPBSi) improves the mechanical properties of EPs, including toughness and strength. Compared with EPs, the storage modulus and impact strength of EP composites can increase by 61.1% and 240%, respectively. Therefore, this work introduces a novel molecular design strategy for constructing an epoxy system with high-efficiency fire safety and excellent mechanical properties, giving it immense potential for broadening the application fields of EPs.Keywords:flame retardant;vanillin;epoxy resin;synergistic effect;strength and toughness

The hazardous indoor air pollutants of formaldehyde (HCHO) are harmful for human health. Nowadays, it is important to design and fabricate green and efficient HCHO removal materials for HCHO removal from polluted indoor air. In this manuscript, cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) as green nanomaterials were successfully surface-initiated by 2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl acetoacetate (MEAA) as functional monomer via surface-initiated Activator Generated by Electron Transfer Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization (SI-AGET ATRP) for the application in removal of HCHO. The employment of CNCs/Poly(2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl acetoacetate) (CNCs@PMEAA) as nanocomposites were further implanted self-healing waterborne coating for an effective way to remove HCHO. From the result, the HCHO removal efficiency reached 97.5% of CNCs@PMEAA-type coating within 300 min at room temperature , which was much higher than that of the conventional coating (82.8%). This study provides some promising green methods for designing nanocomposite's waterborne coating to remove HCHO at room temperature.

With the soaring development of device integration, miniaturization, and high frequency, electric devices have put forward synchronous and urgent requirements for thermal management composites with insulation, high thermal conductivity (TC), and low dielectric properties. However, due to phonon scattering and interfacial polarization, these performance requirements are difficult to meet simultaneously. In this work, based on the principles of interfacial engineering, hexagonal boron nitride (BN) was functionalized with methylvinyldimethoxysilane (MVDMS), and poly(phenylene oxide) (PPO) was modified by methacrylic anhydride. Owing to the introduction of reactive groups, the reaction between modified BN (BN@Si) and modified PPO (MPPO) in the mixing process enhances the interfacial forces, improves filler dispersions, and helps to reduce phonon scattering and interfacial polarization. The resulting polymer composites have a high TC of 5.21 W/(m K) at 70 wt % filler loading, 20.7 times than that of the pure MPPO resin, low dielectric loss of 0.00252, and high thermal stability. It is shown that interfacial regulation is crucial for BN@Si/poly(phenylene oxide) composites. The obtained composites hold great potential as thermal management materials for 5G electronic devices.

HNTs are modified with DA, C and KH-560 as a flame-retardant filler. • The SDHs are first incorporated into MPCMs to build extra heat transfer channels. • SDH-MPCM/EP coatings significantly reduce indoor temperature fluctuation. • The composite coating reduces HRR and THR, showing excellent flame retardancy. Phase change material microcapsules (MPCMs) effectively address the leakage issue inherent in conventional phase change materials, while enabling efficient thermal energy storage and controlled heat release, thus providing an ideal material foundation for energy-saving building coatings. However, the defects of MPCMs—namely low thermal conductivity and flammability—seriously restrict their widespread application in practical engineering. To overcome these challenges, this study fabricated a novel modified phase change microcapsule (SDH-MPCMs) via in situ polymerization, using capric acid (CA) as the core and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) as the shell. Flame-retardant filler Si/DC-HNTs (SDHs) is incorporated into the system to endow the material with triple functionality: thermal energy storage, flame retardancy, and temperature regulation. The microcapsules are subsequently dispersed into epoxy resin (EP) to fabricate SDH-MPCM/EP composite coatings. Characterization techniques including TEM, XPS, and FTIR confirmed the successful synthesis of SDHs and SDH-MPCMs. When SDH-MPCMs dispersed in the EP, the composite coatings exhibit a 23.57% reduction in peak heat release rate (HRR), a 20.89% decrease in total heat release (THR). Small-scale room model test reveals that the coating reduces indoor temperature fluctuation effectively, enhancing thermal regulation capability. This research advances the development of multifunctional building coating materials by demonstrating a viable approach to simultaneously achieve efficient heat storage, enhanced flame safety, and improved temperature regulation.

