Eddy current is a magnetic field effect generated in alternating magnetic field (AMF), which could trigger continuous local heating, reducing the energy consumption without impairing the life of the catalyst or reactor. Unfortunately, the investigation of eddy current effect on transition metal disulfides (TMDs) electrocatalysis is still in its infancy, and its actual electrocatalytic applications has been impeded by the multilayered structure of traditional layered TMDs. Typically, the step pyramid MoS 2 , with a layer-by-layer stacking structure just like the silicon steel plate in the transformer, showing an inevitable interlayer potential barrier will suppress the generation of eddy current and cause low efficiency of magnetic heating. In this work, the designed screw pyramid MoS 2 can facilitate the formation of micro eddy current and maximize utilization of magnetic heating to boost electrocatalytic activity, benefiting from its eliminated interlayer potential barrier. This work provides a new thinking for the design of field-assisted electrocatalytic reactions and development of the advanced catalyst technology.

Constructing semiconductor composites composed of multiphase heterojunctions has been considered as an effective strategy for designing promising photocatalyst systems. In this work, a novel ternary heterojunction photocatalyst was prepared by integrating MoS 2 semiconductor nanoflowers with silver doped covalent organic frameworks (COFs) and used for photocatalytic degradation of antibiotics. The regular pore structure and solid skeleton of COFs matrix optimize the distribution of constituent units, making Ag-MoS 2 nanoflower uniform and highly dispersed on the COFs material matrix. Moreover, the silver nanoparticles in the catalyst acted as an electron mediator, which inhibited the recombination of charge carriers, and effectively enhanced the photocatalytic activity of Ag-MoS 2 @COF. The as-prepared Ag-MoS 2 @COF ternary heterojunction photocatalyst exhibited high degradation efficiency for tetracycline (TC), reaching 90.1 % after 50 min of visible light irradiation, which was superior to most heterojunction photocatalysts. The Ag-MoS 2 @COF also demonstrated good reusability, almost maintaining the initial photocatalytic efficiency after 5 cycles. In addition, the plausible direct solid-state Z-scheme photocatalytic mechanism for TC degradation with Ag-MoS 2 @COF ternary catalyst under visible light irradiation was proposed according to LC-MS analysis, radicals trapping experiment and photoelectric chemical test. This work provides a new paradigm for the design and development of COF-based ternary heterojunction photocatalysts for environmental remediation.

The increase in the utilization of infrared heat detection technology in military applications necessitates research on composites with improved thermal transmission performance and microwave absorption capabilities. This study satisfactorily fabricated a series of MoS 2 /BN- xyz composites (which were characterized by the weight ratio of MoS 2 to BN, denoted by xy : z ) through chemical vapor deposition, which resulted in their improved thermal stability and thermal transmission performance. The results show that the remaining mass of MoS 2 /BN-101 was as high as 69.25wt% at 800°C under air atmosphere, and a temperature difference of 31.7°C was maintained between the surface temperature and the heating source at a heating temperature of 200°C. Furthermore, MoS 2 /BN-301 exhibited an impressive minimum reflection loss value of −32.21 dB at 4.0 mm and a wide effective attenuation bandwidth ranging from 9.32 to 18.00 GHz (8.68 GHz). Therefore, these simplified synthesized MoS 2 /BN- xyz composites demonstrate great potential as highly efficient contenders for the enhancement of microwave absorption performance and thermal conductance.

Nanoscale electronic devices that can work in harsh environments are in high demand for wearable, automotive, and aerospace electronics. Clean and defect-free interfaces are of vital importance for building nanoscale harsh-environment-resistant devices. However, current nanoscale devices are subject to failure in these environments, especially at defective electrode–channel interfaces. Here, harsh-environment-resistant MoS 2 transistors are developed by engineering electrode–channel interfaces with an all-transfer of van der Waals electrodes. The delivered defect-free, graphene-buffered electrodes keep the electrode–channel interfaces intact and robust. As a result, the as-fabricated MoS 2 devices have reduced Schottky barrier heights, leading to a very large on-state current and high carrier mobility. More importantly, the defect-free, hydrophobic graphene buffer layer prevents metal diffusion from the electrodes to MoS 2 and the intercalation of water molecules at the electrode–MoS 2 interfaces. This enables high resistances of MoS 2 devices with all-transfer electrodes to various harsh environments, including humid, oxidizing, and high-temperature environments, surpassing the devices with other kinds of electrodes. The work deepens the understanding of the roles of electrode–channel interfaces in nanoscale devices and provides a promising interface engineering strategy to build nanoscale harsh-environment-resistant devices.

