Sepsis is a severe and complex systemic infection that can result in multiple organ dysfunction. Sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (SAKI), caused by inflammatory response, oxidative stress, and cellular apoptosis, is a common complication that seriously impacts patient survival rates. Herein, a potent and novel metal-polyphenol nanomicelle can be efficiently self-assembled with Pt4+ and honokiol (HK) by the chelation, π–π conjugation, hydrophobic action, and the surfactant properties of Tween-80. These nanomicelles not only enhance drug bioavailability (encapsulation rates: Pt─49%, HK─70%) and reduce drug toxicity (safety dose: <20 μg/g) but also improve targeting toward damaged renal tissues. Furthermore, Pt4+ and HK in the nanomicelles exert a synergistic physiological effect by scavenging free radicals to alleviate oxidative damage, inhibiting macrophage activation and the release of inflammatory factors to regulate inflammation, and displaying broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity to control infection. These actions collectively protect renal tissue and restore its functionality. Here, we constructed metal-polyphenol nanomicelles (Pt/HK-NMs) via ingenious and efficient self-assembly, providing a new strategy to compensate for deficiencies in the hemodialysis and antibiotic treatment of SAKI.

N -formylation of amines with CO 2 is a promising approach to high-efficient utilization of CO 2 as C1 feedstock, while conventional thermocatalytic processes suffer from harsh reaction condition and intense energy consumption. In this work, photocatalytic N -formylation of amines with CO 2 is achieved at room temperature over Pt-Bi/CeO 2− x composite catalyst. The Pt-Bi bimetallic sites increase the concentration of surface oxygen vacancies. Furthermore, the synergistic effects of Pt and Bi improve the light absorption capacity, reduce the band gap energy of the photocatalyst and promote the separation of photoinduced charge carriers. Using PhSiH 3 as the reducing agent, the conversion of N -methylaniline reaches 100 % after 3 h irradiation in N, N -dimethylformamide solvent with a N- methylformanilide selectivity of 90.8 %. The composite photocatalyst shows promising cycling stability and universality.

A novel approach is developed to construct Z -scheme heterojunctions via growing SnO 2 nanoparticles on Pt decorated hollow TiO 2 bowl nanoarrays (TBN) towards efficient photogenerated charge carrier separation and transfer to enhance the redox ability of resulting catalysts. Namely, sample TBN was fabricated using hollow carbon spheres as templates, in which highly crystalline TiO 2 nanoparticles (less than 10 nm) were assembled into nanoarray to construct hollow bowl spheres. Homogeneously distributed small Pt nanoparticles in TBN govern the growth of SnO 2 nanoparticles via a solvent thermal route and finally to create Z -scheme TiO 2 /Pt/SnO 2 heterojunctions. Pt loading between SnO 2 and TBN components improved photogenerated charge carrier separation and transfer efficiencies and enhanced photocatalytic performance. TiO 2 /Pt/SnO 2 heterostructure samples exhibited improved performance for tetracycline hydrochloride removal with a pseudo-first-order kinetic reaction constant of k = 0.080 min −1 which were 3.8 and 6.7 times of those of TBN (k = 0.012 min −1 ) and TBN/SnO 2 composites (sample TS, k = 0.021 min −1 ), respectively. Moreover, the photocatalytic hydrogen generation rate of TiO 2 /Pt/SnO 2 heterostructures without using co-catalyst was 3511.9 μmol·g −1 ·h −1 which was 2.3 times of that of sample TS using Pt as co-catalyst. These results provided new sights for synthesis of photocatalysts especially for the removal of antibiotic pollutants.

Design of efficient metal-acid bifunction catalysts is of significance for development of hydroisomerization of linear alkanes. In this study, the spatial configurational construction of Pt-ZSM-5 catalytic system was achieved by fabrication of acidic ZSM-5 zeolite and mesoporous silica core-shell composites equipped with controlled location of Pt sites, which aim to explore the effect of functional sites proximity on isomerization reactivity. A series of characterization techniques such as X-ray diffraction, transmission electronic microscopy, N 2 physical adsorption, NH 3 temperature programmed desorption, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and so on had confirmed that the synthesized core-shell bifunctional catalysts with different Pt location possessing similar textural, acid and metal properties. In the catalytic hydroisomerization of n -heptane, however, the catalyst with Pt sites locating at acid zeolite exhibits superior n -heptane conversion and isomerization selectivity, which indicates that proximity of active sites at atomic scale may be more conducive to their synergistic effect when the diffusional limitation from zeolitic channel is minimized. These results had presented new direction for the preparation of efficient bifunctional catalysts in hydroisomerization of linear alkanes.

