Dynamic covalent polymer networks represent new opportunities in the design of sustainable epoxy resins due to their excellent reprocessability. However, these vitrimers typically exhibit mechanical brittleness and poor resilience performance, limiting their applications in sealing, vibration damping, and impact resistance. E44/poly(2-methyl-1,3-propanediol adipate)/glutaric acid (E44/PMPA/GA) epoxy elastomers, with high resilience, reprocessability, and chemical degradability, were synthesized through epoxy-carboxylic acid opening-ring reactions. The E44/PMPA 2 /GA 8 vitrimers exhibited the highest cross-linking density (226.3 mol/m 3 ), a T g of 22.8°C (from DMA), and high thermal stability ( T i : 337°C). Owing to flexible chains and a moderate cross-linking density, the E44/PMPA 10 exhibited superior resilience (residual strain 5.6% after five tensile cycles). Meanwhile, the dynamic ester bonds within the networks endowed the E44/PMPA/GA with self-healing ability and recyclability. In addition, the vitrimers were completely chemically degradable. By regulating the synergistic effects of flexible chain segments and dynamic bonds, this work provided a promising and feasible route for the preparation of epoxy elastomers that integrate high resilience, reprocessability, and chemical degradability.

To improve the insulation and energy-storage performance of polyetherimide (PEI) films, surface-modified PEI/polydopamine (PDA) films were fabricated via in situ polymerization of dopamine. This study explores the influence of the PDA layer on the wide-temperature dielectric and energy-storage properties of PEI. The self-growth process of the PDA layer promotes the rearrangement of PEI molecular chains and enhances the films' mechanical properties. Its Coulomb blockade characteristics effectively suppress the injection of electrode carriers and improve the breakdown strength. The modified films present enhanced room-temperature performance. The breakdown strength reaches 647.2 kV/mm, which is 64% higher than that of pure PEI films. The discharge energy density ( U d ) reaches 9.51 J/cm 3 , 326% higher than that of pure PEI films. The corona resistance time is extended to 2.3 times that of pure PEI films. At 150°C, the dielectric loss at 1 kHz increases from 0.0095 to 0.019. The film maintains U d of 2.54 J/cm 3 but shows discharge efficiency of only 34.2%. This study clarifies the enhancement of the PDA layer on the room-temperature performance of PEI films and inherent limitations in high-temperature energy storage. It provides an important experimental basis for the design of PEI films modified for wide-temperature energy storage.

With the increasing complexity of thermal management requirements for high-power and precision systems, the development of thermal conductive pads is shifting from merely pursuing high thermal conductivity to also taking into account excellent flexibility. Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is an ideal base material for thermal pads due to its excellent elasticity, wide temperature stability, and electrical insulation properties. However, its inherent thermal conductivity is low, and it requires the addition of high thermal conductivity fillers for enhancement. This paper uses polydopamine (PDA) to functionalize the surface of hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), yielding h-BN@PDA. Then, using the phenolic groups on the PDA layer as binding sites, copper (Cu) particles were deposited in situ through chemical reduction to prepare the h-BN@PDA-Cu composite filler. Subsequently, the filler was mixed into the PDMS matrix to prepare the PDMS composite material, and the properties were systematically studied. As a result, the composite containing 20 wt% h-BN@PDA demonstrated a thermal conductivity of 0.336 W/(m·K). The in situ formed Cu particles further built additional metal thermal conductive bridges between the fillers, and the thermal conductivity of h-BN@PDA-Cu/PDMS composite material reached 0.342 W/(m·K) while maintaining good flexibility and electrical insulation at the same filler content. This research provides effective approaches for the development of thermal conductive pads that possess high thermal conductivity, high flexibility, and reliability.

The transition from fossil feedstocks to bio-based alternatives with tunable properties is a crucial step towards establishing a sustainable materials industry. In this study, a series of high molecular weight bio-based poly (pentamethylene- co -ethylene glycol 2,5-furandicarboxylate) (PPEF) copolyesters were successfully synthesized by the conventional melt polycondensation method from 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid and 1,5-pentanediol (PeDO) derived from biomass resource. The intrinsic viscosities [ η ] of PPEF copolyesters ranged from 0.70 to 0.84 dL/g with the number-average molecular weights ( M n ) ranging from 30,200 to 36,300 g/mol. The thermal stability, mechanical properties, and optical clarity of PPEF copolyesters were significantly improved with the increase in 1,5-pentanediol content. Among them, the elongation at break of PPEF-36 was as high as 182%, while maintaining a tensile modulus of up to 2350 MPa and a tensile strength of 75 MPa. In addition, PPEF copolyester demonstrated excellent gas barrier properties, with carbon dioxide and oxygen barrier improvement factors (BIFp) of 5.7–8.1 times and 3.1–5.5 times, respectively, compared with polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Therefore, bio-based PPEF copolyesters with high toughness and excellent gas barrier properties will demonstrate significant application potential in food and medical packaging as well as specialized industrial sectors.