Tetravalent Sn species, such as zeolite or oxide, possess Lewis acidic properties, and thus exhibit prominent catalytic performance in several reactions when they are incorporated into the silica framework. Unfortunately, the synthesis of Sn-based zeolite (Sn–Beta) usually suffers from several drawbacks, including a long crystallization time, limited framework Sn content and complex synthesis steps. Sn-based composite oxides are favored in the industry, due to their simple synthesis steps and easy control of their pore structure, morphology and Sn content. In this work, an aerosol-assisted method is used to prepare Sn–Si composite oxide microspheres, using CTAB as template. The method is based on the formation of aerosol from a solution of Sn, Si precursors and a template (CTAB). The introduction of CTAB causes the surface tension of the atomized droplets to decrease. During the fast drying of the droplets, the Sn–Si composite oxide microspheres with a concave hollow morphology were first formed. After calcination, calibrated mesopores of 2.3 nm were also formed, with a specific surface area of 1260 m2/g and a mesopores ratio of 0.84. Sn species are incorporated in the silica network, mainly in the form of single sites. The resulting material proved to exhibit high catalytic performances in the Baeyer–Villiger oxidation of 2-adamantanone by using H2O2as green oxidant, which was mainly attributed to the enhancement of the access to the catalytic tin sites through both the continuous hollow and mesopore channels, which have a 52% conversion of 2-adamantanone after 3 h of reaction. This method is simple, convenient, cheap and can be continuously produced, meaning it has broad potential for industrial application. Keywords:aerosol process;Sn–Si composite oxide;hollow mesoporous microspheres;CTAB;Baeyer–Villiger oxidation

Smart surface coatings have been proven to be an effective strategy to significantly enhance the electronic conductivity and cycling stability of silicon-based anode materials. However, the single/conventional coatings face critical challenges, including low initial Coulomb efficiency (ICE), poor cyclability, and kinetics failure, etc. Hence, we proposed a dual immobilization strategy to synthesize graphene supported anatase TiO 2 /carbon-coated porous silicon composite (denoted as PSi@TiO 2 @C/Graphene) using industrial-grade ferrosilicon as lithium storage raw materials through the simple etching, combined with sol–gel and hydrothermal coating processes. In this work, the dual immobilization from the “confinement effect” of the inner TiO 2 shell and the “synergistic effect” of the outer carbon shell, improves the kinetics of the electrochemical reaction and ensures the integrity of the electrode material structure during lithiation. Furthermore, the introduction of the graphene substrate offers ample space for dispersing and anchoring the Si-based granules, which in turn provides a stable 3D conductive network between the particles. As a result, the PSi@TiO 2 @C/Graphene electrode delivers high reversible capacity of 1605.4 mAh g −1 with 93.65% retention at 0.5 A g −1 after 100 cycles (vs. 4th discharge), high initial Coulomb efficiency (82.30%), and superior cyclability of 1159.9 mAh g −1 after 250 cycles. The above results suggest that the particle structure has great potential for applications in Si-based anode and may provide some inspiration for the design of other energy storage materials.

The photoassisted electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) toward CO is considered one of the most promising routes of CO2 utilization. In this work, 2,6-diaminopyridine (2,6-DAP) with both the pyridine ring and the –NH2 functional group is utilized for the first time to functionalize the surface of the electrode. The p-Si/Ag/2,6-DAP electrode has been identified as a good catalyst with relatively high activity and CO selectivity at a low overpotential as well as good stability. The Faradaic efficiency of CO is 84.56% at an optimized potential of −0.9 V vs reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE). A synergistic mechanism has been proposed for the enhanced catalytic performance of p-Si/Ag/2,6-DAP in the CO2RR. Ag facilitates the reduction of CO2 to produce CO. 2,6-DAP helps CO2 adsorption and inhibits the competitive hydrogen evolution reaction accompanying the CO2RR under low potentials.

L. monocytogenes (L. m) is one of the most common causes of foodborne diseases. To enable timely monitoring of L. m contamination, a highly efficient and sensitive electrochemical biosensor was developed for the precise determination of L.m . The biosensor was prepared by sequentially modifying glassy carbon electrode (GCE) with silicon methylene blue (Si@MB), gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and aptamer (Apt). Differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) was used to quantify L.m . This biosensor could be finished in 1.5 h, which significantly reduced the detection time. The resulting electrochemical biosensor achieved good linear (10 2 -10 7 CFU/mL) and excellent detection limit of 2.6 CFU/mL. Moreover, the novel strategy has been successfully applied to actual samples, with the recoveries ranging from 84.7% to116.0% in lettuce and from 80.0% to 110% in fresh-cut fruit. This biosensor shows great potential application in monitoring bacterial food contamination and infectious diseases.
