CoNi-MOF/PANI/RGO-based molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensor for the detection of bisphenol A

Yuxia Zhang,Zitong Yang,Jingyu Deng,Yili Zhang,Hongzhen Li,Chen Li,Wenyuan Xu,Zhaohui Hou,Binbin Zhou

The current study aimed to present a molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensing platform for bisphenol A (BPA) detection by synergistically combining conductive RGO-PANI hybrids with porous CoNi-MOF. The RGO-PANI network facilitated electron transfer efficiency, while the porosity of CoNi-MOF enhanced molecular recognition capacity through expanded surface area and tailored recognition cavities. The conditions affecting the determination of BPA were also optimized. A linear increase of the current signal was observed in the concentration range of 1–500 nM BPA. The corresponding detection limit was calculated to be 0.36 nM. Selectivity tests showed good adsorption to BPA, which was attributed to the specificity of the MIP film. Practical validation recoveries of 95.12–103.18 % (RSD<3.6 %) were achieved in milk samples, demonstrating reliability in complex matrices. This study balanced sensitivity and cost-effectiveness compared to other sensors. This sensor provided a viable method for environmental and food safety monitoring.

Detection of citronellol in sweetpotato black spot disease using a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) gas sensor based on Co/Zn-ZIF@MIP composite

Lu Xinghua,Liu Suqi,Zhang Lu,Wang Chenglong,Wang Zhenhe,Pang Linjiang,Lu Guoquan,Cheng Jiyu,Chen Wei,Guan Yuge

Citronellol is a kind of terpene produced by plants in response to external stress, thus can be used as a gas biomarker to detect black spot Ceratocystis fimbriata infection in sweetpotato. However, many contemporary analytical methods, exemplified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), are technically demanding, time-consuming, and require complex sample preparation procedures. In this study, a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM)-based gas sensor fabricated via a surface molecular imprinting technique was modified with a Co/Zn-ZIF@MIP composite, in which cobalt-zinc bimetallic ZIF (Co/Zn-ZIF) served as the support material. A linear relationship was observed between the frequency shift and citronellol concentrations ranging from 0.88 to 22 mg/L, with a sensitivity of –6.08 Hz/(mg·L) and a limit of detection (LOD) of 1.35 mg/L. This result indicated that this sensor has excellent selectivity for citronellol and demonstrates high repeatability, as evidenced by R² value of 0.97. In evaluations with real samples, the sensor reliably identified citronellol among the complex volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted from black spot-infected sweetpotato, indicating a high level of selectivity. Our research achieved the rapid characterization of sweetpotato black spot disease within 4 min and provided new insights into the development of QCM-based gas sensors for the rapid assessment of agricultural product quality and safety.

Application of bifunctional monomer surface MIP with MOFs nanocomposite for efficient trapping and analysis of luteolin in compound Anoectochilus roxburghii (Wall.) Lindl. oral liquid

Qiuhua Zhang,Youjia Wu,Pingping Wu,Liying Huang,Lingyi Huang

Luteolin is one of the bioactive components from the compound Anoectochilus roxburghii (Wall.) Lindl. oral liquid (CAROL), which was reported to have excellent hepatoprotective and anti-inflammatory activities. However, the enrichment and quantitation of luteolin from CAROL is challenging due to the low content and complex aqueous matrix. In this study, a bifunctional monomer surface molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) with metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) as cores was prepared for the selective adsorption of luteolin from the aqueous system CAROL. Compared with conventional MIPs, this unique nanocomposite adsorbent (MOF@MIPs) has the advantages of short kinetic equilibrium time, good selectivity, and high adsorption capacity in aqueous solution. The theoretical maximum adsorption capacity of MOF@MIPs for luteolin was 36.99   mg/g. After adsorption enrichment of luteolin from CAROL using MOF@MIPs, liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry was applied to analyze the target. The corresponding linearity range for analyte was 10–6000   ng/mL with good linearity (R 2 =0.9992), and the added recoveries varied from 85.70% to 99.25%. The present method has been successfully employed for the analysis of luteolin in five different batches of CAROL. Notably, we found no significant difference in the content of luteolin between these batches, which proved that the composition was stable between batches. The novel structure MIPs are suitable for the specific recognition of template molecules in aqueous solution. Therefore, this study provides a technical reference for the special identification and determination of trace components in complex samples, while the novel MOF@MIP nanocomposite can also provide valuable references for the extraction and purification methods of specific substances in traditional Chinese medicine and expand the application environment of MIPs material.

