Localized surface plasmon resonance induced excellent solar-shielding ability for TiN nanoparticles-based hybrid polymer optical foils with high transparency

Yijie Zhou,Aibing Huang,Hongjie Luo,Ping Jin

Titanium nitride (TiN), as a representative refractory plasmonic material , can arouse localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) absorption in visible region when its size is reduced to nanometer scale with good dispersion. Herein, a citric acid assisted sol-gel method was introduced to synthesize well-defined TiN nanoparticles which were well dispersed in organic solution and further applied to prepare organic-inorganic optical foils. The color of the hybrid film was not yellow but deep blue owing to the strong absorption peak of TiN nanoparticles near 730 nm, and meanwhile TiN nanoparticles-based foils possess a strong visible covering power even superior to that of carbon black. The small, well-dispersed TiN nanoparticles dispersed in polymer foil can make the thin film high transparent and available for some optical regulation fields like automobile, architecture and other non-linear optical fields. To sum up, this study has attempted to propose a general strategy way for making transparent composite optical foils directly by embedding the multifunctional inorganic nanomaterials into organic polymer hosts.

Synergistic effects and kinetic evidence of a transition metal-tin modified Beta zeolite on conversion of Miscanthus to lactic acid

Meng Xia,Zheng Shen,Shaoze Xiao,Bo-yu Peng,Minyan Gu,Wenjie Dong,Yalei Zhang

The direct catalytic transformation of raw lignocellulosic biomass into valuable chemicals is of great significance for sustainable production. This work reports the combination of a transition metal chromium with tin in Beta zeolites to efficiently catalyse the conversion of Miscanthus into lactic acid with a yield of 33.4% and a selectivity of 53.2%. On the basis of experiment and kinetic studies , chromium and tin were beneficial for the retro-aldol condensation and isomerization of carbohydrates, respectively. The acidity of the catalyst was investigated based on important insight into the synergetic catalytic mechanism. The strong Lewis acidity possessed by the transition metals was remarkably advantageous for catalysing the retro-aldol fragmentation reaction, while the relatively weak Lewis acidity of the tin species was considered a dominant factor in the isomerization reaction. The coupling of multifunctional active sites provided a new director for the transformation towards lactic acid formation.

Ternary Hollow Mesoporous TiN/N-Graphene/Pt Hybrid Results in Enhanced Electrocatalytic Performance for Methanol Oxidation and Oxygen Reduction Reaction

Baocang Liu,Lili Huo,Geng Zhang,Jun Zhang

A novel hollow mesoporous TiN/N-graphene (N-G) hybrid architecture (@M-TiN/N-G) composed of N-doped graphene wrapped mesoporous TiN nanoparticle shells was constructed for the first time. It can be used as an efficient support for creating a highly efficient ternary @M-TiN/N-G/Pt electrocatalyst with superior catalytic activity and stability for methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) through decorating well-dispersed Pt nanoparticles on @M-TiN/N-G surface. By optimizing the content of N-G in catalysts, the @M-TiN/N-G/Pt catalysts display superior catalytic activity and stability toward MOR and ORR to traditional Pt/C and graphene-free Pt/TiN and @M-TiN/Pt catalysts. The various characterization results reveal that the outstanding electrocatalytic performance of @M-TiN/N-G/Pt catalyst roots in its large surface area, high porosity, strong interaction among Pt, TiN, and N-G, excellent electron transfer property facilitated by N-doped graphene, and small size of Pt and TiN nanocrystals. The synthetic approach may be available for constructing other graphene based hollow metal nitrides, carbides, and phosphides for various electrocatalytic applications.

Rational design of carbon shell endows TiN@C nanotube based fiber supercapacitors with significantly enhanced mechanical stability and electrochemical performance

Peng Sun,Rui Lin,Zilong Wang,Meijia Qiu,Zhisheng Chai,Bodong Zhang,Hui Meng,Shaozao Tan,Chuanxi Zhao,Wenjie Mai