The catalytic hydrogenation of nitroarenes to aromatic amines constitutes a pivotal transformation in fine chemical synthesis, yet existing catalysts face inherent trade-offs between activity, chemoselectivity, and structural stability. In this work, we demonstrate a vacancy-directed strategy enabled by flash Joule heating to engineer Pt single-atom catalysts with tailored Pt-N 3 Cl 1 coordination on nitrogen-doped activated carbon (Pt-NAC-J). The instantaneous thermal shock (1000 °C, 1 s) generates abundant vacancy-rich defects that enable ultra-dispersed Pt anchoring and reconfigure the Pt coordination from Pt-N 4 Cl 1 to asymmetric Pt-N 3 Cl 1 . Theoretical calculations reveal that the vacancy-induced charge redistribution at Pt-N 3 Cl 1 sites synergistically facilitates the adsorption of the -NO 2 group and the heterolytic dissociation of H 2 , thereby significantly enhancing the selective hydrogenation of nitroarenes. Compared to the conventional high-temperature pyrolyzed Pt-NAC-P catalyst, Pt-NAC-J exhibits prominent catalytic efficiency under mild conditions (40 °C, 0.5 MPa H 2 ) while preserving sensitive functional groups with >99 % selectivity. Remarkably, the catalyst maintains >99 % selectivity at elevated temperatures up to 100 °C and 100 % activity retention over 8 reaction cycles, showcasing unprecedented chemoselectivity and stability of the vacancy-stabilized Pt sites. The universality of this methodology is further evidenced through extension to a non-noble Co-NAC-J catalyst, which surpasses most reported non-precious metal systems in catalytic performance. This work opens a new avenue for vacancy-mediated coordination engineering in carbon-supported single-atom catalysts for industrial selective hydrogenation processes.

Wearable piezoelectric sensors have gained significant attention for real-time biomechanical monitoring, yet existing designs often face limitations in sensitivity, durability, and dynamic response. To address these challenges, we develop a wearable sensor utilizing gradient-architected CNT/PMN-PT/PVDF piezoelectric composites for continuous gait monitoring during weight-bearing walking. The sensor features a dual-filler gradient configuration within the poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) matrix, where strategically distributed carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and lead magnesium niobate-lead titanate (PMN-PT) ceramic particles synergistically enhance electromechanical coupling efficiency. The CNTs-enriched surface layer boosts polarization by facilitating charge injection efficiency, while the gradient-arranged PMN-PT fillers induce stress concentration, further amplifying the piezoelectric output. As a result, the sensor exhibits exceptional performance, with a decent piezoelectric coefficient (d33* = 40 pm/V) and high sensitivity (172 mV/N). Both experimental tests and finite element simulations validate the superior performance of this gradient structure, making it highly effective for real-time kinematic monitoring during weight-bearing walking. This composite-based sensor represents a promising advancement in wearable health technology, with immediate applications in clinical gait analysis, rehabilitation monitoring and sports injury prevention.

Commercial Pt/C catalyst in Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) usually suffers from Pt agglomeration, dissolution, and carbon support corrosion—exacerbated by Pt-catalyzed carbon oxidation. To address these challenges, composite supports combining high stability and electronic synergy with Pt have emerged as a promising solution. Herein, a platinum nanoparticle catalyst supported on a nitrogen-doped titania/carbon composite (Pt NPs/TiO₂-N/C) was successfully fabricated via a two-step hydrothermal method, aiming to optimize both oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) kinetics and durability through regulated support structures and interfacial interactions. Experimental results demonstrate that strong metal-support interactions (SMSI) between Pt and TiO₂-N/C play a critical role. On one hand, SMSI induces electron transfer from the support to Pt, enhances ORR kinetics. On the other hand, this interaction promotes preference nucleation and distribution of Pt on TiO₂-N surfaces, reducing direct Pt-carbon contact and effectively inhibiting Pt-catalyzed carbon corrosion, thereby improving durability. The Pt NPs/TiO₂-N/C catalyst exhibits excellent ORR activity with a half-wave potential of 0.842 V (vs. RHE) and remarkable stability, showing only a 33 mV decay in half-wave potential after 5000 accelerated degradation test cycles. This study validates that precise regulation of metal-support electronic interactions enables synergistic optimization of catalytic activity, stability, providing a theoretical basis and practical strategies for the rational design of high-performance PEMFC catalysts.

In this study, anisotropy strategy was employed to effectively enhance the piezoelectric performance and energy harvesting capability of 6 Pb(Sc 1/2 Nb 1/2 )O 3 -61 Pb(Mg 1/3 Nb 2/3 )O 3 -33PbTiO 3 (Abb. 6PSN–61PMN–33PT) ceramics. A high crystallographic orientation (Lotgering factor F 001 exceeding 98.5 %) was obtained in 6PSN–61PMN–33PT textured ceramics using the template grain growth (TGG) method. The piezoelectric response of 6PSN–61PMN–33PT ceramics was significantly improved, while the dielectric constant ( ε r ) was reduced. Compared to random ceramics, the textured ceramics exhibited higher figure of merit ( d 33 × g 33 ), markedly enhanced electromechanical coupling factor ( k p ) and piezoelectric coefficient ( d 33 ). The optimal properties were obtained in 6PSN–61PMN–33PT textured ceramics with 1 wt% BaTiO 3 template: d 33 = 1179 pC/N, k p = 0.87, ε r = 2766, d 33 × g 33 = 5.67 × 10 −11 m 2 /N, dielectric loss tan δ about 0.56 %, mechanical quality factor Q m = 194, and piezoelectric strain constant d 33 ∗ = 1130 pm/V and maximum strain S = 0.23 % at 20 kV/cm. These results demonstrate that 6PSN–61PMN–33PT textured ceramics hold promising application potential in energy harvesters.