Gold nanoparticle-mediated molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensor MIP/AuNPs/GCE for highly sensitive and selective detection of neutral phosmet residues in fruits and vegetables

Yujun Zhong,Zhiyang Li,Anlin Zhang,Yuqing Peng,Hao Zhou,Yaping Guo,Danqing Lu,Lianwu Xie,Shuyun Shi

A novel electrochemical sensor MIP/AuNPs/GCE was developed by depositing gold nanoparticles and electropolymerizing molecularly imprinted film on the surface of glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for highly sensitive detection of neutral phosmet residues in fruits and vegetables. Scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy were used to characterize the imprinted sensor. The results showed that the imprinted film on GCE was evenly prepared with better specific recognition of phosmet on MIP/AuNPs/GCE than that on bare GCE. Several parameters including deposition time, functional monomer and its molar ratio, scanning cycles, and elution time were optimized in detail. The linear range of the MIP/AuNPs/GCE prepared in this work was 0.020–4.0 nmol/L with limit of detection of 0.010 nmol/L, which was much lower than MIP/GCE (0.17 nmol/L). The identification mechanism of MIP/AuNPs/GCE for phosmet was also confirmed as adsorption-diffusion model with effective surface area increasing after mediated by AuNPs. Selectivity, reproducibility and repeatability of the MIP/AuNPs/GCE were acceptable. The recovery of applying the sensor to detect PM in real samples ranged from 91.40 % to 107.3 %, which agreed well with those of HPLC. The method of developing MIP/AuNPs/GCE sensor herein could be extended to detecting other neutral pesticide residues in food and environment.

A microfluidic chip containing a molecularly imprinted polymer and a DNA aptamer for voltammetric determination of carbofuran

Li Shuhuai,Li Jianping,Luo Jinhui,Xu Zhi,Ma Xionghui

An electrochemical microfluidic chip is described for the determination of the insecticide carbofuran. It is making use of a molecularly imprinted film (MIP) and a DNA aptamer as dual recognition units. The analyte (carbofuran) is transported to the MIP and captured at the identification site in the channel. Then, carbofuran is eluted with carbinol-acetic acid and transported to the DNA aptamer on the testing position of the chip. It is captured again, this time by the aptamer, and detected by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The dual recognition (by aptamer and MIP) results in outstanding selectivity. Additionally, graphene oxide-supported gold nanoparticles (GO-AuNPs) were used to improve the sensitivity of electrochemical detector. DPV response is linear in the 0.2 to 50 nM carbofuran concentration range at a potential of −1.2 V, with a 67 pM detection limit. The method has attractive features such as its potential for high throughput, high degree of automation, and high integration. Conceivably, the method may be extended to other analytes for which appropriate MIPs and aptamers are available. Schematic of an electrochemical microfluidic chip for carbofuran detection based on a molecularly imprinted film (MIP) and a DNA aptamer as dual recognition units. In the chip, targets were recognized by MIP and aptamer, respectively. It shows promising potential for the design of electrochemical devices with high throughput, high automation, and high integration.

An MIP-ECL sensor based on dummy-template imprinting and probe click-labeling for potential-resolved simultaneous detection of ruxolitinib and lenalidomide in therapeutic drug monitoring

Wenzhan Yu,Minjin Wu,Jiamin Xie,Zihao Huang,Xiaoping Wei,Jianping Li

A MIP-ECL sensor was developed for the dual-potential resolved simultaneous detection of RUX and LEN. • The combining dummy template imprinting with probes click-labeling enables simultaneous detection of signal-free analytes. • This strategy provides a new detection platform for therapeutic drug monitoring in combination therapy. Combination therapy is widely used in clinics to improve efficacy and reduce side effects by administering two or more drugs for personalized precise dosing. For the combination therapy of ruxolitinib (RUX) and lenalidomide (LEN) in primary myelofibrosis treatment, therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) of both drugs in blood is required. This paper presents the development of a molecularly imprinted (MIP) electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensor for the simultaneous detection of RUX and LEN. To address the challenge that neither RUX nor LEN generates ECL signals on electrodes, a dummy template molecule with terminal allyl groups, structurally similar to RUX, was designed to copolymerize with LEN for the preparation of the MIP film. A novel strategy based on dummy template competitive adsorption and photo-initiated click reactions was developed for simultaneous determination of RUX and LEN. It relies on the competitive adsorption between RUX and its dummy template on MIP, followed by click labeling of two ECL probes onto the dummy template and LEN, with detection of RUX and LEN achieved by recording the cathodic and anodic ECL signals, respectively. The MIP-ECL sensor exhibits a detection range of 5 to 5000 ng/mL for both RUX and LEN, with detection limits of 0.11 ng/mL and 0.49 ng/mL, respectively. The sensor was successfully applied to the analysis of human serum samples. It not only provides a novel approach for the detection of multiple targets without responding signals using MIP, but also offers a more sensitive and convenient technical platform for TDM. An MIP-ECL sensor combining dummy-template imprinting with probe click-labeling was developed for the potential-resolved simultaneous detection of ruxolitinib and lenalidomide. This strategy overcomes the challenge of simultaneously detecting signal-free analytes and amplifies detection signals, improving sensitivity with LODs of 0.11 ng/mL for ruxolitinib and 0.49 ng/mL for lenalidomide. Dual-signal cross-validation via ECL quenching and DPV oxidation on a MIP sensor: ultrasensitive detection of sulfadiazine in complex food matrices with a CD-COF core