As an emerging energy storage device for wearable electronics , fiber supercapacitors (FSCs) have distinguished themselves from two dimensional SCs. Herein, TiN@C nanotube-based fiber electrodes are designed through a one-step nitridation and complete carbon coating process . They exhibit 260% higher capacitance than the samples obtained by traditional two-step nitridation and carbonization method. The carbon shell and the fabrication method are critical for the performance of the electrodes. The carbon shell remarkably protects the polycrystalline TiN core from mechanical cracking and chemical oxidation . FSCs based on these fiber electrodes demonstrate excellent electrochemical performance and mechanical stability. High capacitance of 2.4   mF   cm −1 (19.4   mF   cm −2 and 1.9   F   cm −3 ) at a scan rate of 10   mV   s −1 with an energy density of 2.69   μW   h   cm −2 and a power density of 809   μW   cm −2 can be achieved. Moreover, nearly 80% capacitance retention after 10,000 cycle tests can be realized and the novel FSC can be bent for 2000 times with capacitance decay of 7.2%. Interestingly, our FSCs show almost no decay when cut into two segments due to the adoption of solid state electrolyte , demonstrating excellent tailorability. Finally, they can be also used as electric cables while store energy, demonstrating their bi-functionality.

Pharmacokinetics of di-phenyl-di-(2,4-dichlorbenzohydroxamato) tin (IV): A new metal-based candidate with promising antitumor activity in rats

Yunlan Li,Pu Guo,Niu Lin,Qingshan Li

Di-phenyl-di-(2,4-dichlorbenzohydroxamato) tin (IV) (DPDCT), a new diorganotin (IV) arylhydroxamate, has been reported to show high in vivo and in vitro antitumor activity with relatively low toxicity, but no data are available regarding its pharmacokinetics. In this paper, a selective high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method was developed and validated for the determination of DPDCT in plasma. The separation was achieved by HPLC on a Diamonsil C18 column with a mobile phase composed of methanol/0.5% phosphoric acid (28:72, v/v, pH 3.0) and the detector set at 228   nm. Good linearity was found between 0.1 and 15.0   μg/ml ( r   =   0.9992). A non-compartmental method was used to determine all plasma profiles. The pharmacokinetic parameters of DPDCT were also compared to data obtained for total tin by using nonselective atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS). The use of selective analytical techniques is strongly recommended for obtaining the kinetic parameters of the intact compound after single intravenous administration to rats instead of that of the complex mixture of tin containing endogenous compounds. The differences in the area under the curve (AUC), half-life ( t 1 / 2 ), and mean residence time (MRT) values for intact DPDCT and total tin showed notable statistical significance, indicating that intact DPDCT was transformed into (tin)-containing metabolites.

Application of bimetallic PtPd alloy decorated graphene in peroxydisulfate electrochemiluminescence aptasensor based on Ag dendrites decorated indium tin oxide device

Weiyan Liu,Hongmei Yang,Shenguang Ge,Lei Shen,Jinghua Yu,Mei Yan,Jiadong Huang

In this paper, PtPd alloy decorated reduced graphene oxide (RGO/PtPd) was synthesized by a simple and green method. The RGO/PtPd could catalytic oxidation of H 2 O 2 to form O 2 and O 2 acted as the coreactant of peroxydisulfate, could greatly amplify the ECL signal. Moreover, the RGO/PtPd exhibited higher catalytic activity compared to the RGO/Pt or RGO/Pd catalyst because of the synergetic effects of Pt and Pd and the enhanced electron transfer of RGO. Based on this, a highly sensitive and selective label-free electrochemiluminescence (ECL) aptasensor for detection of adenosine triphosphate was designed. In this process, RGO/PtPd could be regarded as mimicking enzyme, the effect of which was similar to horseradish peroxidase in generating O 2 and also used as carriers to immobilize ssDNA2. With respect to sensitivity, Ag dendrites with hierarchical nanostructures were electrodeposited on working electrode of portable indium tin oxide device, which improved the electronic transfer rate as well as increased the amount of immobilized capture ssDNA1. Under the optimal conditions, the approach provided a linear range from 0.1   pM to 50   nM and a low detection limit of 0.037   pM.

