Vat photopolymerization is a widely employed additive manufacturing (AM) technique that commonly applying a digital light processing (DLP) light engine to provide a patterned light source. Notably, printing extreme-size structures is challenging, and the selection of printing parameters was currently highly reliant on repeatable trial-and-error experiments. In this work, a theoretical model for curing depth prediction was established by observing the effect of light intensity. A correction factor n was introduced to optimize the relationship among the critical curing energy, exposure time, and light intensity. Forming experiments verified the accuracy of the proposed theoretical curing depth prediction model, and a correction factor n equal to 0.75 was obtained. Optical rheological characterization experiments and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) supported the quantitative characterization of the DLP printing process while revealing a stepwise transition during photocuring. Finally, a guidance for quick selection of the optimal curing time for 3D structure was obtained and applied to the high-precision microstructure printing process. High-fidelity microneedle arrays with 12 μm details were printed. This method of rapid selection of printing parameters and printing microstructures with high-precision details can potentially be used in the field of 3D bioprinting.

In this paper, the silicon-based composites with in-situ growth of SiOCN nanofibers were produced by the catalyst-assisted pyrolysis of the self-formulated vinyl polysilazane photo-curable resin printed via digital light processing (DLP). The effects of Ni(acac) 2 contents on the properties of the initial resin, the printing parameters, and the morphology, structure, and mechanical properties of the pyrolytic specimens were investigated in detail. Gradient composites with SiOCN as the matrix and SiO 2 as the surface were obtained by the catalytic effect, and the SiOCN fibers were also in situ grown in such matrix. Specimens printed with the resin load with 0.5 wt% Ni(acac) 2 sintering at 1400℃ achieved the maximum bending strength and hardness values of 84.00 ± 2.33 MPa and 8.90 ± 0.57 GPa, respectively, which shows a ∼32.4 % and ∼7 % improvement compared with specimens printed with the initial resin. The compression strength of 26.15 ± 1.39 MPa was obtained for the planar structure with a triangle unit, which shows a future use of such materials in cellular structures. The typical structure and the gradient distribution of the atoms derived by the catalytic is the key to such improvement. The results in this paper pave the way to integrate additive manufacturing with the functional utilization of the PDCs.

In this study, the light absorption of the pure ZrO 2 and three types of colorful ZrO 2 mixtures were investigated. It was found that the absorbance of colored ZrO 2 powder increases with the colorant content, and the yellow-colored powder has the strongest absorbance at the wavelength of 405 nm compared with the other two types of colored ZrO 2 powder. The cure behavior investigation on the ceramic suspensions of the above four types of ZrO 2 powders during DLP process shows that as the colorant content increases, the cure depth and excess cure width both decrease due to the ceramic absorbance. The cure depth of colored suspensions is linear with logarithm of incident energy, consistent with Beer-Lambert model, while the further research into the cure width shows that the excess cure width increases nonlinearly with logarithm of incident energy, which is inconsistent with Quasi-Beer-Lambert model. Additionally, colorful ZrO 2 accessories were successfully fabricated.

β-Cyclodextrin (βCD)-based adsorbents have
emerged
as promising materials for micropollutant removal owing to their host–guest
recognition capability toward diverse organic molecules. However,
developing βCD-based monolithic adsorbents that simultaneously
achieve high adsorption capacity and rapid mass transport remains
challenging. Here, we report a βCD-functionalized hierarchically
porous polymer monolith fabricated by integrating digital light processing
(DLP) 3D printing, polymerization-induced phase separation (PIPS),
and supramolecular post-modification. By optimizing the porogenic
solvent composition of the printing inks, nanoporous polymer monoliths
with interconnected submicron pores, a porosity of 23.49%, an average
pore diameter of 0.20 μm, a specific surface area of 28.33 m 2 g –1 , and adequate compressive strength
were obtained. Subsequent βCD grafting introduced host–guest
adsorption sites, enabling βCD-Nano-P to achieve an equilibrium
BPA uptake of 77.52 mg g –1 at 1 mM BPA, which was
37.5% higher than that of the βCD-modified nonporous control.
The βCD-Nano-P monolith also showed good reusability over five
adsorption–desorption cycles and broad removal capability toward
different organic pollutants. Importantly, DLP printing enabled the
construction of hierarchically porous monoliths with triply periodic
minimal surface macropores, which accelerated adsorption kinetics
by increasing the adsorption rate constant 12.4-fold compared with
the nanoporous monolith without macropores. This work demonstrates
a multiscale design strategy that integrates βCD adsorption
sites, PIPS-generated nanopores, and DLP-designed macroporous flow
pathways to simultaneously improve adsorption capacity and adsorption
kinetics in structured water-treatment adsorbents.