This work presents the development of a highly sensitive, selective, and efficient aptamer-based fluorescent sensor for detecting cortisol in human urine. Carbon quantum dots-nucleic acid aptamer (CQDs-Apt) synthesized with excellent photoluminescent properties and stability, were selected as the fluorescent probe. In the presence of MoS 2 -NSs, CQDs-Apt adsorbed onto the surface of MoS 2 -NSs via electrostatic and π-π interactions, leading to strong and rapid fluorescence quenching due to static quenching mechanism between them. The CQDs-Apt/MoS 2 -NSs complex can be employed as a “turn-on” fluorescent sensor for cortisol. Upon the addition of cortisol to the CQDs-Apt/MoS 2 -NSs sensor, the aptamer specifically binds to cortisol, thereby weakening the interaction between CQDs-Apt and MoS 2 -NSs. This results in the desorption of CDs-Apt from the surface of MoS 2 -NSs and the recovery of the fluorescence signal. Under optimized conditions, the CQDs-Apt/MoS 2 -NSs sensor exhibits a linear response to cortisol concentration (1–500 ng/mL) with a detection limit of 0.3 ng/mL. Furthermore, the sensor demonstrated excellent stability, high accuracy (92.0% to 97.7%), and superior precision (RSD ≤ 3.5%). This sensor has achieved a sensitive, rapid and efficient response to cortisol, and been successfully utilized for the detection of cortisol in human urine, demonstrating its potential for clinical cortisol detection.

Perfluoropolyether (PFPE) is an excellent high-temperature lubricant; however, its poor affinity with additives such as MoS 2 , a common high-temperature lubricant additive, often leads to agglomeration and settling during storage, thereby reducing its tribological performance. To address this challenge, this study investigates the chemical grafting of MoS 2 using Trimethoxy (1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecyl) silane (TMFS), achieving stable MoS 2 dispersion in PFPE that remains effective for up to 180 days. The grafted MoS 2 exhibits remarkable thermal stability, maintaining its integrity without decomposition even at temperatures reaching 250 °C. Compared with pure PFPE, the modified lubricant demonstrates a remarkably 36.8 % reduction in coefficient of friction and an 81.6 % decrease in wear rate at 200 °C. This research provides crucial theoretical insights and practical guidance for the future design of high-performance high-temperature lubrication systems.

Fiber-optic surface plasmon resonance (FO-SPR) sensors, known for the advantages in miniaturization, label-free, and high flexibility, are promising for continuous glucose monitoring. However, due to limited sensing area, FO-SPR sensors exhibit relatively lower sensitivity compared to prism-based SPR sensors. To address this issue, a novel FO-SPR sensor modified with a molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 )-graphene heterostructure was proposed in this paper. The sensitivity was evaluated both theoretically and experimentally, which showed that the highest sensitivity was achieved with two layers of MoS 2 and two layers of graphene. Moreover, pyrene-1-boronic acid (PBA) was bound to the heterostructure to improve specificity for glucose molecules. It was found that the sensitivity was also further improved by using PBA, and total enhancement of heterostructure and PBA reached 1229.29 % compared to the sensor modified with only a gold film. The newly proposed FO-SPR sensor achieves a sensitivity of up to 12593.06 nm/RIU for glucose concentrations in the range of 0–500 mg/dL, indicating its potential for widespread application in glucose concentration measurement.

High levels of nitrates and nitrites not only threaten aquatic ecosystems and drinking water safety but also impair the biodegradation efficiency of industrial wastewater. In this study, micro-nano-MoS 2 -1013 (0.04 g/L) enhanced denitrification by 56.9% and 29.6% in steel pickling and meat processing wastewaters, respectively, and improved chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal by 136.7% in refinery cooling wastewater under continuous-flow conditions using a 3.5 L upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor. The catalytic effect of micro-nano-MoS 2 on denitrification was achieved by stimulating an increase in the abundance of denitrification genes and the transcript levels of narL (93.82 times), narG (16.34 times), and nirK (12.27 times) within the bacterial cells, which led to an increase in the expression levels of denitrifying enzymes. These findings have significant implications for the design and optimization of biodegradation processes and bio-denitrification systems, particularly for the treatment of high-concentration nitrate wastewater.