Xuran Zhang,Rongxian Ma,Zhili Li,Jing Cao,Haoqi Ma,Yeyu Wu,Xuecai Tan,Kejing Huang

The excessive use of sulfadiazine (SDZ) poses significant health risks due to toxic residues in food and ecosystems. This work introduces a novel molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) sensor featuring a carbon dot-based covalent organic framework (CD-COF) core as a high-performance electrochemiluminescence (ECL) emitter. Upon SDZ rebinding to imprinted sites, the sensor leverages SDZ's inherent redox activity to enable complementary differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) detection alongside ECL quenching. This dual-signal output establishes an intrinsic cross-validation mechanism that inherently corrects environmental interferences. The sensor achieves ultrasensitive detection of SDZ, with impressively low detection limits of 0.28 nM (ECL) and 1.6 nM (DPV). Validation in food matrices demonstrates exceptional accuracy and reliability, yielding recoveries of 91–110%. This study not only provides a robust tool for trace SDZ monitoring but also establishes a new paradigm for CD-COF-powered MIP sensors integrating dual-mode signals for highly reliable contaminant analysis in real-world samples.

Jie-Ping Fan,Dan-Dan Liao,Yan-Long Xie,Bing Zheng,Jia-Xin Yu,Ya-Hui Cao,Xue-Hong Zhang,Hai-Long Peng

A composite material (MIP@Fe 3 O 4 @GO) based on molecular imprinted polymer (MIP), superparamagnetic Fe 3 O 4 particles and graphene oxide (GO) was prepared by the chemical coprecipitation method, and used to simultaneously separate and enrich two alkaloids (evodiamine and rutaecarpine) in the extract of Evodiae fructus . The as-prepared MIP@Fe 3 O 4 @GO was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The adsorption kinetics, isotherms, competitive adsorption, and reusability of MIP@Fe 3 O 4 @GO were also investigated. The results revealed that MIP@Fe 3 O 4 @GO was sensitive to the magnetic field and could be easily separated using an external magnet; MIP@Fe 3 O 4 @GO showed good recognition selectivity, as well as simultaneous enrichment and separation abilities for evodiamine and rutaecarpine in the extract of E. fructus with satisfactory recoveries. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Molecularly Imprinted Heterostructure-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Mass Spectrometry Analysis and Imaging of Quinolones

Ruya Wang,Weidong Zhang,Weiqiang Liang,Xiao Wang,Lili Li,Zhenhua Wang,Miaomiao Li,Jun Li,Chunxia Ma

Quinolone residues resulting from body metabolism and waste discharge pose a significant threat to the ecological environment and to human health. Therefore, it is essential to monitor quinolone residues in the environment. Herein, an efficient and sensitive matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI/MS) method was devised by using a novel molecularly imprinted heterojunction (MIP-TNs@GCNs) as the matrix. Molecularly imprinted titanium dioxide nanosheets (MIP-TNs) and graphene-like carbon nitrides (GCNs) were associated at the heterojunction interface, allowing for the specific, rapid, and high-throughput ionization of quinolones. The mechanism of MIP-TNs@GCNs was clarified using their adsorption properties and laser desorption/ionization capability. The prepared oxygen-vacancy-rich MIP-TNs@GCNs heterojunction exhibited higher light absorption and ionization efficiencies than TNs and GCNs. The good linearity (in the quinolone concentration range of 0.5–50 pg/μL, R2 > 0.99), low limit of detection (0.1 pg/μL), good reproducibility (n = 8, relative standard deviation [RSD] < 15%), and high salt and protein resistance for quinolones in groundwater samples were achieved using the established MIP-TNs@GCNs–MALDI/MS method. Moreover, the spatial distributions of endogenous compounds (e.g., amino acids, organic acids, and flavonoids) and xenobiotic quinolones from Rhizoma Phragmitis and Rhizoma Nelumbinis were visualized using the MIP-TNs@GCNs film as the MALDI/MS imaging matrix. Because of its superior advantages, the MIP-TNs@GCNs–MALDI/MS method is promising for the analysis and imaging of quinolones and small molecules.

