Wood-based panels containing urea-formaldehyde resin result in the long-term release of formaldehyde and threaten human health. In this study, inorganic aluminosilicate coatings prepared by combining metakaolin, silica fume, NaOH, and H 2 O were applied to the surfaces of wood-based panels to obstruct formaldehyde release. The Si/Al, Na/Al, and H 2 O/Na 2 O molar ratios of the coatings were regulated to investigate their effects on the structure and formaldehyde-resistant barrier properties of coatings. Results showed that the cracks in the coatings gradually disappeared and the formaldehyde resistance rates of the barrier increased as the Si/Al molar ratio was increased from 1.6 to 2.2. This value also increased as the Na/Al molar ratio was increased from 0.9 to 1.2 because of the improvement of the degree of polymerization. As the H 2 O/Na 2 O molar ratio was increased from 12 to 15, the thickness of the dry film decreased gradually and led to the reduction in the formaldehyde resistance rate. When the Si/Al, Na/Al, and H 2 O/Na 2 O molar ratios were 2.2, 1.2, and 12, respectively, the inorganic aluminosilicate coating showed good performance as a formaldehyde-resistant barrier and its formaldehyde resistance rate could reach up to 83.2%.

A hybrid organic–inorganic sol–gel coating was prepared on the surface of cast aluminum–silicon (Al–Si) alloy via dip coating method to improve the anticorrosion ability. In the present work, bis(triethoxysilyl) ethane (BTSE) and 3-glycidoxypropyl-trimethoxysilane (GPTMS) were employed as the precursors to prepare hybrid sol–gel (BG) coating. Nano titanium dioxide (nano-TiO 2 ) was introduced to improve the corrosion resistance of the coating. The microstructures of the BG/nano-TiO 2 (BG-T) coating was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), and Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The results showed that there was a chemical reaction between nano-TiO 2 and BG coating and a complete defect-free coating formed on the surface of Al–Si alloy. Moreover, there were a few only minor cracks appeared on the surface of BG-T coating after 15 days immersion in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution. The corrosion resistant performances of the coatings were evaluated by the electrochemical tests. The results showed that the nano-TiO 2 particles elevated the corrosion potential and depressed the corrosion current, thereby improved the corrosion resistance. The long-term immersion tests of BG and BG-T coating further showed that the BG-T coating possesses an excellent long-term stability for corrosion protection.

In this work, fluorescent carbon quantum dots (CQDs) composite transparent film with blue emission was prepared via hydrothermal fabrication, mixing with vinyl acetate-ethylene (VAE) emulsion, coated and cross-linked on the glass in sequence. This CQD/VAE film has good sticking ability and compatibility of sealing ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) material and works well as luminescent downshifting (LDS) materials. Based on these features, we did a set of optical characteristics analysis for CQD/VAE film and inserted a CQD/VAE film between glass and EVA encapsulation in a mini metal wrap through (MWT) solar module. This LDS could convert UV part of solar spectra, which are normally blocked by EVA, into the blue range and improve the light absorption by solar cell. Enhancement in the performance of solar modules was proved, especially the improvement of current of short circuit (I sc ), external quantum efficiency (EQE) of the UV wavelength and solar module efficiency. This material provides the chance for prompt application, since it simply solves the dispersion problem of LDS material inside encapsulation and keeps the transparency of sealing polymer materials.

In this research, the high-temperature mechanical, electrical and thermal properties of arc-melted W-based composites with a small amount of SiC additives were investigated. The high-temperature mechanical properties of tungsten were enhanced by the presence of the hard ceramic phase (W 5 Si 3 and W 2 C) and the interaction of dislocations. The ceramic phase also played a role in inhibiting the grain growth at high temperatures. The ultimate compressive strength (UCS) of the W with 1 wt% SiC (S1) was 968.9 MPa at 1273 K, which is three times that of pure W (291.9 MPa) at 1273 K, showing a significant enhancement in high-temperature strength . Both thermal conductivity ( κ ) and electrical conductivity ( σ ) decreased with the increasing of SiC addition. With increasing temperature, the σ decreased while the κ increased due to the intrinsic behavior of the ceramic phase in the composites.