MoS2-based catalysts can effectively achieve the hydrodeoxygenation of lipids or fatty acids into biojet fuel, alleviating the energy crisis and environmental problems. Nevertheless, the active sites of MoS2 are predominantly concentrated at the edges or rims, while the more extensive inert plane is deficient in effective catalytic sites. In this study, based on a phase transformation strategy, sulfur atoms in the inert plane are activated through annealing 1T MoS2, generating 2H MoS2 with abundant in-plane sulfur vacancies. Specifically, MoS2(U)-400 achieves 100% conversion of palmitic acid and over 99% hexadecane yield at 2 MPa H2 and 260 °C. This phase transformation-induced active site construction strategy provides a simple and effective catalyst for the hydrodeoxygenation of lipids and fatty acids.

Two-dimensional lateral heterostructures based on transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) are promising for optoelectronics due to their layer thickness-dependent properties. Bilayer structures, in particular, offer advantages like enhanced electron mobility and improved stability. However, precisely controlling layer growth in these heterostructures remains a challenge. We report a simple two-step chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method for growing bilayer WS2–WSe2 and WS2–MoS2 lateral heterostructures. By strategically positioning a bilayer WS2 template to create temperature gradients, we manipulate the supersaturation of the second material, enabling precise control over the epitaxial width ratio on layer growth. Raman spectroscopy, photoluminescence (PL), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) confirm coherent lattice continuity and chemically abrupt interfaces. The resulting WS2–WSe2 heterostructure exhibits high-performance self-powered photodetection (responsivity of 30.31 mA W−1, detectivity of 2.42 × 108 Jones and fast response time <20 ms under 638 nm laser illumination, respectively). This performance is attributed to the type-II band alignment-induced built-in electric field and the high-quality interface. This work provides novel perspectives on the growth mechanism of bilayer lateral heterostructures and highlights their potential for advanced optoelectronic applications.

Uranium, a radioactive element, exists in aqueous environments primarily as uranyl ions (UO22+), posing significant risks to human health and the environment. Detecting UO22+ in such environments remains challenging. Here, an upconversion fluorescent sensor (UCDM) for the detection of UO22+ in an aqueous environment was constructed based on the fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) principle. This sensor utilizes upconversion nanoparticles loaded with DNAzyme (UCDA) as energy donors and molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) as energy acceptors. MoS2 exhibits a high affinity for single-stranded DNA (ssDNA), enabling the sensor to function effectively. In the presence of UO22+, DNAzyme catalyzes substrate cleavage at the rA site, releasing ssDNA that binds to MoS2. This interaction leads to a decrease in UCDA upconversion luminescence. The unique upconversion luminescence property of an upconversion nanoparticle minimizes background autofluorescence, enhancing sensitivity. The sensor achieves a low detection limit of 5.81 nM and demonstrates robust recoveries (98.7%–102.7%) in complex aqueous matrices such as Xiangjiang water, uranium mine wastewater, human serum, and urine samples, underscoring its practical applicability.

Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) are promising candidates for flexible optoelectronic devices because of their special structures and excellent properties, but the low optical absorption of the ultrathin layers greatly limits the generation of photocarriers and restricts the performance. Here, we integrate all-inorganic perovskite CsPbBr3 nanosheets with MoS2 atomic layers and take the advantage of the large absorption coefficient and high quantum efficiency of the perovskites, to achieve excellent performance of the TMD-based photodetectors. Significantly, the interfacial charge transfer from the CsPbBr3 to the MoS2 layer has been evidenced by the observed photoluminescence quenching and shortened decay time of the hybrid MoS2/CsPbBr3. Resultantly, such a hybrid MoS2/CsPbBr3 photodetector exhibits a high photoresponsivity of 4.4 A/W, an external quantum efficiency of 302%, and a detectivity of 2.5 × 1010 Jones because of the high efficient photoexcited carrier separation at the interface of MoS2 and CsPbBr3. The photoresponsivity of this hybrid device presents an improvement of 3 orders of magnitude compared with that of a MoS2 device without CsPbBr3. The response time of the device is also shortened from 65.2 to 0.72 ms after coupling with MoS2 layers. The combination of the all-inorganic perovskite layer with high photon absorption and the carrier transport TMD layer may pave the way for novel high-performance optoelectronic devices.