Eutectic gels have great advantages in the application of flexible wearable electronic devices due to their good stability and flexibility. However, the adhesion properties of current eutectic gels are poor and the processing process is complicated. Based on this, this study proposed a eutectic gel with excellent adhesion properties that can be photocurable for 3D printing. We designed a polymerizable deep eutectic solvent (PDES) using acrylic acid as the main monomer, acrylic acid/choline chloride (AA/ChCl) as the eutectic solvent, and dopamine-grafted cellulose nanocrystals (DC) as the nanoscale crosslinking agent. The introduction of DC endows the gel with a denser hydrogen bond network, which can effectively provide energy dissipation and improve the mechanical properties of the gel. The introduction of mussel-inspired dopamine into the gel network gives the gel good adhesion. The low freezing point and low volatility of PDES give the gel excellent freezing resistance and long-term storage stability. Furthermore, the gel has a sensitivity factor of up to 9.5 (at 0%–900% strain), showing excellent strain sensing performance. In addition, the gel can not only realize the customization of various complex structures through digital light processing (DLP) 3D printing technology, but also the manufactured wearable devices can complete the accurate sensing of various strain signals of the human body. Therefore, the combination of multi-performance compatible eutectic gel materials and photocurable 3D printing technology will provide a new idea for the design and manufacture of flexible wearable devices. Graphical Preparation and properties of 3D printed eutectic gels crosslinked by dopamine-graftednano-cellulose.

Digital light processing (DLP) is considered as one of the most promising additive manufacturing technologies to process ceramics. However, the potential defects produced in the debinding and sintering process extremely restrict ceramic application . In this work, a plasticizer which effectively inhibits defects of the green body in debinding process was investigated. The effects of plasticizer (Polyethylene glycol 200) on the rheological behavior and curing property of the slurry were discussed. In addition, the debinding process and the mechanical of zirconia parts with different PEG200 contents were studied. Adding 20 vol% PEG200 could efficiently suppress the defects in debinding process, and the flexural strength increased from 302 ± 15 to 1210 ± 25 MPa of the ZrO 2 ceramic sintered at 1600 °C. The superior biocompatibility and mechanical property reveal that the DLP zirconia has a promising application prospect of biology dental ceramic prostheses.

Flexible pressure sensors are crucial force-sensitive devices in wearable electronics, robotics, and other fields due to their stretchability, high sensitivity, and easy integration. However, a limitation of existing pressure sensors is their reduced sensing accuracy when subjected to stretching. This study addresses this issue by adopting finite element simulation optimization, using digital light processing (DLP) 3D printing technology to design and fabricate the force-sensitive structure of flexible pressure sensors. This is the first systematic study of how force-sensitive structures enhance tensile strain stability of flexible resistive pressure sensors. 18 types of force-sensitive structures have been investigated by finite element design, simultaneously, the modulus of the force-sensitive structure is also a critical consideration as it exerts a significant influence on the overall tensile stability of the sensor. Based on simulation results, a well-designed and highly stretch-stable flexible resistive pressure sensor has been fabricated which exhibits a resistance change rate of 0.76% and pressure sensitivity change rate of 0.22% when subjected to strains ranging from no tensile strain to 20% tensile strain, demonstrating extremely low stretching response characteristics. This study presents innovative solutions for designing and fabricating flexible resistive pressure sensors that maintain stable sensing performance even under stretch conditions.

Biological piezoelectric materials have significant potential for bone repair and energy harvesting owing to their excellent biocompatibility and piezoelectric effect. The BaTiO 3 /Ca 10 (PO 4 ) 6 (OH) 2 (BT/HA) composite material is an outstanding representative of biological piezoelectric materials, which has not been individually designed using digital light processing (DLP) 3D printing because of the large difference in the refractive index of its components. Therefore, in this work, double-sided-tooth plate-like BT crystals with high curvature were prepared via a hydrothermal process, and BT/HA ceramic slurries were grinded out using dispersed intermittent ball milling scheme, and BT/HA nanocomposite ceramic scaffolds were fabricated by DLP 3D printing technology. The nanostructure, dielectric properties, and piezoelectric energy harvesting performance of the BT/HA nanocomposite ceramic scaffolds were evaluated. The influences of different morphologies and contents for BT on the piezoelectric potential and stress distribution were analyzed based on a multi-physics coupling finite element simulation. The cell proliferation and adhesion abilities were investigated also. The BT/HA nanocomposite ceramic scaffolds present excellent dielectric properties, cell proliferation and adhesion abilities, and an open circuit voltage of 8 V during piezoelectric energy harvesting. The material properties and multi-physics coupling finite element analysis imply that the double-sided-tooth plate-like BT plays an important role for the fastness structure and electric field distribution in the BT/HA nanocomposite. Thus, this work provides a strategy for the application of the customized BT/HA nanocomposite ceramic scaffolds in new-generation orthopedic implants and biological energy harvesting.