Development of glucose biosensors based on plasma polymerization-assisted nanocomposites of polyaniline, tin oxide, and three-dimensional reduced graphene oxide

Shide Wu,Fangfang Su,Xiaodong Dong,Chuang Ma,Long Pang,Donglai Peng,Minghua Wang,Linghao He,Zhihong Zhang

A biosensor based on the plasma polyaniline (pPANI)-modified tin oxide and 3D reduced graphene oxide (SnO 2 @3D-rGO) nanocomposite was fabricated to detect glucose. The SnO 2 @3D-rGO nanocomposite was synthesized by simultaneously reducing 3D graphene oxide (3D-GO) and translating SnCl 4 into SnO 2 , followed by pPANI modification. The content of amino groups in the SnO 2 @3D-rGO@pPANI nanocomposites depended on the plasma input powers used in plasma deposition. The SnO 2 @3D-rGO nanocomposite was important in the electrochemical biosensor to detect glucose. The fabricated biosensor exhibited a much higher sensitivity than that formed from individual components, namely, SnO 2 @3D-rGO and pPANI. This biosensor demonstrated a low detection limit of 0.047   ng   mL −1 (0.26   nM) (S/N   =   3) within the concentration range of 0.1   ng   mL −1 to 5   μg   mL −1 . The selectivity, stability, and practicality of the SnO 2 @3D-rGO@pPANI-based biosensor were observed. In conclusion, the plasma surface-modified nanocomposite is a promising candidate as biosensor for glucose detection and biological diagnosis.

Electrochemical sensor of Cu nanoparticles on Cu based metal organic frame works hybridized indium tin oxides glasses for Pb2+ detection

Haorong Sun,Hangxi Liu,Ming Fang,Zeyi Chen,Yifeng Zhang,Xiaoli Tan

Heavy metal pollution, particularly Pb 2+ , poses a severe threat to human survival and ecosystem health due to its detrimental effects on organisms. Therefore, evaluating the concentration of Pb 2+ in the environment can help mitigate these risks in advance. In this study, Cu nanoparticles (Cu NPs) modified 2D Cu-Metal-organic frameworks (Cu(NPs)/Cu-MOFs@ITO) are prepared and loaded onto indium tin oxide (ITO) glass by an electrophoretic method to produce an electrochemical sensor (ECS) for Pb 2+ . Cu(NPs)/Cu-MOF-B was synthesized by a simple solvothermal method and characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM , Raman, FT-IR and other methods to analyze the crystal structure, molecular structure and microstructure. The Cu NPs improve the electron transfer ability, and the abundant surface amino groups of Cu-MOF can be used to bind Pb 2+ characterized by CVs and EISs. The excellent energy positions of valence and conduction bands of Cu(NPs)/Cu-MOF facilitate the electron migration in oxidation and reduction of Pb 2+ analyzed by XPS, Mott-Schottky and UV–vis absorption curves. The limit of detection (LOD) reaches 0.065 μM and the sensitivity reaches 99.04 μA μM -1 cm -2 . The Cu(NPs)/Cu-MOFs@ITO ECS can be successfully applied to detect Pb 2+ in water environments with high sensitivity, selectivity and reproducibility, which provides a feasible method for detecting Pb 2+ .

Growth mechanism of three-dimensional porous tin foam based on the coupled effects of reduction reaction competition and interface regulation

Nan Gao,Ziqi Xu,Yanjie Xue,Xiaoying Liu,Yunpeng Wang,Haitao Ma

This paper systematically conducted a study on the microstructural evolution of tin foam prepared by the hydrogen bubble dynamic template (HBDT) under key deposition parameters, and established a growth model for three-dimensional (3D) porous tin foam based on the coupled effects of competitive reduction reactions and interface regulation. By exploring the competitive relationship between hydrogen evolution and metal deposition, a novel mechanism was proposed for the hydrogen bubble template, revealing the dual role of hydrogen bubbles in metal deposition under the coupling of tin ion concentration and deposition potential. It was also elucidated that the competitive equilibrium between hydrogen evolution and tin ion reduction was crucial for sustaining the dynamic stability of the bubble template, ultimately inducing the formation of 3D porous structures. In addition, the correlation between pore structures (pore size and density) and bubble behavior was deeply discussed to gain a comprehensive perspective. Therefore, this study holds significant importance for guiding the research on customizing the 3D porous tin foam structures in controlled crystallization reactions.