Reliable viscosity prediction of methacrylated hyaluronic acid (HAMA)/methacrylated gelatin (GelMA) hybrid hydrogels is essential for reproducible multi-batch biofabrication, yet batch effect can severely impair the cross-batch generalization of data-driven models. We established two experimentally measured HAMA/GelMA viscosity datasets collected at different time periods and covering different formulation ranges to characterize batch-effect-induced distributional shifts and support same-batch, cross-batch, and out-of-distribution (OOD) evaluation. Baseline machine learning (ML) models achieved high same-batch predictive performance ( R 2 > 0.90) but degraded markedly under cross-batch conditions ( R 2 = 0.265–0.772). To address these challenges, we propose a physics-informed correction strategy integrating data- and model-level physical priors. A physics-informed data preprocessing (PIDP) strategy filters samples that violate the rheological priors that viscosity increases monotonically with polymer concentration and decreases with temperature. PIDP increased cross-batch R 2 from 0.713 to 0.892 and reduced RMSE by up to 38.8%. A physics-informed neural network (PINN) further improved physical plausibility of the predictions. Integrating PIDP-PINN strategy (IPPS) achieved the best overall performance ( R 2 = 0.898) and reduced OOD errors by 37.7%. The strategy enables more robust and physically consistent hydrogel viscosity prediction for practical biofabrication, providing a transferable route toward reliable modeling and intelligent design of soft polymer materials under realistic experimental variability.

Crosslinking modification of polymer emulsions is an effective approach to suppress swelling and improve coating durability. In this study, an epoxy-functional silane oligomer crosslinker (PGOPTS) was synthesized via a silane hydrolysis–condensation route using γ-(2,3-epoxypropoxy)propyltrimethoxysilane (GOPTS) as the monomer. A styrene–acrylate latex (SAL) crosslinked by PGOPTS was used, and the process variables were optimized using response surface methodology. Under the optimal conditions of 80.8°C reaction temperature, 0.58 wt% PGOPTS content, and 6.84 mol% tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB), the modified latex film exhibited a 35.70% reduction in water absorption and a 13.4° increase in water contact angle, indicating improved water resistance. The modified latex was further applied to polymer cement waterproof coatings. Silanol self-condensation and reactions with cement hydration products promoted the formation of an organic–inorganic co-crosslinked network. The resulting coating exhibited a 30.61% reduction in water absorption, a 14.2° increase in contact angle, and enhanced durability. This work demonstrates a practical crosslinking strategy for durable polymer cement waterproof coatings.

The treatment of high-temperature oily wastewater remains a critical challenge in environmental and industrial applications. In this study, a high-temperature-resistant, superhydrophobic Polycarbonate/Polylactic acid (PC/PLA) fiber membrane was fabricated via electrospinning for efficient oil–water separation at elevated temperatures. By optimizing the PC content in PLA, the fabricated fibers exhibited a silk-bead morphology, significantly enhancing the mechanical strength, thermal stability, and superhydrophobic properties of the PLA membrane. Experimental results demonstrate that the membrane exhibits exceptional separation performance for both oil–water mixtures and emulsions at 90°C, with separation efficiencies exceeding 99.5% and flux rates of 6800 L/(m 2 h) for oil–water mixtures and 750 L/(m 2 h) for emulsions. Moreover, the membrane maintains excellent superhydrophobicity (contact angle of 157.10°) and good mechanical properties (tensile strength of 3.45 MPa) even at temperatures up to 120°C. This study presents a novel and highly effective membrane material for high-temperature oil–water separation, offering significant potential for applications in wastewater treatment and various industrial processes.

Ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) is widely used but suffers from high flammability, poor thermal stability, and low hardness. It is often blended with polyethylene (PE) and flame retardants to improve performance, yet this often causes poor synergy and uneven filler distribution. In this study, vinyl acetate (VA) is grafted onto PE via melt grafting to obtain PE-g-VA, which combines the mechanical strength of PE with the polar dispersion of VA. When compounded with aluminum hydroxide (AH), PE-g-VA/AH achieves a limiting oxygen index of 32.1% and a UL-94 V-0 rating without melt dripping. Compared with EVA/PE/AH, PE-g-VA/AH shows 37.2% higher tensile strength and reductions of 33.3% (PHRR), 26.7% (THR), 36.9% (PSPR), and 60.7% (TSP). These improvements arise from the VA side chains, which enhance AH dispersion and char layer integrity. This work provides a feasible matrix-modification strategy for high-performance flame-retardant composites.