A novel dual-signal molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensor based on NiFe prussian blue analogue and SnS2 for detection of p-Hydroxyacetophenone

Yan Huang,Daixin Ye,Jing Yang,Huan Lu,Li Li,Yaping Ding

Herein, based on the dual-signal strategy, an electrochemical sensor with molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) was designed for the analysis of p-Hydroxyacetophenone (p-HAP) for the first time. The sensor was fabricated by modifying the electrode with NiFe prussian blue analogue (NiFe-PBA) and followed by SnS 2 , obtaining the dual-signal from [Fe(CN) 6 ] 3−/4− at 0.20 V and NiFe-PBA at 0.52 V. In the electropolymerization of the MIP film, o-phenylenediamine was used as functional monomer and p-HAP acted as template molecule. After the adsorption of p-HAP, the two above oxidation peak currents decreased simultaneously compared with the elution, achieving the dual-signal analysis. Under the optimal conditions, the sensor exhibited a wide linear range of 10 −13 M to 10 −7 M and a low detection limit of 3.52 × 10 −14 M (3σ). Moreover, it was successfully applied to the p-HAP detection in human serum and environment water samples with satisfactory recovery.

Magnetic molecularly imprinted polymer nanoparticles based electrochemical sensor for the measurement of Gram-negative bacterial quorum signaling molecules (N-acyl-homoserine-lactones)

Hui Jiang,Donglei Jiang,Jingdong Shao,Xiulan Sun

We have developed a novel and economical electrochemical sensor to measure Gram-negative bacterial quorum signaling molecules (AHLs) using magnetic nanoparticles and molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) technology. Magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers (MMIPs) capable of selectively absorbing AHLs were successfully synthesized by surface polymerization. The particles were deposited onto a magnetic carbon paste electrode (MGCE) surface, and characterized by electrochemical measurements. Differential Pulse Voltammetry (DPV) was utilized to record the oxidative current signal that is characteristic of AHL. The detection limit of this assay was determined to be 8×10 −10   mol   L −1 with a linear detection range of 2.5×10 −9   mol   L −1 to 1.0×10 −7   mol   L −1 . This Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 -MIP-based electrochemical sensor is a valuable new tool that allows quantitative measurement of Gram-negative bacterial quorum signaling molecules. It has potential applications in the fields of clinical diagnosis or food analysis with real-time detection capability, high specificity, excellent reproducibility, and good stability.

Highly selective and sensitive detection of trace amoxicillin with a novel fluorescent nanoprobe N, S-CDs@MIP based on S/N co-doped carbon quantum dots combined with molecularly imprinted polymer

Leikai Ye,Fangyan Chen,Yubin Tang,Wenqian Sun,Yanhua Song

At present, the rapid, sensitive, and highly selective detection of trace organic contaminants is a research spot in the field of environment. Herein, a novel fluorescent nanoprobe N, S-CDs@MIP based on N/S co-doped carbon quantum dots (CDs) coupled with amoxicillin molecularly imprinted polymer was synthesized. The fluorescent property of N, S-CDs@MIP and fluorescence quenching level of amoxicillin to N, S-CDs@MIP was explored. Furthermore, the fluorescence analysis method based on N, S-CDs@MIP probe for quantitatively detecting amoxicillin was established. The synthesized N, S-CDs@MIP has a maximum fluorescence emission wavelength of 440 nm and a significantly selective fluorescence response toward amoxicillin with a large imprinting factor of 4.07. For the developed fluorescence analysis method, the detection limit, the linear range of the standard curve, and relative standard deviation (RSD) were obtained as 1.17 ng/mL, 5.8–200 ng/mL, and <3 %, respectively. The real environmental water samples were measured with a high accuracy with the recovery of 83.6 % ~ 104.7 % and RSD of 2.3 % ~ 5.1 %. Compared to the HPLC-UV, HPLC-MS, and the fluorescence detection method based on CDs or doped CDs, the established fluorescence detection method exhibits high selectivity, wide linear range, and low detection limit. It is greatly promising in the quick detection of trace amoxicillin.