Flame Retardant, Smoke Suppressant, and Thermal Degradation Properties of Poly(Vinyl Chloride) Treated With Fibrous Tin-Based Metal–Organic Framework

Lian-lian Duan,Xiao-xia Xu,Fu-ya Liu,Jie Wu,Hong-qiang Qu,Jian-zhong Xu,Hai-yun Ma,Yun-hong Jiao

The current basic requirement for additive flame retardants is to improve flame retardancy while minimizing damage to the mechanical properties of the matrix. Many studies have reported that fibrous flame retardants not only improve flame retardancy but also enhance the performance of the flame-retardant polymer matrix. Therefore, a fibrous tin-based metal–organic framework material (SnBDC) in this study was prepared in an aqueous solution and studied as a flame retardant in poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) matrix through the following methods: the limiting oxygen index (LOI), cone calorimetry, universal tensile testing machine, a thermogravimetric analyzer coupled with a mass spectrometer, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffractometer, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Compared with PVC, the LOI value and tensile strength of the flame-retardant PVC sample treated with 2 phr SnBDC (PVC/2) were increased by 3 units and 34%, respectively; the peak heat release rate, peak smoke production rate, and total smoke production of PVC/2 were reduced by 44%, 66%, and 45%, respectively. SnBDC mainly accelerates the dechlorination of PVC in the first stage, promotes the cross-linking of PVC dechlorination products into char, and inhibits especially the release of aromatic compounds.

Preparation and antifouling performance of tin-free self-polishing antifouling coatings based on side-chain suspended indole derivative structural resins

Wenjian Dong,Chunhua Ni,Xia Li,Liangmin Yu,Xuefeng Yan

Tin-free self-polishing antifouling coatings have the highest market share since organotin self-polishing antifouling coatings have been banned. However, its high dependence on cuprous oxide was found to have caused potential harm to the environment, making it necessary to improve the functionality of the resin. In this paper, a zinc acrylate resin with side chain hanging indole derivative structure was prepared by using N-(1H-5-bromoindole-3-methylene) (BIAM) with good biological activity as functional monomer. The functional resin with good antifouling performance was selected by antibacterial and algae inhibition experiments. The results showed that when the BIAM content was 9 %, the inhibition rates of the resin on E. coli and Prymnesium parvum reached 98 % and 90 %, respectively. Tin-free self-polishing antifouling coatings were prepared using the above resins as film-forming materials. The anti-protein adsorption performance and antifouling performance of the coating were tested by anti-protein adsorption experiment and real sea hanging plate experiment. The results showed that the coating containing indole derivative structure had good anti-protein adsorption performance and antifouling performance, and the higher the BIAM content, the better the anti-protein adsorption performance and marine antifouling performance.

Metal-free heteroatom integrated defect engineering of flexible carbon networks on tin oxide nanoparticles to enhance lithium-ion battery performance

Batool Saima,Idrees Muhammad,Javed Muhammad Sufiyan,Xu Junguo,Albaqami Munirah D.,Ahmad Awais

We propose an innovative and straightforward approach to mitigate the mechanical strain of tin oxide nanoparticles via coating them with a heteroatom-integrated honeycomb-like carbon layer. This design improves the stability of the electrode–electrolyte interface. Tin oxide nanoparticles were coated with a carbon layer integrated with sulfur and nitrogen using phenolic resin and 2,5-mercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole, followed by reduction and carbonization, resulting in the SnO₂@S,N–C nanocomposite. The heteroatom doping disrupts the carbon lattice, creating vacancies, defects, and functional groups that serve as active sites for lithium-ion adsorption and enhance ion diffusion. The porous carbon layer enables efficient electrolyte penetration and accommodates volume changes during cycling. The engineered SnO₂@S,N–C and SnO₂@C anode materials exhibited impressive lithium-ion storage capacities of 840 mAh g −1 and 640 mAh g −1 at 0.1 A g −1 , respectively, with a coulombic efficiency of over 99% sustained for up to 750 cycles. Additionally, SnO₂@S,N–C retained specific capacities of 505.79 and 387.99 mAh g −1 at current densities of 0.6 A g −1 and 1.0 A g −1 , respectively, maintaining a ≥ 99% coulombic efficiency for up to 100 cycles. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations confirmed a strong binding affinity for lithium ions on SnO 2 @S,N–C. This method demonstrates a promising strategy for optimizing anode materials in high-performance lithium-ion batteries.