To enhance the overall properties of polyaspartic polyurea (PAEU) coatings, a siloxane -modified PAEU (SiPU) series was synthesized using diethyl maleate-alkylated aminopropylsilane (DM-APTMDS) as a modifier. Systematic characterization and performance tests revealed that the incorporation of DM-APTMDS improved thermal stability, lowered the glass transition temperature, and promoted microphase separation. These structural modifications resulted in significantly enhanced adhesion (up to 8.49 ± 0.44 MPa), flexibility (elongation at break of 149%), and hydrophobicity (water contact angle of 99.4°). Specifically, at 21 wt% DM-APTMDS, the coating demonstrated superior durability against chemical attack, UV aging, freeze–thaw cycling, achieving the minimum corrosion current density (7.21 × 10 −8 A/cm 2 ) and highest protection efficiency (89.82%). This optimal formulation achieved a well-balanced combination of toughness, hydrophobicity, adhesion, and anticorrosion performance. This work provides important theoretical and practical guidance for designing high-performance, durable polyurea protective coatings.

The inherent trade-off between proton conductivity and dimensional stability severely limits the practical application of proton exchange membranes (PEMs). To address this issue, a unique sandwich-structured membrane is presented. In this design, its outer surface layers form a rigid skeleton composed of polyimide (PI) nanofibers, which provide physical confinement and effectively suppress excessive water absorption and swelling. The middle functional layer is made up of an ethylenediamine-modified graphene oxide (EGO)/sulfonated poly (ether ether ketone) (SPEEK) composite. Acid–base interactions between amino groups (-NH 2 ) on EGO and sulfonic acid groups ( SO 3 H) in SPEEK allow for the formation of continuous proton-transport pathways. In contrast, this membrane achieves a high proton conductivity of 222.4 mS·cm −1 at 60°C and 100% RH, which is 9.3% higher than that of SPEEK, while area ratio (20.5%) and water uptake (64.6%) are reduced by 56.9% and 39.7%, respectively. The membrane maintains 91.4% of its initial conductivity after a 350-h durability test at 60°C and 100% RH, which is still 26.9% greater than that of SPEEK. Overall, this sandwich-structured approach offers an efficient path toward high-performance PEMs by simultaneously improving proton conductivity and dimensional stability using synergistic physical confinement and interfacial chemical interactions.

Membrane fouling critically hinders nanofiltration (NF) for dye wastewater treatment. In this work, FeOOH was in situ loaded onto g-C 3 N 4 nanosheets, and the resulting FeOOH/g-C 3 N 4 composites were embedded into polyamide (PA) layers via interfacial polymerization to fabricate a self-cleaning NF membrane. The heterojunction configuration of the FeOOH/g-C 3 N 4 composites was confirmed by SEM, TEM, and FTIR, and was observed to promote their photocatalytic oxidation under visible light. The incorporation of FeOOH/g-C 3 N 4 enhanced the surface hydrophilicity and electronegativity of the membranes. Moreover, the intercalation of FeOOH on g-C 3 N 4 endowed the PA layer with additional water channels or interfacial voids, enhancing membrane permeability while ensuring retention performance, achieving a pure water permeance of 18 L·m −2 ·h −1 ·bar −1 and rejections of > 95% for dye molecules and > 90% for divalent salts. Benefiting from the photocatalytic capability of the FeOOH/g-C 3 N 4 heterojunction, the FeOOH/g-C 3 N 4 @PA membrane exhibited improved fouling resistance and high self-cleaning properties after three reuse cycles, maintaining a flux recovery ratio of over 97%, utilizing only a simple photocatalytic degradation operation. This work may provide a new strategy for fabricating antifouling and self-cleaning nanofiltration membranes for water treatment applications.

Here, we report that hollow MTB@Si-TiO 2 microparticles with a photo-responsive regeneration property were prepared for reproducible treatment of oily wastewater. Oil solutions of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and butyl methacrylate (BMA, containing oleic acid-modified ferric tetroxide (OA-Fe 3 O 4 )), a photoinitiator, a surfactant and silane-modified TiO 2 nanoparticles served as the middle phase. Aqueous solutions containing glycerol and surfactant were used as the inner and outer phases. Water-in-oil-in-water (W/O/W) emulsion templates were prepared by a microfluidic emulsification method and subsequently polymerized under UV light to form photocatalytic magnetic hollow porous microparticles. The hollow MTB@Si-TiO 2 microparticles exhibit high and stable adsorption performance (6.07 g/g) toward various oil–water mixtures under different conditions. In addition, cyclic oil–water separation experiments demonstrate the excellent photocatalytic regeneration capability of the microparticles and their high removal efficiency for oil and organic dyes (99.05%). Therefore, during oily wastewater treatment, the microparticles can be regenerated while directly degrading pollutants in the wastewater through photocatalysis, thereby avoiding secondary pollution caused by the use of additional solvents.