Previous studies on UV-curable elastomer for digital light processing (DLP) 3D printing flexible electronics mostly focused on higher stretchability and healability, thereby ignoring rapid recoverability after a stretch which is very important for the real-time transmission of electrical signals in flexible electronics. Herein, a UV-curable elastomer is developed with a novel dynamic hierarchical crosslinking network that can be stretched up to over 800% and rapid recoverability at 300% strain. We proposed a hydrogel-elastomer assembling process to simplify the manufacturing process for stretchable conductors. The stretchable conductors served as a strain sensor exhibiting excellent stability and repeatability after 10 cycles at 20–50% strain with low signal drift and hysteresis, Moreover, the strain sensor can be utilised in recognising the different bending angles of the finger, making DLP printing of conductive elastomer a viable strategy for the rapid manufacturing of flexible electronics.

The challenge of membrane fouling persistently hinders the advancement of membrane technology . The construction of patterned membrane surfaces is anticipated to mitigate the effects of membrane fouling significantly. In this study, ceramic microfiltration membranes with corrugated patterns were fabricated by 3D printing combined with the dip-coating process. To assess the impact of surface patterning on ceramic membrane performance , we initially compared the pore size and pure water flux between straight and corrugated membrane tubes. Both configurations exhibited similar parameters: a support pore size of approximately 1 μm, a membrane layer pore size of about 110 nm, and a pure water permeance of around 950 L m −2 h −1 ·bar −1 . The corrugated ceramic membranes demonstrated superior anti-fouling properties compared to their straight counterparts during the filtration of nanoparticle suspensions, oil-in-water emulsions, and bacterial suspensions . Specifically, under a nanoparticle suspension concentration of 2000 ppm, a transmembrane pressure of 0.2 MPa, and a flow rate of 1.0 m s −1 , the corrugated membrane achieved a stable flux of approximately 1.7 times greater than that of the straight membrane. Furthermore, we explored the effects of surface patterning on fluid dynamics through numerical simulations. The enhanced turbulence dissipation rate in the patterned membrane tubes suggests increased surface turbulence and an improved capacity to remove contaminants. This research offers novel insights into the development of ceramic membranes with enhanced anti-fouling capabilities for water treatment.

Cranial defect repair remains a major clinical challenge due to limited bone regenerative capacity and the need to preserve the adjacent neural microenvironment. Here, we developed a digital light processing printable biomimetic hydrogel scaffold based on gelatin methacrylate (GelMA), hyaluronic acid methacrylate (HAMA), and nano-hydroxyapatite (nHA), designed to recapitulate the organic-inorganic structure of native bone. The scaffold exhibited favorable printability, mechanical properties, and controlled swelling-degradation behavior. In vitro , it significantly enhanced cell proliferation and osteogenic differentiation. In a rat cranial defect model, the scaffold supported scaffold-associated tissue ingrowth, collagen-rich matrix remodeling, early vascularization, and apparent radiopaque defect filling, while showing acceptable compatibility with the adjacent cortical tissue. Transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses suggested coordinated changes in extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling, angiogenesis, immune regulation, and metabolism-related remodeling. In addition, sustained release of Ca 2+ and phosphate ions may provide bioactive cues that support osteogenic differentiation and microenvironmental regulation. Overall, these findings indicate that the GelMA/HAMA/nHA scaffold may serve as a structurally supportive and bioactive platform for cranial defect repair.

Alumina-based ceramics are regarded as the ideal material for ceramic cores owing to their outstanding high-temperature properties. In this work, digital light processing (DLP) was adopted to form complex alumina-based core structures with polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) microspheres as pore-forming agent. The influence of PMMA content and sintering temperature on the physical properties, flexural strength, and microstructure of alumina-based ceramics was investigated. The results showed that with the increase of PMMA content and decrease of sintering temperature, the porosity of ceramic cores gradually increased, whereas the flexural strength decreased. The flexural strength of ceramics was enhanced by the synergistic effect of SiO 2 and TiO 2 sintering aids, and PMMA microspheres also effectively formed a large number of pores. The most optimal structural characteristics (porosity of 50.48% and flexural strength of 46.77 MPa) were achieved, via sintering of alumina-based ceramics at 1200 °C with the addition of 20 vol% PMMA microspheres.