Τhe photocatalytic activity in the range of visible light wavelengths and the thermal stability of the structure were significantly enhanced in Si, N co-doped nano-sized TiO2, and synthesized through high-energy mechanical milling of TiO2and SiO2powders, which was followed by calcination at 600 °C in an ammonia atmosphere. High-energy mechanical milling had a pronounced effect on the mixing and the reaction between the starting powders and greatly favored the transformation of the resultant powder mixture into an amorphous phase that contained a large number of evenly-dispersed nanocrystalline TiO2particles as anatase seeds. The experimental results suggest that the elements were homogeneously dispersed at an atomic level in this amorphous phase. After calcination, most of the amorphous phase was crystallized, which resulted in a unique nano-sized crystalline-core/disordered-shell morphology. This novel experimental process is simple, template-free, and provides features of high reproducibility in large-scale industrial production. Keywords:Si, N co-doped anatase;high-energy mechanical milling;mechanochemical method;photocatalytic activity

Core–shell structured Fe-6.5 wt% Si/SiO2 particles and intergranular insulated Fe-6.5 wt% Si/SiO2 composite compacts with tunable insulating layer thickness were prepared by in situ chemical deposition combined with a subsequent spark plasma sintering process. Most of conductive Fe-6.5 wt% Si alloy particles were coated with a SiO2 insulating layer in the Fe-6.5 wt% Si/SiO2 composite compacts. The SiO2 insulating layer could increase the electrical resistivity and reduce the effective radius of the eddy current in Fe-6.5 wt% Si/SiO2 composite compacts. Therefore, the intergranular insulated Fe-6.5 wt% Si/SiO2 composite compacts presented lower core loss than those of Fe-6.5 wt% Si compacts without SiO2 insulating layer. Based on this, several types of Fe-6.5 wt% Si/SiO2 core–shell particles and intergranular insulated Fe-6.5 wt% Si/SiO2 composite compacts (with various SiO2 insulating layer thicknesses) were selectively prepared by simply varying the TEOS concentration (the volume of TEOS for each gram of Fe-6.5 wt% Si particles, ml g−1). The results indicated that the thickness of the SiO2 layer and electrical resistivity of Fe-6.5 wt% Si/SiO2 composite compacts increased with increasing the TEOS concentration from 0.1 to 0.4 ml g−1, while saturation magnetization, relative permeability and core loss displayed the reverse tendencies. The as-prepared intergranular insulated Fe-6.5 wt% Si/SiO2 composite compacts exhibited excellent magnetic properties, which inspire us to develop new high silicon containing soft magnetic cores which can be widely used in various electromagnetic devices.

With the development of advanced electronic packaging, a big challenge for the chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) is to achieve the global planarization of EMC (epoxy molding compound)- Si -Cu materials with the normal ceramic abrasives. In this paper, the SiO 2 @CeO 2 core-shell composite abrasive is developed for the CMP of EMC/Si/Cu materials for the first time, and a global planarization with low removal selectivity is expected owing to the synergistic effect of the core-shell abrasives. Two sol-gel synthetic strategies, i.e., oil bath and ultrasonication, are proposed for the controllable synthesis of the SiO 2 @CeO 2 abrasives, which exhibit a good dispersive stability with a large absolute zeta potential >30 mV. The slurry for the CMP of EMC-Si-Cu based on the SiO 2 @CeO 2 abrasives shows the advantage in controlling the surface roughness, material removal rate and the removal selectivity. Especially, the ultrasonic SiO 2 @CeO 2 abrasives give rise to the low surface roughness (Cu 2 nm, Si 0.3 nm, EMC 10 nm) and the low removal selectivity (Cu/EMC/Si = 1.58:1.56:1.00). Therefore, the proposed SiO 2 @CeO 2 core-shell abrasives and the developed CMP slurry opens an alternative way for the planarization of EMC/Si/Cu materials in the advanced electronic packaging.

Binders provide a straightforward and efficient strategy to mitigate the significant challenge of volume expansion in silicon anodes for lithium-ion batteries. To improve the cycle life of silicon anodes, a cross-linked binder carboxymethyl cellulose–phytic acid–pyrrole (CMC-DP) is designed and synthesized using carboxymethyl cellulose, phytic acid, and pyrrole. The numerous hydroxyl groups in phytic acid provide abundant binding sites for the formation of hydrogen and ester bonds. The formation of hydrogen bonds and covalent bonds enhances the mechanical properties of the adhesive. The amino groups in the binder form N Si O covalent bonds with silicon particles, while the hydroxyl and carboxyl groups form (COO) 2 Cu and (OH) 2 Cu coordination bonds with the copper foil, enhancing interfacial adhesion. When the CMC-DP10 (10 µL pyrrole) binder is applied to silicon nanoparticles (∼30 nm), the specific capacity of the electrode can be maintained at around 1700 mAh/g after 500, whereas the CMC binder achieves only ∼100 mAh/g under the same conditions. This work demonstrates that the CMC-DP binder exhibits strong adhesion to both silicon nanoparticles and copper foil.