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) monitoring is essential due to its toxicity and importance as a signaling molecule. Here, we introduce a Pt nanoparticle-loaded Mo0.33W0.67N sensor engineered for trace H2S detection featuring nanoparticle clusters with a 10–50 nm pore structure. It demonstrates exceptional selectivity and sensitivity, reaching 0.21 μA/ppm with a detection limit as low as 50 ppb, and maintains robust stability over 3 months. Notably, it outperforms commercial Pt/C electrodes with enhanced sensing capabilities attributed to the unique properties of ternary metal nitrides. By integrating the advantages of binary nitrides with multivalent cations and a specialized crystal structure, the Mo0.33W0.67N substrate achieves strong Pt interactions and improved sensor performance. This study highlights the potential of ternary metal nitride-based sensors for high-precision long-term H2S monitoring in environmental applications.

Atomically well-dispersed platinum catalysts play a vital role in various chemical processes such as direct dehydrogenation of propane (PDH), due to their high performance originated from high atom utilization. However, these catalysts suffer from complex preparation methods, and preparing atomically dispersed Pt-based catalysts with feasible methods remains challenging. Herein, we report a convenient method to prepare efficient atomically dispersed Pt/C catalysts for PDH by sulfur doping into the carbon support by simple cyclohexane impregnation method. The prepared atomically well-dispersed catalysts possess strong interactions between Pt and carbon support, which led to improved exposure of active sites and higher propylene formation rate compared to that without sulfur doping. Sintering of the Pt species was also inhibited and stability was improved by 47%. Propylene selectivity also showed a positive correlation with the amount of sulfur doping. The propane conversion first increased and then decreased, which was due to the loss of sulfur during the reaction that caused the agglomeration of Pt and the evolution of structure. It was found that the maximum catalytic activity appeared with Pt clusters of ∼ 0.71 nm with an average Pt-Pt coordination number of 3.1 and Pt-Pt bond distance of 3.09 Å.

Metal-support interaction (MSI) is regarded as an indispensable manner to stabilize active metals and modulate catalytic activity, which shows great potentials in developing of efficient hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) electrode with high activity and strong robustness. Herein, this work presents a novel heterostructure with ultrafine platinum quantum dots (Pt QDs) on defective catalytic supports derived from metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). It is indicated substantial oxygen vacancies can be generated and Pt–Pt bonds can be optimized through topological transformation. The resulting Pt/T-NiFe-BDC (BDC: C 8 H 6 O 4 ) exhibits competitive HER activity in alkaline seawater, attaining ultralow overpotentials of 158 and 266 mV at 500 and 1000 mA cm –2 with fast kinetics and outstanding stability. An asymmetric water electrolyzer using Pt/T-NiFe-BDC as a cathode only requires a voltage of 1.89 V to generate an industrial density of 1000 mA cm –2 and shows no attenuation in 500-h continuous test at 500 mA cm –2 . Theoretical calculations and in-situ spectroscopic analysis reveal the reversible hydrogen spillover mechanism, in which oxygen vacancies facilitate the sluggish water dissociation and Pt QDs promote the H* combination. This study provides a new paradigm to engineer metal-supported catalysts for efficient and robust seawater splitting.

The improvement of the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) performance of nanomaterials is associated with the interfacial synergistic interaction and their hydrogen adsorption kinetics. Nevertheless, it is still a challenge to accelerate the proton transfer and optimize the HER kinetics by constructing Pt-supported heterostructures based on the hydrogen spillover phenomenon. Herein, oxygen vacancies on the surface of MXene nanosheets were constructed via a high-temperature annealing method, which was employed to anchor/stabilize Pt nanoparticles and fabricate a Pt/MXene heterostructure. EPR and XPS analyses verified the presence of oxygen vacancies, which could enhance the intrinsic HER activity of the MXene. The HER catalytic performance was investigated by taking into account the surface structure of the MXene affected by the annealing temperature, the concentration of Pt and the number of deposition cycles. Electrochemical results showed that Pt/MXene with higher utilization of Pt was obtained at 900 °C and 0.05 mgPt mL−1. The 0.05-Pt/MXene-900 obtained at deposition of 60 cycles in 0.5 M H2SO4 solution exhibited the optimized HER activity. The overpotential was 22 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm−2 and the Tafel slope was 42.41 mV dec−1. Furthermore, the accelerated HER kinetics was mainly due to the electron trapping ability of the MXene, small particles of Pt, as well as the enhanced charge transfer between the oxygen vacancies of the MXene and Pt. This strategy for constructing Pt-supported heterostructures based on the vacancy anchoring effects provides new ideas for the design of well-defined electrocatalysts toward the HER.