Micron porous silicon (MPSi) is a promising lithium-ion battery (LIB) anode that can provide enough space to effectively alleviate the volume expansion and large number of transmission channels to rapidly transport the Li-ions. However, a long-term stable MPSi anode at high current density is still a great challenge. Herein, a double-regulated formicarium like-MPSi composite using the surface hard–soft titanium dioxide-few layered MXene nanotemplate (FMPSi@TiO2@FMXene) was designed and synthesized via an in situ assembly strategy as long-life LIB anode. Such hard–soft TiO2–FMXene nanoencapsulation can collaboratively tune the internal/external stress, inhibit the volume expansion, reduce the interfacial reactions, and improve the electrical conductivity of MPSi, resulting in the great enhancement of structural stability and electrochemical performance in cycling even at high current density. Especially, this FMPSi@TiO2@FMXene anode exhibits a high reversible capacity of 1254.9 and 970.4 mAh/g after 500 cycles at 0.5 and 1 A/g, respectively. Moreover, a full cell is assembled with the FMPSi@TiO2@FMXene anode and commercial LiFePO4 (LFP) cathode, exhibiting a high capacity retention rate of 91.6% in 100 cycles. This work provides an effective surface nanoengineering tactic to obtain the structurally stable MPSi anodes by hard–soft nanotemplate for large-scale and long-term LIB application.

As green renewable resources, wood and its composites are widely used in the construction field, which puts forward higher requirements for their flame-retardant performance. In this study, a high-temperature hydrothermal crystallization method for in situ constructing an epoxy crosslinked Si–Al zeolite-like structural wood composite (W ZLC ) was reported. Under the action of amine guiding agents and epoxy resin, the zeolite-like catalytic structure constructed in poplar wood comprised negative electrocatalytic sites, which can efficiently catalyze the formation of the carbon layer and endow W ZLC with excellent flame retardant, smoke-suppression, and self-extinguishing properties. Compared with the untreated wood (W N ), the thermal stability of the treated wood (W ZLC ) was greatly improved, and the amount of volatile organic compounds released during the decomposition process was significantly reduced. The heat release rate, total heat release, smoke production rate, and total smoke production of W ZLC1 decreased by 50.23%, 44.14%, 45.21%, and 28.46%, respectively. Particularly, CO and CO 2 yields of W ZLC significantly decreased by 92.26% and 92.02%, respectively, indicating that the Si–Al zeolite-like catalytic structure displayed excellent catalytic flame retardant properties, which can effectively decrease the thermal decomposition rate and combustion risk of the W ZLC . This method uses less flame retardants to achieve a good flame retardant and smoke suppression effect, thereby reducing the risk of environmental pollution caused by too many flame retardants.

Long-term exposure to Fipronil (FIP) roots the vital organ, like liver, kidney, and neurological disorders. Therefore, fast, portable and low-cost sensors are required to detect FIP in environmental and food samples. Here, an electrochemical sensor was successfully developed by using Si-69-β-CD and N-rGO modified a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for the detection of FIP. The novel Si-69-β-CD composite was prepared by a facile hydrothermal method was subjected to Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectrometers (EDS), powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) for morphological and structural confirmation. Results: The electrochemical properties of β-CD were improved by grafting Si-69 as estimated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and cyclic voltammetry (CV). The electrochemical studies demonstrated that the developed Si-69-β-CD/N-rGO/GCE sensor exhibited high sensitivity and selectivity for FIP. In addition, under optimized experimental conditions, the Si-69-β-CD/N-rGO/GCE sensor for FIP was shown a wide linear range of 0.01–20 µmol/L and the limit of detection (LOD) of 0.0023 µmol/L. The usefulness of the sensor for the detection of FIP in egg samples was also investigated. Significance: Our study is valueable to the analytical methodology for measurements of Fiproni with a novel method that is robust and sensitive than others. Our current study showed sufficient sensitivity and accuracy and thus is suitable for future application in measuring contaminants in environmental and food samples.

Separating water-in-heavy oil (W/HO) emulsions at low (room) temperature is challenging when exploiting heavy oil. We propose an adaptable strategy for constructing Si/O-doped demulsifiers. A nonionic demulsifier (APBMP) has been synthesized based on polysiloxane modified by allyl polyether and butyl acrylate. APBMP achieves 95.97% dehydration within 5 min for W/HO emulsions at 288.15 K and complete dehydration in 15 min at 323.15 K. Mechanistic studies found that doping Si/O into the demulsifier molecules increases the number of hydrogen bond sites, which enables the demulsifiers to quickly disperse natural stabilizers (e.g., asphaltenes) and replace them at the oil–water interfacial film. The demulsifiers prefer to occupy the interfacial sites rather than dissolve into the bulk oil or water phases. Driven by hydrogen-bond-dominated noncovalent interactions, the oil–water interfacial film is softened, reconstructed, and broken. These findings provide insights into developing novel materials for oil–water separations in a low-carbon way.
